Lightroom 5 slideshow problem

Lightroom 5 slideshow
After selecting "Preview" only black screen.
The slideshow don't work.

Hi everyone,
I am also facing this issue (bug?), indeed when choosing:
- Preview
- Play.
The result is quite the same: when choosing "Play" I have a whole black screen; With "Preview" it is the only display area which "freezes". In both cases the only solution is to exit LR5 (using Alt+F4).
I have not experienced the "pretty bicolor" screen.
I can export the slideshow in PDF as well as in JPEG. However trying to "export as video" crashes having the following message "An error of undetremined type occured". It does not depend on the slideshow length (here 13 slides) nor on the resolution (here 480 x 270). (Screen capture included)
LR3 worked perfectly. I have not tested LR4 directly jumping from LR3 to LR5.
My configuration:
- Micrososoft Windows 7 Professional 64bits (SP1)
- Proc: AMD Phenom II x6 1045T
- RAM: 4096 MB
- HD1 (OS): 112 GB (with 18 GB free)
- HD2 (catalogs): 212 GB (with 48 GB free)
- Graphic card: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 (2040 MB) (driver version 9.18.13.783 - 2013/02/19)
- Cache memory (pictures): 50 GB
- Cache memory (video): unlimited
Looking into your configuration I have remarked your graphic card is also an NVIDIA model. Is there a link?
Looking forward to your feedback.

  • Lightroom 5 slideshow problems

I am having display problems in the slideshow in Lightroom 5. lightroom 4 has no problem on the same machine (13"macbook on 107.7.5)
The display goes cloudy and the colors go negative, any help welcome.

I recommend using ShowBiz instead of Lr's impromptu slideshow feature:
    * Starts immediately.
    * Slides are true full-screen (or can/should be).
    * Previews are built asynchronously (i.e. concurrently, while slideshow is playing) and slideshow won't go on to the next slide until preview has been built (unless you explicitly configure it to do so), no never a sub-quality image is displayed, nor ever the "loading..." indicator.
    * Color and quality is "perfect" (unlike Lr's impromptu slideshow feature for some of us, which @Lr5-beta has wonky color/tone).
    * Performance is not tied to number of photos in filmstrip (unless thousands of previews need to be built for them, in which case Lr can start to crawl after a spell).
The other option is to use publishing services and maintain a tree (or flat folder) of all your images at the ready for 3rd party slideshow software (consider TreeSync Publisher for that).

  • Lightroom 5 slideshow music mac

When I select music, I select an m4a audio file for a slideshow, yet lightroom tells me this is not a valid music file. (Same message for various m4a audio files.)

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I don't think this was my problem. Besides the m4a audio file/slideshow problem, Lightroom wouldn't recognize any .mp4 files (which it had been doing). After consulting with Adobe support, I opened a New Catalog, and chose "Import from another catalog" (that other catalog being my old one). Both audio and video issues were fixed. Again, thanks for your help.

I had this same error and managed to get around it by running the .msi file that the CC app downloaded to a temp folder on my own. Steps were:
    1. Find the location Adobe_Lightroom_X64.msi (in a a temp folder)
    2. Run it and install (serial number was already pre-filled out)
    3. Restart the CC desktop app
It then appeared as installed under ‘Your Apps’ and works as usual.

  • Lightroom 4 color problem

I imported tiff images into Lightroom 4 that were scanned by DigMyPics.com.  The color  of the images look good on the Windows 7 photo viewer.  It looks horrible in Lightroom 4.  My monitor is callibrated, the import develope setting is set to "none" , the box is unchecked "apply auto tone adjustments".   I think that the windows viewer is showing the accurate color of the scan and LR is not.  I don't think DigMyPics would send this awful color.  What could the issue be?

Yes, that certainly looks like a problem with the Lightroom rendering. Skin tones and red in general is clearly off, while Windows Photo Viewer looks good.
I'm almost certain this is a problem with the monitor profile. As troubleshooting, try to set sRGB as monitor profile (or Adobe RGB if your monitor is wide gamut), and see if the difference persists. But try to recalibrate first.
    What calibrator and what monitor?

  • "Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo."

