Lightroom 4 NEF files/D5100 - fully loaded preview image dark

Hi Team,
I shoot in raw (NEF) with a Nikon D5100 and I notice that when the preview fully loads, it loads much darker than what is showing for the preview while it is loading.  Does anyone know why this might be?  The image I'm seeing while the image is loading in Lightroom is the image I want to work with, not the darkened image that is showing after the image preview fully loads.
-photorobot2010

The image that you see while LR is loading your picture is the JPEG that is embedded in the raw file by the camera. LR replaces it with its own preview which it renders from the raw data. Probably you have Active D-Lighting set in your camera's menu. That causes the image to be underexposed, and then boosted when the JPEG is created. LR ignores ADL, so you'd be better off setting it to "off".

    Thank you for your response.
    I have loaded directly into Lightroom using import and via Nikon Capture NX2. RAW files display fine in Capture.
    In Lightroom, blank previews are created for each available image, with the message "Preview unavailable for this file."

  • I have NEF files that won't preview in Bridge CS6

    I shot two D3s last night and downloaded both cards.  One the NEF files preview like normal and the other has NEF files that won't preview but open in Photoshop just fine.  Anyone know why they won't preview?

    You could try purging the Bridge Cache it may be messed up.  Edit>Preference>Cache>Purge Cache

  • CS6 Indesign files not fully loading

    I have just purchased CS6 and created a few InDesign files. Now, on numerous occasions, when I try to open an existing file (not just one particular file), the file doesn't fully load. It shows some of the frame outlines and the graphic "content grabber", but all graphics and text do not load. While this is still trying to load, I can open another InDesign file (within the same ID session) and it's usually OK. Meanwhile the file I tried to open originally still won't load, and if I try to go back to it (or close it), the program stops responding. It doesn't do this every time I open Indesign, but at least 50% of the time.
    I have reinstalled CS6, recreated preference files, follwoed every step of the "damaged file" help, but still no resolution. Any ideas please? To add to the scene, I did initially download a trail of InDesignCC, but when I purchased CS6, I uninstalled CC and use the Adobe Cleaner tool. Could this still be having an impact, and if so, how does one completely remove all tracse of the CC version?

    Hi Peter
    I think I may have eventually stumbled upon something ...
    I installed CS6 on my laptop to see if I would get the same problems. Initially I didn't, but did keep getting messages on opening file re embedded profile mismatch. All was OK when I just clicked OK, but when I went to switch the messages off (so indesign stopped asking question), the error returned. So I went back to my main PC, reset my preferences file to reset defaults again. As with laptop, I again got the embedded profile mismatch message and all the while I clicked OK, previous problem files, opened fine. So I thought I would try to chnage the embedded profile in a file, then save it - when I then tried to open the file again, I got the problem again!
    For your info, my Indesign working space/profile is set to sRGB IEC6etc and the document was embedded with Adobe RGB. There was also a mismatch on the CMYK settings.
    Does any of this help point in the right direction?
    thank you.

  • Ipod classic mp3 files not fully loading

    Hi,
    I have two iPod classics, one 80gb, the other 160gb.  Having loaded up my music on the more recent 80 gb, mpeg audio files, 192kbps, some 12,000 odd songs, I have noticed some songs have not fully loaded.  They play to a point, end and we move on to the next song.  Having checked one particular song, I notice that it is also truncated in my older 160gb pod. I have tried a restore and reload on one pod ut that has not changed anything.  The song is complete and plays so in iTunes on my Mac.  Any suggestions?

    That sounded logical B-rock and I followed your instructions in this fashion:
    1. I deleted the track from iTunes and synced my iPod.
    2. Subjected it to MP3 Validator and got the little ping of goodness.
    3. Added the track to iTunes
    4. Re-synced my iPod
    Now, I played the track first in iTunes and it played fully, then played it on my iPod and it cut off at exactly the same time as previoiusly. All this is getting frustrating.

  • How can I load preview images into an extra file?

