Library filter keyword search odd results for containing keywords

I have a keyword tree Family>Smith>Peter.  I used the library filter keyword containing "family". This produced a large list of images and in the keyword tag box I saw the word "Family" with an asterix. I deleted the family keyword from the list and save the metadata.  i was epxecting my filter to show no photos but it still shows the same number.  It would seem that althoguh no photo has the keyword "family" on it they still show up in the filter because they contain "peter" and this is a child of "family".
Is this normal behavior as extremely irritating as trying to rationalise al lthe parent keywords that have bene accidentally exported.  If I only want photos where family is a keyword is there anyway I can do that?
Thanks Mike

The problem is I lable close family by name, but large family groups as "family".  If I just want photos with large family groups I should be able to search by keyword "family" and only get images that have that as a tag.  However I get these plus any photo that has any keyword that is beneath "family" in the hierachy.  I have turned of the export function so an image with just "peter" does not show "family" under the "will export" keywords.
It seems the default search is by keyword and everything below it. Is there some setting that it will only return images that just contain the actual keyword asked for?
Mike

  • Library Filter keyword sort

How do you sort (assending/decending) keywords in Library Filter Default columns?  Lightroom 5.2.  Mine begin with Z; I have seen others that begin with A.

Replace the Keyword column column in the Library Filter Bar Metadata browser with the Date column, click the upper-right corner of the column, and then select Sort: Ascending:
Now change the Date column back to the Keyword column, and it should be sorted in ascending order.
Appears to be a bug or design misfeature that the sort options aren't available in the Keyword column and that the Date options change the ordering of the Keyword column.

You might want to check the Manage User Properties area of the User Profile Service in Central Admin.
Any properties you query on should be marked "Indexed" or "Use in Scopes".  You can also check that you are using the correct internal name for these properties.

  • How to use path names for library filter?

    Hi all,
I have been looking for a way to use the library filter functionality to show only images in a particular folder (or subfolder thereof). From the help pages [http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Lightroom/3.0/Using/WSAB7B303E-081D-4617-BF47-B4B8D3D49CC3.htm l] I found that the image path is included when you filter using 'any searchable field'.
However, I do not seem to be able to use a full path name, just the individual directory names. To give an example, I can locate files in c:\data\photos using 'contains all: c data photos', but this will also select images in 'c:\data\someotherproject\photos'. I have tried all combinations of slashes and backslashes, but have found no solution to this problem. Does anyone know what the internal representation for the path name is, and if it's possible to search for it?
Just to pre-empt the obvious answer: I know that you can simply click on a folder to show its contents. However, using the filter bar would be a more permanent selection of a working directory, which remains when you click on a collection, for example.
    Thanks.
    Simon

Sorry, I could have been clearer.
What I'm trying to achieve is the following. My computer contains photos by myself, my wife and others, organised in three main folders. Having them in separate catalogs isn't convenient, because we often have photos of the same event (outings, holidays). However, most of the time I only want to work on my photos, and my wife wants to work on hers. A directory filter would be a good and fool-proof way of doing things. I am currently using a special keyword to do this, but I must remember to apply the correct keyword when importing.
Adding a folder as a favorite only works to select that folder in its entirety. What I would like to do is to have a 'master' folder selected and then use Lightroom as I normally would (select folders, collections, etc) Filtering by path name would enable me to do just that - and it does, except that there are false positives due to not being able to enter a full path name.
A smart collection has the same problem: the 'Folder' rule doesn't seem to support paths. And even if it did, it's not possible to select two collections with a logical 'and' operator, unless you make a new smart collection for each possibility.
My current keyword workaround is functional, but slightly error-prone. And in any case, if 'any searchable field' includes the file path, it stands to reason that there should be a way to match that with the entire path. The documentation isn't clear about this, so I hope that anyone can shed some light on this.

  • How do you create a custom search result for surrounding suburbs for a real estate website?

