Library songs messed up

Hello,
My Library is messed up. I looked at other post that other people had the same problem. I don't think it helped me. I have some songs missing. However I located Kellie Pickler's Red High Heels in Blake Shelton's album/Song "Some Beach" it shows his name and song but Kellie's song is playing. I have no idea where his song "Some Beach" is. I have about 4 songs so far like that. Does anybody have a clue on what to do? I rebooted itunes, didn't help. Checked to see if itunes needed an upgrade and nothing. It said I already have to latest verison.

Thanks for your efforts in helping me out.
It is not a smart playlist. Standard.
Here are some screen shots to display the error.
1. File location when browsing for it in the finder - only two songs from the album available.
2. Songs in Music library - clicking upper left and searching upper right.
3. Regular playlist including all album tracks - playing one of the songs from the album.
4. File location (same as in 1.)- after choosing File -> Show in Finder

My Itunes library is messed up. Wong titles. Wrong albums. Wrong everything. EX. I play a song by avenged sevenfold but then it plays a song by eminem. Song titles dont match what they play and neither does the artists name. Can I restart everything from itunes? I know this sounds cunfunsing, (and it is) but yeah.
Once again to try and clarify, The song(which itunes says is by artist, band, person, etc) is mixed up with another song out of my libary.
If there's something you dont get ask me!!! thanks

I'm experiencing the same issue. Not only do I get a messed up library, but since I've let iTunes handle my music files, they too have been shuffled around - placed in different album folders and sometimes given names of other songs... With quite a large library, the cleanup makes me feel a bit like Sisyfos pushing the rock uphill - it's a never ending story. Only positive side of this is that I get to play a lot of music quizzes while guessing who plays the song that is disguised as eg. Buddy from De La Soul, and then afterwards try to track down the real 'Buddy' as this has also found another folder to hide in...
Shazam has come to the rescue a few times so far...
@Apple: this is just not good enough!

can i use a 2nd iphone if i install itunes on another user account.when i tried to create a second library i messed up both phones, the second one now has all my contacts and when it sends txts it either says its my other phone or email address. i can cope with the first phone and getting it back on itunes but dont want to syn the 2nd phone until i know it is independant of the other one. Does it matter that both phones use the same itunes store account?

Deleting the account on your phone only removes if from your phone.  The account and it's data remain intact and doing so will not effect your daughter's phone.
To do this, first go to Settings>iCloud on your phone and turn any synced data (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off, and when prompted, choose to keep the data on the phone.  When finished, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  Then set up a new iCloud account with a different Apple ID and turn any data you want to sync with iCloud (contact, calendars, etc.) back to On.  This will upload your data to your new iCloud account.

  • How to I get library songs upgraded from 128k to 256k

How to I get library songs upgraded from 128k to 256k. That is the reason I signed up for match in the first place.

Upload all your music to iTunes Match. Now that all your music is in iCloud iTunes Match service. You can now delete all your current music on your computer. Now download all the music from the iCloud and your music will be 256k. That is for PC or Mac.
On your iPhone, as soon as you download the music to your iPhone. The songs will be 256k.

  • ITunes library/songs

My computer where I had my ITunes library crashed.  Can I access my ITunes library/songs on another computer?

You might be able to redownload some/all of your iTunes purchased music via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage - whether you can redownload music depends upon what country that you are in, and how much you will be able to redownload will depend upon whether you've changed countries since buying it (you won't be able to redownload items bought in a different country) and whether the rights-holders have removed their content from the store.
Your own music (e.g. music copied from CDs) won't show unless you had subscribed to iTunes Match and uploaded your music to it.
You haven't got a backup copy of your downloads/library that you can copy your music back from ?

