Learning either Flex or ajax to create a searchable database

Greetings Flex forum,
I've just created a site for my small property rental company and am ready to make it more sophisticated. Currently, I have a form on the site which has about 20 fields of criteria - bedrooms, baths, price range, area, amenities, etc - to begin a property search. Once the form is submitted, I receive an e-mail and then I perform a search on a 3rd party data base and then I e-mail the results to the new client.
Since there are only about 1,000 options in my market, I'd like to have my own searchable data base on my site which will automatically send the results to the client. I am trying to determine the magnitude of this project and which direction to go - ajax or flex. I'm heavily leaning toward flex, mostly becasue of the community.
Is Flex suited for this kind of a project? Also, is it nescessary to have dreamweaver to upload my completed project to my site or are there other ways to do it with Flex?

Ok, I think I found my problem.
oracle-xe configuration runs a script called XE.sh to create the databse in
oradata/XE. This script is failing because the init.ora and initXETemp.ora
have two parameters which are not being set.
I changed these:
sga_target=%sga_target%
pga_aggregate_target=%pga_aggregate_target%
to:
sga_target=209715200
pga_aggregate_target=69206016
in both .ora files. Erased /etc/default/oracle-xe and reconfigured.
Now the database is created in oradata/XE.
If anyone knows why these parameters are not being populated or if these
numbers are not correct please let me know.

I just finished creating a searchable database in Adobe Acrobat Pro and it finds documents based off of search terms fine. It does not however locate documents based off of the Bates number that I am using as a search term. Why won't it let me do this?

In addition you cna try these steps :

> Disable all the Antivirus softwares like CA, Norton,Mc Afee etc. temporarily from the computer.
Reboot and try installing in the new enabled Admin user account and check.

How do you create a searchable property list?

I am trying to create a searchable database of historic military figures. It will be a permanent list of people that will not change. I need to be able to search the list by first and/or last name and create a selectable list. Once a search list is created you can click on a name to display all the data on that person. Also there should be an option to browse the entire list. The original 1000 name list is provided in an excel document. I am having a brain freeze on this. Any examples would be helpful. Thank you!

The simplest option might be to use a genuine database instead of a property list. For example, there's a free xtra from Valentin Schmidt for this (SQLite xtra)
Otherwise, you might create a list of property lists, with named properties being keys to search on, something like:

lData.append(lPerson)

I am tryng to create a Flex Project, but got stuck with an error....
The Error is Invalid root. The WEB-INF/flex folder must contain either flex-config.xml or services-config.xml.
Initially I download jboss-5.1.0.GA and placed it in C folder.
While creating project, I selected J2EE server, selected remote object access service and LiveCycle Data Services...
In the next step, I de-selected the use default location for local LiveCycle Data Services server.
In the root folder - C:\jboss-5.1.0.GA
for Root URL: http://localhost:8700/flex/
Context Root: /flex
when I clicl Validate Configuration.. this is the error I get Invalid root. The WEB-INF/flex folder must contain either flex-config.xml or services-config.xml.
I can't understand what is going wrong here....any ideas....

Run the wizard, select ColdFusion as the server technology, but don't
check the option to use remote object access service. Then, open the
project properties dialog, go to the Flex Compiler page, and add a the
compiler flag: -services
"C:\ColdFusion8\wwwroot\WEB-INF\flex\services-config.xml" (obviously
changing the path as appropriate). This flag is what gets set by the

Above is a work-around/solution that was successful for me. Below are screen shots of how I initially configured the project, following the above solution.
In the image above, notice how I didn't tick the "Use remote object access service" checkbox.
For the image below, the 'Y:\' value is a mapped network directory to my server (IIS) webroot, which is "\\windowsserver/Inetpub/wwwroot/". Root URL is the name of my server. Fill in the fields with correct values and hit finish.
Then navigate ( Project>Properties>Flex Compiler ) to this project's 'Flex Compiler context menu.
And 'W:\' is another mapped network directory that points obviously to my Coldfusion's WEB-INF\flex.
I hope that this helps. As you may see, I'm hoping that this will help you and others that are likely to come across problem.

no. no answer as yet. Seems to be a connection issue with the
Windows 2003 Server, although all the seetings are correct.
I installed WAMP Server 2.0 locally to see if I can get the
project running locally, and it works fine. I can connect no
problem to the MySQL Database on my local PC. I might just have to
migrate everything over manually once the project is
complete.

