License Exception connecting to MS SQL 7 - JDBC

I downloaded the trial version of WebLogic Server and the JDBC driver for MS SQL
Server.
When I try to use the driver to connect to the database in straight java application,
not in WLS, and I get an exception.
java.sql.SQLException: java.sql.SQLException: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ License Exception
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Missing license file for: WebLogic Server 6.0
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ License Exception $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I just downloaded the evaluations a few days ago and I set the classpath that
the documentation indicated. My Classpath includes <weblogic>\mssqlserver4v70\classes
and <weblogic>\mssqlserver4v70\license where <weblogic> is the location of my
WLS install.
I found a similar problem in the list, but it indicated a download of the latest
would fix it, and it didn't for me.
Any suggestions on how I should proceed?

You need to include the directory that contains the license.bea in your
classpath
or use -D to specify it on commandline
java -Dbea.home=dirOfYourLicenseFile ... yourApp.

    Hi,
Looks like it cannot connect to the database because the host or port number is not correct.
Verify if DBServer is valid.  Can you ping it from XI server?  You may also have to verify the port number of the database instance using the administrator tool.

    Hi,
As mentioned in the following configuration article, for earlier versions of SQL Server where MARS was not an option, the way to configure is to have server-side cursors configured.
(check out the tabulated column next to MARS_Connection for details)
    http://www.easysoft.com/products/data_access/odbc-sql-server-driver/manual/configuration.html
To use server-side queries in the connection URL, pls go through this link
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/howtos/bc4j/bc_psqlserverwalkthrough.html
But please note that server-side cursors does have a performance overhead.
Let me know if you need more information.
    HTH,
    Lakshmi.

  • Configuring RAC-aware JDBC connection in Oracle SQL Developer?

How can Oracle SQL Developer be configured to properly connect to an [Oracle RAC|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oracle_RAC] environment, I.E., not just setup to always connect to one of the individual nodes?
[http://programmersjournal.blogspot.com/2008/08/jdbc-connection-string-for-oracle-rac.html] has an example of a classic and the equivalent RAC-aware version of a JDBC connection string. I've already been using a RAC connection string of the same format from within custom Java applications without issue. I thought the same should be configurable in Oracle SQL Developer by setting the "Connection Type" drop-down to "Advanced", then entering the RAC-aware JDBC connection string as the "Custom JDBC URL". However, upon testing the connection, the following error is displayed at the bottom of the dialog:
Status : Failure -Test failed: Io exception: NL Exception was generated
There is no additional information shown on the "Logging Page" view. Using Oracle SQL Developer 1.5.5.
    Thanks!

Thanks, Barry. Just F.Y.I., it is working for me now that I upgraded to the 2.1 EA as -K- suggested. I had marked his reply as "Correct", but probably should have left a response indicating my success as well.
Now, if there's anything you could do regarding the [issues around the display performance of CLOBs, etc., in the Query Result view|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=3906571] , it'd be very appreciated!

    Vovo.

This is a database sever side forum. Your problem is client side db driver connectivity (the connection does not even reach the database from your description).
Thus I doubt that you will have much luck in getting the problem resolved here. I suggest you try a client language/driver forum instead.
Side note: I would add a test method to the code that takes IP/hostname and port as input, and then simply attempts a tcp socket open with these parameters. If socket connect works, close it and return a success. Else return a fail. Call this with the IP/hostname of the db server and port number of the server's listener (default 1521). Easy method to test network connectivity from client device to database server, without using any JDBC driver class and dealing with issues such as app protocol version differences and so on.

  • Java.sql.SQLException: E/A-Exception: Connection ended abnormally

    Hi all,
this strange exception occurs in the communication channel monitoring. I see there was a processing error in the communication channel which inserts data from XI. When I look in audit protocol I can see that after a few minutes the connection is ended with an error which says the following:
Error processing request in sax parser: Error when executing statement for table/stored proc. 'LVS' (structure 'STATEMENTNAME'): java.sql.SQLException: E/A-Exception: Connection ended abnormally.
Now my questions are: Why does this error occur? And can someone explain me this error?
    Regards
    Florian

I think I have the reason for this problem. It's a network problem. The network to this system has a high load. In addition, the JDBC receiver adapter was configured with parameter <i>"Disconnect from Database After Processing Each Message".</i> Now I have deselected the parameter and I have no problems.
    Thanks for your efforts

    Hi Baskaran
Actually i had the same problem which you are currently facing.
Iam on unix box and when i tried to connect to DB for the first time using the same code piece which you wrote i got the same error and after breaking my head i came to know that the Oracle_SID i gave is incorrect
Please check these entries in your code
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@host_IP:1521:*DBUsername,DBPassword,Oracle_SID*);
To know oracle SID on unix box type this command
    $ ps -ef|grep -i smon
    oracle 740 1 0 ? 1:27 ora_smon_support
    oracle 29685 29681 0 17:24:47 pts/12 0:00 grep -i smon
    $ echo $ORACLE_SID
    support
    $
On windows box logon to the Oracle Box (i.e., on which oracle is installed) and open the regedit and search for ORACLE_SID.
Also make sure you give the correct oracleIPAddress, dbusername, dbpassword.
    Hope it will work fine.

