Lightroom with HP smartmedia server - mac and pc

Hi Everyone,
I was considering buying a new HP Smartmedia Home Server, but before I did I wanted to make sure I could store my pics and catolog files on the server to be accessed by my mac and PC.
My wife uses my PC to put her photos into lightroom and I use my mac.  I like to be able to merge them into a catalog on the media server so we can both access and edit the pics.
Does anyone have some experience with this server or the previous releases?  There is apparently much better mac support now.
Thanks,
Rob.

HP's Homeservers are great for lots of things but not for what you want to do.  Catalogs still need to reside on the individual machines.  In addition, although your images can be stored on the server, you may find accessing them through Lightroom painfully slow.  Even the more current HP Homeservers are seriously underspec'd as far as performance goes.
I am not suggesting that you should avoid a HP Homeserver - I have last year's model, and it is a great solution for backups, home media storage/shared access, remote web access to files, sharing images on the web, and hosting a personal website (if your ISP allows it). Personally, the backup/restore capabilities alone have made it a worthwhile investment.  It, however, is not really Lightroom friendly for what you want to do.

You can wipe the iPad's contents completely by going to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings. This will remove all of the previous user's apps, data, settings and so on from the iPad and you can set it up as your own.

  • Server returned code (500) with message Internal Server Error and content

    Hi cracks,
I am trying to run the web service
    InternalRequestSRMUpdateRequestConfirmation_In
    an get following error :
Server returned code (500) with message <Internal Server Error> and content type <text/html; charset=utf-8>.
    any idea?

    Vincent

    yes,
you got crash aka shortdump in your system.
    - webserver: didn't crash, because it issued an error 500, so it works
    - remains either the soap runtime, which usually doesn't dump but throw errors and the application itself.
I'd look into the tracefiles (ST11) or tie the debugger to the service in question (SICF) and try to find out hat happens/d.

  • I have the new macbook pro with retina and I am trying to back up with wd passport for mac and is telling me it is going to take 7days

I have the new macbook pro with retina and I am trying to back it up, with wd passport for mac and is telling me it is going to take 7days. Any Ideas? Im afraid that means there is something wrong with my hard drive. I have verified the disk and it says everthing is ok.

It seems to be a common problem that those drives don't perform well, at least not with Time Machine.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Post the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — edit that out, too, but don’t remove the context.

  • Are there any problems with Snow Leopard Server (Xserve) and PPC Clients

    Hi,
are there any problems identified yet with Snow Leopard Server, installed on a Xserve and PPC Clients running Mac OS X Tiger and Leopard?
Currently I have a Xserve Intel running Leopard Server and about 12 Mac Minis PPC running Mac OS X Tiger and Mac OS X Leopard. The Xserve serves services like DNS, OpenDirectory, Software Update Server, NetBoot, etc. All users have Home Directories stored on the Xserve.
Now I want to install Snow Leoaprd Server on the Xserve, but I wonder if there are any problems using the PPC Clients? I have read something like this on a german website.
    Thanks!

We've actually found that the Server 10.6.3 DVD does an amazingly smooth job of upgrading 10.5.8. We've been upgrading our production servers and nothing has gone wrong yet. Snow Leopard employs an archive and install method of upgrading which results in an install which is very close to a clean install. So it's been very convenient for us because our servers are used as Windows PDCs and it's a pain in the *** to have to re-join all PCs to the domain if we start from scratch.

  • How can I make my iPhone sync with iCal on my Mac and not with iCloud?

I live and travel in Africa and wi-fi is frequently a luxury.  iCloud syncing between Mac and my iPhones (a 3GS & 4) is not possible but when I turn iClod off, it deletes the calendar on my Mac.  In another forum it was suggested that you export your various calendars (personal, business etc) to the desktop, log out of iCloud and therefore have your iCal calendar deleted, re-boot to clear anything in the cache, import the calendars which are then on My Mac and sync.  It worked all the way until the last bit.  Syncing the iPhone is clunkingly slow and it only syncs one of my calendars which is the only one that appears in the info dialogue box in iTunes when the iPhone is connected.  Can anyone help?  iCloud is I am sure fine for those who have regular access to wi-fi but not me - I will be happy to go back to my time capsule which has done me well over the years.
    Some advice please

Plug yr iPhone to your compu in the old fashioned way with cable.
Just to cover yourself...select the iPhone in Devices of left pane of iTunes window, then on main pane, select radio button Back up to Computer. Right click on the iPhone in devices, do a backup. It shld then be on your compu'.
Then, back in main windo, select Info 'tab' from top of the right pane, and tick the Sync iCal events.
    I'm sure this will help.
If it all goes pear-shape, u have the backup to restore the pre-sync device.

