LibrarySession disconnect - Puzzling behavior

In my ifs Java application I have two sessions open, one for general repository use and one for searching.
I call getId() and isConnected() on each:
Session ID for Repository: 83490
Session ID for Search: 83491
Repository Session Connect State: true
Search Session Connect State: true
I then call disconnect() on the search session:
Search Session 83489 Disconnected
Search Disconnected!
Zowie - where did this ID come from??? I was expecting 83491 !
I call isConnected() on both sessions again:
Repository Session Connect State: false
Search Session Connect State: false
Ohmygosh - they're BOTH disconnected?
I'd appreciate any help on this: what's going on here??
Thank you,

  • Easing applied to list causes puzzling behavior

Maybe easing shouldn't be applied to a list component, but I'll explain what I'm encountering.
I have a list that slides into view (using clip to component bounds), with an action that should cause it to slide out of view upon selection of any item.
But, if easing is applied to State 2 to State 1, and I select an item, something impedes this action, causing it to behave unpredictably.
My list is contained within a custom/generic component. Clicking on the component makes the list appear. If no easing is applied to the "selected" state, it works fine. Not elegant, but okay.
    Thanks
    Kristin
I guess, to be more precise, the issue is with including a 'move' action to the transitions between states.

Okay, I seem to have solved my problem.
Since my list contains 2 elements, the list and the graphical background, I removed the 'move' action from the list portion and kept the move on the graphical portion.
This causes my list to slide out of view as desired.

  • Acrobat pro: how set default properties for arrow and line tool seperately?

I have a problem with the 'comment and markup' tools in Adobe Acrobat Pro.
I would like to change the defaults of some of the tools, eg the arrow and the line tool.
This can be achieved by right-clicking on something drawn using the tool in question and then selecting 'properties' - or by selecting the tool and then press ctrl+E, wich opens a 'Callout Tool Properties', and then change what you want there. The latter option keeps the changes as defaults - the former offers a box to tick in the 'properties' dialogue that opens - or, you can right-click on the object again after having changed the properties, and then select 'Make Current Properties Default'.
My Problem is now, that, apparently, you cannot choose and save default properties freely and for each tool. I woul like to have the default properties for the line tool set as the following:
    -line color: yellow
    -line thickness: 8pt
    -opacity: 60%
and fot the arrow tool as this:
    -line color: red
    -line thickness: 1pt
    -opacity: 100%
This all works fine as long as the program is open. As soon as I exit and start it again opening another document /the same one again, the arrow tool changes to
    -line color: yellow
    -opacity: 60%
only the line thickness remains at 1pt.
If I change the properties of the line to the ones I want for the arrow, the arrow properties remain unaltered if I close Acrobat Pro.
Why do these properties interfere? Why is it "line color/thickness" in both? Why, then, do only the opacity and the color interfere, but not the thickness - even if it's the latter two properties that are bot called "line xxx"? Why does Acrobat not save all properties for these two shapes seperately - even IF the two shapes are both of a line-like kind?
Is there a way to get around this?

Trobbel - This indeed is puzzling behavior. Clicking 'Make Current Properties Default' should preserve the default  appearance for each. I don't have a solution, but merely a couple of suggestions:
    1) Make sure you have installed any available upgrade for your version of Acrobat Professional.
    2) Consider using the line tool exclusively - you can add an arrowhead and make one tool perform both tasks.
    Hope this helps. /rmbrown

There are two places that I would look:
First, how are you registering for events?
Second, if you are using an in-house application for some of your uploads, make certain that after the upload is done, that LibrarySession.disconnect() is invoked. Among other things, this is the method that dispatches the events that happened in the LibrarySession to the rest of the system. If it is not called some or all of the events may be lost.

  • Icon Editor Bug/Feature?

In the linked video, I am showing a puzzling behavior of the icon editor (LV 2012 (12.0f3, Windows XP 32 bit):
I have two lines of text defined in the Icon Text tab. The second and the third lines, the other two are empty.
I am trying to draw a frame around them.
If I draw a large frame (in green in the video), things behave as expected (that is everything remains put).
If I draw a narrow frame (my initial intent, in red in the second part of the video), the text jumps up. Not expected (maybe intented, NI will tell me).
Notice that id doesn't matter that I am using line 2 and 3. The behavior also occurs if I move my test to line 1 and 2 instead.
Edit: Actually, while checking that the video was playing correctly from the link, I noticed that the first case is not as I intended it to be, as the jitteriness of Jing (which I used to capture this video) prevented me from drawing a full frame box. The result is that the first line of the text actually also jumps! If I draw a full frame, this does not happen.

