Layout grid

Hi - Go Live user in peace!
As a relative newbie the layout grid feature in GL is really
useful but seems to be dismissed by the DW community. Is there
anything similar in DW or do I have to get my head around CSS
positioning or do everythnig in nested tables.
the only other thread I found about this suggests that the GL
layout grid feature just adds lots of superfluous code.
Can anyone shed any light on the matter - since I suspect GL
is going to fade away I'm looking to start using DW and this is a
major difference (just about everything else seems pretty similar -
although the GL UI is something I've grown accustomed to)
Thanks

That's what you have to do. The end result is the same, but
you will wind
up understanding much more about HTML page construction. Use
tables first,
until you understand them well, and then move on to CSS.
Don't try to do
both at the same time or you'll hurt yourself!

It does not. But it uses tables in a way that is similar to
how Fireworks
uses them when you export a sliced image to HTML. The tables
are bulky, and
fragile. If you use the Grid in GL, that's what you get. It's
definitely
not how an experienced user would build the same page.

Even with GL, the more you know about HTML and CSS, the
easier your learning
curve will be.

  • How to specify "Layout Grid" or "Margin/Column" for a new doc in the Japanese version

I am using the Japanese version of InDesign CS2.
When you open a new document in the Japanese version,

  • Problems with moving pictures on a layout grid

    Hello,
currently I am switching from windows golive5 to mac os x golive 9.
In my "older" version I could move pictures on a layout grid by using the arrow keys (klick on right arrow one time moved the picture one step right...)
In my new Version this function is just working on pictures without a border.
If there is a border (HTML border=...) around the picture the picture is scaling bigger an bigger by using any arrow key.
So my only chance to move these pictures on the grid is by mouse or remove the border, move them by the arrow keys, and recreate the border...
Even the manual input of the grid position (using Y=50 X=50) by clicking on these arrows or input the numbers directly in the toolbar is scaling the picture.
Is this a bug? Can I do anything to work like in GoLive 9, just moving every Object by arrow keys?
    Thank you in advance!
    Nic

Wow, looks like a bug to me! The image enlarges by the combined values of the border whenever it is shifted - with the nudge arrows or not - and that can only be called a bug. I'd just uncheck the border button in the Inspector, move the image and then turn on the border again.
I can't find the bug report page on Adobe.com for the life of me right now. Does anyone know where it has gone?

  • Layout Grid CSS property not suported in IE11

I wanted to define a character grid such that one character is displayed in one cell of the grid.
previously the CSS property -ms-layout-grid-mode worked well in IE7,8,9.
but the -ms-layout-grid-mode property(https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ie/ms530774(v=vs.85).aspx) doesnt work in IE11.
Has it been obolete/not supported in IE11?(i couldnt find any documentation regarding the same)
What CSS property can be used to obtain Character Grids in IE11?

  • JQuery mobile layout grid not working after 4.2 upgrade

    Hi all,
I'm running a mobile application on a hosted Apex environment which uses lots of jQuery mobile. The environment has been updated to 4.2 recently, and since that happened pages that I had setup to use the content grid, to show content in 3 columns no longer works, there only appears to be 1 column now. Code as below: -
    <div class="ui-grid-b">
         <div class="ui-block-a">Block A</div>
         <div class="ui-block-b">Block B</div>
         <div class="ui-block-c">Block C</div>
</div><!-- /grid-b -->Item 1 has the following as the 'before label and item':
<div data-role="fieldcontain"><div class="ui-grid-b"><div class="ui-block-a">Item 2 has the following as the 'before label and item':
<div data-role="fieldcontain"><div class="ui-grid-b"><div class="ui-block-b">Item 3 has the following as the 'before label and item':
    <div data-role="fieldcontain"><div class="ui-grid-b"><div class="ui-block-c">with a closing </div> after each. This was working OK in 4.1
Does anyone have any ideas what has changed that would affect this?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I haven't completely got to the bottom of why this was happening, but I have resolved this after realising the ui-grid-b and ui-block-x elements weren't being rendered, seemed to be related to the 'Before Label and Item' label template item, if anyone else hits this.

  • JTable size problems due to layout/grid...how can I fix?

This is my code. When the button "Modify Entries" is pressed, it shows a JTable that imports a file called, "entries.data". The items in this file can be read and saved using this program. The problem is that the table is so small when it first opens. How can I set all my buttons to the very bottom of the form and make the table take up more space at the top? It looks to me as if this layout is treating it with the same dimensions as the buttons'.