    Hi,
    I've got a question concerning those preview images. I wrote a plugin which uses the actual paths of the photos in the catalog an stores those paths of each photo into a log file. Then an external program has access to that file for further handling. So now I would like to use preview photos instead of the raw images. First, because the user might want to use the picture he/she edited with Lightroom; And then because of the size.Processing a preview image of level 5 would be more efficient than the original photo.
    So how can I get those preview photos? And more important: is it possible to store them in an extra file in a jpg format for instance, so that an external program can make use of them?

    Look at source code in PreviewExporter plugin.

  • Some .gpx files not fully loading in Aperture 3

    I use the MotionX GPS iPhone app to create a .gpx file which I can import into Aperture 3. Some of the files do not completely display the tracked route despite multiple attempts. I have uploaded the same track to Facebook and it does display the entire track.
    Does anybody have any insight into troubleshooting this issue?

    I don't know about the iPHone and MotionX, but on my Garmin Forerunner, I noticed that if I hit the lap button (and maybe the waypoint button), then Aperture imports the whole .gpx file but splits it into multiple tack files for each section of the whole course (which can be selected in the GPS menu).

  • Preview problem with NEF files in Lightroom 3.3 from d7000

    Lightroom 3.3 (with XP) states in import screen for NEF files from my d7000 "Preview unavailable for this file", and "could not read preview" when I double click on image to bring it to full-field view. Any hints?  Thanks.

  • NEF Nikon D5100 - displaying too dark in LR

    I just bought a Nikon D5100.
    While importing the NEF files, LR firstly shows the images with the correct exposition (equal to the ones previewed in camera), then two seconds after (after fully rendering the image) LR darkens the images, so that they seem underexposed by 1 or  2 stops.
    I was using LR 3.4, then I updated to 3.5 and later on to 3.6 and in every version the same happened.
    The same pictures viewed in ViewNX2 appear with the correct parameters. So, I believe that LR does not read the camera adjustments?
    The JPG images are also shown with the correct parameters.
    Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
    Thank you.

    Using ExifTool to examine the shooting parameters of each example photos posted, here, it appears that both the Exposure and the Flash were set to Manual mode; hence the term to “operator influenced” because the camera was doing what it was told by the operator rather than using its own metering.  Exposure Compensation only has an effect if camera metering is controlling the exposure.  In M mode, the value is merely being recorded but not utilized.

    For reference, ExifTool can be downloaded from:
    http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/
    and can be used by dragging and dropping an image file onto the EXE that is renamed exiftool(-k).exe
    For a friendlier interface, something like ExifGUI can be used:
    http://u88.n24.queensu.ca/~bogdan/
    In summary, if the EXIF information is to be believed, these images are dark because the camera was being told to shoot with settings to dark for the other lighting.  Does this sound right, or did you use the camera and/or the flash in TTL mode, which should have allowed the camera and/or flash to make things bright enough with more motion or focus blur as the shutter became slower or the aperture became wider.

  • How do I script SWF files instead of JPG files in XML loader?

    I have a SWF loader (greensock.com platform) and a thumbnail image scroll underneath it made of small image buttons. Each image button has a link which loads a new SWF file into the SWF loader above. Here is the code for each button which loads the bigger SWF file into the loader above:
    Button3.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, Button3_PlayPopUp);
    function Button3_PlayPopUp(event:MouseEvent): void {
        //setting the sourceVar
        sourceVar="3.swf";
        //making the SWFLoader load
        //as setting the soureVar after the SWFLoader is created won't do anything unlesss
        //I also re-create the SWFLoader with the new sourceVar when the button is clicked
        loader_howToLoader2.url = sourceVar;
        loader_howToLoader2.load(true);
    Then I decided to load all button via XML loader. I followed the tutorial on XML loaders which deals with loading jpg images and assigning URL links to them in the following manner first in XML file:
    <image src="appThmb_imgs/appThmb_imgs117x175/A-illuminatorUpLit_117x175.jpg" title="UpDownGlowingVase" url="http://www.888acolyte.com"/>
    and then in AS3 like this:
    var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    thisOne.link = imageList[item].attribute("url");
    function clickScrollerItem(e:MouseEvent):void {
    //trace("clicked item " + e.currentTarget.itemNum + " - visit url: " + e.currentTarget.link);
    var urlRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest(e.currentTarget.link);
    try {
    navigateToURL(urlRequest);
    catch (e:Error) {
    // handle error here
    trace(e);
    My question is: How do I apply the code to each individual small thumbnail button to load a bigger image into the SWF loader above? Do I have to add something to XML file or this way it will never work with jpg images? Can url in XML file set the source var (//setting the sourceVar), since they are all individual and then somehow apply the making SWL loader to load part (//making the SWFLoader load) as a standard somewhere in the AS3 code?

