Lightroom 3 broken

When I opened my Lightroom 3 today, everything was gone.  My catalogs, presets and preferences are all GONE.  It's as if the program has been reset.  Does anyone know why this might have happened??  Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I have answered you in your other thread.

  • Lightroom 5.7.1 to Photoshop CC Roundtrip broken.   How does one fix it?

Lightroom 5.7.1 to Photoshop CC Roundtrip is broken.  It used to work.  Now, the CR2 and NEF files can be loaded in PSCC but they do not appear in PSCC when requested in LR (i.e., Photo>Edit In>PhotoshopCC).  I've reinstalled PSCC and LR - no change.  How can I get LR to Roundtrip to PSCC?  I've check the Preferences in LR, PSCC, BridgeCC6.1.0.115, and CR8.7.1.311.
    I have the following:
    MacOSC10.7.5 / LR5.7.1 / PSCC14.2.1x64 / Mac(2007)-Processor  2 x 3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon-Memory  8 GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM-Graphics  ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB

If you DO buy the upgrade, once you have your serial # for Lightroom 6, you won't need to re-download it. Just follow the instructions here:  Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Help | Serialize Lightroom CC trial to activate as Lightroom 6

  • LightRoom 1.4 : broken JPG display -- how to downgrade?

I (unfortunately) upgraded to LightRoom 1.4 from 1.3.
When I look at JPG images, they often appear broken: in the upper left-hand corner, I see a smaller copy of the image itself embedded in the main image.
The most annoying thing is that even though I have the 1.3 dmg (on a mac), it refuses to install if I erase the 1.4 version, and I try to install the 1.3 dmg.
Anyone knows at least how to downgrade to 1.3, while we wait for the bugs to be fixed?
    Many thanks,
    Luca

The problem is intermittent: I loaded a whole folder of photos, and some of them were thus corrupted. As I was browsing, some previously uncorrupted photos became corrupted.
Once I switched back to LightRoom 1.3.1, all photos are fine -- this means that the files on disk are unaffected; it is their on-screen rendering which is affected.
The files were produced with my Olympus E-3. Btw, the toilet shot is not meant to be ... interpreted: it is just a photo I took to document some plumbing work, and I am sure the JPG was corrupted.

  • Lightroom Mobile Sign In broken

I’ve just installed Lightroom Mobile on my iPad for the first time.
When I launch the app, and click the ‘Get Started Now’ button, a Sign Up window pops up, but all it contains is this text:
    {"error":"bad_request","error_description":"Locale part \"en-gb\" contains invalid characters"}
I gather Adobe has broken something on the server side?

Hi kevinyank , could you please try to re-sign-in again without switching your ios to English. We've just deployed a fix so that the problem should be solved.

  • Publishing from Lightroom into Flickr broken

Recently the Adobe Lightroom publishing service to Flickr is broken on my PC. I added some photos to my collection for publishing on Flickr, clicked publish in Lightroom, and after some minutes it came back with an error message that it couldn´t contact the Flickr service. The publishing process stopped then. Strangely however, I found on my Flickr account that Lightroom had uploaded the first previously unpublsihed picture, with all tags. So the internet connection is definitely working. However, within Lightroom the photo was not marked as published and not linked to Flickr. So if I tried to repeat the process, and by doing I added another copy of that first photo to my Flickr stream, and then the whole thing stopped again.
My OS is Windows 7, and I am using Lightroom 5.3 with Flickr uploader it came with.
I already reathorized the Flickr connection, but that didn´t help.
Did anyone experience a similar situation, or knows how to fix this? Your help is much appreciated.

Consider trying Jeffrey Friedl's Flickr upload plug in. The work you do to install his code might fix the problem -- whereever it is -- and you'd have an inexpensive and excellent plug in. Might be more effective than poking the Flickr wall directly. He offers Lightroom tools (many chaoices) as donationware so you pick how much is appropriate to pay.
    See his plug-ins here: http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies
and the pictures on his blog are great fun. He is a good photographer as well as a coder.
I do use several of his plug-ins but am not affiliated with this guy in any way.

  • Lightroom 5 upload to Flickr Broken

The ability to upload directly to Flickr from Lightroom for Mac seems to be broken. Flickr says the problem is with Lightroom. The problem occurs when trying to republish a photo. This kicks up an error message that the filetype is wrong and this then blocks all further uploads.
    See these discussions:
Flickr: The Help Forum: Flickr API returned an error message (function upload, message Filetype was not recognised)
Flickr: The Help Forum: api code not working
Flickr: Discussing Lightroom has stopped uploading to flickr in Lightroom 3 and above: Flickr Publish Service

    1. I don't know.
    2. Maybe somebody else does.
    3. If I were you, I'd try Jeffrey Friedl's Flickr plugin. Why?
    1. It may not have the same problem.
    2. If it does, he'll be able to give you the straight scoop and/or fix it in a matter of hours or days, instead of weeks or months...

  • I tried to delete and reinstall Lightroom 5 and have the same problems. I was on chat last night and got a reinstall. This Am The shortcut is broken and when I open directly it is asking me for my serial number. I did that last night.

