Leopard 10.5 & CS2

Recently, I purchased the Mac Pro with Leopard 10.5, but the software I have, Creative Suite 2 Premium, says (when I try to install it on the new machine) that I need a new serial number. However, when I called Adobe, they said it wasn't a re-serializing issue at all, but that the CS2 software isn't compatible with the new OS, and that I'm forced to upgrade my software! What a gimmick! Is this really true? Isn't there a way to get CS2 to work on my new machine?

I dunno about all that. I'm running Photoshop CS1 in Leopard just fine. The problems (which were minor) were mostly solved by the 10.5.2 update. Of course, the big deal is that CS1 and CS2 do not run natively on my new Intel machine, so using it is no faster than it was on my old machine. To run natively I would have to upgrade to CS3.
Personally, I think Adobe was lying to you. Or the person you spoke to simply didn't know what they were talking about. I was recently involved in trying to upgrade both the Mac and Windows version of Photoshop (and Photoshop only) from the full CS2 version to Photoshop CS3, and failing with serial number problems. The photographer attempting the upgrade had called Adobe before purchasing and asked what they had to buy, followed the advice, bought what should (according to Adobe) have been the correct thing, and it failed on both the Mac and her Windows box with serial number problems.
Do you still have your old machine with Tiger and the CS2 install? If so, and you have your personal files backed up, you should be able to reinstall Leopard, then use migration assistant to get your old account and programs into Leopard. Check in the Install forum for detailed instructions:

Or try calling Adobe and ask to speak to someone higher up the food chain. Many people are running CS2 in Leopard.

  • O/S X 10.5 leopards and Adobe CS2

    Hello,
References : Go To : Adobe.com/ Upgrading to Leopard? Find out Adobe software compatibility
    Page 3
I have a new Mac Pro came with Tiger installed and a Leopard disk, and a G4 powerBook.
About using CS2 Illustrator and or Photoshop with Leopard.
I went for both computer to 10.5 update and CS2 was working fine on both. Still working fine on the Laptop.
But I had to erase my Mac Pro twice, Once because migration assistant put a mess, and a second the computer freeze at each startup.
So after erasing the disk I install directly 10.5, and here the problem start, when opening Illustrator I get the message Font missing and after that the pointer go back and forth to the colored ball time so you work at the speed of a snail or a turtle.I don't have this problem with my laptop.
If you have a problem reinstall Tiger, then update for Leopards.
I think is better to FireWire old and new Mac and copy/paste(drag) manually, and instal the application with the original disk (if you keep your old Mac as a target disk if you install an upgrade of CS 2 the Adobe installer will read your license key for the CS2 software, don't have to install all the original software specially if you started with Classic, mean Mac O/S 7 or 8 or 9)
    Why this Post?
When you buy a new computer a lot of money gone, Look at the questions in the discussion forum, about how memory I have to buy, so some people, like me, has to wait for the pricey CS3 upgrade.
    Hope this one help someone.
    Bye

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a Core Duo Mac, click here, install the DVD, and run Software Update.
If it's a Core 2 Duo or better Mac, follow the Core Duo instructions, and if desired, open the Mac App Store, and try downloading 10.9. If you get told it's incompatible, go to the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004. If you upgrade the OS, back up the computer first.

  • Upgraded to Snow Leopard and now CS2 wont launch

I've just installed Mav OS X Snow Leopard on my ancient MacBook and now my very old photoshop CS2 wont launch - it was working fine before I upgraded my operating system. Help!

Photoshop cs2 requires Rosetta on snow leopard.
You can install rosetta from your 10.6 install dvd

  • How far can I upgrade OS from Snow Leopard before Adobe CS2 goes in the toilet?

I have OSX 10.6.8 but I am getting messages from websites that my version of Safari is too old. So I thinking of updating as far as I can without having to buy all new software. And I really don't want to go up in a cloud if I can help it.
I realize I may have to install more ram - my EMC 2118 iMac has only 1 GB of memory. Plus, that would make my iMac faster too, correct?
On the other hand, maybe you can recommend another browser that would work.
Thanks in advance. I really appreciate this help forum.

I believe you will find that CS2 won't run or won't run well past Snow Leopard.
You need 2 GBs of RAM above Snow Leopard along with a Core Duo processor. Adding memory will not make the computer run faster.
    Try Firefox.