  • Library completely messed up - song files overwritten by other songs

I am completely devastated. All of a sudden most of my song files are corrupt. When I click on a song to play it, it plays a different track in my library (as if the song is named incorrectly, which it isn't). Choosing to show the song file in the finder works fine, it shows the original file with the correct naming and correct file size.
But it isn't that song. It's a completely different song which starts wherever in the original song file. When the original song time ends the completely different song continues in the next original song file.
The original song files seem to randomly have been overwritten by other tracks in my library.
Same thing happens if I play the song in a different media player. Copying the file and adding it to a different computer/iTunes turns out the same way... although now it only includes the time and song title of the original track, artist and all other info is gone.
Should I go and kill myself? Or is there the slightest chance of a solution to this mess?
How could this happen? It's so weird.
The worst part of this is that I haven't been able to afford a large backup disk for my music files in quite some time. But for me, with iTunes, it's usually not the disk that has given up on my, it's been the library file. I've surpassed many library crashes but have never been near something as strange as this.
The disk seems to be running without problems or errors.

  • Library of some song Messed up

My song order appears nicely in iTunes, no.1 is at the top of the album order and everything is fine. When I turn the iPod on, seems that the song order is all messed up. And for another artist, I can see duplicates of it. i.e. when u select your songs through the Artist part, you see <artist name> and another <artist name> and yet, everything is fine in itunes. Please advise.

You need to make sure all songs by the same artist have the same spelling of the artist name.
For artists with duplicate names, there is probably a space in the name that is not easy to see.
For example "Metallica" and "Metallica " will show up as two different artists.
Select all songs by the same artist, right click-Get Info and retype the artist name.

  • IPhone Restore relocated song files, Library all messed up!!!

Little history of my itunes library:
I recently got a new MBP and switched all of my music from my old G4 to the new MBP. (both machines had the save itunes version, so i just swapped the entire music folder, itunes playlist files, etc.)
Once on my MBP, I updated the library to iTunes Media Organization. Everything has been working fine, all music plays, seamlessly sync'ed with my iphone and ipods, etc. That is, until I recently restored my iPhone with my most recent back up.
After the restore, all of the music that was on my iPhone was moved out of the iTunes/iTunes Music/Music directory and put into iTunes/iTunes Music directory (as if iTunes Media Organization wasn't ever applied to those songs). Now iTunes can't locate those songs and i have to locate each song manually, which is something i don't want to do (23 gigs of music!).
The weird thing is that all the missing music files are still playable on my iPhone after the restore and after re-syncing.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this problem?!?!
Can i revert my library back to the old itunes music organization?

  • My Music Library Is Messed Up.

    Okay here's the situation...
I logged onto my account (on XP)
    I opened itunes
    I hooked up my ipod
And then i tried synching and it wiped my ipod clean, then i tried playing music and it siad it couldn't find the file.
Any ideas on how i could get all my music back without pay a lot of money??? I had 4000 mp4 files on there.

yeah i have a similar problem. it seems that when i open my itunes library, i tunes can only find/play the music that i bought from the itunes music store. it will not play any music i added to my library from CDs. i get the prompt, "The song ***** could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" sure i would, but where is it? i thought all music i uploaded from cds go in to the i tunes library, but i don't see any of that music in the i tunes library. then it tags the song i tried to play w/ an exclamation point in the far left column.
i'm running 7.0.2- i wish they would quit messing with this stuff for just a little bit.

  • Library all messed up (itunes match?)

    Hello,
My library seems to have been totally re(dis)organised by itunes match. Albums have been split into several albums - often by artist. Audio books seem to be in pieces all over the place and never in order. I have no idea where to start. It's across all my devices. Can anyone offer help- I can't find a thread that seems to be quite the same on here. and cant help thinking it's something simple. Many thanks.

