Libclntsh.so problems

Hi,
I'm having problems with the libclntsh library. It has been working, but in the process of trying to get InterMedia started up, I seem to have broken something. Invoking SQL*Plus, I get the follow message:
sqlplus: error in loading shared libraries: /home/oracle/dbms/lib/libclntsh.so.8.0: undefined symbol: nnflboot
I've tried relinking it with $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh, but the error remains.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
DaveL

I think this is related to your PATH or LD_LIBRARY_PATH - check to see where the offending lib is located and be sure that it's in the PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH definitions.

  • Problems with libclntsh.so.10.1 and PHP/Apache HTTPD

    Hello,
    I've been wrestling with the install of Instant Client/OCI8 with PHP 5.0.4 and Apache HTTPD 2.0.52 on RHEL4 ES. Most recently I've followed the instructions detailed here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/notes/technote_php_instant.html
    Apache is installed from the RHN rpm.
    PHP was successfully compiled with the following parameters:
    ./configure with-mysql with-ssl with-ldap with-apxs2 with-dom with-oci8-instant-client=/usr/local/oracle/instantclient_10_2 --enable-sigchild
    I've also attempted to get OCI8 working using the full Administration Client from CD. In either case, I can compile/install PHP just fine. I've indexed the Instant Client directory with ldconfig, and the user that runs HTTPD has read/execute permissions on libclntsh.so.10.1 and on all the directories above it. Nonetheless, when I start Apache, I invariably run into the following error:
    # /etc/init.d/httpd start
    Starting httpd: Syntax error on line 190 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf:
    Cannot load /usr/lib/httpd/modules/libphp5.so into server: libclntsh.so.10.1: failed to map segment from shared object: Permission denied [FAILED]
    Thanks in advance for any insight,
    Patrick

    I have a similar problem:

    Everything is visible to all users the LD Library path is set even in the httpd.conf file.
    Clear PHP works from within the command line, now I want to get it working via Apache2.
    If anybody has a clue I would be most obliged.
    Also disabling SELinux did not do the trick.

  • Oci8lib.so & libclntsh.so.10.1 problem (Phusion Passenger + Rails + Oracle)

    Here's the error message :
    <hr />
    Oracle/OCI libraries could not be loaded: libclntsh.so.10.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory - /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/x86_64-linux/oci8lib.so
    <hr />
    When deploying the Rails app from mongrel, the app runs fine. But the app can't seem to connect to the oracle db when it is deployed via Phusion Passenger because it can't load the libclntsh.so.10.1 library. Googling for that error message brought us to a number of solutions and most of them has something to do with setting and exporting the $LD_LIBRARY_PATH from... well almost anywhere it can be set/exported to/from, which includes : a ruby wrapper, somewhere in environment.rb, inside the httpd.conf but none of them seems to fix the problem. We're kinda stumped here because we are can't really identify what's causing this problem.

    These two articles talk about deployment of Phusion Passenger + Rails + Oracle:
    http://blog.phusion.nl/2008/12/16/passing-environment-variables-to-ruby-from-phusion-passenger/
    http://blog.rayapps.com/2008/05/21/using-mod_rails-with-rails-applications-on-oracle/
    Make sure the path to Oracle Instant Client or Oracle Full Client libraries is added to LD_LIBRARY_PATH and the user running Apache has right access to it.

  • Problem with libclntsh.so on Tru64

    Hello,
    We are developping a C application using OCI 7.3 Data access fonctions on Unix servers.
    One of our clients is using an Alphaserver with Tru64 5.1 and an Oracle 8.1.7 database. Our application used to work correctly on this server. But recently, this client installed a patch kit (t64v51b19as0005-20020411) from Compaq (who asked for it for some supports reasons), and since that our application doesn't work at all.
    When we launch the application, the following message immediatly occurs:
    Illegal instruction(coredump)
    After some deeper tests, it appeared the problem is coming from the library libclntsh.so which seems to be non-compatible with the new kernel (the problem occurs only when the library is linked with the application). We tried to regerate this library with gennfgt and genclntsh, but the problem remains the same. Does anyone already met this problem ? And then, what is the solution, how can we make the libclntsh.so compatible with the new kernel ?
    Thank you for any help

    If you're talking about the "so called" calendar Lov implemented using forms-objects (blocks etc.), you will have the problem with required items, for the the calendar will issue a GO_BLOCK which causes validation to happen, which will fail on the require item.
    Solution?
    If you're on 10G, theres also an example with a java-bean.
    If on 6i, you could create a standalone form implementing the calendar-lov-functionality and do a call_form instead of a GO_BLOCK.