I have a Web App for property listings for a real estate website. There are item fields as follows:
    Suburb List:
    Edensor Park
    Hoxton Park
    Denham Court
    Cecil Hills
    Abbotsbury
    Surrounding Suburb List:
    Edensor Park
    Hoxton Park
    Denham Court
    Cecil Hills
    Abbotsbury
Say a property is listed in Edensor Park as the main suburb and Hoxton Park and Denham Court are also selected as its surrounding suburbs.
On the website's search form, the visitor selects, for example, Edensor Park. I need the search results to show everything listed in Edensor Park as well as in the surrounding suburbs of Hoxton Park and Denham Court. Is this at all possible?
    Thanks,
    Veronica.

The Filter settings are sticky.  Every container listed on the Library tab of the Inspector keeps it's own Filter settings, set to whatever was last used.
I'm not aware of any way to set a default Filter.
You could create a Folder and put a Smart Album in that Folder with "Source" set to the Folder.  Any Albums or Projects you put in the Folder become the superset for the Filter you set in the Smart Album.  This is a pretty sophisticated set-up, however.  What is the filter you need, and how often do you need it?

Using Windows 7 and LR 5,  when I look at the Keyword List a certain keyword has 7 pictures but when I check the Library Filter with that keyword 350 pictures are shown which includes the 7 pictures that have the keyword.  Why does the Library Filter showing pictures that do not match the query

    Dan,
Here's what's going on in the catalog you sent me, "Joel & Caitlin's Wedding".  There is the keyword "gwenn", which is explicitly assigned to 7 pics. But keyword "schwartz" has a number of synonyms, including "gwenn", and it is assigned to 25 pics.  There is no overlap between the two sets of pics.
I discovered these two occurrences by doing Metadata > Export Keywords, opening the exported file in an editor, and then searching for "gwenn".  I found two occurrences of "gwenn":
    gwenn
    schwartz
        {gwenn}
From this, you can see that the keyword "schwartz" has 9 synonyms, of which "gwenn" is one.
The filter criterion "Keywords Contain gwenn" will match the 7 pics that are explicitly assigned the keyword "gwenn", and it will also match the 25 pics assigned the keyword "schwartz", because that keyword has a synonym "gwenn".
This illustrates the behavior I mentioned above: The criterion "Keywords contains x" will match against any of a pic's assigned keywords, any of those keywords' ancestor keywords, and any of the synonyms of the assigned keywords and their ancestors.
So LR is operating correctly here, if not in a way that's easy to understand.
It appears that you are using the synonyms of "schwartz" to represent individual members of the Schwartz family.  A better way of representing family relationships is to have a parent keyword "Schwartz", with subkeywords for each family member, e.g. "Gwenn Schwartz", "Joe Schwartz", "Jane Schwartz", etc.  Repeating the family name in the subkeywords has a couple of advantages. LR usually only displays the "leaf" name of a keyword, so instead of showing you just "Joe", it will show you "Joe Schwartz", helpful when there are a number of different people whose first name is "Joe".  Also, if you ever export your pics to other software, it may not understand the LR hierarchy and won't show the parent keywords, so again it's more informative to see a keyword named "Joe Schwartz" rather than "Joe".

  • How do I search a spreadsheet for a list of URL's | then search those URL's for keywords | save the output? (Oh yeah..., and schedule it)

