Leaving external program running and closing my app.

Hello,
I'm calling an external program from my java code and that program takes about 1hr to end its tasks so i want to en my calling program meanwhile.
Is there a way to do this?

My caller program is a console based program
The program to be called is started by .sh script in unix/.bat in windows
The caller program performs the call to the second and the second program is started but the problem is the caller program never ends, it just waits to the called program ends its tasks and then it ends. I dont want this.
I want the second program be started and the caller program can ends without taking care in which moment the second program ends, of course in automatic way, with no final user ending the caller program.

Is it harmful to always leave several programs open and never shutting computer down?

I never shut down my computer and simply let it to sleep. I also let it sleep and leave several programs like illustrator open all the time. Is this good for the computer or should I be closing down applications regularly?

When I turn on computer, below my name it says program running.This appears before I log on to internet.

Open up System Preferences>Startup Disk and make sure the Macintosh HD, or whatever you may have named it, is set there. Also reset the PRAM. Shutdown, hold down Option(alt)-Cmd-P-R all togther at the startup chime, wait until you hear two more chimes, total three chimes, then let go to finish booting.

Program Compatibility Assistant popping up after running and closing .EXE flash created by adobe cap

I am using windows 7. I have a .Exe flash file created using Adobe Captivate. I have closed the file after running it successfully. Then this message popped up.
Why this message is coming even after successful playing of flash? Is there any way to avoid this?

Are you using Captivate version 5 or 5.5? Do you know the version of Flash Player Installed? I have not seen this message appear any time, can you please confirm in one more machine? What flavor of Win 7 do you have?

'cannot complete your request - program error' and/or 'this app has been moved'

Does anyone recognize this issue: I want to override the default app used in opening a particular file on the finder, using the contextual menu under the control key and choosing PSD CS3; these days, I get an error message saying the app was moved and repairs must be made. Whether I cancel or not, it launches what appears to be a collateral version of PSD CS3 and opens the file. That can't be good....
Additionally, I keep getting errors: "cannot complete your request because of a program error....." increasingly more frequent.......
I would be most grateful for any ideas!

I just found this on an old OSXhints page from 2003:
"I posted this on the Adobe Photoshop Support forum but am posting it here, too. The original idea for the solution was taken from a hint on this site so, in effect, the hint belongs here. I solved a problem with a Photoshop 7 install running under OS X 10.3 (Panther) on a new PowerBook G4 15." I expect that this experience should apply to any Panther install and should not be specific to PowerBooks.
Problem:Files not owned by Photoshop (generic JPEGs, GIFs, Adobe Illustrator files, etc.) will not open. Photoshop will go through the motion of opening the file (e.g. display the Profile dialog or, in the case of Illustrator files, display the Rasterization Settings dialog) but will fail to open the file and display a dialog stating that the file cannot be opened due to a "Program Error". Files are opened by several means: Via the application's "Open" command, drag-and-dropped onto the Dock icon, and Control-Click then Open-With in the Finder.
Files that are owned by Photoshop open fine. By "owned" I do not mean in the Unix permissions sense but in the owner application sense, i.e., if Get Info on the file the application listed under "Kind" is Photoshop. The problem files previously worked with this installation of Photoshop and the user reported that "This just started happening." No OS updates or software installs had occured before onset of the problem.
Other Adobe applications work fine, as do all other applications in general on this machine. File corruption and/or disk problems were not expected given the age of the machine and the amount of use it has had since first-use. These files are all maintained locally on the machine as the user normally works in a stand-alone environment.
I created a new user on this machine and logged in as that user. In this user account, Photoshop behaves correctly, implying that the problem is user-specific which indicts preference files as opposed to something systemic or application-specific. I deleted all Photoshop preference files I could find in ~username/Library but this did not solve the problem. The "Fast User Switching" was a great help in this process since I could very quickly switch back-and-forth between accounts as I tested various corrective actions.
Solution:I renamed the Library folder of the problem user account to "Library Old". Any name will work as long as it is different from "Library". Logged-out and logged-in, and the system re-created the Library folder. At this point, the account had lost almost all personalization and/or configuration settings, but Photoshop's operation was restored to normal. After verifying Photoshop's operation, I rebuilt all the lost personalization/configuration from notes, etc.
I found this hint on macosxhints.com. The hint did not apply to Photoshop but more generally directed to preference-related problems that could not be resolved by removing/replacing the application's preference files."

