LDAP native solaris 10 server - client

Hi,
Can someone give me some link or instructions on how to configure a solaris 10 to be a Native Ldap server and i need also to have a client that will run on solaris 10 also.
I did follow PeterVG post, but have tried so many times that i need to do a clean install and get it from scratch.
anyway, what i did:
on the server:
a. set domain, add hots, install pkgs, and run directoryserver setup (it gives me some warning saying that i have an already installed instance, but i keep on trying).
b. run idsconfig => this part goes without problem.
when i go to try to add a client with hostA.ldif as:
dn: cn=hou-sol-dev,ou=hosts,dc=qatestit,dc=com
changetype: add
cn: qates001
iphostnumber: 10.38.133.124
objectclass: top
objectclass: device
objectclass: ipHost
goes and gives me ldap_add: No such object.
and of course, when i go to the client and try to run
ldapclient -v init ... with the server information gives me a fail, with some old dc=domain (which i have changed later).
if anybody can help, i really appreciate.
thank you,
./antonio/.

I finally got it working. I think my problem was that I was coping and pasting the /etc/pam.conf from Gary's guide into the pam.conf file.
There was unseen carriage returns mucking things up. So following a combination of the two docs worked. Starting with:
http://web.singnet.com.sg/~garyttt/Configuring%20Solaris%20Native%20LDAP%20Client%20for%20Fedora%20Directory%20Server.htm
Then following the steps at "Authentication Option #1: LDAP PAM configuration " from this doc:
http://docs.lucidinteractive.ca/index.php/Solaris_LDAP_client_with_OpenLDAP_server
for the pam.conf, got things working.
Note: ensure that your user has the shadowAccount value set in the objectClass

  • Sudo with LDAP NetGroups Solaris 10

    Hi All,
Can some  one describe me the steps to configure sudoers to work with LDAP NetGroups Solaris 10 ?
I am using  "sudo  1.7.2p6 " right now.
I am able to authenticate using  the Netgroups , but not able to using sudo.
    Thanks,
    DD

I have recently tested sudo 1.6.8p8 to be working with flat files /etc/sudoers or LDAP sudo maps, together with netgroup and automount, on a Solaris Native LDAP Client against DS5.2 server.
I assume you use Solaris8/9 Native LDAP Client, and assume netgroup LDAP maps have been working without sudo.
I read your other post about sudo and ldap, I think you did not configure and build "sudo" with "--with-pam", right?
Can you provide the following details?
    1) First 10 lines of "sudo -V", i.e. "sudo -V | head".
    2) How do you configure "sudo" on the LDAP Client? i.e. ./configure options.
    3) Did you use an old gcc version eg: Solaris9 built-in gcc 3.1, to compile sudo?
    4) Content of /var/ldap/ldap_client_file.
    5) Content of /etc/ldap.conf, you should have this file.
    6) Sample ldif showing some sudoRole entries in LDAP
    7) Can you perform these commands?
    ldaplist -l sudoers
    ldaplist -l sudoers root
    ldaplist -l sudoers some_sudoRole
    8) Content of /etc/pam.conf
    9) Any other relevant details, like err in /var/adm/messages.

  • Problems setting up ldap on solaris 10.

when trying to set up LDAP on Solaris 10 I am asked for an LDAP profile and the address of the ldap server. I know the address of the LDAP server but what is the profile, and how do I set it up with active directory?

    Hi,
The profile defines how the client will interact with the server. On a Solaris server, you set this file up with the /usr/lib/ldap/idsconfig command. On the client, you use ldapclient init -a profileName=xyz -a domainName=your.domain <server.ip.adderss.here:portno> portno not necessary if you are using port 389 on server. I'm not sure how you duplicate the functionality of that file from a Windows server. Maybe if you look at man page on idsconfig, it may help identify what needs to be done on Windows server to create a profile the Solaris client can use. I went to MS TechNet and searched for "ldap server for solaris client" A lot of hits. Hope this helps.

  • How to integrate a Solaris x86 server on Sun Management Center ?

