Lightroom 4 is crashing and corrupting files. it also crashes my entire system sometimes. I'm on windows 7 64x, Intel 5 4670, 16gb ram.

I've tried reinstalling it. Didn't help. It crashed when I was exporting 111 photos, then I only did 20 at a time and it didn't crash, but it crashed 4 times while I was editing the session. What should I do?

I tested it, its fine...my whole system is fine. Lightroom is the only
program that acts like this. Otherwise my system is good to go.What else?

  • Strange noise and corrupted files and trouble fixing

hi. forgive me if someone's answered this already, but my eyes are bleeding reading through all the comments without finding a fitting answer. my ibook g3 dual usb has been great all these years. every once in a while i get the "unable to mount" question mark folder at startup and have been able to fix it using the disk utility first aid stuff that came with my computer. but i've also had trouble in the last few years with corrupted files paralyzing my computer anywhere from a few seconds to hours till i have to force shut down. when my computer comes upon a corrupted file it starts making this slight whiny grinding noise that happens as a series of noises - like eeeer eeer eeer eeer eeer - over and over. it immediately stalls all functions of the desktop/computer.
this last time, it happened while downloading a .pdf. unfortunately, after force shutting down, i got the question mark folder when i started back up and none of the utilities or norton disk doctor have been able to fix it. i tried running the hard disk testing utilities and disks, and it keeps saying the hard drive is fine. but whenever i run disk recovery with norton i suspect it comes upon corrupted files and starts with the grinding noise. i'm trying not to completely reinitialize the hard disk until i know i've tried everything. i just want to recover a few things, but i don't know how to isolate the corrupt files to trash.
under the repair function of the disk first aid, it says theres some kind of pdef problem or something, and that it cannot repair. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT I SHOULD DO!!!! P L E A S E. i feel like i've tried everything, including the custom loading of softwar install....
    thanks

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
The iBook would have come with the first version of OS X (likely OS X 10.0.3) installed on it. Using Norton DiskDoctor on any hard drive that has an OS X volume on it can actually cause hard drive corruption. DiskDoctor also reports the OS X files as "errors," so any "errors" it reports are not to be believed (although, as I said, using it can actually create corruption).
Could you please report the exact message you get when trying to repair the hard drive using Disk First Aid from the Install CD?
You may want to try a command-line method called "fsck" (for "file system check") to attempt to repair the hard drive. To use fsck, you have to run it from the command line. Unlike using your trackpad to open an application to do something, you'll need to type a text command at the prompt (#) to tell fsck what to do. To use fsck:
    1. Start up your computer in _single-user mode_ to reach the command line.
    2. At the command-line prompt, type /sbin/fsck -fy
    3. Press Return. fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it will display this message if no issue is found:
** The volume (nameofvolume) appears to be OK
If fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message:
*** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***
Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed in step 2 until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do).
When fsck reports that your volume is OK, type reboot at the prompt and then press Return.
Your computer should start up normally and allow you to log in.
(This information is from the Apple Knowledge Base article entitled Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck.)

    Hi,

    Please help me out!!!
    Thanks & Regards,

It's likely the same problem: CAD is not forwarding packets to CSD or the CCX recording service. Two common causes for this are:
The phone is not spanning to the PC port or does not allow PC Port VLAN Access. Change these options to true on the phone's configuration in CUCM.
The NIC of the agent's PC running CAD is not processing 802.1q-tagged Ethernet frames. It must not drop these and pass them into the Windows NDIS stack for CAD to get them. Google is your friend here; this commonly requires registry changes to make the NIC process the packets.

  • Why is Facebook constantly crashing my entire system?

For weeks now Facebook (Mafia Wars) has crashed my entire Linux Mint system as it totally freezes.
Rebooting is my only option. The problem can be when simply loading Maria Wars, sometimes when using various features - nothing consistent.
Firefox in Windows XP(sp3) the crashing is less severe but is still bad in Mafia Wars.
No doubt, Mafia Wars is the issue but Chrome in Mint and XP works fine. Any advice guys as this issue is spoiling the use of Firefox.

Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
From the top menu bar, select
    View ▹ Columns ▹ # Ports
if not already selected. Click the heading of the Ports  column in the process table to sort the entries by port usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process?

  • FCPX crashes the entire system when applying Ken Burns

When applying Ken Burns to an image, when repositioning the start and/or end frame the entire system locks up, not just FCPX. The cursor can still be moved, but other than that the entire system is unresponsive and the only solution is turning off my iMac and rebooting. That is how the problem started, a few days later during the same process the entire screen turns black and rebooting is once again the only way out.
Is anyone else familiar with this problem?

There's a little icon that appears in the Project on top of each picture that has Ken Burns applied, click on that icon (it's a cropping square icon). that will bring up the Inspector and show you the red/green boxes that indicate the area where the zoom starts and ends for Ken Burns. If you drag the edges of both the red/green boxes individually to fit the entire picture, I think you will get the effect of not cropping. But it won't really be Ken Burns either because it won't zoom/pan across the image as it plays back.

  • Invalid Signature and corrupted files

Hi, I'm new to all this and don't normally have trouble with iTunes or my iPod but yesterday I tried to install the new version of iTunes and I kept getting a notice saying "Invalid Signature" and the download would stop. I also bought some stuff from the iTunes Store but when I tried to download them it said that the files were corrupted. I'm a bit annoyed as I've bought songs and audiobooks and can't retrieve them. Can anyone help?
    Thanks :o)

yesterday I tried to install the new version of iTunes and I kept getting a notice saying "Invalid Signature" and the download would stop. I also bought some stuff from the iTunes Store but when I tried to download them it said that the files were corrupted.
The invalid signature message often indicates that the installer is getting damaged on the download. (Much like your files, I suspect.)
How are you connecting to the internet at the moment?
For example, my Lenovo T61 is connecting wirelessly to a LinkSys WRT54G wireless router that is plugged into a Motorola SB5100 Surfboard cable modem.
What sort of setup do you have?

  • Troubleshooting Updates and Corrupted Files

Since a few days ago, my computer is not downloading its updates and its says that the downloaded files may have been corrupted and although I download them again and again, it still says the same thing. Also my computer isnt reading the adobe flash player nor silverlight.

    FrancisClass,
your image shows that three of these four updates have a “Restart” button rather than an “Update” button. After restarting your MacBook Pro, does Software Update still show you these same updates? If it does, are they shown with “Update” buttons, or with “Restart” buttons?
Regarding Flash Player and Silverlight, are you using Safari? If so, have you ensured that its plug-ins (such as Flash Player and Silverlight) are allowed to run? Open Safari’s Preferences, select the Security tab, and make sure that the “Internet plug-ins: Allow Plug-ins” checkbox is checked.

  • New itunes crashed my entire system and corrupted itunes folder

Right now I am MAD AS ****.
I started iTunes and was told there was a new version available. Like a sucker I installed it. My iTunes folder and library with hundreds of hours of music is corrupted and the library shows up as blank. I tried uninstalling iTunes, but the new version leaves traces and when I install version 4.9 it won`t install because it finds elements of the new version. Even clicking on the iTunes library folder which is on a seoparate drive crashes my system. Now what Apple genius is responsible for this distaster!!!! And who at Apple is going to help me with this problem. Better question: Who at Apple even cares!
Can you tell I`m upset. Does anyone check the updates before sending them out to the field. %$?&*$!

OK, calm down, take a deep breathe. Ok, now that thats out of the way, please tell me exactly what happen with details so we can try to help you out.
Unfortunately, a majority of these download issues are actually Windows issues, not Apples. With that aside, as much info you can will be helpful along with what Windows OS you are running.