Fist, I should mention I am not a programmer but am eagerly learning powershell!
I am looking for an automated solution to accomplish what I am currently doing manually.  I need a script that would combine the following:
Reach out to a list of websites (probably a loop of some sort since the list will come out of a spreadsheet which could contain 1 or 100 different sites)
Search each page for a specific word or words (not contained in the spreadsheet though that may make it more scalable)
Save the URL of the site(s) that contained the keywords to one text file (versus the multiple .html files I am creating today)
Have the output contain which words it found on which site.
If not overly complicated, I would like to schedule this to recur once a week.
A working script would be ideal, but even the resources that show me how to incorporate each element would suffice.
I have had success pulling down the full content of the listed pages and saving them to a directory, which requires manual intervention.
So far this works, but it's not scalable:
         Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned
         $web = New-Object Net.WebClient
         $web.DownloadString("http://sosomesite/54321.com") | Out-File "C:\savestuffhere\54321.html"
         $web.DownloadString("http://sosomesite/54321.com") | Out-File "C:\savestuffhere\65432.html"
         Get-ChildItem -Path "C:\savestuffhere\" -Include *.html -Recurse | Select-String -Pattern "Keyword 1"
In otherwords, I have to manually replace the "http://sosomesite/54321.com" and "C:\savestuffhere\54321.html" when the URL changes to .\65432.com and the output name to match.  That works fine when it's a couple sites, but again,
    is not scalable.
Then, to see if any of the saved file's contain the keyword(s), I have to search the directory for the keyword which I am using:
    Get-ChildItem -Path "C:\savestuffhere\54321.html" -Include *.html -Recurse | Select-String -Pattern "Keyword 1"

    Hi Sure-man,
    Sorry for the delay reply.
To automatically Reach out to all urls, you can list all urls in a txt file "d:\urls.txt" like this:
    http://sosomesite/54321.com
    http://sosomesite/65432.com
Then please try the script below to save the URL of the site(s) that contained the keywords to one text file "d:\outputurls.txt":
    $urls = get-content d:\urls.txt
    foreach($url in $urls){
    $results = $web.DownloadString("$url")
    $matches = $results | Select-String -Pattern "keyword1","keyword2"
#Extract the text of the messages, which are contained in segments that look like keyword1 or keyword2.
    if ($matches.Matches){
    $Object = New-Object PSObject
    $Object | add-member Noteproperty keyword $matches.Matches.value
    $Object | add-member Noteproperty URL $url
    $output+=$Object}
    $output|Out-File d:\outputurls.txt
If you want to schduled this script in Task Scheduler once a week, please save the script above as .ps1 file, and follow this article:
Weekend Scripter: Use the Windows Task Scheduler to Run a Windows PowerShell Script
If I have any misunderstanding, please let me know.
    I hope this helps.

  • My iPhoto library has suddenly disappeared from my computer. When i click on iPhoto it tells me to choose my library or create a new one. However no library option appears. I have searched the computer for the library but it does not seem to exist

My iPhoto library has suddenly disappeared from my computer.
When i click on iPhoto it tells me to choose my library or create a new one. However no library option appears. I have searched the computer for the library but it does not seem to exist anymore. I did not have time machine set up, so there is no back up. Is there any way i can retrieve my library?
Here is a picture of what appears when i click on iPhoto:

In terms of searching i have searched for photos on my finder. However, none of the photos that appear are from my iPhoto Library.
Search with FindAnyFile. You can download it here:   http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/index.php
Search for any file with "ThumbJPGSegment" in the name. If you added at least one image to your library, the library should contain a file with this name, see OldToad's post: Re: Since I updated to iPhoto 9.5.1, my library is not listed or available. How can I find it? Can I use the time machine to restore it?

  • Highly frustrated with Outlook 2013 Search People box bugs - Multiple Name Results for Same Contact & Inconsistent Results