I successfully got Lightroom to open, it does not show my SD drive. I added the SD drive (folder) and it opened a few photos but then opened an old catalog. I tried again and got grey thumbnails with the correct Canon file numbers but no images. When I selected import, it opened an old catalog and began to convert it. I recently got the creative cloud subscription and I can open these photos there after pinning.  The problem is, I don't have time to figure out Photoshop before I need these photos.

Thank you for responding. I can display my CR2 files in any program that
will show them. I can drag or "pin' them to the Ps logo or button at on the
task bar and they will be available in Photoshop. I purchased Lightroom
before the Creative cloud was available. that's why I have a serial number.
You've got me thinking I have two "dueling" programs of Lightroom. Could
this be the problem? I have now deleted Lightroom and was going to
reinstall. I will wait and figure out the reinstall from the Creative
    Cloud. thank you again.

  • Using Lightroom as my external editor - worked, now broken

For nearly two years, I used Lightroom as my external editor for iPhoto using the following process:
    1. Select 'Edit in External Editor'
    2. Select Add to Library (not Copy or Move) when the Lightroom import dialogue comes up so that LR is simply pointing to the file my iPhoto library
    3. Make all my edits in Lightroom (my original is left untouched at this point, and LR stores data about how to process the original)
    4. Export the photo from Lightroom into the same folder as the original using the same filename
At this point, I would get a prompt saying:
    "The following files already exist:
    [path/to/file]
Do you wish to overwrite the existing files, skip the existing files, or rename the exported files to avoid collision?"
I could simply choose 'Overwrite' and my file in iPhoto would be updated with the changes from LR.
This worked until right after Christmas. Then, in January, the process mysteriously stopped working for any new photos. Now, if I use the same process, I get the following warning:
"You can not choose to overwrite the existing files since some of them are the source files"
Interestingly enough, I can still go back to any of the pre-January images in my LR library and export them back into iPhoto, overwriting the original. I have not updated Lightroom at all, but I suspect I did download an update to iPhoto. Still, I can't figure out what is materially different, and what I might be able to do to get my old workflow back!
Any ideas? And no, I don't need a lecture about the fact that iPhoto and LR are both image library managers, and that I should just switch to LR or use Aperture. I like the way iPhoto organizes my files (Events, Places, etc) and I only end up needing to edit 20% of the photos in an external editor. LR is definitely the editor I prefer and I'm not crazy about Aperture.
    Thanks dudes!

Larry you fail to mention that using an external editor with iPhoto will not allow you to save your changes back into the iPhoto library.
Unfortunate you simply are ignorant of how iPhoto works - when you use an external editor with iPhoto and save the edited photo it is returned to the iPhoto database and the iPhoto database is updated correctly.
There are many Apple apologists on these forums
No - but since these forums are for iPhoto support the users here are very experienced iPhoto users and do use iPhoto a lot - no apologies - just CORRECT information on how to use iPhoto (and if it will not doe what you want sometimes suggestions on where to go to do what yo want)
and they will either try to convince you that other software is not as good
I certainly have NEVER seen this - every piece of software has good and bad points - and again remember *this is an iPhoto support forum*.
or totally ignore newbie users whom want to know how they can do something in iPhoto when it is not possible due to it's limitations.
Once again this is simply incorrect - unfortunately you have no idea how iPhoto works or how to use it
Rather, in my opinion I prefer to be honest
Honest maybe - but very unknowledgeable
and if another application does a function that iPhoto doesn't then I would personally point that out.
Good plan - the problem is that you simply are ignorant of how iPhoto works and what it can do so con are posting erroneous information making false claims
Your totally incorrect posts are unnecessary and could be confusing to users who want information - as the TOU state please TEST your assumptions before you post them here - totally incorrect posts like yours are not the least bit helpful

  • Lightroom wont work in Internet Explorer, flash broken

After making a picture page in lightroom and exporting, it will load perfectly in Firefox but not IE.
When opening the lightroom page, the following message is displayed:
This photo gallery requires the Adobe Flash Player.Get the free Flash Player here
It doesn't actually update, or rather the update does nothing, with IE not being able to load lightroom. I thought it could have been vista, but after moving it to another computer (XP) internet explorer can not open the page.
My fear is that some HR rep will try to view a portfolio in IE, it wont work, and then lightroom is pretty much worthless.

When you find lists like that getting too long, it means -
    1. You are not using CSS optimally, and
    2. You are using too many fonts

  • Integration between Lightroom and Photoshop broken

It will almost inevitably turn out that I'm missing something glaringly obvious, but since upgrading to Lightroom 5.5 and Photoshop CC 2014, my photos are losing their LR adjustments when sent to PS. I'm no longer asked how I want the RAW files rendered, and resetting the warning dialogues in both applications has had no effect. I've been using PS and LR together for a couple of years now, and have never seen this problem.
    Steve

Well, i have fixed it for now — just removed the 5.5  and reinstalled 5.4, which seems to be working fine with Photoshop CC 2014.
Waiting for a fix now is not so bad

  • Lightroom Is Still Broken in Leopard

Well here we are, Nov. 10th.
Lightroom Still isnt working in Leopard.
    How close are we Adobe?