  • Ethernet disk and corrupted files

    Hi to all,
I´ve recently bought a LaCie Ethernet MiniDisk and I copied some files in it, but when I copy them back to the G5 HD, I have found that the OS tell me that they are UNIX files and I can´t open them with any aplication.
How can I link this files with the original aplication? I´ve tried "Open with ..." but the application doesn´t recognize the file.
    Sorry about my english.

Your problem is definitely ressoure fork related. Some file types save information in the ressource fork inside the file. File systems familiar with that do not have problems, like HFS (=Mac OS Standard) or HFS+ (=Mac OS X Extended). Other file systems do not "know" of this ressource fork ad therefore it's often lost. FAT32 would be an example for such a file system. Very often USB sticks or external FireWire/USB hard drives come preformatted with FAT32. So in order to use them with such files it's neccessary to format them as Mac OS (Extended).
Since your drive is acting like a networked file server you only see "AppleShare" as the format. I don't know the particular drive you're using, but look in its manual for some way to configure it, so that you can reformat its drive. If that's not possible, I'd return the drive and get a common FireWire drive where this is no problem.
You mentioned that your files don't have extensions. In case that's true and they're not just hidden (can be checked by command+i) they definitely contain information in the resource fork resulting in the unix style icons you see now.
If you find no way to reformat the drive and want to keep it anyways you can always archive your files before you copy them over. You can do so by using OS X's builtin ZIP. That way the resource fork information won't get lost as long as you unzip the file on a Mac file system.
For more info on resource fork see:

  • OSB 10.1.0.0 on AIX crashes the entire system during an rman backup to tape

    Hi,
I have here two AIX 5.3-07 systems with Oracle 10.2.0.2 and 10.2.0.3 on it. After installing Oracle Secure Backup for AIX I tried an online backup with rman. During the rman backup the entire AIX system crashes and reboots.
I can reproduce this on both AIX machines. If I'm using only obtar to backup some files it works out of the box. On the 10.2.0.2 system I've initial installed a 10.2.0.1 database. With this installation I was able to make online backups without any crashes.
Just before I open a tar I want to ask if someone has any hints?

  • Photoshop CS4 has started crashing my entire system

Hey there, hopefully I can find a solution here that doesn't involve a full system dump and reinstall.
Photoshop started crashing on my today but not just the App - it takes down my whole system forcing me to do a "hold the power button for 5 seconds" shutdown and restart. The first crashes were when trying to convert a medium complexity selection into a work path. Then. after giving up on that even just opening an image, converting it into a layer so I could use the transform tool. As soon as I hit "cmd-T" the app locks and the system crashes forcing me to reset via the power button.
Nothing has changed, I haven't installed anything, downloaded anything, nothing at all. I'm on an iMac running the full master collection, Intel, maxed out RAM......CS4 has been running flawlessly since installation up until this. (Installed a few months ago). I reinstalled Photoshop from the disks but same thing happened.
    Help?

    Chris Cox wrote:
I've got a 4870 in my MacPro (here at home, the one I'm typing on now) - and zero crashing with OpenGL on.
It is good to know that it's working well on your system, Chris.  Any suggestions for those of us who are having a problem?  Since we know it's neither universal nor isolated, what's the next step in diagnosing? I have no idea how to start nailing down what's at the root of the problem, but would really like to solve it -- or at the very least, help Adobe and/or Apple figure out what might be going on.
And if your symptoms are not EXACTLY the same as the original poster in a topic
: please start a new topic instead of adding confusion to the current topic.
Okay, sure, I didn't know that's how this forum works. Some forums prefer that you not make a new topic for every single issue or question if it's possibly related to another one already being discussed.  I'll gladly restart this as a new one if you think that's best at this point, or maybe an admin can split it off since it's grown already. Sorry about that.
(Just as a delicate side note: I'm sure it can be extremely frustrating reading tons of complaints by anonymous folks, many of which are off base and impolitely worded. I don't envy the position at all, especially if I were one of the creators of a product as amazingly powerful, intelligent, and elegant as Photoshop.  But for anyone representing Adobe in any way, it may be a good idea not to simply accuse a polite poster of "adding confusion," without at least politely apologizing for misreading/mischaracterizing the poster's post.  My post itself was indeed perfectly clear about what was crashing. A simple, "Sorry I misread your post; for clarity, we prefer that you start a new topic so different issues don't get confused," etc. would be great. Sure, a really minor thing, but it may help keep people happy with the company instead of thinking they're a little rude or dismissive. I sincerely appreciate your posting here.)
Anyway, as I finished typing this I saw your last reply to Brizdale (via email alert). So, is there any way for us to diagnose whether it's a driver or hardware issue? Or do we just have to wait for -- apparently -- Apple?  Or AMD?
    Thanks again.

