Lenovo G550 Video card

Hi i just got my Lenovo G550 and i was wondering if there was a way to upgrade the graphics card on it. I know its got a dedicated card in it so i cant just swap it out but i was wondering if there was another type of motherboard that would be compatable that doesnt have a dedicated graphics card that way i could upgrade it

You must to search for FRU list and see if there any motherboard for your G550 that support discrete graphics.

  • Lenovo H430 video card problem

    Hi All,
I searched a little bit through the forum but didn't find an answer to the problem that I'm having. Apologies if it's been answered and I just missed it..
I have a H430 desktop with an i3-2120. I recently bought a Quadro 600 to install into the box. When I install the video card and turn on the box, all I see is the Lenovo boot screen. Nothing happens, then I heard 2 beeps. Normally, I would have associated this with the RAM, but the machine runs fine when I'm using the integrated graphics.
I'm using the original 280 watt power supply, but the Quadro only uses 40 watts max. Any ideas on what the problem might be??
    Thanks in advance!

    hi spikeyboi,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Check this thread posted by ParadiseDecay as a few people found it helpful to resolve their video card upgrade problem.
    The solution was to:
    1. Boot into the BIOS (by pressing F1 on startup) without the discrete video card
    2. On the BIOS, navigate to the Startup tab and look UEFI, CSM, or Secure Boot and set the value to either Disable / Legacy or Compatibility.
    3. Press F10 to save the settings and exit BIOS
    4. Power off the PC, Insert the discrete video card and test
    Hope this helps.

  • Lenovo G500 video card problem

    Hello,i have bought a laptop
    Lenovo IdeaPad G500 59-377575
with intel b960 and amd hd 8570m.my main problem is that my amd video card is not installing with the drivers from cd or from internet (http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/avga110w8.exe) .it gives me an error that says (installation complete(warnings occured during installation)).With this driver (download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/f809gv0e.exe) the video card is giving me the same error but is installing.the performance is a bit better than intel hd but i can not play test drive unlimited on screen resolution with high details.i have only 20-30fps.is much worse than my old amd hd 6470m.i am using win 8 64 bit.
i hope you can help me.
    meery christmas to all!

Does the computer feel overly warm when the errors occur? If so the Video Card may be overheating, or have a hardware issue. If your notebook is under warranty - would suggest contacting Lenovo Support directly for service.

  • Lenovo G510 video card problem

Hi there! Since a while I'm having some problems with my laptop's Video card. When I try to launch a game using the AMD Graphic card by going to 'Switchable Graphics', the game is not working, I mena I can hear the background sound of the game but the screen is black. When I switch to Intel Graphic Card the game is working perfectly.
When I go to Device Manager, I can see both Intel and AMD graphic card. But When I use FurMark I can only see the Intel Graphic Card which is the only one which works.
When I launch TechPowerUp GPU-Z I get an error which tells me to update my OPENCL and my video card driver.
    Any ideas, please?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
Just delete both Intel and AMD graphics drivers in Device Manager and make sure to delete softwares of the respective graphics too (can be done in Programs and Features, found in control panel)
Then first install Intel Graphics driver and then install AMD graphics driver from support site respective of your OS.
And do not update your Intel drivers from Windows Update and neither directly from AMD website.
It is prefered to install manufacturer drivers as they may be customised according to our machines.
Im using G510 on Windows 8.1 Pro x64
AMD Radeon HD 8570M, Intel HD 4600

  • Lenovo G550 Sound Card Problem

On my laptop G550 I am not able to record any sound. In all used programs the only input device to choose is the microphone. In the control panel I also canť display any other audio devices  ( disconnected or disabled) so the only hardware I see is the mic and the stereo.
Can anybody help me how to fix this?

If you are trying to record what you hear / playing through your speakers for whatever reason Lenovo has seem to have left that feature out thinking no one needed it. There is several posts in here about that issue and per CLEO and MARK Lenovo is aware that users that create music need that feature and will look into adding that in future laptops. So that is must likely the issue. If I find a fix for my G555 I will let you know as it may work for you. (but I doubt it)

  • ThinkStation P700 - adding a third-party video card: supplementary power connectors?