  • Leopard: Office and CS2 Flawless

I loaded Leopard last night with an erase and install because my system never really seemed to run as fast as I expected. Especially, when the systems at work are faster and have slower CPU’s and 2 less gigs of RAM. But I have 2 HD’s and I moved all my files to the slave drive. Installed the OS and then loaded MS Office 04 and Adobe CS2. Went ahead an added all updates to both applications and they run smoothly. I am currently building a catalog in CS2 and it runs flawless. My system is quite faster, but I think that is attributed to never re-installing Tiger in the past for optimization. So for those who wonder, “YES” Office and CS2 run fine in Leopard. Leopard is solid, great job Apple.

What do you mean by "force quits"?  Force quit is when you force an application to quit.  Programs don't "force quit" on their own.  Do you mean the program crashes?  Any error message(s)?

  • CS2 run on Intel, Leopard?

I need to keep older versions of InDesign to match clients, but if I upgrade my equipment to an Intel machine running Leopard, will InDesign CS2 run OK on it?

Remember though that unless you use the Migration Assistant to move over to the new machine including existing applications, you have to install the applications in order of their age, that is CS2 first, then CS3, then CS4. As soon as the newer version is installed you won't be able to install the older ones.
You also need to manually open documents to keep them in the right version by dragging them to the right version-icon, or they will open in the newest version.
CS2 works quite OK in Leopard (10.5.6) but as said runs in Rosetta which makes it slower and it also takes up resources from other apps which might cause also other apps to run slower.
Printing from anything in Leopard can be problematic, depending on printer drivers and printer model and if the printer has drivers for Leopard or not.

  • Photoshop CS2 and mac upgrade to OS 10.6 ?

I just upgraded my imac to OS 10.6 and now my Photoshop CS2 tries to open but then closes down suddenly. My Illustrator works fine.

When you installed OSX 10.6 it doesn't install Rosetta by default.
Rosetta is necessary to run Power PC applications in 10.6 on Intel Macs
You need to use your OSX install disk and just install Rosetta
Then without opening PS, Click the PS CS2 application icon in the Finder (the application not the folder) use Get Info (command I) and make sure  "Open using Rosetta" is checked.
Snow Leopard OSX 10.6 is the last version of OSX that still has Rosetta and you won't be able to use any more OSX upgades.
You should either upgrade to CS6 or you will be stuck using Snow Leopard forever. CS2 is already out of the upgrade path.

  • S.O.S.!!! Photoshop CS2 crashes 5 sec after it is open...

I recently upgraded to OS 10.5 Leopard. I noticed that their have been problems with PSCS3 and Leopard, but not CS2, till now. When I open Photoshop it stays open for about 5 sec.(up until the point where the welcome screen is suppose to show) then quits. I then receive that "Unexpected Quit" message. What should I do? All I can think of is turning off the welcome screen feature, but to do that, it has to open. Is there a way to trash the "Welcome Screen" feature? Any other suggestions would be fine. Only alternative is to downgrade to Tiger again, which I DON'T want to do if I don't have to.
    thanx for your response.

I have the same issue, The one difference being that I am running Tiger. Another difference is that I also have PS CS3 installed. I need to use CS2 due to client specifications. (I am a small freelancer trying to make it in the large commercial field so I do what I need to). Have had CS3 installed for a while with no problems, but used CS2 for most everything, until recently. Now it quits after a few seconds regardless of what I do, Use it or not.
Really don't want to loose this client. It's a small account, but accounts for a bunch of my freelance work.
    Thanks,

Hello, I use MAC AIR OSX 10.6.8 and have Adobe CS2, that I was using 2 years ago on my older computer. I stopped using it because it would close down in the middle of work. Now I would like to reinstall it on the MacAir but I can not get it working. It tells Adobe doesnT support my System. But I can not update my old version or activate it. What can I do?

The mac you want to install photoshop cs2 on is running mac os x 10.6.8 Snow Leopard?
(photoshop cs2 won't run on intel macs with mac os x newer than snow leopard)
Did you ever have cs2 installed on this particular computer before?
If the problem is that you already installed cs2, but it won't activate, that's because adobe took the activation servers offline for some older adobe products such as cs2.
You'll need to use the non activation version of cs2 from here and the supplied serial number:
Activation server shut down for Creative Suite 2, Acrobat 7, and Macromedia products

  • Uninstall Leopard from new Mac Pro

Got a brand spankin new Mac Pro at work which was thrilling until it became obvious that nothing works with Leopard (which is what came on the Mac). Too many of our vital apps won't work with Leopard (read Adobe CS2) and the boss isn't prepared to update everything to be compatible with Leopard, plus it's not even possible to update some of them.
So what is the least painful way to get Tiger on this computer?
We don't own an external drive.