  • Photoshop CC crashes my entire system - Mac. Why?

I had Photoshop CC running fine until I updated the extension manager. From there on out, it locks up my whole computer and I have to reboot. I have reverted to Photoshop CS6 and it works fine. All other CC apps work fine.
I have uninstalled Photoshop CC using the uninstaller file in the app folder, then reinstalled using CC tool.  Same results.
Is there another way to reset or re-install photoshop cc that might take care of this issue?

I was able to open Photoshop CC on the root account.
Ultimately, removing the Preferences folder did the trick: <user>/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CC Settings
( couldn't easily see which pref to remove that related to the Exchange menu panel)
I tried removing com.adobe.Photoshop.plist  but that didn't solve anything.
What seemed to be the issue, was the Adobe Exchange extension panel. I had previously only disabled it, but after uninstalling it, the panel would keep drawing on screen and that was the last thing Photoshop would do before locking up the entire computer.
    Thanks for your help.
Attaching a screenshot of the Exchange menu panel - which looks odd, is it perhaps for CS6? I am not going to try and open that extension again to find out.

  • Bluetooth crashing the entire system?

    Hi,
Twice in the past two days, my Pbook 1.33GHz has frozen entirely. I can't be sure it's a kernel panic, but everything freezes, the displayed time does not move (over 30 minutes passed), the external keyboard and mouse don't work, and the only response I get is the Caps Lock key light works. The screen remains as if nothing had happened (I get no "screen of death") - just suddenly stops responding. The first time, I did a hard shutdown (hold Power for 5 secs); second time, I did a hard restart (CTRL-CMD-Power). After the second time, I logged in as the administrator user, and got a "Your Mac was restarted after OS X unexpectedly quit" message. I submitted a report to Apple - which unfortunately I didn't copy for myself. I glanced at the report, and noted that it involved several Bluetooth components.
The first time the system crashed, I had been having trouble with a bluetooth headset a couple hours before. But everything went fine for a while; I even put the computer to sleep. Walked away, came back, the Pbook re-awoke itself but completely frozen.
The second time it crashed, I was just reading thru a website in Camino. A bluetooth keyboard was connected and paired (an iFrog keyboard). Then suddenly the system stopped responding.
This has never happened before; my system is normally very stable. Could it be 10.4.8? Also, anyone know how to retrieve crash/panic logs so I can post them for you to see? Thanks!

  • Occasionally (but not always), opening Firefox freezes/crashes my entire system. Why is this? Win7 64bit

Every few uses of Firefox, I click the icon to open the program, and my system freezes. Ctrl+Alt+Delete does nothing, Ctrl+Shift+Esc does nothing. The mouse won't move, keyboard non-functioning. I have to do a hard reset of my system (hold power button until it shuts off, restart). No crash report is generated/shown/submitted, probably because my computer freezes before Firefox can even open.
This does not happen with any other program, only Firefox. Running Windows 7 64-bit.
I have to fill out this form on Internet Explorer, because now after restarting my computer firefox won't open at all, regardless of which icon i click.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.