    Hi all,
I have recently purchased a ThinkStation P700 to replace my ageing setup and hopefully serve me for many years to come - It has not yet arrived (that's a different story altogether...).
I have a bit of a dillema regarding the video card I purchased for it. For my work I need CPU, much less so GPU, and especially not a Quadro. So for pure pleasure I added a GeForce GTX Titan Black (yes, I know that Lenovo will will not provide support for stability issues caused by this, etc, etc). I have the card already - here's my problem:
The card uses external power - it has one 8-pin and one 6-pin PCIe power connector on top of the board. With adapters I can get this to three 6-pin or multiple Molex, etc. The motherboard and the PSU in the P700 however, are so well designed and modular, that they almost seem too modular... I looked up the motherboard layout in the manual, and there are only 4-pin (?) connectors on the board, which are supposedly meant to be used with video cards. After a very long session with google it seems that hardly anyone has even heard of 4-pin power connectors for PCIe. Looking at pictures of the chassis available online, everything seems completely self-contained - the PSU slots into the board, and there are no free-hanging cables available whatsoever - am I right? Also pictures showing two full-size video cards installed, do not show power cables at all - maybe they're just cute marketing pics - the Quadros have power ports at the back - I simply can't see power cables in those pics, and the motherboard sockets are free. Obviously I know that the 4-pin, 6-pin and 8-pin are only combinations of 12V rails and ground.
    So my questions are:
    - are there any 6-pin or 8-pin connectors or Molex available anywhere at all?
    - is there a spare part in the form of a 4-pin to 6-pin adapter? Is it perhaps bundled with the P700?
    - how are the Lenovo-integrated video cards powered - surely with how thin the PCIE tracks are, they can't be powered only from the board - or can they?
    - is this perhaps a joke on me / catch to make sure I only buy the pre-approved cards?
    Thank you in advance.
    Regards,
    owczi
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
Now THAT was lots of info, and more. Much appreciated.
    1. Power connectors - Indeed, Titan (Black) is 8 + 6 - so I'm happy with the info I got from you guys so far.
    2. Specs listing dual K6000 - this site (looks like a Lenovo site?): http://thinkstation-specs.com/thinkstation-p700/ - there's a PDF with the same info there. This even says 3 x K6000 in SLI. I mean the board physically has three long slots, and three of those 4-pin ports that according to the manual have something to do with power - but I can't see this working. The psref site says K6000 (one) but the online shop will not let you configure the P700 with one - unless some other options preclude it and that's why I didn't see it.
    3. CPU - I have no need for dual CPUs right now so I went for a single E5-1650v3 - I bought the P700 not P500 just so that I have an upgrade option, I may not use the second socket in the end but who knows.
    4. Yes, I got the 9364-8i card (plus supercap module) - is this a Lenovo-specific model? Hard to find anything about it online - or is it just new? The blind mate assemblies are good news. So not much different to server-type drive caddies in the end - minus hot swap maybe.
    5. Regarding the drives - are the internal (not front - the bottom ones) drive bays also referred to as FLEX bays? Theye are four of them and I intend to use four drives only ( 2x 240G SSD RAID 1 pre-installed + 2 x 4TB RAID 1 mine) - so why do I need to stick two drives into one tray - or is this just if I wanted to maximise the number of drives usable? The 4TB drives are HGST UltraStar 7k4000 - standard, full-thickness 3.5". The SSDs are Lenovo's whatever - the "240G SSD" option - Intel I think, looking at psref.
    6. Shipping delays - see, this is the sort of concrete info I was looking for and I'm immensely thankful for this.
The rest is a rant/vent someone from Lenovo should read.
So - in the meantime I started giving Lenovo UK & Ireland some abuse over Twitter (sorry, but well deserved IMO) - name and shame does wonders in the age of social media.
Had I been told something along the lines of "sorry, new product, build issues, we're working on it", I would have (reluctantly) shut up and waited for my turn. I'm an engineer myself, supporting systems where minutes of downtime cost hundreds of thousands, and working with vendors a lot. Delays and issues happen, when an engineer tells me there's an issue and I don't sense B/S, I accept it.
If the product is still wet, don't open it for orders or say it's pre-order. I can see that in the US the P700 is still "coming soon", in the UK it suddenly became available so I ordered it.
However, the process here is broken: Lenovo UKI (is it the same in the US?) uses DigitalRiver as the shop/shipping/support front end. That's all well and good, outsourcing does work in some cases. BUT there's no way to view the estimated shipping dates - only customer support can retrieve them from Lenovo (why can't they just make this info available online - to avoid people over-relying on it?)
The Customer Support cannot tell me anything. The only thing they can do is pull an estimated shipping date out of some magic 8-ball. Two weeks pass since order, I ask CS, they give me Dec 18th shipping date. I call them on the 22nd, on the call with me they tell me it's now magically the 22nd. Come on...
Throughout all this time I got zero notifications about anything happening with the order, as far as the Lenovo site is concerned, it's "in process" since Nov 29. Do you know that when I order a Domino's pizza from round the corner, I get a live animated progress screen from order through assembly, baking, QA and delivery?
Yes, it costs money and yes, businesses pushing more consumer grade disposable **bleep** than anything else, don't care about customer loyalty anymore, but why don't you at least show the high-end customers some respect - why can't you implement a tracking process for custom builds, or at least keep people updated?
I specifically chose the Lenovo P-series because I have no doubt that they are the best on the market. Dell don't offer the same storage options and customisation options. HP are not up there either. Fujitsu Siemens make great machines with straightforward hinged doors and drive bays behind them, but they have a **bleep** distribution model i.e. via specialised resellers only, making it near-impossible for a regular mortal to buy - at least in the UK. So the sad thing here is that I will most likely just wait and you'll still get my money - but if the official channels keep treating me like an idiot, I am very tempted to take my $4k somewhere else.

