Learning Flex for Web Development
Hello Folks,
I am new to flex. Previously i have been developing in PHP. I just thought of implementing a web based inventory management system in flex. Now in PHP, we have one html page that takes input and we re-direct it to a PHP page and it does the insert delete. But in flex, i can do all this on one page.. literally one page using view states.
So should i proceed with this approach OR is there an efficient way of page navigation in flex. Moreover, can we manage sessions in flex.??? Are there good resources for flex development for web like PHP???
Any help would be appreciated
States should generally only be used for small components that can change their UI in small ways.
In general for navigation in Flex, ViewStack is great, and also TabNavigator, Accordion, etc.
The following links give more info on this and also on using Flex with PHP and MySQL.

Best book for Web Developer learning flash
I've gotten far on my own just using online tutorials and dinking around in Flash on my own but my boss(es) are starting to ask for more complex stuff that I simply can't learn by just piecing together my Flash education.
I know there's many, many books out there that will teach you Flash but can anyone recommend any particular one(s) that are more concentrated in creating Web elements as opposed to game or animation development?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.I hope this link would be helpful for you books For web developer Using Flash by "William Sanders"

Hello,
I am a web developer developing intensive web apps using Java, JavaScript, LifeRay, MySQL etc. It means I have many things going on on my laptop like:
- IDE for editing the code
- MySQL server
- HTTP server to run developed apps
- Many browser windows to test the app
I am looking for a main development machine that will be fast for my needs plus that can be used while commuting so portability is important for me.
440s looks like a good machine BUT I am not sure about low powered intel CPU. This is exact model I am looking into: ThinkPad T440s 14" / i5-4210U 1.7 GHz / 8 Gt / 256 Gt SSD
1.7 GHz sounds very limiting. My current laptop has 2.5 GHz speed and browser windows are opened very fast. But if I try to slow down the CPU to 1.7 GHz similar to T440s browser windows starts to open with considerable annoying delays.
Ofcourse when slowing down CPU I also disable Turbo Boost.
Now the question: Is T440s good for web development with liferay etc? Will turbo boost solve the problem of slow opening chrome windows I experienced with another 1.7 GHz laptop? Generally, anyone have similar experience with this laptop? Any help will be appreciated.I hope this link would be helpful for you books For web developer Using Flash by "William Sanders"

Best program for web development?
Hello everyone
I was just wondering what is in your opinion the best tool for creating web based applications (or even desktop based applications).
I have used Jdeveloper and Dreamweaver before and Jdeveloper had a lot more functionality out of the box but Dreamweaver seemed to give me more freedom (especially when working with the design part of my page).
Also Jdeveloper is a lot more complex but I think without fully understanding every aspect of it you can develop some pretty nifty applications. My main gripe is the deployment which has to have the same version of weblogic and Jdeveloper and you have to install Jdeveloper on the server (the weblogic server alone isn't enough) to support ADF etc.
I don't have experience in the other ones (NetBeans, Eclipse, Visual Studio etc)
So the question is which is the best for web development: Visual Studio, Jdeveloper, Apex, Dreamweaver, NetBeans, IntelliJ, Eclipse etc???Dreamweaver is for the view part only, as in the (X)HTML and CSS stuff. You aren't going to do Java development using Dreamweaver.
There is no definitive answer to your question as you are basically asking this: what are my personal preferences? Nobody can answer that, only you. So there is nothing you can do but download everything you want to try and actually do that: try it out. See what feels good and what doesn't. Only then will you be able to make a choice.
All I can give you at this point in time is MY personal preferences, which do not have to be the same as yours at all. I use Eclipse for full blown JavaEE development because there are a few plugins available for Eclipse that are not available for Netbeans that I really like and use to good effects (mostly related to JBoss). For everything else however, which includes Swing development, game development and plain Java web development I use Netbeans because to me it is a more "polished" product where things such as Subversion and Maven integration just work without conflicts. -
Best Eclipse for Web development
I am going to download Eclipse and was wondering which one is the best for Web development on Tomcat?
Eclipse IDE for Java Developers
Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers // I assume this is best for web development?
Eclipse Classic 3.3.1.1hi,
Not only Eclipse,
Netbeans,
IntellijIdea is also there, but it comes under licence,
so what you feel is better, use that IDE.. -
Confused - jCreator or Netbeans for web developement
Hello,
With the Visual Web Pack in Netbeans, what IDE should I be using for web development?
Is there an advantage to JCreator over Netbeans?
Thanks
FrankVWP final release (or whatever they're calling it) is now available. The way I read it is this: VWP will have a niche for anyone who wants to develop the whole hog in one environment.
Creator has some ease of use features that will not be ported to VWP in the near future.
Not really mentioned is the fact that Creator can probably be faily easily aligned with the NB 5.5 code base now. (It's been stuck on the 4.1 or so branch apparently.) This may be one of the things to expect in the future if Sun chooses this route. -

Flex for Web/Graphics Designers
Hi,
I am a hard core web graphics designer and have worked
extensively in designing websites and web applications using CSS
and HTML. I have also created interactive presentations in Flash
but to the basic navigation level and not advance action scripting.
I do not have much knowledge in programming.
I would want to know how Flex works for web graphics
designers? What capabilities I will have to build into myself so
that I will be able to work on Flex and also propose solutions
while discussing with clients and developers?
It will be great help if any of you can guide me to become
and expert with Flex?
Regards,
AmitHi Rahul,
Thanks for the link. Let me go thorugh it and I'll get back
to you on that.
The reason for getting into Flex is: I feel it is related to
Flash and its really been a long time since i was deciding to get
into some programming (especially actionscripting). After
introduction of Flex, i thought it will be good to learn Flex as an
upcoming medium in creating RIAs by using actionscripting. In a way
I will get a chance to clear my fundamentals of programming which I
am looking forward to as the first step to learn the logic of
programming. Correct me if I'm worng.
I am open to doing courses also if needed. Please help me in
that.
Regards,