The Outlook 2013 "Search People" box does not function properly. It frequently displays incorrect results or a mess of duplicate results. I've reported previous issues about this and consolidating my posts into one (with screenshots this
time). Hopefully this message will be forwarded to or seen by the Outlook programmers. It really needs to be fixed.
Outlook 2010 and other prior versions worked perfectly. You search for name, you get ONE result with the info you're looking for. FAST AND EASY. But with Outlook 2013 Microsoft has created a heck of a mess resulting in huge frustration and productivity loss
with such simple but important tasks.
I have hundreds of contacts stored in my Outlook address book, and they all have COMPLETE contact info added.
One major issue that I'm experiencing in the new Outlook 2013 is that I now get average of 4 or more duplicate name results appearing for the same contact. And each result contains different and incomplete contact info, making it impossible for me to quickly
find the basic info I'm looking for. The cause of this issue is that Outlook 2013 now provides results from not only your local address book(s), but it also shows results based  on your email history and social media accounts setup.
And there's no way to turn this off, or at least specify what folders and/or accounts the People Search box should use.
To make matters worse, the Microsoft developers conveniently forgot to add some form of an indicator (like a small icon besides each name result in the list)  that clearly indicates what result is from what source. So you must manually click on each
result one at a time and repeat the search until you locate the correct one.
For one specific example, I have a contact stored in my local address book called
Infusionsoft. When I type "Infusionsoft" in the People Search box to quickly find a phone number, Outlook  2013 shows me 7 results with the same name. See the screenshot below:
As you can see in the screenshot above, every result just says "Infusionsoft", so I have to manually click on each name result one at a time and repeat the process until I find the correct one from my address book. This same thing happens with other
    random contacts.
From what I can tell, Outlook is pulling results based on  based on recent emails I've received from different people with "@infusionsoft.com" in their email address. So the first result shows "[email protected]" (just the email
address), the second result shows "[email protected]", the third result shows "[email protected]" and so forth. I don't want Outlook to show all of that. I just want what's in my address book!
And you would think that the last result would be the correct one from my address book, but no. Sometimes its the 5th result, and other times it's the 3rd or 7th result. So there's no freaking order of things here.
We simply need the ability to turn off searching of email history and other accounts when using the People Search box. Problem fixed.
(And please don't tell me that I need to "link" every incorrect result to one main contact. You shouldn't expect everyone to have to tediously link any and all results that appear to a record. ESPECIALLY when 5+ results for each contact appear regularly.)
ISSUE 2: Some names must be typed in a different way for the Search People to locate them
Another big issue I'm having with the Search People box is that some name searches don’t show the correct result, unless I search for their names in a different way.
For one specific example, I have a contact stored in my address book named "Dave Johnson". When I type "Dave Johnson" in the Search People box, one result appears, but it's just his email address, only. It's not the result that's stored in my Outlook address
book with his phone number, addresses, etc. Screen shot below:
If I type in Dave's name reverse order (Johnson Dave),  no results are found at all.
Now if I just type in just"Johnson" all by itself, it finds Dave's correct result (the one stored in my Outlook Address Book). Along with everybody else that has "Johnson" in their name (see screenshot below)...
I double-checked how I have Dave's name programed in my address book, and it's in there as "Dave Johnson" for both the Full Name and File As fields.
Also, the name order shouldn't make any difference when using the People Search Box anyway. Sometimes I can find people by Last Name, First Name or First Name, Last Name. Only with random contacts does it get difficult finding  their info and
I have to do strange things like this to find them from the People Search box.
ISSUE 3: Some Search People results only yield an email address only.
For other random contacts, some search results only yield an email address with no other contact details. But I can open the persons contact card from the address book manually, with the same email address shown! Screenshot below...
In the screenshot above, I have outlined the Search People box results in red, and the Address Book results in green. You can clearly see that "Robert White" is a contact stored in my local address book with full contact details, but the Search People result
only shows his email address! Again, it's not consitent. It's hit or miss with different people.
ISSUE 4: Some results just don't appear at all, but they are in the address book
Another issue I'm experiencing with the People Search Box is that some people simply  cannot be found. But I can see their contact info just fine if I click on the "People" tab down at the bottom of the page and type in their name in the "Search Contacts"
field. Why can't the People Search box find certain people? I opened up their contact details and cannot find a single thing  that would prevent them from showing up in results.
These are clearly serious bugs that need to be fixed. And I'm shocked as to how this got missed--or ignored during alpha and beta testing. I see the "idea" behind the developers having the Search People box search everything outside of the
address book, but in real world application this causes a heck of a lot of problems & confusion, and it needs to be fixed ASAP.
For technical details, I have Outlook 2013 running on two computers using hosted Exchange 2010. One system is Windows 7 and other is Windows 8. The same problems occur on BOTH computers. As far as my Outlook account setup, I have all contacts stored in the
main address book (no sub-folders or other folders).
Can someone help communicate this message to the Outlook developers??? The "Frown" button limits me to 100 characters and one image. There's no way I can communicate this level of detail and steps to duplicate in 100 characters!

