Leopard on regular HD / other apps on SSD / Good ??
Hello,
The shop where i've bought my new mac pro installed leopard on the standard Harddisk, i also have a SSD where i've installed all Adobe and 3d software... Photoshop for instance is not always that fast, sometimes even hangs a few seconds when opening a simple 500kb jpg image (saved on the SSD). I've read lots of stories about the super fast SSD but until now i am not impressed, could that be cause of that Leopard is installed on the standard harddisk? If so can i just install Leopard on the SSD without re-installing all other software?
Thanks for any advise.
New Mac Pro + CS5 and OWC SSD along with 3 x 8GB or 6 x 4GB should do very well.
SSDs are best place for OS and applications together; or for scratch (when you don't have enough RAM).
Some people even use a pair of SSDs in stripe volume.

Since loading Lion, I've experienced much more instability than Snow Leopard. In particular, Mail crashes with regularity, full-screen apps seem to run slower and show the beach ball more often for longer, etc. I love the features, but I'm disappointed with the performance. Any help coming from Apple? I've been sending them so many reports after crashes, that their file must be full!
Summoning max. courage, I did what you advised. Here is the result. What does this tell you? My Lion 7.2 (mid 2011 iMac) has several annoying glitches (which I have so far tolerated through gritted teeth) but none that have actually stopped me working.
BTW, I see several items involving CleanMyMac which I did not know I had. It is generally villified as a trouble-maker. Spotlight can't find an app. or a utility of that name. How can I get rid of what's there please? Just delete?

I found out after the install of LION, that it does not support Rosetta, which runs Quicken and the classic AOL software and a myriad of other apps.
Can I go back to Snow Leopard? Is there a way to retrieve my thousands of saved E mails, which are saved on my Mac?
I still see the filing cabinet with my screen name but cannot get them to open.
Please help! Lion may roar, but the fact it does not support apps like quicken means it purrs.I had the Apple store wiped out my hard drive and I restore my last hard drive downloard by first placing Snow leopard DVD in the DVD drive and holding "C" when turning on the machine then I follow the instructions. I am back on snow leopard and trying out two finance software to replace Quicken for mac 2007. I am trialing Quicken essentials and ibank. They are both compatable with LION. So when I am ready will download Lion again. Also, Micorsoft Office needs to be 2011 version for it to work on Lion

I have had this mac for years. It's one of the very first Macbook Pro models with Intel processor.
It originally came with OS X, and I have the install disk here. I upgraded to Snow Leopard when it came out.
Recently my disk failed and I had to Erase it and do a complete re-install. I assumed Garageband, and iMovie and a few other apps I used semi-regularly would be in the Optional Installs. I started from scratch, installed OS X and then installed Snow Leopard on top of it, installing the "Optional Installs" each time.
No copy of Garageband and these other useful apps appeared.
I can not download Garageband from the Apple site because each time I do it claims I need to have Garageband already installed. But since my complete reinstall did not install those, I'm stuck without these apps I once had.
How can I get these re-installed properly like they once were?
I just want my Macbook Pro back to where it was earlier this week before the disk failed.

Hi,
New Mac, so to avoid problems went for the new post-Snow Leopard Photoshop CS5. Oops.
Copy-Paste From Other Apps Into CS5
Pasting images/photos from Powerpoint 2004 to CS5, I experienced the exact problem posted slightly off topic by james norrington in the thread "CS5 does not let me copy & paste file names." It was not answered and is quoted here:
---"I am using CS5 Photoshop and Office 2004 on 10.6.3. I was using 10.4 until a few weeks ago and it worked and still works with other macs in the office using CS4. I can copy and paste from powerpoint but it cuts the pictures in half and does not know what the res. of the image is. Also when I go from photoshop to powerpoint the image res. is also not preserved."---
Besides that, I also found copy-paste from a digital camera photo.jpg from Preview to CS5 doesn't respect the resolution either. Directly opening the photo into PS CS5, fine.
From the earliest PS, always was able to copy any image to clipboard, have a new document dialog box come up pre-filled with correct original WxH pixels, original resolution, color mode, etc., and just paste into the new document - perfect fit (even the oddball PPT 576 ppi). Now a shift and cut-off. Don't have PPT 2008 to test pasting from there.
I have also found that a similar but less severe image cut off happens when copy-paste from PPT -> Preview, or -> TextEdit, or -> drag and drop picture clipping.
Opening Image File in CS5
Even an original 300 dpi tiff file wrongly went to 72 ppi etc. when opened directly into CS5. Converted the file to a jpeg in Preview - that jpeg file could be opened into CS5 correctly, reconverted the jpeg to TIFF in Preview, still opened OK (not counting loss of image quality). Still couldn't copy paste from either document into CS5 correctly. One difference I noticed in the converted files was that more information was available in the Preview file info. Maybe that made the difference in opening the file correctly.
I'd welcome any suggestions. Thanks.