    For 64 bit Carbon?
    http://arstechnica.com/reviews/os/mac-os-x-10-5.ars/6
Yeah, I know that for Adobe (and for Microsoft) it's a big deal. Because of the huge code bases and extensive support and code base that dates to pre-OS X days. Basically no "free" 64 bit support as many parts of the UI layer just ain't going 64 bit. Also given the "Hey when is Photoshop going to be 64 bit?" questions it's not something that isn't being considered :-)
These types of problems though really affect software products that have been around for a long, long time way more than they do other apps. Because none of these SDKs were available in System 6. Well if Photoshop were developed from the start on NextStep maybe it would have been easier but it's a fine line balancing the needs of what's good for the platform in the future and the needs of your existing user base (and the apps they must rely on).
I mean, you get apps like this that come out of nowhere:
    http://www.naked.la/light/
Which largely rely on the OS foundations to do the work. Core Image is something that's really cool (modulo performance issues and hardware requirements) that can substantially reduce development time here. But if you're doing cross-platform and there's no Win32 equivalent then they aren't any help.
Anyway, regarding API choices and legacy compatibility and the like -- I'm glad I don't have to make those decisions :-)

  • Importing large number of images still broken in Lightroom 1.1

    It's deja-vu all over again :(
Clean XP SP2 install, clean LR 1.1 install, new library
Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, almost 2TB disk space
28,000 RAW images from Canon 10D, 1D Mark II and 1Ds Mark II
I have a 30" screen so I set my library to: high quality previews, 2048 pixels high, never drop 1:1 previews, automatically export to xmp
I have tried importing the whole lot, tried a subset of a few thousand images, same result.
    I always import in place.
If I try importing images without generating standard sized previews it always completes, my library ends up being about 330MB, the Catalog Previews.lrdata directory contains roughly the number of files that were imported. So far so good. I've tried compacting the library at this point, it didn't make a difference. After importing lightroom just goes to 50% CPU and stays there for hours. Eventually it goes down to 0%. But then it refuses to open any files at 1:1 (it just shows 'Loading...', waited for half an hour for ONE images, no change), if I try to prerender 1:1 previews it takes several MINUTES PER IMAGE (no disk activity to speak of, CPU busy) and the supposedly prerendered images have the same 'Loading...' problem.
If I try importing images and generate standard sized previews I notice that after about 1000 files get added to the 'Catalog Previews.lrdata' directory it stops growing, new directories keep getting added but they're empty (this is on a drive with 400GB free...). Trying to open any of the imported files seems to work but after looking at two or three I get a red, up-side-down 'Out of memory - A2' error.
Has ANYONE been able to build a new library with a non-trivial number of images AND generate previews?
If anyone from Adobe is reading this, and cares, please reply and let me know how to proceed. I'm a software engineer, I have debugging tools, please work with me. I really, really, really want Lightroom to work for me.

Sorry to report, but I built my catalog [library in 1.0] with 21,000 images and it went smooth as silk. My conversion to 1.1 was fast and smooth, all of the library became a catalog.
I have been paring down my catalog, removing bad photos and dups with no problem. No freezes, no out of memory errors, no crashes. I will admit that I had a couple of OOMs and occasional crash before 1.1, but those went away with the addition of the second pagefile on second HDD.
Do I know what actually caused the fixes, not really. I used the "fix everything" approach. Somewhere along the line, something clicked I expect, but I had no serious problems even in the beginning.
I now have 13800+ images and I import from an external USB card reader, then import into LR from HDD, then convert to DNG inside of LR.
    -Core 2 Duo 6600,
-XP Pro SP2 with all updates after SP2 was issued,
    -2 HDDs, SATA,
    -2 pagefiles-one on each HDD at 1.5 x RAM [2GB],
-nVidia 7600GT video card with 256MB,
    -Windows kernel resident in RAM,
    -system optimized for applications-not cache,
    -remote Logitech mouse,
    -Microsoft keyboard,
-19" CTL 9GX LCD monitor [3 years old],
-monitor calibrated with Pantone Color Plus 1.1.
This article http://tinyurl.com/36uqqt bears on RAM situation Vista or XP that is not 64 bit, or even if 64 bit if vendor doesn't do things right.

  • Lightroom 5.4 broken with D3100

Urgent fix needed, confirmed it works in 5.3.
All previous raw files (thousands) are broken in 5.4 - the white balance management is very screwy.
Please fix urgently as 1000s of images are now unusable in 5.4
I have never seen a problem like this - have been using LR for many years!!! Did they do no regression testing?
    Cheers,
    Andy

What is the best way to provide a raw file?
I guess they have done this deliberately - great ! What b*oody idiots ! If they have done that they are crazy - to destroy all the previous images taken with an obsolete camera mwith no thought for the work required and no warning or upgrade path....
Any chance of a comment Adobe? Planning on changing any more of the algorithms to retrospectively trash any more files by any chance?
This bug is almost at the level of freezing all my images as tiffs and ditching LR at 5.3. If they can do this it makes a mockery of non-destructive editing - you would need to dump to tiff every file after you have done basic edits in order to be able to print that file in future versions of LR.....