    Thanks for your reply.
    1) The instant search boxes in each individual page work just fine. If I am on the People page and type in a name in the "Search Contacts" field, it searches my contacts and displays the results that I want. But I should not have to leave whatever screen
I'm in to find people now. In Outlook 2010 and earlier versions, I could be on the calendar page and then search for a contact without clicking off the calendar completely. For productivity-sake, it's a huge waste of time and hassle now.
    2) I'm familiar with how contact linking works, and quite frankly it's a huge mess in general. I NEVER create multiple contacts for the same person. I get that Outlook 2013 get confused now when it detects a LinkedIn or Facebook account for the same person
already in my Outlook address book, but we need to have options that allow us to turn off results from some or all social networks. This is a big part of the problem.
Think about it this way - The average person has 150+ LinkedIn connections, and more for Facebook. Many people today have accounts for both and they are setup with the same email address. When Outlook 2013 has to scan all the networks IN ADDITION to your
local address book(s), it's a no brainer that it can get very confused trying to display results.
Another big part of the problem is that Outlooks new search system also scans your email history. I receive emails from people who use multiple email addresses, or emails from companies with multiple reps or ticket systems that send you a unique
ticket ID # ending in the same email address domain. Now Outlook displays people search results based on everything under the sun in my email history. This is beyond frustrating (see my "Infusionsoft" screenshot above in the first post).
Again, I want to stress that for the search examples I referenced, I only have one entry in my Outlook address book for each person. And that's all I want to find when I search for people--what's already in my own address book!
    In summary:
We need an OPTION to turn off searching external networks when using the People Search box
We need an option to tell Outlook to not scan email history for people search results (I think this needs to be disabled entirely actually. It's not helpful at all)
There should be a fixed priority for displaying people search results, with local address book results FIRST, followed by social network results.
There should be a clear icon/indicator next to each result that gives you a clue as to where the result is coming from. Your address book? Facebook? LinkedIn? We should not need to click on each result to get a hint as to where it's coming from.
Work out the bugs in general with the new search system.
One other thing that I didn't mention is that the Search People box also shows results for people I'm not even "friends" or connected with on the different social networks. But I've noticed that some people use the same email address for those networks that
I already have programmed for them in my address book, which is why Outlook sometimes shows me these results. Does that make sense?
I'll try rebuilding the index, but after testing Outlook 2013 on 3 different machines so far and seeing the same results (all slightly different results on each machine and very inconsistent), I doubt this will address the issue.

  • Content scope document library does not return result for non farm administrator

    Hi
I have a situation where I had to go with a unique permission applied subsite to store 1000 documents in the document library. This site has a set of 50 users. I was able to create content scope and library path for search. It returns results for me(creator/owner/administrator)
however if I add other users as contributor or full permission, even after full crawling it does not return result for others.
I saw some article that security broken site wont be indexed normal way and to include and I did that as well but no result for other users. I always get result.
Please suggest if there are any specific security permissions that I need to include, so the document library target search will return result for others.
    Thanks
    Shri

    Hi Shri,
For administrator search results, it looks like the documents could be crawled and searched.
For other users you grant full control permission on subsite with unique permission where you store 1000 dcouments in document library, please make sure these 50 users have access permission(at least view permission) on documents from the
    library, then test again.
Also test if users search on search center site without search scope, see if it's scope issue or search web part issue.
If above doesn't work, please check ULS log for related useful information around the time when users search the documents, there should be more info to verify if issue is related to unique permision.
    Thanks,

  • Can you filter iTunes search results by video or audio podcasts?