What's the best Java technology for web development?
I'm very new to J2EE (only worked with J2SE before), and I'm interested in how it works. I understand that JSP pages are somewhat similar to PHP scripts, etc... My question is, what should I be learning about if I want to write a website using Java?
Thanks.I'm very new to J2EE (only worked with J2SE before),
and I'm interested in how it works.
I understand that JSP pages are somewhat similar to PHP scripts,
etc... I don't think that's true, but I'll admit to not being a PHP user.
My question is, what should I be learning
about if I want to write a website using Java? You'll have to know:
servlet engine like Tomcat or a Java EE app server like JBOSS or WebLogic
HTML (this isn't Java per se)
JSP or Velocity or Freemarker (template technologies)
JSTL
servlets
JavaScript (this isn't Java per se)
Depending on what you want your web site to do, you'll have to know JDBC and SQL and relational databases if you have persistent data.
There are a lot of frameworks available for web apps. Google for a list, but the ones you'll hear come up most often are Struts, WebWork, and Java Server Faces.
Spring has a Web MVC framework and lots more. It would be worth a serious look.

How to apply a user style with the Stylish extension for Web Developer Tools?
I have firefox 27 and the fonts of Web Developer Tools (Inspector, Debugger..) are very small.
The fonts of Stylish editor are very small also.
Here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/943857 I found a similar question.
GingerBread Man said :
"If you need to modify anything else, you can use the DOM Inspector extension to examine user interface elements ("chrome"). "
My problem is that I can't find the names of elements e.g "chrome://browser/content/devtools/markup-view.xhtml"@the-edmeister
Thanks for your reply.
The rule below affects only Inspector
@namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);
@-moz-document url("chrome://browser/content/devtools/markup-view.'''xhtml'''") {
.devtools-monospace {
font-size: 120% !important;
I change the rule as you suggest.
@-moz-document url("chrome://browser/skin/devtools/markup-view.css") { ......}
It doesn't work. -
MacBook Pro for Web Develop/Photographer
I'm a student and I am travel photographer and web developer.I'm looking at buying a 13" Macbook Pro w/o Retina, however, I'm having trouble figuring out what configuration I need. Unfortunately, I know more about the web than I do about the inner workings of a computer. So I would love some suggestions on what to get for the processor and RAM storage.
The MacBook is going to act as my travel work laptop and it will go with me everywhere, cross country and overseas. It will be a place to offload my photos to Lightroom and do basic checking and editing. Video editing is going to occur very often. I'm also going to be using it as one of the main place for coding and designing websites
I would be running the following programs on it:
Adobe Lightroom
Adobe Fireworks(Or a similar program)
Adobe Photoshop (Or a similar program)
Adobe Premiere Pro (Or a similar program)
MAMP
Itunes
Multiple Browser
Text Editor
It would also be nice to have the option to add space if I would need to.
So what is the best set up for what I need? Should I get an I5 or I7 processor? What amount of memory should I get? What type of hard drive would be the best?
And is there anything else you suggest for me to get?
Also, would refurbished be a good option?
And don't just say get this. Please give me a reason as to why.
Thanks so much.I'd be curious to know what "issues" you think there are with the Retina MBPs. But at any rate, if you want the non-retina model I'd suggest you upgrade it to 8GB of RAM (more RAM is always better) and at least the 256 GB SSD. I also agree with Andy on using external HDDs for additional storage.
I am in a similar situation as you. I will be buying a new MBP later this year to replace my early-2011 15" MBP. I'm going to with the top model of 13" MBPr and will have additional external HDDs for backup and file storage. I don't do web development but I am an amateur photographer.
I can't stress this enough: do not forget the external HDDs for backups. Having current Time Machine backups will be critical in case of an emergency. Having an SSD in the MBP will dramatically reduce the possiblity of losing data but having backups is still important. -
13" or 15" for web development?
Hi guys,
I've decided I am switching to Mac (currently Ubuntu user), so I am looking for a new laptop. Since I am a web developer, there are some things that are really important to me:
Big resolution, so I can see a lot of code
Portability. The lighter - the better. Also, I need to be able to carry it around. So smaller is also better.
Great battery life.
Having said that, I think (correct me if I'm wrong), my two options are 13" vs 15". To be honest, I currently use a 15" and it's a bit biggish.
So, which of the two is better for development?
Kind regards,
DobromirI said it was biggish, not too big.
Basically I'm looking for an answer to "Is the 13" too small for coding or is it OK?", preferably from someone who has used it for that.
Of course, I've been to the apple store, but impressions can be quite different from opinions after daily use. -

Vinaywell vinay if u r thinking about -- Flex Front End to Your
Struts Applications
then ,,
Struts is an open source framework that facilitates the
development of web applications based on Java servlets and other
related technologies. Because it provides a solution to many of the
common problems developers face when building these applications,
Struts has been widely adopted in a large variety of development
efforts, from small projects to large-scale enterprise
applications.
Although Struts greatly facilitates the task of developers,
it doesn't do much to improve the end-user experience: the
end-result is still an application delivered in HTML and using the
traditional HTTP request/response mechanism.
Developers—and organizations in general—are
increasingly looking for solutions to provide their applications
with a more engaging user experience that overcomes the limitations
of HTML.
Macromedia Flex is a presentation server that addresses this
requirement and allows developers to build a new generation of Rich
Internet Applications (RIAs) that combine the usability of desktop
applications with the reach of traditional web applications.
