Leopard Screensaver

I'm using PS CS 3 & OS 10.5.4. When I try to use screensaver in the "slide show" display option, the portrait orientation photos display horizontally. I checked the Apple Discussion groups first and was told to re-save everything making sure it was displaying the proper orientation. Supposedly this would correct the metadata file.
So I opened every portrait image in PS and re-saved it. No dice. Today I called Apple support and they said I would need to re-save in either Preview or iPhoto.
Instead of starting all over again, does anyone have any suggestions?

For ScreenSavers you need to save as JPEGs but your Monitor is almost certainly in landscape format. (A few monitors do allow you to re-orient them and mount them in Portrait format.)
If you want to use Portrait-format images as ScreenSavers you may find that you need to save each image as a landscape shape (1024 x 768 pixels RGB JPEGs) with your photograph centered on a colored or textured background.
(I have not tried using portrait-oriented images as screen-savers so this is just a guess and you will have to experiment to see what works.)
The JPEGs that I have used as screen-savers have always been created in Photoshop and never in either Preview or iPhoto.

  • Here's my wish list for a versatile screensaver

My photos have come to life because they now show as a screensaver using the built-in Leopard screensaver. I'd love to do the same for my digital videos. Here's my wish list:
    1) shows photos AND video clips, mixed randomly together
    2) you specify how long the randomly selected video clips are (I'd choose about 15 sec)
    3) you specify multiple directories where the photos and videos live (I don't want to arrange my directories for the screensaver; I want the screensaver to go to my specified directories; I also don't want to duplicate files just for the screensaver.)
    4) while I'm at it, the screensaver should work with a large variety of mainstream photo and video formats, including the latest high-definition video.
Anyone know anything like this? I'd pay pretty good cash for it. Thanks!

  • Screensaver background frozen onscreen when awaking monitor

Hi, I have noticed this issue recently and it has occurred a couple of times. Basically I have the monitor set to turn off after 15 minutes. This issue is occurring on my Mac Pro.
My Mac is always on, just the monitor turns off. I have also set one of Snow Leopard screensaver to start after 5 minutes of no use. Recently I noticed that when my monitor is off and I move the mouse to turn it on, a static background from the screensaver appears on screen, no desktop, no dock or anything.
After about 20 seconds, the screen disappears and my desktop is back in view and I can use my Mac. This doesn't occur all the time. I have repaired permissions and also verified the disk which appeared to be ok.
I have recently updated to Safari 5 but that's the only change that I've made to the computer. I was getting low on free space on my 650GB Drive (30GB) so I deleted stuff and now it's at 80 gbs. Anyone else have this issue? what could be causing this?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've been having the same problem on my iMac for a while, including far before Safari 5. The screen saver will "freeze" leaving a static image on the screen. I have the time displayed, so I can tell when it happens because the time doesn't update. For example it just happened that the time said 5:23 and it's 5:30. Moving the mouse and pressing a key on the keyboard doesn't work. However I have found that if I connect with screen sharing from another Mac it wakes it up immediately.

  • Old screensaver bug still present in Snow Leopard

This bug has driven me mad in the past (since Tiger!) and I am still getting it on Snow Leopard.
    Scenario:
    1. Invoke screensaver
    2. Wake computer
    3. Get password prompt for a split second - (it disappears, like a focus issue).
    4. left with a blank screen and cursor. No means of logging in.
    5. try to re-invoke screensaver by either putting to sleep via power button or closing lid.
    6. Awaken computer - same thing happens.
This doesn't happen 100% of the time but it does require a hard reboot to get out of.
This is one of those bugs that i've managed to live with for a few years but i'm starting to go mad when its still present in the Snowleopard! (pls excuse my venting!)
Obviously the easy issue is to disable the screensaver password - but you'd think this would be fixed by now - Or am I just being stupid and missing something obvious?
    Cheers,
    Steve </vent>

I am experiencing both your size issue and a different bug concurrently.
I also get the 'white' image bug if scrolling through images and then quickly backtracking to a previous one. Then that image will remain white until I close quicklook and reopen it on a different file. Reopening on the same file still results in a white image.  Happened under 10.9 and is happening to me under 10.9.2 on a Macbook Pro, 2010 iMac and non-apple branded um, mac. Size and file type don't matter.
I get a similar log entries once in a while but the backtracking white image thing doesn't cause quicklookd to spam any console info that is searchable in the console.
Removing quicklook plugins, clearing it's cache and whatnot didn't do anything.
    *EDIT*
    http://support.cocoatech.com/discussions/announcements/6-quicklook-issues-pf-652
Apparently my 'snap back' issue is was caused by the version of Path Finder 6 I was running on those machines.
It would seem that there are a number of other issues with the 10.9 quicklook API. I guess I'm going to wait and hope it gets fixed.

