Licensing fonts for use in publishing books.

Hello everyone,
I was reading the forums here and I see a lot of questions concerning licensing of fonts with some very competent people replying. I'm hoping that someone can clarify my position regarding font licensing.
I'm a new small publisher in the UK, and intend to make print on demand books via Lightning Source. I hadn't quite appreciated the scope of font licensing and want to make sure I get it right.
I need to purchase or license a font for use in the books I'll be publishing. The font will only be used on my computer for typesetting. The font will then be embedded in a non-editable PDF to go to Lightning Source, who only use the file to print physical copies of the book.
I will also be doing eBooks but these will NOT have any fonts embedded in them. I only make this clear because some licenses seem to differ if you're commercially selling an electronic file with the font embedded. The only file that will have it embedded is the PDF which is itself not sold, only used for printing.
I did read somewhere in these forums that all Adobe fonts are licensed for this.
If someone could please put my mind at rest as to what I need to buy I would be very grateful.
Many thanks!

Typescript,
I will also be doing eBooks but these will NOT have any fonts embedded in them.
Does this mean that the viewers will see their own (standard) fonts in the eBooks?

  • Purchasing and Licensing Fonts for use in Book (Garamond Pro)

    I'm planning to design a book in InDesign and I'd like to use Adobe's Garamond with all of its special extras (titling capitals, small caps, italic alternates etc.)
    I was about to buy the font package at myfonts.com, then sign up for InDesign, but I'm wondering if this font is already included in InDesign and, if so, is it complete?
    Also, if I use the Creative Cloud can I use any fonts in it that I've already purchased licenses for?
    Finally, do I need a special license for a printed book or is that included in the desktop license?

    Hi Badmonkeyart,
    Please confirm the version name of InDesign.
    However, for CS6 you can refer the following page which having the detailed information about default fonts included.

    Hope this helps.

  • Licensing font for print magazines

    I want your help about licensing the use of a font for a print magazines. What type of licensing does this fall under?
    Thanks.

    You can find all the information about fonts licensed from Adobe (including fonts bundled with Adobe applications) at:
    Font licensing information, end user licensing agreements | Adobe
    There is no restriction against use of any Adobe-licensed font in any print media to answer your specific question. Obviously, though, you can't “give” the font files to the printer or publisher, but you can embed them in print-ready PDF, EPS, and PostScript files.
    Note that for fonts from other font vendors (i.e. not Adobe), other licensing requirements including higher cost licenses or even royalties may apply.

  • Licensing fonts when using a server based conversion utility

    We have a group creating brochures and logos using Adobe fonts from Font Folio.
    We have a content management system with a utility that creates a pdf rendition of the document or asset when it is uploaded into the system.
    Are we okay from a license perspective because we are licensing Font Folio for the document creators and embedding the fonts in the PDF versions using our pdf utility, or is there something we need to license for the conversion utility which is running on a Linux box within our content management system?

    Adobe's Font Folio license is a "per seat" license and allows you to use fonts on individual workstations.  While the license allows you to post the fonts on a server for distribution purposes within your organization, it does not cover automated document creation via a server.  Each of your document creators is welcome to create PDF versions of their documents but using a conversion utility on a server falls outside the scope of our standard license.
    Adobe can provide you with a separate license for these types of use.  If you are interested, please contact me: [email protected]

  • Problems installing Sonata Std font for use in Word 2011 for Mac

    I just purchased and installed Sonata Std font (downloaded from the Adobe website) for use on my 2009 MacBook, running OSX 5.8. I'm trying to use the font in MS Word for Mac 2011. Sonata Std is now showing up in the list of available fonts within Word, but when I select the font and go to type in characters within the font (such as flat and sharp signs, using the proper keystrokes), the characters are not displaying correctly (not at all, in fact — I get a series of boxy-looking glyphs rather than proper music accidentals). Are there any additional steps that I need to do in order to install the font and get it to work properly in Word?

    What are your language & region settings? Have you tried inserting those characters via your keyboard/ charmap utility? What is your default language/ encoding/ compatibility setting in Word? Definitely some sort of Unicode issue...