    Hello people,

If I'm not wrong, SunMC doesn't run for Solaris x86, server and client only as console with Java.
In speat of it, I try to install Sun Management Center 3.0 Agent for Solaris x86.
It seems to be ok, install packages, but when execute es-setup script, intents to create the following directory:
    /opt/SUNWsymon/base/bin/sparc-sun-solaris2.8
I supose that in this directory, SunMC will install sparc binary files
At this point, I can't follow the installation and abort it.

It autodetects OS type and will install Solaris packages or RPMs as appropriate.

    Hi
From the Unix prompt enter oemapp console(for v9.x). If you are using earlier versions it is oemapp console (for starting the console) and oemapp dbastudio(for starting dba studio)
For starting OMS enter: oemctrl start oms.

  • Solaris 10 NFS client and readdir

I have a Solaris 10 u5 client that mounts a directory using NFS from a Mac OS X server. The mount works fine and programs and tools such as /bin/ls, etc work ok. However, several programs that I have that use the readdir (or readdir_r) library calls never return lists of files from this NFS mounted directory (point these programs at a ufs/zfs file system and all works fine). I created a simple test using readdir and it happens in that as well. The only thing that it will find/list is the "." and the ".." directories for anything in the NFS mounted name space.
I found a reference to the nfs:nfs3_shrinkreaddir and the nfs:nfs_shrinkreaddir solaris tunable parameters and placed them both in the /etc/system file and rebooted, but it did not change the behavior. I also tried setting the nfs:nfs_disable_rddir_cache=1 and related entities to no avail.
I also noticed that tar was dumping core reading this directory, but have found a patch for tar to fix this. It did not include any guidance on nfs parameters for Mac OS X or similar NFS v3 servers.
Is there some set of NFS settings that I can make that will enable this Solaris client to mount the file system and be able to actually read the directories and files?

I believe I have found my problem. Turns out that it appears to be only remotely related to NFS. The application I have is built for 32 bits and the O/S is an i386/x64 system. Apparently, readdir fails when it gets an "nfs" inode when it is built in 32 bit mode - works fine when compiled with -m64. So now I need to track down some x64 builds of the failing packages.

  • OID - OperationalNotSupportedException: [LDAP: error code 53 - Server ... ]

    Hi,
    I'm using JNDI (Java Native Directory Interface) accessing OID, and I received a javax.naming.OperationalNotSupportedException: [LDAP: error code 53 - Server currently in read only mode.  Update operations not allowed];
I am not sure what's wrong.
    I tried the following command
    "./ldapsearch -b "" -s base "objectclass=*" orclservermode" The returned result is "orclservermode=rw"
So it is in read-write mode. I'm not sure what's wrong.
This started happen after I apply the 10.1.4.2.0 patch.

Unfortunately I am not an OID expert so I can't really comment on the OID server part of the problem.
What I actually have plenty of experience of is the JNDI package and there has been a number of times when the error messages produced by JNDI have been cryptic or simply wrong. I would recommend sniffing the LDAP connection and check what error messages are actually created by the OID server.
    Good luck!

  • Does solaris dhcp server support user class

Does solaris dhcp server support user class(option 77). In my environment, solaris dhcp server seems just ignore this option set in the client dhcp discover.
    Does anybody can help me.

The clients are all Windows 7 x64 (but I've replicated the problem on MacOS and Solaris clients). The server is Solaris 11 x86.
For the problem to be the ARP cache, wouldn't the client's MAC address have to change during the reboot (i.e. the change in the client's MAC address is what causes the ARP cache to get confused, and hence the client gets blocked because of the MAC mismatch)?

