Lightroom 4 book problem

Hi, I just paid for Lightroom 4 after running out my trial and discovered a problem in the book module. I was editing a photo in CS5 and the book went squirrelly. Duplicated parts of pages and inserted them overtop of others which deleted the original pages . When I started replacing the photos they would show for about 10 or 15 seconds then disappear.  When I click on the blank page, the film strip goes to the photo I wanted in there but it's not visible in the book page.
I downloaded the patch, rebooted my Mac and the same problem occurs. Anyone know the fix? iMac, 4 gigs RAM, importing jpegs from external drive but exporting them first from iPhoto.
Ben

Please notify Blurb with your complaint.  They will respond, however it may be slowly during the holiday season.
I'm not defending Blurb in the slightest as I have ordered the same book three times now and am waiting on a single good (read correct) copy.  They have at least admitted fault and credited my account for the charges.  I hope to some day have a "good" copy of my book.  The last one I ordered is being shipped to a relative some 2,000 miles from me and I won't know the condition of the book until after the holidays to see if it was printed correctly.  Had to take the chance as it was intended as a present.  Can only hope they got this one right!
But do contact them via customer support and give them a chance to make good.  They offer everyone that option!
Good luck and keep your fingers crossed for me...

When using Lightroom Book module for Blurb book making, why do I keep getting a low image quality message if it's supposedly accessing my large raw files in my library?

I think I've solved my problem with a Google Search. I came across a free slide show generator
(contributions requested) that shows much higher quality slide shows than either iPhoto or Aperture 3.
You click on a folder of jpegs and it almost immediately generates thumbnails and within a few seconds
I can be viewing a full screen, tack sharp, slideshow of all of the files in the folder. Much sharper than
    I'm used to seeing.
I think I'll keep the Aperture 3 and use if for the purpose it's intended for in the future. I'll also redo the
image preview files to the small size it started with and then I'll copy all of the files I'm interested in from
iPhoto into a separate folder on another disk. I'll use Aperture to catalog and to perform image manipulations
on but I won't try to use it as an iPhoto replacement. I don't think I'll be using iPhoto much as an image
viewer in the future either after I finish moving my favorite pictures to the Phoenix Slides folder.
The name of the free program is Phoenix Slides. It's free to download and try, free to keep (though I
think you'd want to pay the small amount requested) and fast. My pictures have never looked so good
    before.

  • Unnecessary page limit for Blurb book in Lightroom Book module

I'm posting this per Julieanne Kost's request following an email exchange regarding this topic.  I am in the process of making a photobook using Lightroom and discovered when I reached page 240 that I couldn't add any additional pages, much to my surprise.  I was surprised because I knew from Blurb's website that the limit for standard paper is 440 pages and mistakenly assumed that this limit would also apply within Lightroom.  I did more research online and found many others being surprised by this limitation after spending hours and days on a photo book.  I will likely work around this by exporting from Lightroom to .jpg and uploading to Blurb, but that will take extra time and effort and reduces the appeal of using Lightroom to create a Blurb book.  I had also tried exporting from Lightroom to .pdf only to find that the .pdf format exported by Lightroom is not compatible with the requirements of Blurb.
My recommendation in the short term would be for Adobe to warn Lightroom Book Module users up front that Lightroom's page limits differ from those if going directly through the Blurb website.
My recommendation in the longer term would be for the Adobe engineers to make whatever changes are necessary in the Lightroom code to allow for 440 pages when standard paper is selected (and more specifically to make the page limits match the limits of Blurb's actual books).  If there is any way to impress upon Adobe management the importance of this, I believe it would be greatly appreciated by many Lightroom/Blurb users.

I agree with that (though a 330 page Blurb book would break the bank :-)
I would also like to see the LR book module allow at least all the same Cover Templates as Booksmart does - I feel really constrained with both of them but much more so with LR...At least let us Drop a Full bleed finished cover on to the front and back covers!
Lately, I do all the page making in PS, move to LR to manage the page numbering and then export to jpg and ingest to Blurb to make my books...pretty kludgy, isn't it?