  • Additional licenses reuired for using Sql Tuning Advisor In SQL Developer 4.0.3

    Hi,
    We have Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0. Do we need to purchase an additional oracle license for using SQL Tuning Advisor Option in SQL Developer 4.0.3

    We have Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0. Do we need to purchase an additional oracle license for using SQL Tuning Advisor Option in SQL Developer 4.0.3
    The Oracle Tuning Pack is DATABASE functionality - it is part of the database. Sql Developer just uses it.
    Yes - to use ANY of the features of the tuning pack requires an extra cost license.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/license.111/b28287/options.htm#CIHFIHFG
    Oracle Tuning Pack
    The Oracle Tuning Pack provides database administrators with expert performance management for the Oracle environment, including SQL tuning and storage optimizations. The Oracle Diagnostic Pack is a prerequisite product to the Oracle Tuning Pack. Therefore, to use the Tuning Pack, you must also have a Diagnostic Pack.
    The Tuning Pack includes the following features:
      SQL Access Advisor
      SQL Tuning Advisor
      Automatic SQL Tuning
      SQL Tuning Sets
      SQL Monitoring
      Reorganize objects
    In order to use the features listed above, you must purchase licenses for the Tuning Pack, with one exception: SQL Tuning Sets can be used if you have licensed either the Tuning Pack or Oracle Real Application Testing. A new initialization parameter, CONTROL_MANAGEMENT_PACK_ACCESS, is introduced to control access to the Diagnostic Pack and Tuning Pack in the database server. This parameter can be set to one of three values:
      DIAGNOSTIC+TUNING: Diagnostic Pack and Tuning Pack functionally is enabled in the database server.
      DIAGNOSTIC: Only Diagnostic Pack functionality is enabled in the server.
      NONE: Diagnostic Pack and Tuning pack functionally is disabled in the database server.
    The Tuning Pack functionality can be accessed by the Enterprise Manager links as well as through the database server command-line APIs. The use of either interface requires licensing of the Tuning Pack

  • How to add a barcode font for use in Web Intelligence (WebI) XIR2 and 3x?

    Anyone have the steps to add a barcode font to WebI XIR2 and 3x?  Not finding a good KBase on it and was also wondering if there any "gotchas" in terms of printing and exporting to .pdf.
    Thanks.

    Hi Kevin,
    Also, if the solution provided in the previous post doesn't helps you then try the following solution.
    Following are the steps to apply barcode font (IDAutomationHC39M):
    1) In Windows Explorer, browse to the following folder:
    -- C:\Windows\Fonts
    2) On the File menu click Install New Font then browse to the font you want to install.
    3) Edit the properties on the fonts you have just added:
    In the "Embedding" tab, you should get a property like "Preview & Print embedding allowed".
    But, nothing related to a license limitation regarding the embedding, else, you will not be allowed to use the added fonts in PDF or XLS generation.
    4) Once the above points have been done:
    -- Copy the .ttf fonts you want to use in the following XIR2 folder:
    <BO_INSTALL_DIR>\Business Objects\j2sdk1.4.2_08\jre\lib\fonts
    5) Add the following entries into the fontalias.xml file, which is in the following folder:
    <BO_INSTALL_DIR>\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5\win32_x86\fonts
    The template looks like the following one:
    <FONT NAME="IDAutomationHC39M">
    <FONTFAMILY PLATFORM="ttf" NAME="IDAutomationHC39M (IDAutomationHC39M)">
    <FONTATTRIBUTE BOLD="false" ITALIC="false" LOGICAL="IDAutomationHC39M" PHYSICAL="IDAutomationHC39M.ttf"/>
    </FONTFAMILY>
    <FONTFAMILY PLATFORM="win" NAME="IDAutomationHC39M"/>
    <FONTFAMILY PLATFORM="java" NAME="IDAutomationHC39M"/>
    <FONTFAMILY PLATFORM="html" NAME="IDAutomationHC39M"/>
    </FONT>
    6) Add the following entries into the u2018i18n.xmlu2019 file, which is in the following folder:
    <BO_INSTALL_DIR>\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5\win32_x86\scripts
    You have different sections in this i81n.xml file.
    -- Under the first section
    <I18N>
    <FontFinder>
    <font key=u201DIDAutomationHC39Mu201D value=u201DIDAutomationHC39Mu201D/>
    u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026..
    </ FontFinder>
    < FontFinder2>
    <font key=u201DIDAutomationHC39Mu201D value=u201DIDAutomationHC39Mu201D/>
    u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026u2026..
    </ FontFinder2>
    -- Under the u2018font_aliasingu2019 section
    <font_aliasing>
    <T1>
    u2026u2026u2026u2026.
    </T1>
    <TTF>
    u2026..
    <font name=u201DIDAutomationHC39Mu201D>
    <os type=u201Dallu201D>
    <Attributs style=u201D0u201D filename=u201DIDAutomationHC39M.ttfu201D encoding=u201Du201D aliaspsname =u201CIDAutomationHC39Mu201D/>
    u2026
    </os>
    </TTF>
    7) Save the both files.
    8) Restart the Businessobjects servers or local computer.
    9) Login in to infoview and create a new web intelligence report by using the Java Report Panel or Html Report Panel;
    10) In the left pane, select the "Cell Format Properties": you will notice that an entry "IDAutomationHC39M" has been added into the font dropdown list.
    Just test the above u2018IDAutomationHC39Mu2019 barcode font, at your end and update me with the results.