----END---Thanks to Chris for the explanation of the dueling clipboards.
It's still frustrating, but since I still have a CS2 license from the dead G4 the current Mac replaced, I can try that (wonder if they can coexist), or maybe I could use an older Mac for this particular situation.
As for the .tif file, it was generated by a Mac OS 8.5 era image capture program that we are forced to use, and the analysis was that the app does not properly encode the TIFF tags to acceptable standards. Preview 5.0.2 just guessed right from the little information that was included - but it didn't work when tried with Preview 3.0.9 on an OS 10.4 Mac. So this was a unique situation. -

I do presentations regularly with my iPad 2 (32gb, iOS 8.1.3) connected to a projector via a converter and an SVGA cable. Has worked fine for a couple of years. It's for a class I teach at my church, and I'm frequently switching from Keynote slides to my Olive Tree Bible or out to the Internet via Safari to view verses or other topics under discussion, then back to Keynote to continue. Other than the briefest of lags for the display to sync, things worked fine. After a recent iOS update, a problem developed.
Now, when I switch from a running Keynote presentation to the on-screen Bible, (or just about any other app), and then try to switch back to Keynote, things go badly wrong. Keynote may crash out to a blank screen for a while, may break out of the presentation and go back to the edit screens, or may start the presentation over from the first slide. Experimenting at home has shown that the problem occurs even when I'm not connected to the projector. Things were working so well before the update, too!A Couple of suggestions ......
You could try backing up the iPad then transfer the Keynote presentations to your computer (which you really should do anyway), using iOS File Sharing with iTunes, Then delete the app. Restore the iPad to factory settings, restore the backup, sync the app back again (or download it again) and then see how it goes. Use iOS file sharing to move the presentations back to the iPad if they do not come back over with the restore.
Actually, If you sync your Keynote documents with iCloud, they should download again from the cloud after you reinstall the app and you should not need to restore the back or sync the files back from the computer. I use Pages and have deleted it several times. Every time I reinstalled it, my documents downloaded again from iCloud, but I don't take chances. All of my Pages files are stored on my Mac so that I can move them back to the iPad using file sharing if the cloud blows up on me. I do not and never will totally trust cloud storage.
Do you sync with iTunes? Do you use file sharing and store files on you computer? Do you sync your Keynote documents with iCloud? Your best course of action is dictated by how you store your documents, IMO anyway -
I want to buy MBA 11'' which model is good. i.e. i need speed. I am using Lenovo netbook s-10. Is very slow in opening web pages an also in operating other apps.
Put your first emphasis on memory. Don't even consider 2 GB.
Second, maximize your SSD size according to the ability of your wallet. Lastly is your processor.
For what you describe the MBA is plenty fast. -
IPhone 6 Motion Tracking and other Apps
Hi,
I really like that the iPhone 6 has the M8 chip that tracks steps all the time. I also use some other apps to track activity such as Runtastic and MyFitnessPal.
When I use Runtastic to track a run, I don't want the steps I take during that run to count in my regular step count. I have everything feed into MyFitnessPal and if I let the motion tracker add its steps it seems like it will duplicating parts with the running entry, giving me double credit whenever I run.
The question I have is there a way to pause the step tracking?

The keypad sensors are going haywire. Only Messages has this problem. The other apps with messaging like FB messenger are functioning well.
And its not just with typing; even with scrolling up or down, the sensors wont cooperate. Pfft.venicespent,
Boot into your Mavericks Recovery partition by hold down the command and R keys whilst booting. You'll see a screen that looks like this:
Click on the Disk Utility item to open Disk Utility. You should see your boot drive (usually named "Macintosh HD" unless you've changed it) in the column on the left of the screen. Select your boot partition and click on the "Verify" button. Let your Mac do it's thing - if you get green text telling you that everything seems to be OK, then your disk should not be damaged. If, however, you get red text telling you that the disk needs to be repaired, click on the "Repair" button. If the disk can be repaired, you should be good to go. If the disk cannot be repaired then the drive is damaged.
But before you do anything, make certain that you have backups!!!

If i download the new OS X Mountain Lion to my Macbook Pro that has Snow Leopard, will i lose my apps and downloads (such as: Microsoft word, powerpoint, excel, oovoo, skype) and will i lose all of my pictures/documents and information?
I should just change the OS and leave all your apps and data alone. That said, if any of your apps are old and use Rosetta (ppc apps), they won't run under Mountain Lion.
Make sure you take a good Time Machine or Clone backup before you convert.
You can check compatibility of your apps here:

Is there an IOS Password App that will Log me in to other Apps?
Hello,
This is the first time I have submitted a question so I hope I am doing it correctly. If I have sent this to the wrong Group, Please let me know.
I am looking for an apple IOS App that will store and open login/password info for my other Apple IOS Apps. Is there such a thing?
On my regular PC, I use Norton's Password Vault and it does a good job for me. So I loaded the iPhone App "Norton ID Safe". It looks good, can store and protect a lot on info. But it appears to only login to Browser sites. I cannot figure out how to have it store my logins for my other apps.
Any Ideas??
Thanks,
Robert FIt sounds like 1Password may do what you're looking for.

Chrome and some other apps scrolling jerky in Mountain Lion
I note from another site there are seven bugs needed fixing asap. I have most of them after upgrading.
Worst at the moment is the crap scrolling in Chrome and some other apps.
Also losing the pointer bery often
How soo do Apple respond and fix these things normally.
I think Lion and Mountain Lion are brilliant but I didn't think my new commitment to Apple would include these shoddy upgrades.Yep...

App wiped all other apps and data
Today I opened The Weather Channel app when my phone flickered and suddenly all of my other apps were gone along with the data. When I tried to do a restore, it shows the last back up as of 6/24/10 which is prior to getting my iphone 4. However, every time I sync, it says "creating a backup." Is there a secret place to locate the back up from Friday evening to try and recover my data? HELP!!!!!
Install the original installation CD and hold down the C key with the disk installed.
Proceed with the installation until you get to the menu bar. Select UTILITIES and from the drop down menu Select DICK UTILITY
In DISK UTILITY, select ERASE and erase the drive (use Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Proceed with the installation of the Snow Leopard OS.
When done, select Software update from the icon drop down menu on the menu bar and update to 10.6.8.
Then upgrade to Mt Lion.
ciao.