    Nathalie,
LDAP authentication against AD is fully supported since AD is LDAP v3 compliant.
For the Unix and Linux versions of XIR2 / XI31, LDAP is really your only choice since the Active Directory tab is not displayed unless your CMS is on windows.
To get LDAP working against AD I would recommend the following::
    1) Use an IP address
You can use the IP of a Domain Controller or a Global Catalog Server depending on how large your AD domain is.
    2) Use port 3268 over 389 for large AD configurations.
This port is the Global Catalog server port.  The GC server contains all the information about all objects in an AD Forest.  This is useful when using groups across multiple domains where 389 just contains information in 1 domain.
    3) Change your Application Mappings
On the LDAP tab, connecting to AD wont work unless you make a few changes.  First, change your Application mappings to "Microsoft Active Directory Application Server" and then choose "Show Application Mappings".
    Change:
    User Name: sAMAccountName
    Default User Search Attribute: sAMAccountName
These settings should work for you.
Also note that the group "Domain Users" is not valid when querying AD via LDAP.

    -Brian

  • Compiling oracle 6i forms on Oracle Apps Server 10g on Solaris 10 server

I am tryin to compile oracle 6i forms which are workin on anohter linux server. I have an .env file where $ORACLE_HOME and other parameters are mentioned. # - In JDK 1.4.1 the location of libjvm.so is lib/sparc (there is no
    # classic directory) so we do not include the .../classic directory
    # below. There are other versions of libjvm.so (in directories server,

  • \\SERVER\Clients\Setup\setup.exe with Windows Vista Error

I added the first Vista client to an SBS 2003, SP1 domain.  Until now, all clients were WinXP, SP2.  Office 2003 is installed on the XP clients, and the Vista client, which may not be pertinent to this problem.
As is normal, "\\SERVER\Clients\Setup\setup.exe /s SERVER" is executed when a user logs on to any domain client.  On the Vista client, I always get the dialog -- regardless of the account privilege -- asking for permission to run Setup.exe.  It is annoying.  Occasionally, the Program Compatiblity Assistant will appear and advise there's a known compatiblity issue with Setup.exe.  It points to KB article 926505 for resolution.  The title of the KB is, "Windows Small Business Server 2003: Windows Vista and Outlook 2007 compatibility update."
When I run the SBS2003SP1-KB926505-X86-ENU.EXE fix, I get the error:  "This update cannot be installed.  Either it is already installed as part of an existing service pack, or it requires a more recent service pack.  For more information, see the systems requirements on the download page."
I installed Windows Server 2003 SP2 and run the KB926505 fix, but I get the same error  "This update cannot be installed.  Either it is already installed as part of an existing service pack" After a reboot of te SBS server the same  problem on the Vista client, I always get the dialog -- regardless of the account privilege -- asking for permission to run Setup.exe.  It is annoying.  Occasionally, the Program Compatiblity Assistant will appear and advise there's a known compatiblity issue with Setup.exe.  It points to KB article 926505 for resolution.
The problem is Windows Vista Business, because all windows XP clients have no problem at all.

    PNP,
You do not say whether if you accept the permission dialog whether the setup continues or not, but the short answer to the question revolves around UAC.
Remember that EVERY user (except the actual Administrator account) has only Standard user rights regardless of group.  When a task that requires Admin rights is executed, one of three things will happen: 1) If you are THE Administrator, then your task will continue.  2) If you have Admin rights, you will be prompted that a process is trying to use elevated rights and ask for permission, or 3) If you are a Standard user, you will either be denied flatly or prompted to supply credentials.  Which of these happen depend on GPO settings, but the default is to prompt.
In any event, I believe that this is what you are running into, and is one of the big feature improvements in Vista.  Yes, it can be a bit annoying (Try deleting an "All Users" icon from the Start Menu!) but is there to place one more barrier between virus and malware writers and your OS.
If it's TOO annoying to bear, you can turn off UAC by going into your profile and disabling it. (It requires Admin rights, of course. )  It is not recommended as you do a very effective job or nutering the Vista Security Model by doing so.
If it, of course, your choice.  we IT Admins have a lot more issues with this than the standard user, but for me, I gladly take the tradeoff because I worry a lot less about those few I HAVE to give Admin rights to.
    Good luck!

regarding mountain lion server: clients experience intermittent service connections. the server system log has the following error- Client handshake failed (6):113: Server not accepting client connections. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - thank you

    Hi Jason
I was getting the same behavior after Apple support had me delete some plist files to get Airplay going. I was also getting the following error:
the error occurred while processing a command of type 'writesettings' in the plug-in 'server vpn'
I went into ~/Library/Preferences/ and /Library/Preferences/ and deleted every plist contating the word server. I had to re-set up my server (meaning walk through some intial steps) but all of my settings were still there after that and everything started working again.
Just a thought, obviously try at your own risk but it worked for me.

