Light Flicker Problems

Hi There,
I've been having some problems concerning a video I'm making. After importing all the Video I've noticed a flicker problem on the image. Its almost like a very small glow of light that is that is constantly flickering. The footage was filmed in the U.S and edited in the UK, so not sure if its to do with the difference in Hz from the ceiling lights or if theres an uneven exposure from the camera? If theres anyone who would know how to minimalise the flicker problem on Final Cut Pro it would be a big help.
Many Thanks
Matt

There most certainly could be a frequency problem with lights. Are they flourescent or sodium lights? Those kind of lights do pulse and are more problematic when used in slo motion captured material.
Also you can get problems with these lights with shuttered movie cameras and telecining to tape. Throw in the NTSC > PAL conversion will only exacerbate the problem!
Can you post an example clip?
The flicker filter in FCP won't help as that only corrects interlace problems.

    Log Message:
    - Fix flicker problem with constraint bound text that is being autoSized.  If the remeasure is done in a 2nd pass you will see a flicker as all the objects are moved to accommodate the reflowed text.
    - Fix data binding issue with text setter.
    - Rework measure() to accommodate implicit autoSize.
If explicitWidth or widthInChars specified and explicitHeight or heightInLines specified, or for now, blockProgression != "tb", the text has fixed dimensions and is not auto-sized.
If no text and width specified, but no height, start at specified width and one line high and grow taller.
If no text and height specified, start at 1 char wide with the specified height and grow wider.
If neither width nor height specified, and toFit lineBreaks, start at explicitMaxWidth, or default maxWidth of 160, and grow taller.
If neither width nor height specified, and explicit lineBreaks width is unlimited and can grow taller.
These are further constrained by min/max Width and Height except in the case that explicitWidth or explicitHeight are specified.
    - Change default maxWidth for RichText and SimpleText to 160 to match RET.  Previously it was 10000.  This is used for
text with toFit lineBreaks if a width isn't specified.
QA Notes: 12 or so TextGraphic tests fail because of the new default maxWidth.

  • Macbook pro retina screen flicking problem

I bought this 15 inches Macbook pro back in Nov, 2012. And I have the screen flicking problem in Dec.
The problem is the same here listed on youtube. You can find hundres of them just by searching "retina flicker" on youtube.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ko6WCqw20ZE
And I did a lot of researches on this. I had also gone to the Apple Store 2 times, one Genius Bar Staff told me this has to be a hardware problem and offer to fix my laptop, others said it might be a software based problem and adviced me to wait for the new system update. I don't have time for a long fixing so I chose waiting. That particular one who told me to wait for the next software update also encourage me to dig deep and tried to find the root cause by myself...and I did. I found my screen flicking problem could caused by cellphone inteference. And It seems that the Wi-Fi antena is also a key component here. If I turn off Wi-Fi completely, the flickering went away.
    Some solutions I found online
    1. It can caused by Enable Safari webGL. So disable webGL and turn off develop mode
    2. Disable displaycard auto switch in Power saving tab
    3. Close the lid put the sytem into sleep and re-open the lid
    4. stop using Wi-Fi. That's right people, try disable Wi-Fi!! It's the only working solution for me.
    5. It could be caused by CDMA cellphones including US Verizon brand cellphones and many others. GSM cellphones are OK. Try to turn off your cellphone or drive to a empty plaza and try to see your laptop still flickering at your car. Turn off your cellphone when You do this.
    What doesn't work
    Reboot
    reinstall OS
go to Apple Store and change Logic Board (Someone reported that after logic board change, the problem came back after a while)
Let me know if you guys have any findings, Thanks!!