    Thank you for any help.

It looks to me as if this layout is treating it with the same dimensions as the buttons'.Thats the way a GridLayout works.
Read the Swing tutorial on [url http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/layout/visual.html]How to Use Layout Managers. You can mix an match individual Layout Managers to get the effect desired.
I would suggest you need to change your design. Your code for continually removing and adding components is not the best design. You should probably have a panel with all your buttons. Then you would have different panels for each of your sub functions. The display of these panels would be controlled by a Card Layout. The tutorial has working examples of this.
You can't use a Properties file to save data from the table (at least not the way you are attempting to use it). I gave you a solution in your last posting.

  • Layout grids Aperture Photo Books

I am attempting to make sure all of my photo boxes and text boxes are consistent throughout a book I am designing.
I can not seem to find any feature that will allow me to precisely create and place images, text on pages.
There is a very basic center tool and outside margin tool -are there more tools somewhere I am missing or do they not exist?
If they don't Apple please add them. How can you have a professional tool without this basic function.
Also can you link text boxes to flow text?
Any advice as to how others have dealt with this.
    Thank you

    Hello,
on my experience Aperture´s books could be absolutly customized, so that´s more freedom in layouts.
You can adjust / change text boxes, fonts, sizes, color, and so...
You can create your personal book´s theme, or just only one or more pages within choosed theme, then you can print your book via on-line service, or print as PDF, PDF-X, TIFF (every composed page) or JPEG (same as tiff) to your computer...
but if you choose a theme and/or size, style (hardcover or softcover) but you want to change it for a different order, for example for parents, with another size or hardwork style, you must start creating another book ;<.

  • Adding a tiled background/ w/layout grid

Is this possible? I want to use a simple .gif image to cover the wide expanse so not matter how wide the window is dragged the same colour (or tile ) is there.
I tried using background colour/ background image which is fine if you have a big fat grid but it will only continue to the expanse of the grid.....Thanks

You can set the bg color of the entire page in the Page Properties. Click the little page icon in the upper right of the pages window.
I may not understand your question though...

  • Can I use grid layout in JSF visual page designer ?

    Hello dears...
    I am using Jdeveloper 11 g and 10 g .
When I tried to use JSF visual editor (from the component palette), and when I drag any control to the page I found that the control go to the top left of the page
and I even can not move the control to another place in the page by the mouse.
the JSF visual designer seems to use flow layout for the page . (the same as using flow layout in the swing applications).
The question is Can I change the page layout to be grid layout instead of flow layout ?????? (to be able to move any control to anywhere in the page.)
Note that in netbeans 6.1 , when u design JSF page , you have 2 options for the page layout, grid layout and flow layout and u can choose as u like.
Is this feature found in jdeveloper 11 ?????
if not , Can anybody tell me any workaround to design JSF pages without using flow layout ????
    Thanks in advance
    Samy

We don't provide absolute positioning for JSF application - this is a bad practice since it fills your JSF page with CSS code and create applications that are not portable between different screen/monitor resolutions - so we use flow layout instead and provide a much richer set of layout components.
    See info here:

  • Portrait Grid Layout Resolution

I just got a 22" external monitor that is able to pivot in portrait mode. Does anyone know if the 6 grid resolution options can be changed for portrait mode? It seems they are wider than longer, ie. 160x100,
    213x133, 140x87.
Sometimes I'm reading lyrics to songs in Mainstage and the lyrics are long and they don't all fit on the screen in landscape mode, but portrait mode would be perfect.
A last resort in landscape mode is to be able to change lyrics text in the middle of the song.
The only thing I came up with is dividing up the song in parts with each part having a different section of lyrics. By the way, I'm using the applescript to play the itunes tracks of the song in my Mainstage set.
    Thanks in advance.

The Graphics are rotated the right way in portrait,it's just that when I click the expand button in the Mainstage window, the window expands portrait-wise, but the layout grid only stays in the landscape mode.
My question remains....Is there a way to change the orientation of the layout grid from landscape to portrait?

  • Dreamweaver cs6 and Fluid Grid Layouts!