Actually concurrent program completes successfully but when I open output, it says that invoice is rejected and it gives the following error message: ZX_TAX_RATE_ID_CODE_MISSING, Populate either tax_rate_id or tax_rate_code to create a valid tax line.
I've checked metalink and found this closest match:

FLEX or Ajax?

First time in a long time posting in the SUN java forums.
To the extent that Ajax and FLEX are comparable. On a J2EE platform what would be the relative merits and problems of using one or the other (FLEX as opposed to Ajax)?
Which integrates more easily etc? I'm aware that there's also a JavaFX but I've been told, by the interested parties, that JavaFX (for reasons I don't know) is off the table.

And of fairly recent vintage. Always an important consideration. A sort of rule is: if it's software (or IT) related information and older than 2 yrs, you can ignore/throw it away.

Access key needed when creating a new database table with SE11

Hi,
I'm using SAP Testdrive (evaluation) on linux in order to learn a bit about ABAP programming. I want to create a new database table in the dictionary to be used in my programs. I proceed in the following way:
1) I run the SE11 transaction
2) At the first entry I write the name of the table to be created (in the Database Table field)
3) I click on the create button.
But then the system asks me an Access Key to register, where can I get this?

Ok I found the answer to my question in another thread

Make sure that your program names starts with "Z" or "Y", otherwise the system will ask you to register the object because it thinks you are creating/changing in the SAP namespace.
In fact this was my error, my table name didn't start with neither "Z" nor "Y".

Create a new Database in an other server using a copie of RMAN backup

I want to create an other instance for our production database. We have disk and tape in rman backup. My question is can i create a new database using our disk backup in an other server?

By means of the use of Recovery Manager it is possible to duplicate a database out from a previously taken rman backup. The method will be outlined in the next few lines.
Let's assume a source database named SRCDB and the target database, named GEMINI. A unix like environment is assumed, but it can be implemented on windows as well, just beware of the particular Oracle implementation on a windows platform (orapwd file name, service creation, path format)
1. Create a password file for the Cloned (GEMINI) instance:
orapwd file=/u01/app/oracle/product/9.2.0.1.0/dbs/orapwGEMINI password=password entries=10
2. Configure tnsnames.ora and listner.ora
Properly identify the database at the tnsnames.ora and have the instance manually registered against the listener.ora files, both files located at the $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin directory.
2.a Manually register the database against the listener (listener.ora)

(ORACLE_HOME = /u01/app/oracle/product/9.2.0.1.0)
(SID_NAME = GEMINI)
2.b Added the target GEMINI to the tnsnames.ora

5. Create an SPFILE based on the init.ora
CREATE SPFILE FROM PFILE='/u01/app/oracle/admin/GEMINI/pfile/init.ora';
6. Start the database in NOMOUNT mode:
STARTUP FORCE NOMOUNT;
7. Connect to the TARGET, CATALOG and AUXILIARY databases.
By means of the rman three connections are open, one for the Source Database (SOURCEDB), another for the Catalog database (RCAT), and one more for the cloned database (GEMINI)
ORACLE_SID=GEMINI; export ORACLE_SID
rman TARGET sys/password@SRCDB CATALOG rman/rman@RCAT AUXILIARY /
8. Complete or Incomplete clone (recover)
From the rman the database using one of the following commands:
8.a Clone the database by means of a complete recover.
DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE TO GEMINI;
8.b Clone the database up to a defined point in time in the past by means of an incomplete recover
DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE TO GEMINI UNTIL TIME 'SYSDATE-2';
9. Process finished.
Once the process is finished, the newly created GEMINI database is ready to be used as an independent new cloned database.