  • Sql Exception on Testing Configuration with SQL Server JDBC driver for XA

I have a requirement of analyzing the behavior of SQL Server JDBC data sources for XA transactions in our application. We have been using Non-XA drivers for both Oracle and SQL Server as we had no requirement for transactions spanning across multiple databases in past.I have setup and tested the XA driver for Oracle (Oracle Driver (Thin XA) for Instance Connections 9.0.1,9.2.0,10,11) in Weblogic 11g and its working perfectly for transactions spanning across two databases. No when I am trying to configure weblogic 11g R1 for Sql server JDBC driver to support XA transactions with driver details as follows,

    creating JDBC XA procedures
    instxa.sql completed successfully.
3.Verified that MSDTC service is running on both SQL Server and weblogic machines with XA Transaction enabled and DTC option enabled for both inbound and outbound connections.
4.Copied sqljdbc.jar (version 3.0 downloaded from msdn portal) to "C:\Oracle\Middleware\wlserver_10.3\server\ext\jdbc\sqlserver" directory and updated weblogic_classpth variable in commEnv.cmd file.

Can some one please provide some input on whats causing this and any other steps needs to be followed to implement XA support using SQL Server JDBC driver.

You seem to have done everything correctly and diligently. I would ask that you open
    an official support case.

  • Microsoft SQL Server JDBC Drivers 4.0.2206 timeout on first connection to SQL Server Express after it sleeps

Our builds kick off and run integration tests. They are configured to hit a SQL Server Express server.
If the builds have been quiet for a while, the first test to connect fails after stalling for 20 minutes.
    Subsequent tests are fine.
Reversing test order does the same thing, with a different test.
We noticed in the SQL Server express log the server saying it is waking up after being idle.
Microsoft SQL Server Express with Microsoft SQL Server JDBC Drivers 4.0.2206.
Connection times out after 20 minutes.Occurs with the first connection made after the SQL Server Express server wakes up from going to sleep.Connections after the first are just fine, until SQL Server Express sleeps.SSL enabled. Timeout duration for the connection failure is unaffected by setting timeout options for the connection.  Work around:
cron-like job that runs every minute that makes a simple query on the server keeps the server from going to sleep.
Has anyone else run into this?

    Hello,
SQL Server Express will go to sleep if idle, this behavior is not configurable.
When SQL Express transitions from idle to active some of the memory that was released needs to be reclaimed; this results is a slight lag during "startup time" when you're first connecting to SQL Express.
The other sort of sleep occurs when a database with AUTO_CLOSE unloading itself after a period of inactivity. This can be resolved by setting AUTO_CLOSE to false.
You can refer to the following blog about more details about this:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlexpress/archive/2008/02/22/sql-express-behaviors-idle-time-resources-usage-auto-close-and-user-instances.aspx
You can try to upgrade the SQL Server Express to a non-free version to get rid of this.

  • Microsoft SQL Server JDBC Connection with Enterprise

I'm trying to establish a JDBC connection to a SQL Server 2005 database server within XML Publisher Enterprise with no luck. What I have defined is:
url = jdbc:sqlserver://servername where servername is the database server name
    Database Driver Class = com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
And I have placed the sqljdbc.jar file in the c:\OraHome_1\jdk\jre\lib directory as the help file states to do. Bounced the server, but still no luck.
Is there a log file for connection issues to help point you to the potential cause?

Thank you for your quick response. I followed the instruction on Tim's blog and still no luck. Here is the URL and Driver Class I entered:
    URL-
    jdbc:sqlserver://our server name:1433;databaseName=northwind
    Database driver class -
    com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.sqlServerDriver
    My question:
    1. Am I right to use one of databases as northwind or should use server name after "databaseName="
    2. I used username "sa" that is sql server user. Is it correct?
    3. Some articles mentioned "sqljdbc.jar" file. Does this mean files mssqlserver.jar, msbase.jar and msutil.jar?
    Thank you for your help!

  • CF8 and connection pooling using MS SQL 2005 JDBC Driver

After upgrading one of our production servers to CF8 we're
getting errors under load while connecting to MS SQL 2000 data
bases using the MS SQL 2005 JDBC 1.1 driver instead of the driver
cf8 ships with. The following error is recorded in the logs:
Error Executing Database Query. The TCP/IP connection to the
host has failed. java.net.BindException: Address already in use:
    connect
Confirmed by the database statistics, Coldfusion is no longer
pooling the database connections. After changing the data source to
use the build in driver everything works fine. We've been using
this driver and CF7 for some time without this error.
Is this a compatibility issue between the driver and Java 6?
Or is there a conflict between this driver and the build in driver?
Has anyone seen similar issues? We’d like to use this driver
rather then the build in one.
    Thanks,
    Remy Becher

thanks for the answer...I have been waiting for one..I do agree that connection ppooling is same ..but I would appreciate it if someone could point me to some example implemenations using MS JDBC type 4 driver..
    Thanks again..

Far as I know both the current (not older) MS driver supports windows auth. Certianly the jTDS driver does.
If yes what is the procedure. One starts by reading the docs. If necessary then one googles.