  • Problems with libclntsh.so.9.0 after upgrade to 9.2.0.6

    Hi,
    I upgraded our database (Solaris64) with the folloing patch:
    p3948480_9206_SOLARIS64.zip
    The upgrade itself worked fine without error-messages.
    But if I try to run sqlplus now I receive the following error:
    ld.so.1: sqlplus: fatal: libclntsh.so.9.0: open failed: No such file or directory
    Killed
    Can anyone help me with that?
    Thanks!

    Is library path defined correctly?
    Is there a library by that name in ORACLE_HOME/lib ?
    If you are somehow missing that file, there should be a genclntsh script that you could try using.

  • Installation problem Oracle 9i on SuSE Linux 7.2 s390

    Hi all
    I've got a problem after having installed Oracle9i on a S390 box with SuSE linux 7.2. When I launch sqlplus, I've got the following message :
    sqlplus: error while loading shared libraries: libclntsh.so.9.0: cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory
    It appears the shared library libclntsh.so.9.0 was not included in the tarball I've downloaded from the Oracle site.
    Any idea ?
    Thanks
    Frangois Basquin

    Forget my question : I've found the answer in the document ID 158104.1. Even if my problem was not exactly the one mentioned (I hadn't any problem during compile time), the cure was good.

  • Unable load  library '/usr/lib64/php/modules/oci8.so' - libclntsh.so.11.1

    Dear all,
    I have a problem with OCI8 installation and I would appreciate if you could kindly guide me how to solve this issue.
    I started reading the following articles in order to learn how to install the OCI8 package allowing to connect from PHP to oracle
    http://www.php.net/manual/en/oci8.installation.php
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/technote-php-instant-084410.html
    Here is my environment description
    OS: Fedora Core 17 (X86_64)
    Oracle version: Oracle Enterprise Edition 11gR2 (11.2.0.1.0) X86_64
    PHP Version: 5.4.13
    Apache version: 2.2.23Just a detail: almost every documentation starts by explaining the instant client installation. However, on the same physical machine, before even installing Apache and PHP. Oracle server had been completely installed, that is, both server and client (SQL*Plus, SQL*Loader, . . .). As a result, I omitted this step in the documentation and I continued by installation direcly OCI8 and apparently everything was compiled successfully (no error message).
    Problem: OCI8 doesn't show up in phpinfo()
    So it seems that there is a problem. I'm going to write down exactly how I proceeded and I would appreciate if you could kindly take a look at these steps and tell whether I made mistake(s)
    I started by running as ROOT. As I said the oracle server was already installed on the machine and so all the required environment variables such as LD_LIBRARY_PATH, ORACLE_SID, . . . were already defined in ~/.bash_profile
    And if you look at the below output, you can see that for example ORACLE_HOME was detected automatically during the installation (*checking Oracle ORACLE_HOME install directory... /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1*)
    # pecl install oci8This gave me the following output