  • My preview panel in lightroom book module has no "create save book button". Where is it?

My preview panel in lightroom book module has no "create save book button". Where is it? Is there a workaround to save my book?

The \ key will hide and show the header bar in the book module and the Create Saved Book button is at the right of that header bar.
The outlined area is what shows and hides when the \ key is pressed.  Maybe you have a keyboard that has a different key for \?  On my keyboard the \ key is just above the Enter key.
You can also use the View / Show Header Bar in the LR menus across the top:
If this doesn't work, then can you provide a screenshot of your LR book module?

  • Need help with this book problem...Pig game...can ANYONE help!??

I need help with the following book problem...could someone write this code for me?? Thanks!!
First design and implement a class called PairOfDice, composed of two six-sided Die objects. Using the PairOfDice class, design and implement a class to play a game called Pig. In this game, the user competes against the computer. On each turn, the current player rolls a pair of dice and accumulates points. The goal is to reach 100 points before your opponent does. If, on any turn, the player rolls a 1, all points accumulated for that round are forfeited and control of the dice moves to the other player. If the player rolls two 1s in one turn, the player loses all points accumulated thus far in the game and loses control of the dice. The player may voluntarily turn over the dice after each roll. Therefore the player must decide to either roll again (be a pig) and risk losing points, or relinquish control of the dice, possibly allowing the other player to win. Implement the computer player such that it always relinquishes the dice after accumulating 20 or more points in any given round.
I realize this is a long code, so it would be greatly appreciated to anyone who writes this one for me, or can at least give me any parts of it. I honestly have no clue how to do this because our professor is a dumbass and just expects us to know how to do this...he doesn't teach us this stuff...don't ask. Anyways, thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope someone helps out!! Thank you in advance to anyone who does!!!

Nasty comments? It's not a matter of not liking you, it's a matter of responding to the
"I'ts everyone else's fault but mine" attitude of your post.
If you are genuine, the program is very easy to write, so, your Professor is correct when he said you should
be able to do it. I'm still very much in the beginner category at java, and it took me only 20 mins to write
(+5 mins to design it on paper). 2 classes in one file < 100 lines. Most of the regulars here would do it in half the time / half the lines.
All of the clues are in the description, break them down into their various if / else conditions. Write it down on paper.
Have a go. Try to achieve something. Post what you've tried, no-one will laugh at you, and you will be
pleasanty surprised at the level of help you will get when you've "obviously" made some effort.
Again, have a go. If you don't like problem-solving, then you don't like programming. So, you gotta ask
yourself - "what am I doin' here?"

Was will mir diese Fehlermeldung sagen?

    Hallo Matthias,
würde mich natürlich freuen, wenn - Deine Kernfrage war ja die Sache mit dem AAM - endlich wieder alles gut läuft. Also, hast Du das getestet?
Was "... weit jenseits meiner Kompetenz ..." betrifft kannst Du Dich ruhig noch 'mal melden. Hier gibt's genügend cracks, die Dir weiterhelfen werden.

  • Offline Address Book problem with Outlook

    Hi all.
A strange issue is occuring in my company. Few of my users do not appear in the Offline Address Book in Outlook (in cached mode) but they do appear in the Global Address list in Online Mode or OWA. I have tried to delete the oab files from the local workstation
and downloading the OAB again with no luck. What I find strange is that if I open the udetails.oab file from the user appdata directory with a text editor then I can find the users in there !
So in short, if the Offline Address Book oab files include all users, why isnt Outlook able to find them ?
    Regards,
    Fred.