I have been searching for hours and haven't found a definite answer. Anyone know if this is possible?
Can you filter iTunes search results by video or audio podcasts?

I'm having the same problem. I go to Podcasts/Video Podcasts/News and they only give the featured, favorites (whose?), etc. I want to see all video news podcasts but if I then click on see all, it drops the video classification and shows all news podcasts. The iTunes search in general leaves a lot to be desired; its not very intuitive or pleasant to use, not the usual Apple experience.

  • Why are my search results for mail incomplete?

Why is it that when I search for emails that I KNOW are in my inbox I cannot find them? This never used to be a problem until I upgraded to Lion. My inbox has close to 7000 emails so it is not practical to manually search through it for an email that is several months old. Why are the search results incomplete? I find this extremely frustrating.

Had the same problem- called applecare, a mail supervisor walked me through the easy fix-
(I am no tech so this is in simple terms)
(Assuming you just upgraded to lion) - the "library" was not "properly rebuilt" - the emails are there but are not fully queriable which is why the "recent" or "post upgrade" emails search properly while the "older" or "pre upgrade" ones don't- the library index needs to be rebuilt (which is much easier than it sounds)
    Steps
    1- Quit Email (fully)
    2- open finder, open "Go"
Hold the "Option" key on your keyboard - this will expand the menu to show the "Library"
3- Select the "Library" option, (you can now release the "Option" key).
4- Open the following folders (Mail,   V2   , Maildata)
5- Within the Maildata folder there are (3) files which need to be deleted (Trashcan them)
         (envelopeindex, envelopeindex-shm,  envelopeindex-wal)
6- Reopen Mail / (This will automatically reimport these files,  takes some time depending on how many emails)
7- Quit mail and Reopen (has to reload for some reason)
8- The mail program will do some automatic sycronizing  (You will see some the files "Reappear / fill in" while Syncronizing
9- about 100 (blank or garage or remant emails) loaded to the top of my inbox during this process but everything else was normal-
    Everything now works great

  • Spotlight search results for a contact no longer display details

    3GS software ver 3.1.3
    new problem with spotlight/search/contacts/results:
I use spotlight to search on a contact, select the result.
Normally it would display the details of the contact I have chosen. I like this.
Now it is going to the All Contacts function. This is a problem for me.
I have looked in this forum and the user guide for an answer.

Actually there have been complaints off and on for ages that keyword search doesn't work at all, though you say that it was working for you. Certainly it isn't producing a result now, though searching on your title does. I'm afraid that all this is internal to the Store - the ranking and search methods are opaque and despite various websites claiming to explain them, nobody really knows except Apple, and as usual they aren't talking. There isn't really anything you can do about this.

  • Full-text search in published project finding zero results for multiple-word entries

    [RH10, IE10, Windows 7]
I manage a large WebHelp project that has produced correct search results in the past. At some point the search function stopped finding results for entries of more than one word. For example, it won't find any results for "project plan" even though searching for either "project" or "plan" separately will correctly return results including the numerous pages containing either "plan project" or "project plan".
TCS support is having a look at the files. So far we have found that this occurs under Google Chrome as well as IE 10, and also that the same error occurs if we publish to FlashHelp.
BTW, I have another similarly configured project that does not display this error.
I was hoping someone might have encountered this and can suggest a fix.

    Hi Rick,
We do have baggage files of all sorts but in this project they are excluded from search.
At one point in this project Search failed completely; the Search pane came up blank after generating. I was advised by a TCS support person that PDF baggage files (and not just “errant” ones!) will kill the search function (hmmm…) and must be excluded from search (in the WebHelp layout properties). That proved to be right and fixed the problem. Search worked fine for a while until I observed this new thing. To be extra-cautious I have excluded ALL baggage files from Search, at least until we can eliminate whatever this new issue is.