    Try disabling SELinux. On Oracle Linux you would edit /etc/selinux/config, set SELINUX to DISABLED, and reboot. Also see the setenforce command.Yes !!!!!!!!
    Thanks man it worked !! It was SELinux which was blocking the library load. Now I have OCI8 entry in phpinfo(). At the same time as we saw before the PHP in command line could detect OCI8, maybe this means that SELinux doesn't have the same impact in CLI as in GUI. Conclusion, you were totally correct about defining the environment variables in /etc/syscnfig/httpd. The variables were actually defined (with a slight difference in syntax that I will show below), yet SELinux prevented PHP from loading the oracle libraray.
    I also wrote a test SQL script (SELECT employee_id FROM employees WHERE department_id = 100) and the result was printed on the screen perfectly.
    So for those who may have encountered the same problem with the same environment parameters I'm going to give a summary of how I proceeded in the case where it might be helpful for others.
    My environment
    OS: Linux Fedora Core 17 (X86_64)
    Oracle version: Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit
    Apache version (httpd): Apache 2.0
    PHP version: 5.4.13
    Before the installation
    Before the installation I disabled SELinux. At the time of writing I'm not an expert of SELinux so I don't know any rule modification in order to modify SELinux policy accordingly allowing to OCI8 module to load oracle libraries. As a result I finally disabled completely the SELinux on my system which may have serious security impacts! This can be done in the following way (being as root)
    # vim  /etc/selinux/configThe file content is something similar to the following
    # This file controls the state of SELinux on the system.
    # SELINUX= can take one of these three values:
    #     enforcing - SELinux security policy is enforced.
    #     permissive - SELinux prints warnings instead of enforcing.
    #     disabled - No SELinux policy is loaded.
    SELINUX=enforcing
    # SELINUXTYPE= can take one of these two values:
    #     targeted - Targeted processes are protected,
    #     minimum - Modification of targeted policy. Only selected processes are protected.
    #     mls - Multi Level Security protection.
    SELINUXTYPE=targeted So what I did was that I put a comment at the beginning of the line SELINUX=enforcing and instead I added a new line right after that line which was SELINUX=disabled.
    Finally I rebooted the system.
    Installation:
    - Make sure that all oracle environment variables are defined in ~/.bash_profile of the user who installs OCI8. Otherwise you will have to enter manually the path to $ORACLE_HOME. I tested both ways and each method works pretty well. Yet I find the first one more elegant because it detects automatically everything
    - In my case, PHP, Apache and Oracle server were all on the same physical machine, therefore I didn't need to install the Oracle Instant client*. All the required oracle libraries for OCI8 were therefore already available.
    - being as ROOT, I run the following (I don't know whether this was mandatory but I prefered to stop httpd before installing OCI8)
    # pecl install oci8(On my machine pecl was already there, if not you can install it by using yum)
    - Once installation is over, at the end of the installation report in the terminal you will get something like this
    >
    Build process completed successfully
    Installing '/usr/lib64/php/modules/oci8.so'
    install ok: channel://pecl.php.net/oci8-1.4.9
    configuration option "php_ini" is not set to php.ini location
    You should add "extension=oci8.so" to php.ini
    >
    The two bold lines above shows what you have to put in your php.ini file (on my computer this file is in */etc/php.ini* )
    So I updated the php.ini file in the following way:
    ; Dynamic Extensions ;
    ; If you wish to have an extension loaded automatically, use the following
    ; syntax:
    ;   extension=modulename.extension
    extension=oci8.so
    ; Paths and Directories ;
    ; UNIX: "/path1:/path2"
    extension_dir="/usr/lib64/php/modules"Then you have to define the required oracle environment variables for Apache. According to what I read in http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/php/underground-php-oracle-manual-098250.html and in several forums while I was googling for this problem and also based on my own tests, it seems to me that depending on which Apache version you're using, the syntax for declaring the environment variables in */etc/sysconfig/httpd* is not the same.
    Here is what I added at the end of the file /etc/sysconfig/httpd
    ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle
    ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/lib:/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/network/lib
    TNS_ADMIN=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/network/admin
    NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252
    ORACLE_SID=db01I tried to use the export keyword before the variable names but it didn't work for me, yet I saw in other forums that there were people who apparently had used that syntax successfully. So again it is a matter of personal observation. For me using Apache 2.0, only the above syntax works. Also if I use $ in order to expand the environment variables it doesn't work
    so for example instead of writing
    ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:$ORACLE_HOME/network/libI had to write explicitly the expanded values myself, that is,
    ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/lib:/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/network/libOnce this is done, restart httpd
    # service httpd startIf everything went well, normally you will see the OCI8 entry if you run phpinfo() in a test PHP script.
    Hope this may help others,
    Once again, thanks a lot to cj for his time and his valuable help for solving my problem.