  • Can Mavericks run a screensaver from Snow Leopard?

    Hi all,
This morning I was running on Snow Leopard (10.6.8), and today I downloaded and installed Mavericks (10.9.4).
The screensaver options are a bit different, and I don't like them as much as the Snow Leopard ones. I was using a screensaver that made a montage of the pictures saved in iPhoto, where it would start with an image, then zoom out, revealing that image to be one of many that each acted as pixels in a larger image, and so on.
I would like to know if it is possible to download and add this screensaver (or one of the others) from 10.6.8 and run it as my screensaver now that I have Mavericks.
If it helps, I currently have iPhoto '09, version 8.1.2 (I don't know if this changed when I upgraded to Mavericks or not).
    Thanks for your help,
    ben-hof

Launch the Mac app store on the computer you want to update.
To use your Apple ID at the Mac App Store
Choose Store > Sign In from the App Store menu.
Enter your Apple ID and password, then click Sign In.
    Then redownload Lion.

  • How to update screensaver that no longer works with Leopard or Snow Leopard

Hello. I have a favorite screen saver that would no longer work when I installed Leopard...and it also does not work with Snow Leopard either.
Can anyone tell me if I might be able to fix it and make it Snow Leopard compatible? Could I possibly open it up in Xcode or some other program, and make the appropriate changes?
I also have several iTunes plugins that quit working when Leopard was installed...and I'd like to do the same for them.
    Thanks!

check with the vendor of that screensaver to see if there is a SL compatible version.

only if it's an open source screensaver with source code included. impossible otherwise.

  • AppleTV screensaver in Leopard?

The AppleTV has a great (Core Animation) screensaver which has photos floating in a layered, 3D way, spinning and moving vertically.
Is this available under Leopard or anyone know where I can get it for my macbook? Thanks!

I have the same problem with two new Macs (iMac 24 Alum and MacMini Core2). Interestingly, it works if the ScreenSaver is in "Test" mode. But once the Screen Saver is activiated "for real" the Apple Remote gives me the same problem you have. I predict/hope that this will be resolved in an update soon.

  • IPhoto screensaver missing after upgrade to Snow Leopard

I have 3 Macs, all upgraded to Snow Leopard at the same time last year. For some reason one of them no longer has the iPhoto screensaver available from System Preferences. It's also not available as a choice for desktop picture. All 3 computers were upgraded from Leopard, all 3 used an album from iPhoto for screensaver and desktop background, but on one of the computers the iPhoto choice is no longer available in System Preferences for either screen saver or desktop background.
I'm currently using simply a folder of pictures for screen saver, but that means I've duplicated the images as files outside of iPhoto and an album in iPhoto. It's been this way for months, but I want to clean up the disk space and get rid of the external folder of pictures and get back to using the iPhoto album.
Suggestions as to what to do to restore the iPhoto choice in System Prefs? I'm running iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2 and SL 10.6.3.
    Thanks

Exactly what's missing? Is there an option to select an iPhoto Album in the SystemPreferences and it can't find the Library? Or simply no option in SystemPreferences?
    Regards

  • ITunes Artwork screensaver w/Snow Leopard

Ever since I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard on my machine, there is a problem with using the iTunes Artwork screensaver that is one of Apple's provided options. When the screensaver comes on, the screen goes black for about 2 minutes, during which time I can't do anything with the computer (e.g., release screensaver, switch to an application, etc.), and then finally the screensaver starts properly and everything works fine (I can go back to normal use by moving mouse). The one thing that does function during that "blackout" period is the Exposé functions -- clearing to desktop, moving windows to show all.
Any idea what's going on or how to remedy? Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion. I already had "put hd to sleep" unchecked and "put computer to sleep" at never, but I tried unchecking the reduce brightness box, and that didn't change the problem.

  • Can't use iPhoto Album as Screensaver in Snow Leopard with iLife '11?