Problem in Creating a new database in Oracle 9i

I have installed Oracle 9i for Windows successfully. Now when I try to create a new database either using the Database Configuration Assistant or using the script generated by the Assistant, I get an error message that DATABASE NOT OPEN. So the database will not be created. Please help in this regard, so that I can create a database and I can start working on Oracle 9i.

I have executed the following commands (which are in a script file),
1. sqlplus /nolog
2. connect sys/change_on_install as sysdba
3. create database ...
4. ...
When I execute the 3rd command, I get an error message as "ORACLE TERMINATED FORCED" and it will end the session. So when the next set of commands in the script are executed, I got the error saying "DATABASE NOT OPEN".
How to rectify this problem.

Problem creating physical Standby database with RMAN

I am trying to learn oracle dataguard and as part of the process learning creating standby database.
Platform : Sun-Fire-V250 Sparc, Solaris 10
Database Version - Oracle 11R2
I am creating standby database on same server, so directory structure is different.
Following the instructions on Oracle site I managed to create a functional physical standby database. But I am not able to create standby database using RMAN. These are the steps that I followed-
1.Set up all necessary parameters on primary database as done while creating physical standby database manually, eg setting force logging, creating standby logs etc.
2.Edited parameter file on primary database as done while creating manual pysical standby database creation. Some of the changes done are-

RMAN finishes without error but archive logs are not being tranported. Looking at the log, following caught my eye-
Error 1017 received logging on to the standby
Check that the primary and standby are using a password file
and remote_login_passwordfile is set to SHARED or EXCLUSIVE,
and that the SYS password is same in the password files.
returning error ORA-16191

So on both primary and standby I confirmed

To make double sure that password files are same, I shutdown both databases, delete password files and recreated with same credentials.
Password files are called - orapworcl11020 and orapwstdby_11
Can someone guide me where thisngs are going wrong here please.

I have intentionally given
sequence# BETWEEN 74 and 80
because I know in the current incarnaion of the database, max sequence is 78.
So my understanding is, the rows between 28-29 June are from previous incarnation, correct me if I am wrong
Archive files of the current incarnation, since I successfully created standby database are shipped but yet to be applied - am I right?
Then my final question is, when will these archives be applied to standby database?
I am sorry to ask too many questions but I am just trying to understand how it all works.

Creating a Standby Database with the Same Directory Structure

Hello gurus,
I am self-learning the feature Oracle Data Guard, so I am testing it on Oracle 10g R2.
At Oracle documentation there is a section F.4.: Creating a Standby Database with the Same Directory Structure*, that explains how to create a standby database with RMAN but there is something that I don´t understand:
In the standby server, I created a database with the SID equal to production database* with the objetive to have the same directory structure, but when I try to startup nomount the standby database with pfile appear this expected error:
ORA-16187: LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG contains duplicate, conflicting or invalid attributes
So my question is: Is possible have the Same Directory Structure on both: Production and StandBy server?

I have a doubt: How can you have the same directory structure if you have differents SIDs?, for example if you follow the OFA suggestions you would must have:
On Production server: */u01/app/oracle/oradata/PRIMARY/system.dbf*
On StandBy server: */u01/app/oracle/oradata/STANDBY/system.dbf*
Or you created the directory structure manually on StandBy server? For example replacing the string STANDBY* to PRIMARY* before create the database using dbca.

Create app from database doesn't work

hi all, i am new to developing in flex, and just set up a
test-database (php, mysql) - i created a php project, and when i
choose data->create application from database nothing happens
... just nothing ... any help would be very much appreciated, i am
sure it's a no-brainer, but i just can't figure it out at this

I see many threads about BLOB type but my question is related to the Flex Builder built-in feature "Create Application from Database".
Is there a way or a sw version to automatically use MySQL BLOB types when creating a PHP/database application?

Create Application from Database and Air

I have tried several time to use the create application from
database for an air app build in flex. I do the same steps and the
only difference is that I click the create button as air not web.
It does not seem to work. Does the create application from database
command (referencing php mysql) work with Air???