    Dariyoosh

  • Problems and solutions for 9i DB R2 install on Redhat Linux AS 2.1

    Installing 9iDB R2 9.2.0.1.0 on Redhat Linux Advanced Server 2.1 (aka Redhat Enterprise Linux (AS))
    and applying patchset 2 (9.2.0.3.0)
    This is a certified platform but I hit many problems getting the install to work. Here are the problems I hit and how I solved them.
    Note: This is not intended to be a install for dummies but just an account of all my problems and how I overcame them. I spent 10 hours on this certified install (mostly looking for solutions to the problems I was having)
    I had a Intel Pentium 3 with 512 Meg RAM. (test machine)
    1. Install Redhat Linux
    2. Install Sun JDK 1.3.1 (this is not actually required for this install. I installed it as I was planning to install 9iAS after this)
    3. Install binutils-2.11.90.0.8-13 (also not required. I installed it for 9iAS)
    All other components were ok on my Redhat Linux install (i.e. kernel version, glibc)
    4. Create oracle user with dba group
    5. Create oracle home and oracle base directories. Ensure these are owned by oracle with rwx
    6. Set kernel parameters and make sure that they are initialized every startup:
    I managed to locate this script in the Redhat document called
    "Deploying Oracle9iTM on Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS"
    create a file called oracle.sh in /etc and give it execute permissions
    oracle.sh
    #!/bin/bash
    # configures kernel and system parameters for Oracle9i R2
    # File handles
    echo 65536 > /proc/sys/fs/file-max
    ulimit -n 65536
    # Shared memory
    # The default SHMMAX value is too low and likely to cause a failure during
    # database creation. SHMMAX should be equal to half of your system's physical
    # RAM.
    # The default is for 512 MB of RAM. Replace the default value as appropriate
    # for the amount of memory in your system, i.e.,
    # 512 MB : 268435456

    # 2 GB : 1073741824
    # 4 GB : 2147483648
    echo 268435456 > /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax
    # It is generally safe to leave these next two values as they are
    echo 4096 > /proc/sys/kernel/shmmni
    echo 2097152 > /proc/sys/kernel/shmall

    7. create a generic oracle environment setup script for all users to run
    create the file /etc/profile.d/oracleenv.sh
    be sure to change the variables to your environment (ORACLE_BASE, ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID)