Calling a VI to run and closing the caller VI

what I wanted to ask is:
lets say I'm running a VI who is calling another VI.
now I want to close the first one and leave the second one running.
can it be done? and if so how?

That's a property node. What I had shown in my example is an invoke node. You will need to learn about property nodes and invoke nodes which can be used to act on specific LabVIEW classes, such as VI references and control references. You can learn about these in the LabVIEW Help and in the examples that ship with LabVIEW. For control references you can take a look at this: Control References: Overview. For a VI the same concepts apply, except you just have a different list of properties and methods.
To pass values to a VI that you call dynamically you therefore have to use the appropiate methods, like in this example:

Background program running and can't figure out what it is...

I have an IMAC desktop, I just purchased the Photoshop Elements 10 software for MAC, installed it, running fine. But now I have program that is contanstly running in the background that is slowing up all of my other applications I run while I'm working. I've checked the Activity Monitor but I can't see anything out of the norm...Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm very frustrated....

I presume you mean that the hard drive is working on something. Again, any such process would show in the Activity Monitor. Check that again, confirming that you have "all processes" set so you can see everthing that's going on. It will be easiest to spot anything unusual if you click on the "% CPU" column header to sort by the amount of CPU time each process is using. Click twice so that the arrow is pointing downwards; then the top users of CPU time will be listed at the top. Post the name of any process that's consistently or unexpectedly using a significant amount of CPU time and we can probably figure out what's happening and offer suggestions.

TS1702 CNBC for Ipad crashes on opening, every time. I have deleted and reinstalled it 3 times. Opening and closing the app doesn't help, nor does restarting the Ipad. What to do..??

Try quitting EVERY app in the task bar, restart and then try the app again.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
A personal observation ....
I am of the belief that some apps will just not run on my iPad. I have two apps that I have given up on. They were free apps and neither is that big of a deal. I have tried everything that I could think of to get them to work and nothing fixed the situation.
What I am saying is - and you may not like the answer - if you can't get the app to work, just let it go. Find another news app that works for you, or log onto CNBC via a web browser if you have to.
That doesn't mean that you should give up now, I just mean don't drive yourself batty trying to get a non essential news app to work. That is merely my opinion based on my own experiences with apps that gave me grief!

Opens/ program runs and minimzes maximizes and closes, yet every other part if the program doesnt work

i can open/ run firefox. it can be maximized or resized no problem. links on desktop will open. yet when i go to click on the search bar, or on anything the main frame is un responsive. i have reinstalled previous versions and the most resent. nothing fixes the problem. i love using firefox and tend to have little to no problems. to recap. it starts up, can be resized or close, yet nothing not even the help button can be clicked. what can i do? does this mean i need to use opera or ie to access the internet now. oh nooooo.

how i fixed this problem:
-uninstalled/ reinstalled Firefox 16.0.1 twice (problem was still there)
-uninstalled Firefox and checked off remove personal settings/ bookmarks
-used cell to download previous Firefox 15.0.1 (USB transferred .exe to desktop)
-then i cleared my %temp% + my recycle bin
-ran (one by one) AdAware + McAfee + TrendMicro Housecall virus
software
-i then purposelessly hard crashed laptop twice during boot
-ran boot recovery
-ran (one by one) disk clean up + disk defrag
-rebooted
-reinstalled Firefox 15.0.1 (aka older version) (checked and saw it worked)
-rebooted
it took 7 hours to fix (i was playing games on another console half the time). as it is all works fine, again. some bookmarks still missing (on the weekend i weekly/bi-weekly backup bookmarks). oh well atleast i can still use Firefox. i think the problem was due to a theme that 16.0.1 couldn't properly run, so it corrupted the whole program interface. geek power geek love.

CV02N - leaving document after saving and closing excel

i change a document (excel file) in transaction cv02n.
Now i save the file and close excel.
After that the document is automatically leaving to the initial screen of transaction cv02n.
How can i avoid that? Customizing?

Hi, if you have an instant messengers like yahoo, msn or aol etc in the system tray(area near the clock) you need to right click on them and disable/quit/exit.
Or if you have any Realtime Anti-Virus running in the background that uses Flash.
If you are using a direct download then close all browser windows except the one you are using.
