LCM Change and Release Management - How to maintain job integrity

Hi
We are using BO in a three scale landscape. DEV, QA and PRD are all are in a same network. I installed Business Objects Life Cycle Manager 3.1 SP3 on my dev system.
I created a job for DEV -> QA. (Multiple iterations - for changes in DEV while testing)
Once the final version is tested in QA, those objects suppose to be moved from QA -> PRD not directly from DEV -> PRD. Because when i make a copy of the existing job, that's not allow me to change the source system.
Now, my question is, I want to maintain integrity of job promotion, means I want to move the same objects which tested in QA to PRD,
1. DEV -> QA -> PRD. Is it possible in LCM or any other tool?
2. Is it possible to change the source system of LCM jobs?
3. To maintain the interity, is it required to create two jobs
DEV -> QA - Job1
QA -> PRD - Job2 (With same objects as in Job1)
4. What is the right approch for BO Change and Release Management?
Thanks
Deep

Same query as in How to maintain LCM job integrity while promoting?

  • Need to shift to HANA , from Change and release management

    Hi All,
Please advice me, I am working as Change and release coordinator , which is technology independent,  i have hands on SQL and Mainframe,  now i would like to shift my career to SAP HANA, please advice if this is a suitable option

    Hi Chandru,
You have a very good job as a change and release coordinator.  Why don't you try SAP Release Management job in project because it is a niche and good.  If you learn SAP Solution Manager ChARM then it will take you to SAP Release Management job.
If you still looking for SAP HANA, then it can also suits but you can check SAP HANA Administrator.  However, check out the option as SAP Release Management job.
    Best of luck.

  • RE: List Archive and Release Management

    Hi back.
    >> what procedures do people use to manage the development, testing
    and release of software?
It's useful to have a separate repository for Development, QA, Production,
etc. It's true that you have to 'import' between them, each time you
propagate changes. It might seem like a pain to constantly export/import,
but actually it's better that way.
Firstly, you should only export to QA when you're absolutely sure it's ready
for quality assurance, and this doesn't happen every day (or shouldn't)
Second, the advantage of this is that you get a 'clean' import and compile
each time, with no other baggage. This is especially critical when you
migrate from QA to a production environment.
There's no need to have a testing_verXX repository, just make a different
workspace for each version of test.
Just check out all the components, import, and integrate. The 'old'
workspace will have a snapshot of the old release.
    * Don't Update that old workspace or you'll lose it!
    * Put an administrator password on the repos, to protect against
    inadvertent usage.
    * It's expensive to have many repositories running on your environment
manager, so I recommend only one repos for each of development, QA and
    Deployment.
    * You might want to consider only bringing up the production repos as
required, they hog RAM like crazy.
It's critical to have a complete image of each version of every application
you have in production. That way, you can recreate any problem.
It's even useful to migrate your development repos every now and then. As
you know, these repos beasties can grow quite large, and it's god to start
from scratch on a regular basis.
For example, every month or so, our core architecure team releases a new
version of the core components. We all integrate, and we create a new repos
from the core architecture stuff, and import all our stuff over the top of
it. That way, we keep a loose coupling between sub-systems, and their stuff
never depends on ours. Also, with a split developmen repos, you can locate
the different teams on different intranets, or even on different sides of
the world, all with relatively little fuss.
Forté SCM hooks and SCCSWe use a unix version control called CMVC.
Whenever we integrate, it checks out the pex files, exports them, and checks
    them back in.

bit weird when each message is appended with a little signature

    talking
about how you keep them separate, how you do hot-fixes, how you
identify installed versions at customer sites, etc.
I've thought that we could do it with separate repositories for
    "current
development", "testing_verXX", "release_verXY", etc., where we
    export
from "development" and then import into "testing", and similarily
    for

Also, we are looking at using the Forté SCM hooks and SCCS on our

    we
somehow need to identify which version of a particular component is
installed at the customer site. I had thought of defining a

Then the constant could be used to display these values in a

Under Forte 2 we used to export all projects, then import them into a make
repository, then produce an app. Due to the time involved importing &
exporting, and errors resulting from importing projects out of order, we
switched to making copies of the dev repository and producing apps from
that. For us, it used to take 2+ hours to export/import, as opposed to 5
minutes for copying repository files. Unfortunately, we have found that
unless we force-compile prior to deploying, we will get errors when
    attempting to compile partitions.
    Our current procedure:
    Shut down dev repos
    Copy to make env
make a workspace that includes all projects
    force-compile
    update
    integrate
make a new workspace for each app to make
    make each app
    export code
    remove unused workspaces
    clean repos