    Hello,
Unless you have a copy of Tiger for Intel, you cannot do it. The "off the shelf" version of tiger is for the PowerPC. If you can get ahold of a Mac Pro Tiger reinstall DVD set, then you could try to do an erase and install of tiger. I am not sure if you are going to see any issues or not with Tiger on the new hardware. I would guess not, but you never know.
Ebay might be a good place to look for a mac pro reinstall dvd.
Just pop in the dvd, press and hold "C" before the computer chimes and it should boot to the CD, after that it is as easy as apple.

  • Can I run Tiger and Snow leopard on a new macbook pro 15"

    Hi
I have a Macbook running Tiger, soon to be replaced (I hope) by a
15" Macbook Pro Sno Leopard. Can I partition the drive on the MBP to run
Tiger also, as I have Adobe Creative Suite 2 and can't afford to upgrade that too. And I really don't want to run to computers.
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Snow Leopard will run CS2 with some limitations.
    http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/start
Either find a Mac older than October 26, 2007 you can use until you can bring all your software to Snow Leopard compatibility from these sites*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/usedrefurbished.html
Or find an alternative application for the functions you need from the first link that is Snow Leopard compatible if you can use that.

  • Indesign CS2 system requirements

I'm working on iMac G5 OS X 10.5.4 leopard with InDesign CS2 ME. But the application keep on quitting during certain functions such as exporting.
After the reading of the application system requirements PDF, I've found that one of the requirements are- Mac OS X v.10.2.8 through 10.3.8. Does it the reason why the application quit on my terminal seems I'm on OS X 10.5.4?
    Please advise.
    Thank You

    Not supported under Leopard.

  • KPT Filters on Leopard (Mac 10.5)

I just upgraded to Leopard (Mac 10.5) and discovered that the Photoshop CS4 KPT filters I use (and depend upon for much of my creative work) have been disabled. Is there some version of KPT filters available that’s compatible with Leopard or Snow Leopard (MAC 10.6) when using Photoshop CS4? The KPT filters still work on Leopard with Photoshop CS2.

    schmideg wrote:

Yes and that is the LAST version of Photoshop those plug-ins will EVER run in I suspect...
Photoshop CS3 changed the Photoshop SDK that required a complete re-write of all plug-ins to work in the Mac version of Photoshop CS3. This was required to be able to run on MacIntel machines. Photoshop CS4 continues that rewrite requirement for all plug-ins...
Since the KPT plug-ins are no longer supported (to the best of my knowledge) you'll never be able to use them in newer versions of Photoshop. You might check with Corel software in the event they have taken the old KPT stuff and updated them (the odds are not very good).

  • 10.4.9 to 10.5.4 - should I update to 10.4.11 first?

I'm running great on 10.4.9 and just ordered 10.5.4 and just wondered if the upgrade would go smoother if I updated to 10.4.11 first.
If for some reason 10.5.4 doesn't run well, would it make more sense to do an archive and install or copy back my SuperDuper backup Tiger system and try the upgrade again?
I have checked my hard drive with Disk Utility and found no problems, and updated and upgraded all my software to be compatible with Leopard (except for CS2 - which I'm going to try and see how it works on the G5 - but I know it's not supported).

No. No need to and why bother?
If for some reason 10.5.4 doesn't run well, would it make more sense to do an archive and install or copy back my SuperDuper backup Tiger system and try the upgrade again?
With a clone you have unlimited options. If Tiger is and has been purring along, the default install should work fine. Both my MBPs were upgraded that way. I still have Tiger on my TM backup drives in a separate partition.
I have checked my hard drive with Disk Utility and found no problems, and updated and upgraded all my software to be compatible with Leopard (except for CS2 - which I'm going to try and see how it works on the G5 - but I know it's not supported).
Again, I think you have planned well - and if the default install does not work, you can either reinstall Tiger and do an Archive and Install, or you can do an Erase and Install, from scratch (no pun intended) and migrate from your clone.
If you keep the Tiger clone, you can use it to run CS2 and any other apps that are not Leopard compatible.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS2 with Leopard?

Has anyone got experiences with Photoshop CS2 and or InDesign 2.0 and Leopard?
I know, if problems occur there will be no help from Adobe, but how bad might the problems be?
    Any experiences or advices?

I just started running into a new problem while trying to resize fonts in Photoshop CS2. When manually scaling up or down outside of the given size list (6, 8, 9, 10, etc.), the number input field seems to get a little confused and disregards your request. When hitting Enter, it applies a space. Sometimes if I click off and then back onto the input field, and then type my number in it will work about 50% of the time.
Oh yeah, and Photoshop simply crashes from time to time. It doesn't recall having the particular file open that you were just working on, so you essentially never really worked on it. At this point I'm just going to assume this is acceptable program behavior to both Adobe and Apple.