  • Booklet issues with InDesign CS3 on Mac, and Xerox WorkCentre 7655 booklet maker

I'm having several booklet making issues I'm hoping someone can help me with.
I am on a MacPro, OS X Leopard, InDesign CS3. We have a Xerox WorkCentre 7655 that has booklet making capability. The network server is a PC with Microsoft 2003 server on it.
The booklet I am making uses two 11x17 trays - one for cover stock for the cover and one for regular 24 lb paper for the insides. The layout is single pages rather than spreads - spreads did not work at all.
From InDesign using the printer, the cover pages come out backwards and mirror image. The inside pages are upside down and on only half the page. I did not not InDesign file/booklet because that seemed to create even more problems with the Xerox booklet settings, and I don't know how to try InDesign booklet and not the Xerox settings.
I tried making a pdf and printing booklets from that. On the Macintosh, I can't figure out how to tell it the pages are 11x17 so it keeps giving me an error that the printer is waiting for 8 1/2 x 11.
I actually did get the booklets to print properly using the pdf file and a PC, but any gray graphics came out lilac. The text was black, and the covers were the correct colors - only the inside graphics were the wrong color.
I hope this makes some sense - I really need help. I've tried everything I can think of. I spent a lot of time with Xerox 1st and 2nd level support, and they have washed their hands of this. So I'm posting here hoping someone has some ideas.
Any other information anyone might need for this issue? Thanks so much.

I have a similar machine configuration and have had many issues printing to an HP 9500mfp. Pages rotate, mirror, 2-sided both print on same side. I've lost the "bookletmake" function. Jobs will not recognize paper trays (meaning I have to manually tell it which paper tray holds the tabloid stock). I've tried using the "Page Setup" dialog box to no avail. On occasion, I can get some of the features to work with a pdf printing from Acrobat. Sometimes, that doesn't work either - never with any kind of predictability. Printing to the HP 4700 is more reliable. I've downloaded the updated "Leopard" compatible driver from HP, but it fixed no issues. When I tried contacting tech support for HP, the replied that this is an OS issues and not with equipment, leaving me SOL.

  • Caveman with club defeats ALL .mac and idisk problems!

Well, I'm pretty proud of myself. Like many others after upgrading to Leopard, had myriad .mac and idisk problems including, but not limited to: couldn't mount idisk on desktop, can't enable syncing of .mac on various computers, couldn't register a computer. I tried the log out, log in option in .mac. Also tried removing the syncservices folder from Home>Library>Application Support folder. I also tried reinstalling the system from a download of 10.5.1 udpate, repairing permissions, and every other trick I read about on the discussion forum. The ultimate solution for me? Open Keychain Access application in the Application>Utilities folder, show all the items and delete every item with '.mac' in it! Restarted computer, now idisk mounts fine, login to .mac works fine, and syncing works perfectly and I can register the previously unregisterable computer. While I have no logical explanation for this, because I don't understand enough about the Keychains to say why it worked, it clearly fixed the problem. Syncing has happened fine, using idisk is fine and all is well! Oh yes, I had a backup of my computer to an external drive before proceeding with my various interventions. Best of luck and don't be afraid to swing your caveman club wildly in the dark... you just might hit something worthwhile

I'm having exactly ONE of the problems Joshua lists here ... my iDisk will not mount to my desktop. All else works fine with my iDisk.
I don't see any responses to the original post. Help anyone?