    O.K. Here is my COMPLETE function.
    xmlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, LoadXML);
    function LoadXML(e:Event):void {
        trace("xml load complete");
        xmlData = new XML(e.target.data);
        //trace(xmlData.image); //we'll see each image xml element listed in the output panel with this xmlList
        buildScroller(xmlData.image); //rather than trace the xmlList, we send it to our buildScroller function
    //build scroller from xml
    function buildScroller(imageList:XMLList):void{
        trace("build Scroller");
        //var scroller_x:int=0;
        for (var item:uint = 0; item<imageList.length();item++) {
            var thisOne:MovieClip = new MovieClip();
            //thisOne.img_width=imageList[item].attribute("width");
            //outline
            var blackBox:Sprite = new Sprite();
            blackBox.graphics.beginFill(0xFFFFFF);
            blackBox.graphics.drawRect(-1, -1, 86, 128);//-1,-1 places rectangle 1px left and up.86, 128 draws rectangle 1px wider on all sides of placed image dimenstions of 84x126
            thisOne.addChild(blackBox);
            //scroller_x += thisOne.img_width + 20;
            //var currentX = currentImageWidth+spaceBetween;//modified line to adjust variable thumb widths
            thisOne.x = (84 + padding) *item;//84 is the width of the loaded images and 15 (which was before paddign var) is the padding
            //thisOne.x = scroller_x;//modified line to adjust variable thumb widths
            thisOne.itemNum = item;
            thisOne.title = imageList[item].attribute("title");
            thisOne.link = imageList[item].attribute("url");
            thisOne.src = imageList[item].attribute("src");
            thisOne.alpha = 0;//makes all thumb images at alpha=0 before they are fully loaded
            //trace(thisOne.itemNum, thisOne.title, thisOne.link, thisOne.src);
            //Loading and Adding the Images
            //image container
            var thisThumb:MovieClip = new MovieClip();
            //add image
            var ldr:Loader = new Loader();
            //var url:String = imageList[item].attribute("src");
            var urlReq:URLRequest = new URLRequest(thisOne.src);
            trace("loading thumbnail "+item+" into Scroller: " + thisOne.src);//url
            ldr.load(urlReq);
            //assign event listeners for Loader
            ldr.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,completeHandler);//tells us when the loading is complete
            ldr.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, errorHandler);//tells us if there are any typo errors when the loading is complete
            thisThumb.addChild(ldr);
            thisOne.addChild(thisThumb);
            //create listeners for this thumb
            thisOne.buttonMode = true;//makes boxes act as buttons
            thisOne.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickScrollerItem);//makes boxes act as buttons
            thisOne.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, overScrollerItem);//traces the title when the mouse is over the bounding box in the Output Panel
            thisOne.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT, outScrollerItem);//traces the title when the mouse is out the bounding box in the Output Panel
            //add item
            scroller.addChild(thisOne);
    But I am not sure if I expressed myself clearly. All what you have indicated happens. Images are being loaded and url strings are working. I can not figure out how to tweek the code so instead of url specified in xml file I can load swf image into the SWF loader on the same screen?