Well, I got in touch with Microsoft regarding this issue and it turns out that this is not an Address Book problem as such. The problem is that there is a certain size limit to the Active Directory user object. When that size limit is
reached, users stop to display correctly (or not at all) in the Offline Address Book. There is a Hotfix available for Outlook 2010 that overrides that limit and a Hotfilx for Outlook 2007 is expected in April.
The root cause is in our case that we have a certificate authority issuing user certificates. When users log on to multiple machines they get issued multiple certificates which pile up and finally their AD user object exceeds this
size limit. The quick fix is simply to remove the certificates from the user account in ADUC (Advanced Mode - Published Certificates). When the Offline Address Book has been rebuilt and downloaded all works fine and all users are displayed... The real solution
is to reconfigure the certificate templates not to reenroll new certificates if a duplicate one exists but that requires some considerations based on the needs of your environment.
    Hi FMG,
I am having the same GAL issue with only 2 users; however I’m having some further issues. As you suggested, I checked the users published certificates except
that there were no certificates listed for the users at all.
Have you had any luck with a response from a Microsoft rep for this issue, or can you provide any further assistance?

  • Importing address book problem

    Hi, hope someone can help.
I'm trying to import an address book from a Virgin pay as you go SIM into a Blackberry Pearl 8110.  I can see the address book when I view the 'SIM address book' option and can dial out from here and the view is very basic not the normal BB address book view.  But I can't SMS from this SIM address book.
I've used the wizard to try and import the contacts into the BB address book but it just imports the contact names but not the numbers.  If I try and select oneof these names nothing happens, its like the address book has frozen.  I also cannot open the menu option when in address book either unless I delete all the individual names that have been imported, then I can select the menu option.
I've also tried adding a contact from scratch on the BB but as soon as I save the data (just name and number) it again goes into freeze and I cant open that contact even though I have just entered it.
If someone sends me an SMS I can reply to it directly from the SMS, but cant create a new SMS taking a contact number from the address book.  It just wont open the contact list.
I've just unlatched the BB so I can use it as a phone using Virgin PAYG credit I have.
Can anyone help with this contact address book problem?
    Cheers J

    What does that mean?
It is always helpful to receive help, to include your exact BlackBerry device model # and carrier name, so that when you have a question, that information won't need to be asked up front. Also, stating your device Operating System version is normally another common question, found on your BlackBerry at Options > About, third line down, looks like "v4.x.x.xxx"

  • Adobe Lightroom Book was included for a select few.....

A few people have been looking for a book that is included with Lightroom. Many people have stated that it does not come with a book.
To clarify things, Yes, a lucky few of us did get an 80page printed booklet with our Lightroom called
'Adobe Photoshop Lighroom - Getting Started Guide'. I just found the book in my ' Land of the Lost' book library of all the Adobe classroom in a book Books and after a bit of searching with info from the book, I found it at the Adobe website.
Here is a link to this 80 pg book from Adobe for all the people that want a getting started guide for Lightroom, even better for people trying out he free trial of Lightroom. This appears to be an exact .pdf copy of the printed book that I received with one of my versions of Lightroom.
    http://http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/lightroom/pdfs/lightroom_gettingstarted_lo.pdf
    Download the PDF and enjoy.

    Hello Kelly,
first, because you wrote that you "installed ..." a try to (un)install by own resources is not enough!)
As strange as it may seem I fear it's now a challenge for Adobe's Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool.
Sometimes - for whatever reasons - CC doesn't "want" to work. In this case you should CC completely delete and reinstall by help of Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. (A try to uninstall by own resources is not enough!)
I quote: ... helps resolve installation problems for Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Creative Suite (CS3-CS6) applications. The tool removes installation records for prerelease installations of Creative Cloud or Creative Suite applications. It does not affect existing installations of previous versions of Creative Cloud or Creative Suite applications.
Please use: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html  and follow the prescribed sequence of operations
On the other Hand, in my eyes it's as you said, CC includes many other programs, please see Adobe Creative Cloud . Here a screenshot of some of my programms I loaded down to use in CC:
If necessary and for further questions and if "open" please use chat, I had the best experiences.