    export ORACLE_BASE ORACLE_HOME ORA_NLS33 ORACLE_SID LD_LIBRARY_PATH PATH
    ----EOF---------
    chmod 755 /etc/profile.d/oraclenv.sh
    This file will run when a user logs in.
    8. Install oracle DB
    This took me quite a few attempts.
    The first Install I did I received the error jre was not found. This issue seemed to be relating to the fact I was not installing on a Pentium 4. Oracle was looking for the jre in oracle.swd.jre/bin/i686 (and .../lib/i686) when some of the files were placed in i386 and java was looking in i386. This created a real mess. I had encountered a similar problem on a previous install on a different platform. I found articles of people that tried to just link the directories with symbolic links but this never worked. I tried my own version but also failed.
    The solution that worked for me was to de-install, remove all the oracle directories created by the install (this part I had always done) AND also delete the file /etc/oraInstl.loc. This makes the Installer truly believe this is the first time Oracle has been installed on this box. My jre problem disappeared after that. (I don't know why it just didn't work in the first place...)
    The next error I received was an ORA-03113 when creating the database (in the dbca). (It was actually at this point that I found the document from redhat as mentioned in my set 6 above) I also noticed that when running the install of the database, the default was for Oracle's SGA to use 70% of the available memory on my machine (I have 512M so that's 360M). Oracle instructed me to set shmmax to around 240M. This may be why the database creation failed as I thought the shmmax parameter needed to be larger that SGA. Anyway, I reduce the SGA to 50% and it worked.
    This error may also have been caused by the kernel parameters not being set properly after a reboot so if you implementing stop 6 above. You may never get this problem, hopefully.
    8. Install the universal Installer 2.2.0.18.0 (a prerequisite for installing the patchset 2)
    You will need this to install the patchset 2. You can get it from metalink by searching for the bug number in the patch area. Search for bug/patch number 2878462 in patches. (37Meg for linux intel)
    (Did you know that when oracle refer to a bug number, you should treat this as a patch number? General the bugs are not available for public viewing but oracle create a patch of the same number as a placeholder. So don't search for the bug in the site search or by doc id, go straight to the "patches" area and enter the bug number as a patch number, you'll have more success. - I only found that out today after struggling with metalink for the last 4 years)
    9. Install the patchset 2
    I downloaded patchset 2 (which will bring my DB version to 9.2.0.3.0) (220Meg). There is a special symbolic link command you'll need so make sure you remember to do this.
    i.e.
    $ cd $ORACLE_BASE/oui/bin/link
    $ ln -s libclntsh.so.9.0 libclntsh.so
    10. Migrate your database
    I could not get this to work. The docs says I need at least 150M shared_pool_size and 150M Java_pool_size before running the startup migrate. As I only have 512Meg RAM (and shmmax set to 230M) I did hold much hope that this would work. I started my DB without the migrate option just to see if it would actually open with 300M in my pools. It did, so I shut it down and restarted with the migrate option. After 5 minutes of heavy processing (I still have an empty database) my server appeared to hang. I decided to restart the machine and just re-create my DB with the new patchset already applied. I delete my $ORACLE_BASE/oradata/<sid> directory and remove the entry from /etc/oratab and re-created my DB. This worked fine :)
    I hope this document helps you for your install. Please drop me line if it does help and I'll endevour to write more documents like this one.
    Please drop me a quick line at [email protected] even just to say "thanks".
    I will include a few keywords here to help the searches find this document. (mainly the keywords I searched on and failed to find a doc like this one)
    ORA-03113 ORA-3113 03113 3113 jre was not found jre not found i686 i386 i586 9iDB R2 9.2.0.1.0 9.2.0.3.0 Redhat Advanced Server 2.1 AS Enterprise Linux (AS) RH install error installation errors oui dbca problem issue
    Good luck,
    Tim Daniell.

    The trick that worked for me was on a 2nd attempt. I installed once, let it fail with "jre was not found", de-install through the installer, delete all directories and files under $ORACLE_BASE (including $ORACLE_HOME), and also delete /etc/oraInst.loc.
    I don't know why it fixes itself with this. Oracle say this is an unresolved bug 2726268 that lies in the installer. This is still unresolved by Oracle (as at 02-June-03) therefore it is not a published bug/patch. If this doesn't work, I suggest you open an iTAR and see if Oracle has any more suggestions for you.
    Cheers,
    Tim.

  • Oracle 8.1.6(bundled CD) install problem (ld failed)

    Hello...
    I tried to install oracle 8.1.6 into server. But I failed 3 more times.
    I don't know why. Please help me...
    According to the Oracle's install guide, I
    1) Added semaphore and shared memory info. to /etc/system
    and
    2) Install Intel Solaris 8 recommended patches.
    3) Install Forte C/C++ compiler. ( I used gcc for install. After failure,
    I cahanged compiler from gcc to Forete).
    I have no problem for mounting CD-ROM. But
    while copying and linking Oracle files, OUI gave me error messages such as " ld failed ..." .
    So I tried do manually such like this, "# make -f ins_plsq.mk install" . But the result was the same.
    Do you have any idea for this error?
    Thsnks.

  • Oracle 9i install problem on Redhat 7.1

    export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 Hi
    I installed 9i to a SuSe 8.0 with the suggested environment variable turned on and I still had the same problem. As the Installer complained I manually linked the modules, for example, by running
    make -f ./ins_ldap.mk odipinstall
    and I had the same error with the message:
    /usr/i486-suse-linux/bin/ld: cannot find -lclntsh
    collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
    make: *** [odisrv] Error 1
    It seems that a library missing (libclntsh.a ?)
    Can anyone help?