The jump occurs in 2009 and 2011 as well.  It also seems to be related to whether the box you draw hits the bottom row of pixels or not.  It doesn't seem to matter much whether the box is wide or narrow in the left/right direction.
It also seems to be related to whether you have a background template defined.  It tries to squeeze the text data into the boundary of the background template, and if a background template is not defined, then it becomes that much more confused as to where it squeezes the text.  It uses other non-transparent pixels (such as the box you draw) to determine the vertical positioning of where to squeeze the text.
I don't think it is actually a bug.  I think it is an artifact of other code that calculates where to put the text when that code uses inputs that haven't been defined within your icon.  As you add those other inputs (turning other pixels non-transparent), it is a recalculation of where to position the text.

  • Markup tool properties error, Acrobat closes

Every time I try to access the markup tool properties (ie: trying to change the color of a rectangle) Acrobat encounters an error and closes. Same error occurs with other markup tools and also cropping. This problem pretty much makes my Acrobat markup tools unusable. It is not a corrupt .pdf either because it is happening to every .pdf I edit.
I have tried reinstalling Acrobat with no luck. Need suggestions please.

  • Strange problem with Snow Leopard and Netware

Here is a strange one, but I am posting it here because I think it may have something to do with Apple software in Snow Leopard. I recently upgraded my Aluminum iMac to Snow Leopard, and have seen the following, rather puzzling behavior in the Prosoft Engineering client for Novell Netware. The symptoms are as follows. The server volumes mount OK, and I am able to see the files that are located on the server. In column view, when I select a file, I am able to see a preview of the file. Likewise, I can use Quickview to preview the contents of the file. However, when I try to drag a file from the server to my hard drive (any location), I get a dialog box saying I don't have permission to read that file. If I do a get info on the file, it says I have permission to read and write. For graphics files (such as Tiff, which have Preview as their default viewer), double clicking on the file causes Preview to open, but the file isn't opened. Now, what is really strange, if I use Photoshop CS1 to open that same file, it opens fine, and I am able to save it on the desktop, as usual. Likewise, if it is a Word or Excel file, they can be opened in their application, and saved on my hard drive. Does anyone have any idea as to what is going on, and how I can restore normal behavior?
    Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately I don't know what's going on, but we're having the same issue at work on two Mac Pro machines. We installed Snow and everything's been running as good as before or better - except for this issue. One machine had a clean install and one had an update install, and both are exhibiting behavior identical in every detail to what you describe.
We've contacted Prosoft and they're looking into it; official word on their website is that Snow Leopard is fully supported.

  • Can't Import Ai Files Into Fc

Whenever I try to import an Ai project Fc just crashes to the desktop, no error report or popup.  Just crashes. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Bill

I have found that filters applied in Illustrator that aren't supported in Catalyst cause program instability. Not every time but enough to cause Catalyst to shut down, if not both apps. Factoring in Murphy's Law, that is, it always seems to happen when you've gone far too long without remembering to save the file.
I have found that refraining from applying filters in Illustrator and doing them in Catalyst after the file is imported, is the most effective way to avoid filter issues. I've been doing that with Flash, too, because I noticed ai files with filters applied before importing into flash were considerably larger than ai files that had filters applied in Flash after import.
For filter-applied ai files that could not be replicated in Catalyst, expanding the appearance in Illustrator sometimes prevented the crashes on import.
I also discovered that cut and paste using key commands causes problems--from crashes, to nothing pasted, to not releasing the cache from the previous object pasted, preventing ANY new content from Illustrator to be pasted. I have stopped using key commands entirely, even though I'm a keyboard shortcut junkie. Using the menu or right clicking the context menu seems to prevent many of the puzzling behaviors noted in this forum.
Yes, it's a slog, but after too many crashes of Catalyst one evening, I noticed it was messin' with Photoshop and Illustrator, causing those apps to crash even when Catalyst was no longer open at the time. It took a fresh reboot to make the other Adobe apps to behave.
Hope this information is useful. Just my observations. No response is necessary.

  • Why no Logic devel team reps on forum?

    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=482808&start=0&tstart=0
I found this thread on the Aperture forum. Looks like the devel folks for Aperture read and post the forums there.
I wonder why Logic users don't get the same treatment?