    Hi,
We, like what you've explained, keep different releases of our application
in different workspaces. However, when the release is getting larger, this
    "check-out-every-components-then-overwrite-by-import" procedure get tougher.
Sometimes, it even creates garbage in the repository which corrupts my
    workspace.
So, I have an alternative proposal on this procedure ( though I haven't
really test on this idea ) which is to create a new repository for each new
    release.
    What do you think?

  • Oracle Change and Configuration Management packs

    Hi,
We are looking at implementing the Oracle Change and Configuration Management packs.
I would be very interested to hear from anybosy who is currently using these packs.
I have done some preliminary tests, and am getting what seems like a very simple error, but i am at a loss as to how to fix it.
Will respond to replies with exact error and scenario.
    thanks in advance.

    Hi Nayab,
We are looking to implement the change and configuration management packs, to automate our change control.
As part of my initial testing i have the following scenario...
I have three database (namely TEST_DB, QA_DB and PROD_DB) all configured and manageable in EM.
I have create a sample test schema in TEST_DB with tables, views, sequences, procedures and triggers.
Using EM, i am able to transfer the sample schema (with all objects) from the TEST_DB to the PROD_DB.
If i manually create the sample schema in the QA_DB, i am able to transfer the sample schema from the QA_DB to the PROD_DBm using EM.
When i try to transfer the sample schema from the TEST_DB to the QA_DB i get an error in the synchronization phase.
The capturing of the baseline, and the dictionary comparison phase complete successfully, but when i do the synchronization phase, i get
    the follwing error...
    SQL> ERROR:
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
SVR4 Error: 2: No such file or directory
    Process ID: 0
Session ID: 0 Serial number: 0
This seems strange because, it must have been able to see the destination database for it to complete the dictionary comparison phase, so
i cannot understand now why it cannot connect to the destination database to complete the synchronization phase.
any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks

  • TFS and Release Managment Setup in Azure VM- Release managment Extension not avaliable

    Hi
We are planning to setup TFS and Release Management on a VM in Azure. In the portal there is an option to create a VM with TFS which is great but I do not see any option to install Release Managment as an extension.
    based on this link
Install Release Management as Extension (at the end of the article). I do not see the this option under extension when i am setting up a VM.
If there is another way of installing this from the portal please let me know
I know I can install all this as a stand alone installer but since azure provides these options thought i would use them.
    Thanks

    Hi kumarforum,
Since this thread is more related to Azure management portal, I will move it to the right forum for a better response. Thanks for your understanding.

  • Version control, build, deploy and release management of eBS applications?

    Hi All
I am setting up a standard configuration management, build & deployment automation and change & release management process for all types of applications including Oracle eBS, Informatica, Siebel, Cognos, Java etc. As you know, SCM for Java and .Net types of applications are very matured, but not for other types of applications such as Oracle eBS.
Can you give me some hint or point me to some documents on how to manage Oracle eBS applications from SCM's perspective? For example,
    1. How to version control eBS artifacts? e.g. what kind of eBS artifacts need to be version controlled?
    2. How to build eBS artifacts and then deploy to a new environment? How to move an eBS application from one environment (DEV) to test environment?
    3. How to manage changes?
We have a standard SCM tool called RTC from IBM, which has version control, build and change control functions.
    Thanks

  • CRM ORDER CHANGE AND STATUS MANAGEMENT - workflow

    Hi,
We have created a Changed method for bus2000120 which is configured to fire when the Order is saved via Status Management.  We have added an entry to BSVW for the object, bus2000120.changed with no restrictions.  We have also created a function module that checks to see if the user status is E0005 or E0007 or it deletes the object from the Event table.  I see that this works correctly, however, a given SAVE of a transaction is firing 2 bus2000120.changed for the exact same user and system status.  (I know that it is firing 2 bus2000120.changed because I ran swels and swel. The event was listed twice. Please remember that the Event table when read directly after the save only lists bus2000120.changed one time.)
There is only 1 entry in the event linkage(swetypv) for bus2000120.changed and it has a condition of the same user status, e0005 or e0007.  No real problem here, however, since there were 2 firings it runs the workflow twice.
When you look at the extras-change documents you can see that the Header is changed twice, once for a system status and once for the user status.  I am assuming that since there are 2 changes, this is what is doing both firings.
The funny thing is that if I fall into our custom code in debug where we are reading the status and event tables I only see bus2000120.changed.
Any ideas on how I might solve this problem?  Do you believe I am correct in assuming that the 2 status changes to the header of the transaction is how both events are being fired?  If not, any guidance you might give would be greatly appreciated.