New to Dreamweaver cs6 and Fluid Grid Layouts!
Could you please tell me if you can create several layout grid designs (in the same website) depending on the page layout you need for each
    page?
The reason I am asking is my web site has different information on each page (which is laid out differently)
Maybe create layout.css and layout2.css and so on. AND TIE EACH PAGE IN WITH A PHP INCLUDE NAVIGATION PLACED ON EACH PAGE.
    Is this possible.
    Thanks, Mrs. White

Different layouts for different pages?  It's certainly possible, but I don't recommend it.  Ideally you want to work with ONE FluidGrid Layout throughout your site with some additional CSS rules for optional regions (classes & styles) that may not be required on all pages. Some examples of optional regions would be contact forms, tables, definition lists, re-usable floats, etc...
If your Responsive Design is well planned, you shouldn't need more than one main structure for mobile, one for tablet and one for desktops.  If you go down the path of having different structures for 3 devices AND each site page, you will soon be wrestling with a 10,000 lb. gorilla: Herculean to build and not much fun to maintain.
Server-side includes for site wide headers, footers & navigation are a very good idea whether your site is Responsive or not.  I use them all the time.

  • Repositioning DIVs in a DW6 fluid grid layout

I've followed James Williamson's video tutorial on fluid grid layouts http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-dreamweaver-cs6/using-fluid-grid-layouts/ and have created something similar.
Williamson gives his DIVs fairly standard ID names. He starts with "header", ends with "footer" and places three DIVs in between:  "article", "interview" and "artwork" (around 6:20 in the video).
The desktop layout is a standard three column layout with a header and footer while in the mobile layout all the divs stack up one on top of the other.
In Williamson's tablet layout, he adjusts the width of the DIVs so two site below the header ("article" and "interview") and he makes the third ("artwork") span the full width (he shows the three layouts in a browser from 15.00  to 15.20 in the video).
What I would like to do in the tablet layout is have the third column ("artwork") sits below "article" while the middle div, "interview" (which in my case is taller, due to having more content) sits to the right of them both.
Is this possible using DW6's fluid layout grid, or would I have to create the layout manually from scratch?

No. The way that Dreamweaver's Fluid Grid Layouts work is by floating all divs to the left. New rows are created by setting the clear property to left. As a result, you cannot have a div on the right that spans the height of multiple divs on the left.
The divs must be displayed in rows in the same order as they appear in the underlying HTML. To get two divs on the left alongside a taller one on the right, you would need to wrap the left-hand divs in an outer div. The outer div can be snapped to the grid, but not the inner ones.
As Nancy says, failing miserably with the Fluid Grid Layout feature is much easier than succeeding. It reminds me of Dreamweaver's earlier love affair with "layers" (absolutely positioned divs) -- well intentioned, but fatally flawed.

Field                             Field... ie 2 fields with a lot of space between them.
Finally, are there any examples on the web of UIs with many discrete fields on them (as opposed to logon/helloWorld and matrix data control), where I can look at how the design has been done.

I don't know if our solution is a best practice. We are not using the label property of input components because the alignment does not satisfy then. Instead we are using a <h:panelGrid> and nest <ui:label> and <ui:textField> (Studio Creator components) components in it. Multiple components in one cell are surrounded with a nested layout or grid panel. The number of columns is set by the attribute "columns" and width is controlled by the attribute "columnClasses". • Hiding the table grid in Appleworks 6 so they don't print

I created a handy layout grid for my pix and text, now can't get rid of the ugly table borders for printing it out. It surely must be possible...or should I be using something else to create a layout for a page?
I searched on this topic and found some extremely complicated workarounds, also the suggestion of turning off cells in "Options". On my Appleworks, there is no "Options"!
I'm sure this must be possible but its not in Help or obvious in any of the menus.

I created a handy layout grid for my pix and text, now can't get rid of the ugly table borders for printing it out. It surely must be possible ....
I'm sure it probably is, but first you have to make clear how you created your "handy layout grid".
I'm just guessing, from your use of 'cells' and 'Options', that you might have done this in a Spreadsheet. Using that as a page layout tool is, if you'll pardon me, a very Windoze- and Excel-centric way of doing things* but if that's where you are, that's where you are.
Assuming I know what you might actually mean when you say "ugly table borders", you do that at the printing stage itself. Look in the Print dialogue, specifically in the settings scrollwheel menu, and open it up at Appleworks. If you're trying to print a SS file you will see the way to turn off row/col headings and so forth and so on.
*I find it much simpler to simply use Frames to construct & place things as I want.