Aperture does run on the new MacBooks, but it is NOT officially supported, due to limitations with the graphics card. This means if you call AppleCare, you'll simply be told that you're running Aperture on an unsupported configuration. It's an "at-your-own-risk" experience.
That being said, Aperture will install and run on a MacBook...at least you're not disallowed from using it. No hacks needed!
And of course, Aperture is fully supported on all MacBook PRO models.
    Joe Schorr
    Sr. Product Manager, Aperture
    Apple "
Dual CPU 2Ghz Powermac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Logic 7.2.2 Ubuntu PPC

    linux,
A while back I ran into some of Joe Schorr's posts by accident and began to wonder myself why the product manager for Logic didn't engage in similar dialog with Logic forum members. I then did a search for "product manager" on Apple Discussions and only Mr. Schorr's posts -- and none others by product managers for other software -- appears in the results. This told me that his involvement in forums was an exception.
I don't know what involvement Logic's product manager has with sales and marketing (per tele_player's comments) but I can tell you that he is most definitely involved in a technical role when it comes to Logic. It might be fair to say that he's "actively involved".
Some of you might be wondering, "how does he know this?". Well, it's because I've spoken to the guy at length.
It's not part of his job to get involved in forum discussions. But he did tell me that he read digests which were compiled for him informing him of various problems which people reported on this forum. Based on another source, who shall remain nameless, the frequency by which that information stream now reaches the Logic team has been compromised due to recent changes at Apple. Read between the lines and you'll know what changes I'm referring to.
Sure, it would be fantastic for Logic's PM to appear hear to address some issues and answer questions from time to time. But I can also understand the reluctance to do this, even if it was part of his job, and this has to do with the anecdote that Dave Slater related above: even a well-intentioned announcement of a bug fix or product release could end up backfiring on them unintentionally. But the potential problems run deeper than this...
Take, for example, Korg's US product manager. He is yet another gentleman who takes an active role in the technical development of their products on top of his role in sales/marketing. Along with a few other members of Korg's product development staff they are quite active on several music technology forums. And let me tell you, for all the good they've done to answer users' questions, they also got heavily **** on for all the wrong reasons by certain forum-goers with axes to grind and other negative agendas. And if that sounds paranoid to you, believe me, it's not. I watched for a year as a new product by Korg was hacked to death on one particular forum by a small but active group of people with a perverse but very real anti-Korg bent.
In closing, my advice is to use this and other Logic forums to discuss Logic, warts and all. When it comes to the warts (bugs or other puzzling behaviors), you do a service to everyone here by bringing to their attention problems that exist within the program. Sometimes, what's thought of as a "bug" is actually pilot error, but I believe it's better to post about these problems than not. And of course, if a bug can be confirmed, use Logic Pro Feedback to get the message directly to Apple/Logic.
    Best Regards to All,

  • IPad WIFI Issue similar to iPhone one that has gone unaddressed

Users have been heavily pushing concern over WIFI disconnecting/invisibility behavior on the iPhone and that has gone without response from Apple for months. One wonders if they are dealing with the same issue on the iPad.

Note the word similar and not identical in the title folks...
iMac 24", MacBook Air, Macbook all connected to a Time Capsule and flakey WIFI happens off and on with my iPhone and my wife's iPhone. You can also see that many other users have that same experience and like the iPad it manifests itself with low bars, failed to find network, failed to connect to network, invalid password messages, etc...also consistent with what people are reporting on the iPhone.

  • G4 Ti Powerbook power only works when battery is removed.

My G4/15 Ti Powerbook's stopped booting on battery power. When I press the Start button, the hard drive starts to spin, then it quickly stops. The battery is fully charged according to the little green lights.
The Powerbook boots and runs reliably when connected to the power adapter, but only if the battery is removed. If I use the adapter and a battery is installed (even though fully charged), the G4 works for awhile, then shuts down spontaneously.
(When I'm plugged in and powered up with the battery removed, I have to use the Apple Menu Shut-Down command to retain the Date and Time settings. If I accidentally pull the plug, I have to reset Date and Time the next time I power up.)
What could be causing this puzzling behavior? The G3 Powerbook has a small battery that keeps the laptop alive between uses and retains the settings. Does the G4 Powerbook have a similar battery that might need replacement? What else could be the cause? Thanks for your advice.
    G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Bob: It sounds as if all or most of your problems may be attributable to the fact that your main battery doesn't make or maintain reliable contact when it's installed. Why you "take that for granted" and blame it on the design of the Powerbook, when many other owners of Tibooks up to five years old are still happily using them without any such problem, is puzzling.
Did you perform the backup battery test described in the article I linked above? If you did, and your backup battery is still taking a charge OK, then the likelihood is that each time you transport your PB without a main battery installed, the backup battery is being drained again. This will happen if the moves exceed a few minutes in duration. The backup battery is really just meant to power your PRAM long enough to change main batteries when AC power is not available. It will only last five minutes or so in the absence of any other power supply. That is, you shouuld be able to move your PB from room to room without losing your PRAM settings (incl. date & time), but commuting to work probably exceeds the capabilities of the backup battery.
If your main battery's position in its compartment isn't secure, you aren't likely to be able to address your constellation of symptoms satisfactorily without addressing that root cause first. Depending on where the case is cracked and how much that has to do with the battery's instability, you may need to replace the top case.
What is the speed of your Powerbook's processor, and if it's a 667, does it have a VGA or a DVI port?