  • Moving Oracle 9i database from AIX server to Sun Solaris 9 server

I want to move my oracle 9i database residing on AIX server to Sun Solaris 9 server.
The database residing on AIX server has the following features :-
    1. It is a production database.
    2. Running in NOARCHIVE LOG Mode.
    3. It was Live for few weeks, hence transactions are stored on it.
    4. It has one schema,around 700 tables & 129 views.....etc
    5. Huge downtime is affordable.
What is the safest way to do so ??
    Yachendra

    Hi Yachendra,
    1. It is a production database.
    2. Running in NOARCHIVE LOG Mode.By the way do you have any idea that PRODUCTION databases are always kept in ARCHIVE LOG Mode. It's is highly advice able.
    3. It was Live for few weeks, hence transactions are stored on it.If you are really serious about your data and don't want to lose anything and wants to perform CROSS PLATFORM you must make sure that you have all your achive logs.
my oracle 9i database residing on AIX serverYou have already got the solution regarding that. Maran has told you for EXPORT/ IMPORT and Burleson has given you enough documents to consult.
    Thanks

  • O.S. / Hard Drive Size for NIO Server/Client's load testing...

    Hi All
I am currently load testing a NIO Server/Client's to see what would be the maximum number of connections that could reached, using the following PC: P4, 3GHz, 1GB RAM, Windows XP, SP2, 110 GB Hard Drive.
However, I would like to test the Server/Client performance on different OS's:
Which would be the best possible option from the following:
    1. Partition my current drive, (using e.g. Partition Magic), to e.g.
    - Win XP: 90 GB
    - Win Server 2000: 10 GB
    - Linux: 5 GB
    - Shared/Data: 5 GB
    2. Install a separate Hard drive with the different hard drives
    3. Use a disk caddie, to swap in/out test hard drives.
    4. Any thing else?
    - Would the Operating System's hard drive size affect the Server/Client's performance, e.g. affecting the number of connections, number of File Handles, the virtual memory, etc.?
    Many Thanks,
    Matt

You can use a partition on the same HDD or use a second HDD, disk caddie well if its a direct IDE or SCSI. If its usb no it will be too slow, may be if you have a fire-wire but I still don't recommend it.
Be careful if you don't have any experience installing Linux you may do multiple partitions on you disk without knowing, because Linux ext partitions are not visible to windows.
Recommended disk size for fedora is 10 GB. This is the amount of data that will be created on you HDD when you do a full installation.

  • Java Server/Client Applicaton - problem with sending data back

    Hello!
I'm trying to write a small server/client chat application in Java. It's server with availability to accept connections from many clients and it's app just for fun... However, I've come up against a huge problem: everything what clients send, arrives to server (I'm sure about that because it is displayed on the Server Application screen) and then server should send it back to all clients but it doesn't work. I have no faintest idea what causes this problem. Maybe you can help me?
Here is my server app code:

        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Client client = new Client("localhost", 5000);
}By the way, this app is mainly written in English language (text that appears on the screen) however in functions I used Polish language (for example: BLAD - it means ERROR in English). Sorry for that :)

Yeap, I will change those exceptions later, thanks for advice.
You asked what's going on with it: both applications start with no errors, but when I write something in client side it should be sent to the server and then forwarded to all connected clients but it stops somewhere. However, I added a one line to the server code
    line = in.readUTF();
    System.out.println(line);
sendToAll(line); and after it reads message from client (no matter which one) it shows that message on the server side screen, then it should send this message to all clients but it doesn't work in this moment. What's confusing: no errors occurs, so it's rather a mistake in my code, but where?