Welcome to the forum. Please post a picture of device manager. That will give a much better idea of what's missing.
It is always best to install drivers in the following order. Chipset, Audio, Video, Ethernet, Energy Management and then the rest.

I'm not sure- but it would appear that I'd have to buy a new power supply as well, since the factory one I think is only 265??? Which seems pretty low for a system with an Intel Dual Core, DVD burner, 500 gig HD & 4gigs of memory! Seems most PCI express gaming cards need atleast 300 watts-

  • Lenovo Ideacentre K410 won't boot with video card after OS crash and refresh

I purchased a Lenovo Ideacentre K410 from Fry's some time ago. It came with Windows 8. I added a GeForceGTX650. Everything ran fine until yesterday, when the system black-screened in the middle of a Windows 8 update. The update was running from the control panel. After the black screen, I finally got the system to boot again by removing the video card. Even then it said the OS was messed up and offered to refresh it. I allowed it to refresh the OS. Now Windows 8 boots, but not if I put the video card back in. Thanks!

    Hi macaria,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
It might be that the Video Card is Bad that caused the Crash,
The system prompt you for a repair since it was not turned OFF properly when the computer Crashed.
Have the GPU Card tested on another computer or try a different GPU on your system.

  • Lenovo G550 - how can I run three monitors

I've just bought a Lenovo G550 and am running Windows XP Pro on it.   So far so good.  I'm quite happy with it as I think it represents good value for the money.
I have been able to run two external monitors on my G550 laptop - using the VGA port and the HDMI port.  But I can't get my laptop monitor to work to make it a third monitor.  Has anyone had any success with this and if so how did you do it.
    Thank you.
    Dovetail

Assuming, for the purposes of discussion, that the application allows you to display six windows, one for each stock, then if you were to use two 27" monitors, would the six windows properly arranged in the two monitors be sufficiently large to serve your purpose?  Your active window areas would be on the order of 900x500 pixels, assuming one of the plentiful 1920x1080 monitors.
Your other option would be two additional PCIe video cards.  From page 64 of your user guide, note the following:
Also, from the tech brief on the last G5 towers, note the following on page 10:
With any luck at all, our far eastern friend will be rising shortly and can provide a more definitive answer.