  • Lightroom book upload to Blurb - "GutsSize error"

    Hi,
I’m trying to upload my book (112 pages) from Lightroom 5.0 to Blurb for already 2 weeks. I have tried at least 15 times, without any success… I always get the following error message : “GutsSize error”. I don’t have any clue what it means.
I can export my book as a PDF without any problem. I have also already tried to uncheck the “Apply background globally” option. And when I look at my book, I don’t see any warning error.
I’m uploading the book from Belgium, with a fast internet connection.
Any idea on how to fix this issue ?
    Thank you all !
    Vince

    Hi again,
Just to give an update: I found the reason of the problem !
The text on the spine of the cover was incorrect : there was an additional line, but invisible on the screen as outside of the text box. The error was just shown by a very little red square, almost impossible to see.
I hope this can help people having the same "GutsSize" problem than me !
    Vincent

  • Lightroom book

I have installed Lightroom v 5.6 (latest) on my desktop computer and on my Laptop.  I have made a book. I get up one exclamation mark at the pictures and the text "this photo is offline or cannot be found. It will be omitted when you print your book» This I get on both the PC. Do not have the programs up and running at the same time.   I'm not offline and I have brought in the directory where the images are located on, which is in Onedrive. Is it not possible to use OneDrive, so I can pick up my book both from my desktop and laptop computers?  Can someone help me?

The "cannot be found" message means you have moved, renamed or deleted the photo (or the folder that contains it) outside of Lightroom. (Hint: don't do this any more)
In the Library module, the photo should have an exclamation point icon, as shown here in Figure 2. That same link has instructions on how to fix this problem, just click on the exclamation point icon and then click on Locate and find the photo.

  • Leica Monochrom and Lightroom export problems

I am using the latest version of LR on a 2011 Mac Book Pro. I am running into problems when I export Leica Monochrom DNG files that are shot AT AND ABOVE ISO 6400.  Lightroom is brightening the files on export a lot so that the final exported file does not look anything like what my edit looked like. This only happens with full resolution exports.  Other Leica MM users have experienced the same issue.  I have photos and screen shots to prove this.  What is the problem?

What I was hoping for was an original raw image with all the OP’s adjustments intact so I could demonstrate what was happening at various zoom levels and with different settings, but that seems overly difficult to come by so I’ll give my analysis of what is happening and what to do about it:
The brightening has to do with the micro-noise-grain that has been excessively sharpened making the image a mixture of mostly white and mostly black dots immediately adjacent to each other rather than continuous tone of a low-ISO image.  This is not an error with LR or with the camera, and will happen with any such image from any camera.  The “brightening” is merely the visibility of the white granules at 1:1 zoom.  When a zoom level less than 100% is used, LR or Windows Photo Viewer or Mac Preview must determine how to combine multiple pixels together to represent one output pixel in the reduced-sized image.   Different viewers use different methods to combine adjacent pixels into one.  Some use Average, some use Median, some use the value of a single pixel position to represent the entire reduced-size combination pixel—this is called nearest neighbor and is the fastest but least accurate.  LR is known to use a fast but inaccurate resampling algorithm which is why there is a warning on the Detail panel to use 1:1 zoom to judge sharpening and noise adjustments.
The problem here is that this lightening and darkening depending on zoom level is messing with toning adjustments, so how to tone and adjust such images, is to temporarily turn off Detail sharpening and turn up noise-reduction then adjust toning in Fit view.  Then zoom in to 1:1 and adjust the noise-reduction up or down to remove most of the obvious grain, and turn up sharpen masking so all you’re sharpening is edges.  Maybe even turn off the Detail slider (set to zero) to keep from enhancing micro-noise texture.
If you do want grain for artistic effect then do that after you’ve removed the ISO noise.   The difference with high-ISO noise and added noise-grain is the high-ISO noise is single-pixel in size and will not be resampled accurately while the noise-granules created by the Effects panel can be control both in size and intensity so as not to respond negatively to resampling nearly as much.
If you are exporting images to nearly full resolution then dial back the export sharpening quite a bit.  If you are resizing quite a bit smaller than any micro texture will have been averaged out by the resizing and adding more sharpening during Export sharpening will help things look crisp, again.