I just upgraded my iMac to Snow Leopard (10.6.3) so I could install iLife '11.
After installing both, I noticed my screen saver wasn't using the iPhoto album I had originally selected before the upgrade.
When going to System Preferences > Destop & Screen Saver > Screen Saver the options are:
    Apple
         Arabesque
         Computer Name
         Flurry
         iTunes Artwork
         RSS Visualizer
         Shell
         Spectrum
         Word of the Day
    Pictures
         Shuffle
         Abstract
         Beach
         Cosmos
         Forest
         Nature Patterns
         Paper Shadow
There used to be an option for iPhoto albums, or am I just not seeing something?
    Thanks,

  • Screensaver named Random not compatible with Snow Leopard

    Hello
When I run my iMac under 10.6.1, it defaults to a tool which lup among intalled screensavers.
So, from time to time it try to display a screensaver entitled Random.
When it did, it displays a black screen and a white sentence: the screensaver named "Random" is not compatible with the operating system, contact the developer.
    Fine, it's an Apple product
I moved it on the desktop so I was able to pack it in a zip archive (one never knows), trashed the true file emptied the trash and rebooted.
I was sure that I would be free of the message.
I was wrong, the message continue to appear.
How may I really get rid of this beast ?
Now, I assume that the app is using a list of items.
Where is this list to get rid of it?
There is no "Random" available in the ScreenSaver PrefPane.
    Thanks in advance.
Yvan KOENIG (VALLAURIS, France) vendredi 2 octobre 2009 21:54:48

    Thanks,
it just changed the error message.
Now it no longer display "Random" but "Aléatoire".
    I found a workaround:
    I selected "Mélange",
and disabled Plages which I dislike.
Now I no longer get the black screen
One more time I'm bored because I don't know the true explanation

  • Snow Leopard Freeze on Screensaver with "Alias" jpg-pictures?

    Hi all
I have now updated my 10.5 to 10.6 installation.
My Setup for Screensaver on 10.5 was:
    - Folder in Photo-Folder “Screensaver”
    - in this Folder I have a few “Alias” (Links) to Fotos in the other Photo-Folders
    - Setup of Screensaver => Added this Folder and activated
    With 10.5 this works perfectly.
Now with 10.6 my Mac freez completely. Only with Hard-Reset/Restart helps ...
Also now when I go to the Screensaver-Setup the Mac freez ...
=> when I start setup of Screensaver with Folder-jpg-Alias => Mac freez
=> when the screensaver start => Mac freez
Only one time I was very fast and I have change the setup in the Screensaver to a Mac-standard Screensaver “Beach”. With this work the Screensaver.
After that I have tested with a Folder with normal jpg-pictures (No Alias) => Works.
It is possible, that the new 10.6 Screensaver doesn’t work with JPG-Alias?
    Thanks

Have exactly the same problem with the new OS.
Have a directory of image alias that I want to appear within the screen saver. None of the aliases are recognised, and when you try to delete the directory from the screen saver followed by clicking '+' to add it back again system preferences crashes. Relaunch, then I can add directory, but result is the same. i.e. I assume there is no caching etc of any relevance.
The new os x was supposed to be a refinement fixing bugs, finding that my 5 years old printer is no longer supported and now this is a great disappointment.

  • Screensaver won't start snow leopard 10.6.7

This is a minor, but irritating issue.
For the first time I have ever had this, the screensaver will not start based on elapsed time. I can only trigger if if I use the 'Test' button or a hot corner. I wonder if something has happened in a recent update that effects this. I've trashed all my non-standard screensavers and run Onyx (inc repair permissions) but still no screensaver after my 3 minute time setting.
I keep forgetting and I am concerned that I am not going my iMac screen any good (and they're kinda a pain to change if it gets busted I'm guessing!)
Seems to be lots of questions like this online, but I can't seem to find a fix.
    Any advice welcome!

  • Worthy Album Artwork Screensaver for Leopard?

Hi, I recently upgraded my macbook to leopard and was unhappy to see that the artwork tower used in a tech demo for Leopard a while ago wasn't included in the final build.
Instead apple inserted a lackluster 2D artwork flipping screen saver that many (including me) see in pink unless we reduce the amount of rows in it. Come on apple! release the itunes tower and show leopards capabilities! Anyone else agree?
If its also so simple to write, why hasn't someone smacked it together in core animation?

Yes, I too was disappointed to see this screen saver was not included in the final product.