  • Importing a pkg with rely on server storage and roles for access control

Hi we run std 2008 r2.  I'm reading documentation on prot levels during pkg import to catalog at
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms141747(v=sql.105).aspx but unfortunately the definition of prot level "rely on server storage and roles for access control"
isn't clear.  They used the prot level name to define it which didn't help me.
This option looks appealing but it isn't clear why I need to enter a pswd when choosing this option.  Will my peers need to know that pswd when they export?  Will the sql agent job need to present that pswd when running?  If I just keep current
prot level "encrypt with user" will the agent job be able to run it?  I'm sure it (agent) isn't running with my creds now.  Also, how can I tell what prot level it was deployed with last?  I rt clicked on the pkg in the catalog
and don't see anything obvious about that.  I already understand that on export prot level is changed to encrypt with user.
I'm going to look at the sql agen job right now to see what creds it runs with.

First thing to understand is that protection level is used for determining how package (dtsx) file have to be protected. Once package is deployed in server and executed from agent, the conventional way is to use method of configurations or parameters if
2012 to get required connection etc values and execute using it. It never uses the values that were set during the design time. So it doesnt matter what protection level was so far as its based on config
However if you're planning to export existing package to your system and do modification thats where protection level comes to play. If its set to any of ENcryptSensitive... type value then you'll to provide the value (either a passowrd or your userkey which
it takes automatically from login info) to see the sensitive info (connection info, passwords etc) The package will still open and so far as you manually type in missing values you will be able to execute the package. If protection level is set to one of ENcrptAll
then you will have no way to open package itself unless you provide password/ have correct userkey.
The rely on server storage option uses sql server security context itself ie it doesnt do any encryption within package by itself but will assume values based on sqlserver security. This is used when you store package itself in SQLServer itself (MSDB)

  • Getting iCal to sync with iCloud for two Macs, and a 3G iPhone

I currently have a Macbook and MacMini both running 10.7.2, and just started using iCloud this week to sync contacts, iCal, bookmarks, etc. I thought I initially had problems with iCal as I was getting two copies of every event showing up on my MacBook, but then realized I had two sets of calanders, ("on my mac" and "iCloud"). After I unchecked the "on my mac" calanders, everything appeared normal.
The problem I face now is with my 3G iPhone that can't run iOS5, and thus, no iCloud. My iCal on my iPhone is set to sync with my "on my mac" calanders, so with those unselected, the events are not showing up on my Macbook, and thus, aren't being synced to my MacMini.
My question is, can I have my 3G iPhone sync to my iCloud calanders everytime I connect it to my Macbook to sync via USB, instead of syncing with the "on my mac" calanders as it is currently doing without have iOS5 capabilities on my iPhone? If not, is there a way to have iCloud keep syncing with my "on my mac" calander list, so that it is always up to date, and data from my iPhone will be synced over to my iCloud calander list from the "on my mac" calander list?
I'm just trying to figure out if I'll be able to transfer new iCal dates I create on my 3G iPhone over to my iCloud calander list, and ideally, vice versa.
Thanks in advance for the help.

I understand that iCloud won't run on it or with it. I'm just trying to figure out if there is a way to sync the "on my mac" calanders (which sync to my iPhone iCal everytime I connect via USB) continually with my iCloud calandars so the two are always up to date.

  • Apple id with multiple users of Macs and  device with ML

If a  house has three Macs, (John' and, Jan's MacBook Pros and. A MacBook Air (to share)) An iPhone and ipad each.
If we have use same Apple ID for music, apps etc. will all notifications of each others mail etc get sent to all macs and devices?
While using Pages etc. will each others documents turn up on other's machine and devices?
Is there a manual that addresses such issues.
OR do the two have to have two appleids and payout for applications twice?
    Hope this makes sense

You can use different Apple ids for iTunes and iCloud in the same account. That way you can share purchases while keeping the documents and messages separate. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4895 for instructions on setting it up.

  • Should I concern myself with antivirus programs for Mac and iPhone?

Should I concern myself with antivirus software?  I have both Mac desktop, MacBook Pro and iPhone 6+ and since there has been some hacking, I want to make sure everything's safe

From my experience any AV software on Apple equipment stands a much greater chance of causing problems then offer any sort of protection. For this reason, I say that you are best served by avoiding them.
If you are the least bit sensible about where you go on the web and where you get your downloads from, you should be safe. A good site to read about sites to avoid using for downloads is http://www.thesafemac.com/boycott-cnets-download-com/