I'm sure that you've seen the problem with 'burn-in' and 'ghosting' on some MBP-R machines in threads on this forum. It doesn't seem to be an overwhelming problem, but some have reported it.
Did you buy it from an Apple Store or online? Either way, you need to get tough with Apple. Tell them you need to keep your computer and, when they deliver a replacement to your local Apple Store, you'll bring it in for exchange. That's what they've been doing with most people that have had MBP-R problems - I've never heard of them requesting that you send your computer back before they will exchange. Did you contact your local Apple Store or was this response from an AppleCare phone conversation. If the latter, take it into the Apple Store, explain what you want to do, and I'm sure that they will work with you.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Lights flicker on power up and on wake from sleep

I bought an 8 core MP from the local Apple retail store last week (08/2009). When I power up or wake the machine from sleep, my office lights flicker. This happens with or without the dedicated 550 VA UPS.
Is this normal? If not, will getting a bigger UPS help?
Thanks in advance for any tips. --Jesse

Mac Pro should not be used with less than 1000-1500VA and be sure your circuit can handle the load, the inrush load is the worst part, it is "outside" the norm even for a dual xeon workstation to draw that much.
I'd look at CyberPower 1500VA or 1350VA, just swapped out my APC RS1500VA for one and another to replace an older XS1500.
Try w/o the UPS and see what happens. I wanted to isolate and put my office/room on its own circuit and run new line so I don't share circuit with other equipment.

  • My iPad 2 has light bleeding problem, service center guy told me it's a known cosmetic problem, can't do exchange...

My iPad 2 has light bleeding problem, I called Technical Support Number (Singapore), they told me to go to an Apple authorized service centre in Singapore. So I travel an hour to there, then they told me to contact Apple online since it's a cosmetic problem, they can't send it for repair or exchange...

    Hi Peter,
There are always issues with the screen on devices. In the case of slight bleeding, one QC engineer might pass the product while another might not, due to color and lighting perception differences between engineers.
Different service centre will have different service levels due to the fact that this IS Singapore...
I suggest going down to QCD.

If it's a Starhub or Singtel set, it's more effective to be exchanging with them since it's not been a week since purchase (I assume).
    Cheers!

  • Do white new iPad's have more light bleed problems?

I have exchanged 3 white 64GB wifi only new iPad's and will be exchanging for my 4th one today. are there more light bleed problems with white iPad's? I don't know how many times i will have to exchange until I get a good one. can someone show me of a white ipad that has no defects what so ever.

I just want to mention that if the DSL light isn't on, it is definitely the phone line, however it is not always the provider's fault. Remember they are responsible for the line from the pole to the house, but not the inside wiring. If your phone line is unplugged from the jack, the DSL light will not be on. To be sure that it is SBC's fault, go and test the connection at the d-marc box outside the house.
Take your laptop, your modem and a phone line and plug it in out there. If you don't get the DSL light, it is definitely their problem. If you do outside, but not in the house, and you call them out, you will get charged for the service call.
Also the built in ethernet cards, more commonly referred to as airport cards, are not really delicate per se, but the wire for the antennae connection is most definitely. Only if you removed yours which you would have to if you wanted to add RAM, would you have any reason to be concerned about possibly damaging it. SBC telephone tech support is always showing off their lack of knowledge.

  • Light Leak problem, how much time to return?

I went to the genius bar for a light leak problem, which was confirmed by a genius. Unfortunately it seems there never is any iPad 2 in stock. Do you think I'll be able to return my iPad 2 more than 14 days after I bought it

Oh you may still get some light leakage.  I suspect almost all iPad2 suffer to some extent.  I didn't even realize I had any until the other night, when I was shutting my iPad down and it was dark in the room.  The light leak I saw as at the bottom right hand corner.  In normal viewing, it's simply not an issue and not one I feel is worthy of asking for a replacement.  What I have seen here on the forum is that Apple will replace your iPad once for this issue, but not a second time.

  • MacBook Flicker Problem - on Leopard?

    Hi!
Just to see any possible solutions, if anybody with the flicker problem has the possibility to install the OS X 10.5 (Leopard), please let us know if the flicker is present also on Leopard.
As far as I saw by now, it happens under Windows XP in BootCamp with various users.
    Thanks!
    Cristian.

Your right checking a bug would be OK. Problem is they couldn't tell us about it because it involves Leopard, that is where the NDA applies. Also there is a lot of time between now and October so even if it existed at this moment it may not still be there in October when Leopard is released.
I guess I have been lucky I haven't had the flicker problem.