  • ECC user licenses issue for using Webdynpro ABAP in portal

    Hi all,
    If we want to use Webydnpro ABAP in our external facing portal which is being used by more than 20000 users, how do we manage the ECC licenses for all these users? It will be really expensive to have that many number of licenses in ECC (one for every portal user). Is there any other work around for this?
    Any info on this will be beneficial.
    Thanks,
    Hari

    I am not sure why you want to use WebDynpro for External Portal . As Webdynpro is resource intensive ,  I never saw client asking for this type of  requirement. Are developing any prototype ?
    In my experience ABAP webdynpro is more is used more for business packages and  internal portals  not for external portals. If you want to use this AWD for EEP  Please see below link from SAP Help for pre-requisites
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/96/bdab419451db34e10000000a1550b0/content.htm
    Last Step in above Link, this mentions that ABAP Webdynpro needs logon.
    As other people mentioned there might be a good way of doing if you contact your SAP account executive to find out if there are any different types of licenses. But you end up in taking other extra licences which not acceptable solution for clients.
    If you want to use WebDynpro for external Portal ( which is not at all suggested for external ) at any cost , better to go with Web Dynpro for Java which will not need any extra  licences on R3.

  • Any license issue for using Forms 5.0 deploye application?

    Hello,
    if I using Forms 5.0 to develop an application, then using forms runtime to deploy, have any license issue ?

    Assuming that you have a licence for Forms then it depends on how you are deploying it.
    If you are deploying the application in Client Server mode then tghere is no runtime licence for Forms.
    If you are deploying on the web then you will need a Forms Server licence

    Thank you! It worked when I added it to FontBook on my Mac. I checked to ensure it was installed in the Fonts directory on my PC, and it was. So I closed out of Illustrator CC then relaunched it, and voila! There it was. Thank you for your support!

  • MS SQL Licensing Requirements for use with EIS

    Does anybody know what the licensing requirements are for MS SQL to use it with Integration Services and Essbase? We have a couple of small apps that I want to start using with EIS/Essbase/Analyzer. My procurement department is telling me that I need to buy a SQL license for each server processor, because I am web-enabling data that's in SQL. Anyone have any info on this? Thanks!

    That is really a MS question. But I do know pretty much how MS licensing works. If you decided to get processing based licensing, it is based on the processors on the machine where SQL is installed - NOT the number of processors of machines that will be accessing it. The repositories for EIS and Analyzer is 'minimal'. You can (should) install SQL on a single processor box and have both EIS/Analyzer use it.However, if you do install it on the Essbase box (which can be faster), you would have to secure a license equal to the number of processors on that box.If you do put it on a separate box, make sure you SA puts it 'close' to the Essbase/EIS/Analyzer box to limit network trafic.Rich [email protected]