  • CS3 Bridge on Mac won't recognize .NEF files - please help

    Reinstalled CS3 on mac last night per Apple request.
    Re-Install appeared successful, but when I went to Bridge all I saw was generic icons and could not open .NEF files or see their preview.
    So I looked in Adobe help and was advised to install latest plug in for Camera Raw, and did that. Camera Raw 4.6 is the one I chose.
    I received the download for Camera Raw 4.6, but was unable to install it since the file path from the following link does not match a file path I have, or know how to follow, in my computer.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407945.html
    WHen I look in Bridge (Camera Raw preferences) it still says I have the version 4.0 of Camera Raw, but I can locate Camera Raw 4.6 Plug-In on my computer, but can't  locate version 4.0 on my computer.
    I can double click on any raw file in my computer and it will bring me to camera raw, which I can then open in photoshop...but now I can not see a preview of the image because it only shows a generic icon.
    Please help

    Thank you soooo much for your quick responses.  Unfortunately I had already tried both of the suggested options and found that I did not have those file paths available to me.  I have since contacted Apple.  They informed me that I would need to reinstall my OS, that it is not currently installed correctly.  And I am therefore in the process of reinstallation of my OS.  So...once that is complete, will fallow that paths as directed.  If by chance fallowing the suggested paths in order to install the necessary plug-ins works.  I will be off and running.  If not....I will be back and in desperate need of some more help.    So, please stay tuned.  Again, thank you!!!

  • Aperture 2 won't display NEF files

    Hello all -
    Found lots about NEF files here, but not what I'm looking for...or at least hasn't been able to help.
    Running 10.6.8 and Aperture 2.14 (on a Mac Pro - lots of free drive space, 4GB memory)
    When I try to look at NEF files, it says "Loading" for a (long long) while (I can see the thumbnail while it does this) and then says "Unsupported Image Format"
    I have:
    - rebuilt my Aperture Library
    - deleted my com.apple.Aperture.plist file and rebooted.
    Do I need Aperture 3 to see this? I have seen an update for RAW Compatibility, but it refers only to Aperture 3, not 2.x.x
    Thanks!

    You didn't mention which camera's NEF files you were referring to.  This is important because each camera's raw file formats are different.
    If it's a for a Nikon that's come out in the past year or so, Aperture 2.14 won't be able to read it - you'll need Aperture 3.
    Which camera are the NEFs from?

  • Uploaded Flash Page not fully loading

    I created a Flash document that contains 6 hidden FLV files
    that reveal and play with a mouse rollover on respective text. The
    file tests perfectly well. However, when I upload all FLV files, as
    well as the respective SWF and HTML files, and then access the site
    on the web, I can't get all six video files to fully load.
    Sometimes all but two of the video files load, other times only
    three, other times only two. Is this a function of having too much
    data in one Flash document so that my server can't handle it all?
    The 6 FLV files range from a maximum of 12 Mgs, to 4 mg--perhaps 25
    mgs total.

  • Has anyone noticed 9 Horizontal black lines in Nikon V3 NEF files in the shadows?

    Has anyone noticed horizontal black lines in Nikon V3 NEF files, as shown in the image. I have opened the image in Aperture and there are no lines, also tried 2 different computers.

    The lines are there in the raw data, and not something Adobe is doing.
    Here is a screenshot of the central area in RAWDigger raw-analysis software, with things set to stretch the channels much as a high-ISO image would have:
    What I can't tell from the images is if these lines are in optical path, like streaks on the sensor, or if they are added by the process that reads the raw data--read pattern noise.  It is possible that Aperture would have access to "dust delete data" if such a capability exists for the camera and is interpolating around the artifacts or if there is some other reason Nikon software doesn't show them.  I don't know.  You may be able to find information online but rest assured it is a camera issue and not an Adobe issue unless you're asking why Adobe software isn't fixing the problems automatically like Aperture must be doing, and I would guess Adobe doesn't have any way to fix sensor anomalies that aren't more than 1 pixel in size--single hot or dead pixels.
    Unless Nikon can replace or service the camera to remove such things, I don't know what else to suggest.