  • Blue Screen except on Safe Boot

I have been struggling with my iMac for the past few days. The other morning I started it up and it got hung up on the "blue screen." I have tried various things:
    - Resetting PRAM
    - Unplugging power and hitting power button, then plugging back in and restarting.
    - Tried to start from Leopard DVD (10.5) <By holding 'c' while starting>, but unable to get past "blue screen."
    - Tried to start from Tiger DVD (10.2), but unable to get past "black screen."
    - ABLE to start in "Safe Mode" <By holding 'shift' while starting>
    - While in "Safe Mode" I was able to "Repair Permissions" but still got "Blue Screen" when I restarted.
    - Tried to use "Time Capsule" while in "Safe Mode," but the system got hung up.
    - I do NOT have "Application Enhancer" on my computer.
I am at a loss on what to do and cannot seem to find anything online which would seem to indicate that others have had this problem.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions,
    - Tried to start from Leopard DVD (10.5) <By holding 'c' while starting>, but unable to get past "blue screen."
    - Tried to start from Tiger DVD (10.2), but unable to get past "black screen."
    - ABLE to start in "Safe Mode" <By holding 'shift' while starting>
    iMac G5 1.8GHz 768MB
I would try booting from those install discs by using the holding down the Option key and then explicitly selecting the install disc, so that you know for sure that you have not just rebooted from the internal HD again.
Assuming there is no change, you can sometimes see this very puzzling behavior if there is a video hardware problem, unfortunately quite common in iMac G5s - see this thread in the iMac G5 forum:
    *Only working in Safe Mode*
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11119348
A possible explanation is that one of the features of Safe Mode is that it "loads only required kernel extensions." If there is a faulty hardware component that is only needed for "enhanced" performance (like fancy video/graphics), that component might cause a crash when a normal boot loads the special kernel extension that calls upon it. A Safe boot could conceivably bypass this faulty hardware by not loading that specialized kernel extension.
Sometimes, but not always, such hardware faults are detectable by running Apple Hardware Test, which is on one of the original install discs that came with your computer - see your instruction manual if you still have it. If you don't, running AHT depends on which model iMac G5 you have. You mentioned Tiger DVD (10.2), but Tiger is OS X 10.4. If it's a first generation iMac G5 it came with Panther (OS X 10.3) , and AHT will be on a separate bootable disc labeled “Additional Software & Apple Hardware Test”. If it is a second generation model it probably did come with Tiger, and AHT will probably by on Install Disc 1- hold down the option key while booting from it.

  • Odd FW800 behavior, frequent disconnects

Has anyone else had a problem with devices connected via FW800 being randomly disconnected, then reconnected? IE., if I have an external drive connected, it will, through no action of my own, just disappear as though it has been unplugged. OS X gives the usual spiel about ejecting a drive before disconnecting it, then the drive shows up again in just a few seconds.
This happens frequently, making the FW800 port useless. It must be the port, as I've several FW800 devices from different manufacturers that exhibit the same behavior.
    Thoughts?
    -David

    Hi,
I have this exact same problem with my MBP too, and both the FW400 and FW800 ports. My audio interface (FW400) and WD MyBook Home (FW400->FW800) intermittently go on and off, causing my MBP to freeze and prompt me to restart. I've re-install the associated firmwares, reset PRAM/NVRAM and I've unplugged everything, remove the battery and let it sit for about 15mins, but the problem still persists.
Forgot to mention: My device (the M-Audio interface) is still receiving bus power though.
Does anyone know a particular solution to this? I'd really appreciate it!
    Thanks