    ***** UPDATE July 17, 2013 @ 9:16 am Central Time (UTC -06:00)*****
After Creating a fresh catalog I have been able to clarify the issue a bit. This error appears to only show up in Folders exported as Catalogs. Particularly when I try and open that exported catalog.
I suspect there is a problem with the way Lightroom 5 is exporting these catalogs. I didn't have this issue with LR4.4, but it shows up any time I export a folder as a catalog within LR5, regardless of whether or not it is exported from an upgraded catalog or a fressly created catalog.
It looks like fixing the problem is going to be time consuming, but not impossible. So far I have confirmed that these files - reported as throwing this error by Lightroom 5 ("Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo .... You will not be able to make adjustment to this photo.") - can be imported into a new/existing catalog by multiple methods without carrying over the errors displayed in the exported catalog.
This is frustrating and adds additional steps to my workflow, but isn't undoable. Of course it would be nice if LR5 worked as correctly and exported folders as catalogs without throwing errors when those new catalogs were opened...
Is anyone else seeing this problem when they open catalogs created by "exporting a folder as a catalog"?
    ***** Original Post *****
I'm really confused. I am consistently getting this message on certain exports, but not others...
    When it happens:
    1) "Export this Folder as a Catalog" from a specific folder within my Working Catalog
         Select the location
         Select "Export negative files"
When I open the NEW Catalog - ALL the photos reflect this error message: "Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo .... You will not be able to make adjustment to this photo."
When I go to the Develop tab it displays "There was an error working with the photo" over the photo, but I can edit it... When I close the catalog and re-open it, the changes don't reflect UNTIL I go back to the Develop tab, then the thumbnail will reflect the change. But the system still insists that it has a problem with the file...
    2) The same thing happens when I export the file from my Working Catalog as an image of the same format - be it tif, dng, or psd, or RAW files. Not sure what I was refering to here (can't duplicate today - July 17).
    When it doesn't happen:
When I export the file to the auto import folder for my Portfolio catalog (original format). This seems to work...
Why am I so confused? Because all of these catalogs are located on the same drive (which is different than the drive my Working Catalog is on). When they are auto imported to my Portfolio catalog they seem to work, but everything else throws an error sinse I upgraded to LR5!
    My System:
Windows 7 Pro SP1 (fully up to date) 64-bit
    Intel Core i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz
    Installed RAM: 12.0 GB
My Lightroom 5 Working Catalog doesn't seem to be having any problems...
This problem is frustrating enough that I may go back to LR4. I can't have my archived files compromised...

Suggestion to all who encounter problems like this: if you've installed 3rd party memory cards (ram), go back to your original ram, or at least the brand of ram that your computuer came with.
    Long story, short:
I had the same error message in LR5.  It only happened with several images in a given import.  If I deleted all of the images from the import and reimported the images, a different set of images would have the error message.  The images that originally had the message would no longer have the problem.  I deleted and reimported several times while observing the same behavior.
Not only did lightroom give me issues, but Bridge had problems reading the files, and the previews of the problem images would not show up in Finder (Mac speak).  This ruled out, to me at least, that it was a software issue.  I went out and purchased a new card reader and had the same problems.  I tried a different card with different images and got the same problems.
After I contacted Adobe, they had me upload two files with the error, and they said the files were corrupted due to faulty hardware.  I took my mac book pro (13in early 2011 w/ 10.7.5) to the apple store and they ran a diagnostic test amoung other test and we came up with nothing.  Everything seemed to be good on the hardware side.  After some research the Rep. asked me about my ram (memory cards).  I had in the past installed two 3rd party cards to boost my ram from 4GB to 8GB. The rep. suggested that I go home and test the issue with the original ram my computer came with before we go any farther.  So far, I haven't had any issues.
    I hope this helps,
    Josef

  • Lightroom 5 slideshow shows a black screen

Not sure who'll be able to help you how, but I work-around my in-Lr5 slideshow problems by using ShowBiz plugin.

  • Lightroom Preview Cache Problem

I am running Windows 8.1.  When I start Lightroom 5.3, I get a dialog saying "Lightroom encountered a problem reading from it's preview cache and needs to quit."  Tried reinstalling.  Can't get past this.

