Lightroom to PS CS4

I have two problems at the moment. Since upgrading to CS4 I cannot link to Bridge, the message is "Photoshop unable to find java script plug-in". I can open Bridge from the Applications folder but not from Photoshop. The other problem that has suddenly occurred, I say suddenly because I could get a photo from Lightroom 2.2 to edit in PS CS4 but now I can't. I am running G5 with OS10:5.6 installed.

Try trashing your Bridge, Photoshop and Lightroom prefs..
Have you moved or renamed anything from where CS4 installed it by default?
And have you Repaired Permissions since you installed new software?

This is expected. CS4 will never be able to open files from a current version of LR and a modern camera.

Lightroom Links to CS4 Have CS5 on machine-help

Hi,
My Desktop HPE120f 64bit has both CS4 and CS5 installed. Lightroom links to CS4. How can I have Lightroom link to CS5 64bit? Do I need to uninstall CS4?

Try this:
Open Registry Editor.
Find the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Photoshop.exe key
Replace CS4 with CS5 in every item.

Can't open RAW file when moved from Lightroom to Photoshop CS4

I have a Canon 6D and recently purchased Lightroom 4.4 so that I could open my Canon RAW files. They do open in Lightroom, but when I move them to PHotoshop CS4 I can't open the files. I get a message telling me I can't open them. Any suggestions?

I don't know Macs so can't give you advice if CS6 will run on your Mac.
But since you have Lr5 you won't need to open Raw images in Photoshop. Lr5 gives you all the Raw editing capabilities that you need. I don't think CS6 will add anything to Raw editing capabilities that Lr5 doesn't have - although I don't know CS6 since I am still working with CS5.
You still can send images from Lr5 to CS4 for editing but you have to select <Render using Lightroom> in the dialog that says that the "Camera raw plug-in 8.1 may be required ...". BTW: what this means is that the Camera raw plug-in 8.1 is required for Photoshop, not for Lr.
When you select <Render using Lightroom> Lr will create a TIFF / PSD from the Raw image and send it to CS4 for editing.
If you had CS6 Lr would send the Raw image to CS6 but on saving the edits in CS6 a TIFF / PSD would be created.
The only drawback with using CS4 is that the options <Merge to Panorama ...>, <Merge to HDR ...>, and <Open as layers> will be greyed-out and are not available.
If instead of selecting <Render using Lightroom> in the dialog box you would select <Open anyway>, nothing would happen. CS4 would open but the image would not be displayed in CS4.

Unable to see D800 raw files - using Lightroom 3.6 & CS4

I have just purchased a Nikon D800 and I am unable to see the .NEF files within either Lightroom 3.6 or CS4. Can anyone help me? I have read on other forums that you need to install ACR6.7 but those users were all using newer versions of software. I have downloaded ACR 6.7 - are my programme versions compatible and will LR & Bridge pick up the new version automaticaaly or do I need to do anything? I am running Windows 7.
I'm not sure if this will make any difference but within my camera menu I chose NEF (RAW) recording to be Lossless Compressed.

ACR 6.7 can only be used with PS CS5. You will have to use one of the following options.
1. Use the latest Adobe DNG converter 6.7 to convert your .NEF files to dng (retain a copy of the .NEF's) then you can import into LR 3.6.
2. Consider upgrading to LR 4, you can download the LR 4.1 RC2 and run for the trial period untill the Final LR 4.1 is released.

Lightroom 3 and CS4/CS5

I recently upgraded both LR and Photoshop. I upgraded Photoshop from CS4 to CS5, but I kept CS4 on my machine. I also upgraded LR to LR3 (but did not keep the old LR version). LR3 still uses Photoshop CS4 as the primary Photoshop editor. I'd like to use CS5 as the primary editor. Is there any way around this? Thx.

Also, you might want to install the LR 3.3 release candidate. The release notes claim there's a fix related to this issue:
Lightroom 3 could fail to launch Photoshop CS5 if Photoshop CS4 was uninstalled after the Photoshop CS5 installation
Although LR 3.3 RC is technically a beta, not major bugs have been reported in the two days since it has been released.

Lightroom opens Photoshop CS4 for edit but file doesn't open

I have tried looking for this thread but have not found it... 447 threads are a lot to scan...
When I try to edit a Lightroom 2.3 file in Photoshop CS4 Extended, Photoshop launches but the file does not open (same for all other edit options: layers, pano, etc.) and the follows box appears in Lightroom: "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CS4 could not be launched"...
I have Windows XP Home Edition with SP3... over 3GB Ram... and all current Adobe updates...

Having said that, with a Mac doesn't Camera Raw install automatically from within CS4 by choosing Update from within the Help menu?
Oh, and another thing. If you open CS4, go up to Help, from the drop-down choose About > Camera Raw. If it indicates 5.5 then the raw plug-in is already installed in the correct location. It won't show if it's not installed in the correct location.