This also happened to me earlier this month. I wasn't quite sure how or what happened as I was doing a lot of updating all at once between my PC and my macbook, but essentially my library became entirely screwed on both computers when all was said and done. I tried to just redownload everything from the cloud, and it was all completely wrong. The audio files were still there, but they were all labeled incorrectly. After a few hours in the store and then on the phone I gave up since they couldn't fix it in the store and couldn't even comprehend what I was saying on the phone. Luckily it was only my oldest music that was messed up (ironically all the music I physically owned on CD), so I pulled an older backup and manually reloaded the newer stuff and got everything back the way it should be.
Since I actually wanted to use match for my macbook and iphone I decided to make a new backup and then give match another shot. Aaaaaaaand it completely rewrote my entire library again. 2901 of ~15000 songs were aimlessly relabled as different songs and thrown into different folders. So now I'm restoring it from backup yet again and trying my hardest to purge any possible connection with this awful service. Side note: I used match for a year when it first came out and it worked fairly well.
Just to complete the experience, I was told that I could just use the "report a problem" button to get a refund. That of course doesn't work, it only appears to work for actual content purchases. It gave me an error when I tried it on my match purchase and I just had to spend 30 minutes on the phone (and apple tries really hard to prevent you from actually talking to a person) to get a refund/cancel my subscription.
Been using a mac and itunes since 2004 and this has me seriously considering moving away from apple.

  • My iTunes library seems messed up - any ideas?

Recently I have noticed some strange things in my ITunes library, here are a couple examples:
    * One of my audio tracks suddenly appears in the podcast section. The media type has been changed to "podcast" as well. It is also physically located in the podcast directory.
    * Sometimes a song suddenly appears twice in my library. They link to the same physical file though. Sometimes this happens to only one song of an album, sometimes to a bunch of songs of the same album.
    * Sometimes the meta-tags of a single track seem to be mixed up with those of a different track. A song by <Artist X> suddenly has the name of one of my podcasts in the "Grouping" field. An audio book suddenly shows the cover of one of my albums.
The list goes on but I think you get the picture. All of these tracks have been fine before. I can fix these errors but new ones spring up constantly.
Is there something wrong with my library? Does this have anything to do with the fact that I store all my media on an external NAS? Does my Apple TV cause these problems? Or my iPhone?

I'm experiencing the same issue. • Why don't all my iTunes Library songs show up in my music folder

I have a lot of music in iTunes (16,000 plus songs) and they are stored on a LaCie external hard drive. Just recently I discovered that when I click on the file folder where all the music is stored, only files starting with A through B are listed. I can play anything in iTunes ~ nothing is missing, but the list of music when looking at the file with Windows Explorer is incomplete.
The reason this is of concern is because I am trying to back-up my music to DVDs (just for safe keeping in case of a hard drive crash). I have tried to do this several different ways, but nothing has worked. I suspect that it has something to do with the fact that maybe the directory of this large folder holding all my music files is incomplete or corrupted. If I run the Windows Back-up program on the folder, it acts as if only the A - B files are there and only creates a back-up of them. I know the rest exists because I can play them from iTunes. We are talking over 55 gigs of files that are not listed.
I am trying to back-up my library, but I think there is an underlying problem that is causing whatever method I try to fail. Is there anyone out there who can explain what is going on?
    My question is two fold:
Why doesn't the list of songs in iTunes match the contents of my music folder?
How can I creat backup DVD's of 60 gigs of music?
Thanks in advance for the help!

Is that not a way to relocate the files? In other words, I have 16,000 plus songs in iTunes and they are all playable. They must be on my external hard drive in the file I have named "Art's Music" (verified by the check you suggested in your first reply). Let's assume that I want to put them all on a different external hard drive (my C drive is not big enough). What steps should I use to relocate my entire library? The plan I had in mind was something I found at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301748
    Is this going to work?
I am going to borrow a friend's unused hard drive for this and then put it back on my hard drve after I reformat it.

  • Can I sync my windows media library songs to my new ipod?

I just bought a brand new ipod classic and I am wondering if I am able to sync all of my music that I currently have on my windows media player library to my ipod classic? Because some of the songs that I have on there you wont find on itunes.

Import the content to iTunes using File > Add file/folder to library.
Then sync the content to the device.