Agree about deleting previews.  This doesn't cause any problems.  If Lightroom can't find a preview when it wants one, it simply recreates it.  The only penalty is that accessing images in Library Module may be a bit slower for a while.

  • Lightroom Corrupt Catalog problems- Help!

Lightroom Corrupt Catalog problems reading/writing from disk when attempting to repair - Help!  I have my LR box in hand and my product keys and license info but can't find the disk. I'm assuming this is the only way to repair.  Suggestions, Comments are welcome and appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!!!

Corrupt catalog will not be fixed by re-installing the Lightroom software (although if I were you, I'd still find that disk!)
If I were you, I would first check a recent backup of your catalog file, and see if that will open (double-click on it in your operating system). If that opens properly, I would just use that file.
If it doesn't open properly, then one trick that sometimes works is to open a blank catalog in Lightroom, then File->Import from Another Catalog and point to the catalog file.
And if that doesn't work, please write back with a lot more details, including operating system, version of Lightroom, and much more detail abou

  • Lightroom cc slideshow sync issues

I created a lightroom cc slideshow which includes watermarks, text, music, pan and zoom, etc.
I have the slideshow synced with my account. I can see the slideshow synced on my ipad and web.
When viewing the synced slideshow on the web and my ipad, , none of the slideshow features are included. There are no watermarks, no text, no music,  no pan and zoon etc.  The slideshow looks exactly like any other collection.
Is there a way I can view the synced slideshow so that it plays as in LR CC on my computer?
    Is this a feature limitation?
    Thanks,
    -Bob

You can only sync the photos in the collection, not a Slideshow, Book etc that you may have crated from same on your desktop. So, yes it's a feature limitation. If you want the slideshow to run on your iPad you'll need to first export it as a movie file from Lightroom then import on to the iPad.

  • Please help with slideshow problems!

Am using Photoshop Elements 8 and trying to make a slideshow. Have tried 4 times now and keep ending up with same problem, cannot reopen project to continue edititing.  Won't show up in orginizer and when I find on harddrive and try to open get message " wmv file cannot be opened".  How can I save a
slideshow inprogress and be able to reopen and continue to edit and make slideshow?  I want to thank anyone who can help me with this in advance as I
have gotten so frustrated that I want to just scream.
    Thanks

Thanks for the help, thought I had done so but maybe not.  Anyway will have another go at it, now may I ask another
question?  I am trying to add audio to slideshow.  I have some music I purchased thru amazon as mp3 files but I get
message no codec and when I try to add wmv I get same message.  What type of file do I need and how can I add
multiple songs to one slideshow.   I have one little wmv file that will go in, but it just replicates itself multiple times until
    it fills slide show.
Thanks again, sorry to be a bother, but this thing is driving this old man crazy.

You need to save the slideshow project in order to be able to go back later and make changes or additions to an existing slideshow . The wmv file is a final output format.
Now you are most probably using only the Output command: that is what makes the wmv file.
You should also do the Save Project command. (and I make it a practice to do the Save Project command before I do the Output command).
If you look at the Elements Organizer 8 Help, there is a topic on "Create a slide show".
-- Very close to the beginning of that topic is a screen shot of the Sldie Show Editor screen,
-- The bar below the usual menu bar is labeled with a "B" and called the Shortcuts bar.
-- The 1st entry on that Shortcuts bar is "Save Project"
It is the Save Project command that saves the information about which photos, audio, etc you placed in that specific slide show so that you can come back again to do subsequent editing.  Save each Project with a unique name.
After completing the Save Project command, you shoud see an "icon" in the Organizer for that slide show.
Note:  you must also keep the photo files and audio files which you have used in this slide show: you can't delete them because the project file does NOT contain a copy of the photos, it only has the identification and folder location of the photo and audio files.

  • Lightroom 6 slideshow que problem

Adobe LR CC 6.0 on Windows 8.1 64 Bit. I use LR slideshow to produce  short .mp4 slideshow videos. With v5.7.1, I could create a number of short videos and often have several in the que for rendering. Never a problem.
Installed LR 6 CC and now its broken. I can que a single slideshow and it will render without problem, but if I que more than one slideshow, the first is rendered without problem and all subsequent slideshows in the que are "rendered" but broken. For example, the first will have a size of 300 MB and the remaining in the que will have a size of 20-30 MB when complete. As expected only the first will run..
Has anyone else had this problem? How do I fix?
For the short term, I just que one "Export Video" at a time. Works but requires constant attention.