  • Release Management - How to bring testing calls in the Release Pipeline

    Dear Team
I had set up a new application release path using RM Client. The release pipeline contains deploying a new web site with IIS.
Using the release template - able to trigger build and deployment happens.
Question #1. In the Build log, the Quality tag is NOT assigned? What is the procedure to assign a quality tag?
In the deployment in QA Environment - launch also testing done - call automated tests from VSTS Coded UI like smoke suite, functional suite for execution and share results
Question #2: Is there any existing services call available or new component need to be developed.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi VikramGopu,
I'd like to know the TFS version you're using. For your questions, please check the replies as below:
    1. Build quality will not be assigned to a build result unless you choose the values manually. To get the TFS build result assigned a build quality, you can check the links below for more information:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/030a9cc7-4c91-4132-a9fa-0fbcf119218d/tfs2010-team-build-automatically-update-build-quality?forum=tfsbuild
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/19730128/tfs2010-automatically-set-build-quality
    2. You can run the coded UI test by using Visual Studio locally or Microsoft Test Manager. If you want to run coded UI test in TFS build, you have to run the build service interactively. To run test duing the build/deployment process, you
can use command tools in Release Management to call mstest to run the tests. Whether you need to create a new component depends on your requirements. You can also refer to this

  • How to maintain the integrity of datbase??

    Hi,
I wanted to know that waht are the things which must always be considerd when you maintain the integrity of database and also how to maintain the security that balance the user requirement? I am asking in general point of view.
    hope for your precious advise.

Data integrity is normally ensured by ensuring that the schema design is properly normalized (i.e. there is 1 and only 1 place where a particular piece of information belongs) and by creating referential integrity constraints. It is also a good idea to create packages that operate on the tables and expose only these packaged procedures to app developers. When there are bugs, it is a lot easier to fix a single stored procedure than to modify every application out there. Stored procedure interfaces also simplify life for developers because they don't have to be concerned about remembering to insert all the appropriate relationships, just passing in the right parameters to the function.
Your question on security, unfortunately, is incredibly broad. Generally, practice the principle of least privilege-- give users the absolute minimum of privileges they could need to do their job. Precisely what sort of security policies you need really depends on the application and the organization. Large US companies have things like Sarbanes-Oxley to worry about which drives a lot of requirements, systems with sensitive data (i.e. payroll) probably need more security than something like the product database.

  • When I want to select multiple files in a row, the click shift method and the click drag method is not working. Is there a setting I need to change and if so how?

My click then shift+click will not select the multiple files, Is there a setting to change somewhere?

Click and shift works for me, so this is not a Mavericks bug.
Try deleting any finder.plist files and restarting.
To do that, click the desktop so Finder is active, then click on Go in the menu bar. In the dropdown select Library. In that folder look for Preferences. In the Preferences folder there will be at least two files whose names start com.apple.finder.....
    Trash them all and restart.

    Hi ,
actually the user can enter the value from portal ie thru web dynpro form
    example :
    'testbyvenkatreddy'
when user clicks on save .
it will call bapi  and update the database the same value will be updated in portal ..
but it is taking only 10 char when we put an external breakpoint  in BAPI  we observed the input to the bapi is going only 10 char  even we have more than 10 char .
From SAP system side they have changed  only char length 10 to 20 thts it ...
they didn't changed  the filed name or structure only they changed in dataelement ..
is we need reimport the bapi agian or  reboot the server ?
wht we need to do exactly  we are on support project having lots of bapis in single application ...
    regards ,

    See above

hi, since your username is also the email address that is needed to set up a firefox account, it is not possible to change that. you'd need to create a new account with the correct mail instead...