Lightroom V2.3 & CS4 Colour Management Inconsistent

I am experiencing colour management inconsistencies between CS4, and Lightroom V2.3. All of my software is up top date, across all applications, including Leopard (10.5.6).
Lightroom V2.3 is not able to render subtle tonality/gradations in the shadows, various shadow areas are blocked-up (almost mild posterization) in comparison to CS4 and ACR V5.3.0.21. On a new Eizo CG241W, images look exceptional (good shadow gradation), and identical, in CS4, and ACR, but not Lightroom.
As an additional test I connected the CG241W to my Mac Book Pro to eliminate any possible hardware errors with my Mac Pro (Intel) - ATI Radeon HD 2600XT (firmware up to date). I suffer from the same Colour management errors via my Mac Book Pro with Lightroom V2.3.
Trashing Lightroom prefs has not resolved the issue. I attach a sample screen grab image crop to highlight the problem. The shadow analysis is best viewed in Photoshops full screen mode to observe the differences - there is barely any recorded to the right of the subject. Please ignore the colours (screen grabs) and examine the foliage in the background. This screen grab is from the same images open simultaneously in CS4 and Lightroom.
My monitor is new and I downloaded the latest drivers, no older drivers have ever been on my system. Lightroom preview settings have been tried on the highest quality setting, just in case...........

Lightroom and photoshop cs4

how do I use the filters in photoshopcs4 with lightroom? I took a photo from lightroom and most of the filters in photoshop were grayed out?

PS CS 4 uses an earlier version of ACR to render files than is used by LR (no process 2010, no lens profiles, none of the new noise reduction). You can open the RAW files into PS CS 4 using ACR in the usual way, rather than using LR, as long as the RAW file is recognised by the version of ACR you have. The advantage you have by opening and rendering using LR 3 is that the process 2010 is now available as the file is rendered by LR. If you want to use files rendered as process 2010 directly in ACR you will have to upgrade to CS 5.
Either way you loose nothing my rendering in LR, irrespective of which version of PS you use. The only difference between rendering to CS 4 from CS 5 is that the new file issaved immediately rather than on save. CS 5 allows you to not save and have no new file. You always require a rendered file for use in PS as it does not directly edit RAW formats.

Lightroom 3.0 & CS4 are they ALSO 64bit

Trojans and bad ju-ju have strucl my XP-pro and a re-format is warranted but since it is a very old OS I am at a juncture: windows-7 32 or 64 bit OS.
Fine and dandy but what happens to the 2 most important programs on my system?
I am running LR3.6 and CS4.....I have the disks but can't find out whether they can be installed on a 32 or 64 or if the programs have to be written for this OS.
Anyone had this decision?

My response clearly answers that question as far as CS4 is concerned - yes, it can be installed on a 64 bit system (I never suggested it runs as a 64 bit app - that's not the question I was answering), and it works perfectly well.

Loading Lightroom 2 and CS4 onto laptop.

I bought the above last March and downloaded it onto my desktop. I now want to load it onto my laptop, but am unable to find a way of doing this. Can anyone help please?

Also, when I try to download LR, Adobe want me to pay for it again. I bought LR 2 and CS4 in March 2009. My understanding is that one is allowed to have it on a laptop and a desktop. So, I have it on desktop but not laptop. Can you advise me on a way of downloading it without paying for it again!!

There are a lot of beautiful Lightroom presets out there, I do not have Lightroom but PS CS4, Is it possible to use Lightroom presets in Photoshop CS4? If so how do I import them ..ie: do I need to change the extension to a filter, action, and lastly which folder do I place them?

Canon Pixma Pro 9000 printer will not print for Lightroom 2.3 or Photoshop CS4

When I hit the print button on either Lightroom or Photoshop CS4 to print using the "front tray", the printer sends a message to lower the tray for the back tray. The Canon tech rep stated that when I hit the Print button on Lightroom or Photoshop there should be "drop down window" which allows me to choose the "front tray". Until I do this, the printer assumes that I am still using the back tray. My question - why doesn't my Lightroom or Photoshop programs display this "drop down window" when I press the "print" button?? Please!! Can anyone help me??

After so many attempts, I don't remember what the display was when I first requested for help. I just trying everything that I
could think of.
I don't think that I downloaded the right Driver the first time. As a last resort, I downloaded the Driver again from Canon and to my surprise, another menu appeared. It was different from the previous ones and rather confusing. The Canon tech had described what I should bd looking for and so I proceeded ahead one drop menu after another and finally the right menu appeared giving me the choice between the automatic back tray and the front tray. After I clicked on the front tray, everything worked fine.
Thanks, Was DYP, for taking time to attempt to help me. It's my opinion that Canon's documentation was not complete and therefore created some confusion.