Hi, I am having exactly the same issue, did you ever find out what it was ?

  • Lightroom Beta 3--Slideshow Problem

I am unable to change the order of the slides/images in Slideshow. I can drag the images, but the image "snaps back" and the order does not change. "Help" says you should be able to move images if you have a "collection" without a subfolder, and I do not have a subfolder. Any ideas?

    The beta forum is at
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/labs/lightroom3
In general if you are in a collection(but not a smart collection), you should be able to drag and drop images to create a user sort order.

  • Slideshow Problem...

I'm a fairly new user to the Mac world but quite familiar with PCs and I've been using Bridge on my Mac Pro for about a month without any problems. But after doing a MacOS update and an Adobe Lightroom 2 install, Bridge has lost the ability to run a Slideshow successfully.
The action is triggered by Command L as usual but the Slideshow locks up during the first slide and then has to be exited back into the Bridge browser. Is this a known problem or something that can be fixed with a Prefs reset by Option clicking the Bridge icon. Also every time I click on the Preferences button in bridge it quits the application.
My main concern is that I might lose some of my well established picture cache files and settings but if this is the only solution I guess I'll have to consider weather it's necessary. One solution might be to just start doing my photo handling in Lightroom but I'm not as familiar with that app just yet.
    Thanks,
    Graham

    Routine maintenance is imperative.
I still advocate Repairing Permissions (with Apple's Disk Utility) before AND after any system update or upgrade, as well as before AND after installing any software that requires an installer that asks for your password.
I have seen software installations go sour because the installer did not find everything as and where it should be.
I have also seen software installations go bad because the installer did not clean up after itself properly and did not leave everything as and where it should be.
This is just my own personal opinion and practice based on my own observations. Others may disagree and that's OK. I can only base my routines and my advice to others on my own experience and conclusion. I don't pretend to know why others believe otherwise.
Repairing Permissions after the fact (i. e. not immediately before and after an install) seldom helps.; Try it anyway, though.

Additionally, if your machine does not run 24/7 so that it runs the daily, weekly and monthly Cron Scripts in the middle of the night as intended by Apple, run Cocktail (shareware) as well.
Cron Scripts are maintenance routines designed by Apple to run on a daily, weekly and monthly basis in the middle of the night.
If you don't run them, you WILL run into trouble, sooner rather than later.
Here's an excerpt from the Apple tech doc
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107388
Mac OS X performs background maintenance tasks at certain times if the computer is not in sleep mode. If your computer is shut down or in sleep at the designated times, the maintenance does not occur. In that case, you may want or need to run these manually.
Mac OS X periodically runs background tasks that, in part, remove system files that are no longer needed. This includes purging older information from log files or deleting certain temporary items. These tasks do not run if the computer is shut down or in sleep mode. If the tasks do not run, it is possible that certain log files (such as system.log) may become very large.

The disk activity generated by find is a normal part of file system maintenance, used for tasks such as removing invisible temporary files that are used by the system. It is scheduled to occur early in the morning at 03:15 everyday, 04:30 on Saturdays, and 05:30 on the first day of each month.
    NOTE:
There have been comments to the effect that Apple "fixed" this in 10.4.2 and later versions of the OS, but I have not been able to verify this to my satisfaction. The reference in the 10.4.2 release notes are far from explicit on this subject.

  • Lightroom 6 slideshow scrambling photos - how to fix?

This photo is a collage of images just to show what I'm talking about. I've created a slideshow in LR6, and it looks awesome in Preview mode.
However, when I go to Play mode or when I export/save it and watch it in any other player, anywhere from 3-13 of the 20 photos end up looking like this.
The originals are fine, the preview version is fine, and it's not always the same photos if I choose to randomize them.
Is this a known problem? Can I fix it? I didn't have any luck with a search. Thank you!

Hi, I do have exactly the same issue. And I never had that in a previous version of Lightroom. It looks like a bug to me.