  • Filter for light flicker from projected film

Hi-- working on converting my old super 8 film to digital. I'm getting a light flickering effect from recording the projected film with my digital camcorder, which I understand comes from a mismatch between the fps of the projector and the camcorder. Doing some research, I found there were some "antiflicker" filters for some PC programs, eg. http://neuron2.net/deflick/flick.html and http://www.3prong.com/FFiXUGF.htm. Is there anything out there for FC (or existing already in FC's tool set) that can achieve the same thing? Unforunately, the built-in flicker filter addresses a different problem altogether.
    Thanks.

Thank you-- that's the thread I've been hoping to find. Right now I have a simple set up--movie projector about 5 feet onto a white wall, and digital camera just behind and to the right. The two main problems I'm having are with flicker and color. Perhaps the color can be improved with exposure adjustment, bit the flicker is so irritating! I do have a variable speed projector, and more reading suggests that the optimal speed is just a tad faster than the normal speed, whereas for me the optimal speed has been at the fastest setting, and still with very noticeable and headache-inducing flicker; perhaps I need to be more patient in finding the "sweet zone".
I actually do not mind having this professionally done, if only I can get a free sample just to make sure the results justify the cost.
Thanks again, and please feel free to pass along any more tips you have discovered.

  • CS3 - lights flicker- ext/night

    Hi,
I have a video clip, 720x480i dv ntsc 29.97.. of some people eating dinner at night outside on a porch/veranda...
It's lit by what looks like a single source ( floodlight maybe ..out of frame )...and the light flickers.
It looks like what you might get shooting film with HMI sine wave instead of square wave ballast....
Orrrr...looks like what an incandescent light would be like if the cycle per sec of the power was about 40-45....
The country is Zimbabwe...and I saw in other shots power cables going to the building...so I doubt it's a generator but don't know.
Anyway, I know this is crazy but is there any way to make the flicker less noticeable when dealing with low cycle per second incandescent type problem like this looks like ??  It's the only shot I have of  " dinner" at this location....  GRRRRR...
    Rod

    Hi,
Good idea !  hehe...you sure do come up with cool ideas pretty quick....I
would do a light behind a ceiling fan though....looks more like that...
But really, it doesn't look TOOOOO terrible once it's exported....  and I
could scrap the shot and use a dinner scene from the 2nd country they go to
    (interior...could be anywhere...)...
But guess what ?  This will crack you up....as it is the absolute HEIGHT of
STUPIDITY on my part....no matter what I do from now on , the rest of my
life, I can only exhibit more SMARTNESS....that's how far north I've gone
    with STUPIDITY...
My latest timeline, outline, storyboard, whatever you want to call it...in
order to have a coherent story for this hunting trip....was to have mainly
the first part concentrating on the hunt for cape baffalo....  in the end
the ol herd gets spooked before he can close in and get a shot... (open
sights on this trip - all tracking and sneaking up on sort of stuff ).
THEN (after the minor disappointment of NOT getting the ol buffalo, we end
on a HIGH NOTE....going for the big ol elephant !  And we GET the elephant !
Success !  Everyone eats elephant in the local village for a week and
    everyone is happy !
Sooooo, I got about 25 min into this thing, thinking it's going to be about
an hour or 1.3 hours altogether....and I've finished the buffalo part....
Guess what screwed up the whole thing ????  Which, yours truly didn't even
notice till now, due to being STUPID beyond measure ?!
Yep....wardrobe continuity.   GAWD !!!!!!!!!!  Everything is now totally and
    amazingly TOTALLY MESSED UP....
I am going to sulk in the corner by the plastic plant with the dunce hat
    on.....see you later

  • Blue screen on c7280 all in one reads b851fe84. lights flicker on and off. will not turn off.

HP Photosmart C7280 All-In-One printer.  Operating system is Windows XP.  This has happened sporadically over several months.  A few weeks ago, I inserted new ink cartridges and that seemed to stop the problem.  Now, it has returned.  The on/off button will not turn the printer off.  The photo-menu, print photos, auto answer, on/off button, plus a light near the card slots all blink on and off.  The PhotoSmart Express displays a blue screen with B851FE84 written on it.  On occasion, I have received other blue screen messages but they appear for just a second or two.  I believe one earlier today was B01B17FC but it only appeared for a second or two so it may not be correctly recorded.
