Limit Concurrent Users

Hello,
Is there a way on EP6 to limit concurrent user sessions.  For example, user "JoeSmith" is not able to logon to more than 2 session of the Portal.
We are running EP6 Patch4.
thanks,
Harman

Interesting thought. I guess if there is way, it has to be thru the authentication module. So IMO write a new JAAS module for authentication and before you authenticate the user, apply your criterion and if successful log the user in.
This is would be all custom code. I don't think there is a out of the box way available.

  • Limit concurrent user logins

    Hi all,
One of our customers is trying to limit the number of concurrent user logins to 1.
He has deployed a 2500 WLC (v7.4) with a Dot1x SSID. Authentication against external radius server (IAS).
    Configured the following:
Max Concurrent Logins for a user name: 1
But doesn't work despite of the value configured in "Max-Login Ignore Identity Response" option (enable|disable).
My doubt here is if that these parameters just work when we are using local authentication or if it could be a bug with this particular software train.
I've found contradictory info regarding this particular topic.
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Alberto

    Hi Saurav,
    Thanks for the info provided.
Our problem here is that despite the value of max-login-ignore-identity-response (enable|disable) we always can establish multiple simultaneous connections with the same username credentials.
Does Max Concurrent Logins for a user name work with external radius authentication? Are we missing something else?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Limit the number of concurrent users

Is it possible to limit the number of concurrent users for the application in Websphere or at the http management level?

You don't say what version of Websphere you are using, but here's how you might limit the number of sessions in Websphere 4.0 Advanced Edition (other versions may differ):
Open the Administrative Console. Go down the tree to Nodes, Application Servers and click on the server you want to control (likely Default Server). In the right panel, click on the Services tab. In that panel, click on the Session Manager Service and click the Properties button. That pops up a new dialog.
Select the Advanced tab here. Put a number in the Maximum in-memory Session Count field and uncheck the Allow Overflow checkbox. Click OK, etc, etc, and you'll probably have to restart Websphere.
I said "might" because I don't know if this will do what you want or not. Read the help file associated with that dialog and judge for yourself.

  • Maximum Number of Concurrent User Sessions Limit?

Please can you tell me if there is a limit for the maximum number of concurrent users sessions that can access the Portal? If so, where is the setting and how do I change it?
By the way, I am not experiencing any issues; I am asking purely for information purposes
    Thanks.

There used to be under one of the services in service configuration.  I thought it was under portal runtime, but I can´t see it now.  It mentioned it in the TZTEP1 course, but I haven´t got it with me.
Having said that, I don´t know if it worked!

  • ESS/MSS limit of concurrent users

    Hi,
I have to implemantation the ESS/MSS in sap with SOA. I would like to know : How many users will be accessing ESS at the same time? In particular, how many should be the concurrent users ( to do the same activity ) will be accessing ESS , to ensure the  server response doesn't deteriorate? ( Side web frontend )
    Thanks a lot,

    hi.
i tried to draw a picture with a typical ess scenario. from the browser to the abap backend.
it's not too sharp but i think you will see what i mean.
    [ESS Scenario|http://picasaweb.google.at/lh/photo/bHbfx56fo1y3mfo6w2e_Tw?feat=directlink]
You see that you need lots of infrastructure. All parts need - more or less - resources. If there is heavy load you need more cpu and ram (for example adding more server processes on the as java of the portal) but you also have to configure the web dispatchers, the as java, the as abap (icm). Thats the architecture for the ess service. It doesn't help when asking "how many people can call a time sheet on abap". you have to look at all components...
If i were you and i do not know lots about the load i would start conventional (not completely oversized). It's a process to get a well performing system. You always have to make corrections when running productive. thats the job we love :o)))

  • Maximum number of concurrent users that can connect to a SQL DB

I see various SQL DB plan S0, S1, S2 and P1, P2 and P3.  Each one of them talk about DTU's but never talk about the max number of concurrent users.  Where can I find that number and is it configurable by the end user?

It is the maximum connection that is most important. Best practice is not to have users holding on to their connection for long period of time. Maximum user connection in SQL is 32767, resource permitting. Not sure for Azure SQL. If you follow best
practice, you are not supposed to hit this limit cause other limits will be hit first.

  • Scalability in BlazeDS - What is the maximum number of concurrent users possible with BlazeDS?

    Hi all,
is there a limit on the number of concurrent users that can connect via BLAZEDS? I see many places that it is only in 100s and not in 1000s.
is that true? Anybody has doen performance testing on that?
    Thanks
    Kiran

What is practical? Probably between 1 and 6 streams can be done with reasonable use of bandwidth. However, keep in mind that you will likely want to use the lowest quality setting for cameras so they are demanding the least amount of bandwidth.
Using the Connect 8 numbers, Low quality webcam video with the room at LAN settings should have an aprox average bandwidth consumption of 184 kbps. From there it is just simple math. 6 live streams at that setting will be 1.1 Mbps. Alternatively, at High quality webcam video and with the room at LAN, each stream will average aprox 501 kbps. 6 streams will average 3 Mbps.

  • ISE limitation for concurrent user (same user)

    Dears,
I have cisco ISE 3355 version 2.0.4.018 my question is how can I limit the authenticated user to access only two devices by his username and password.
where I have cisco ISE integrated with AD for internal employee that access internal SSID and I need to limit employee access for two devices only (PC and Phone)
    So anyone can help me??
    Regards,

The current ISE release 1.1 doesn't have a feature that allows to limit of concurrent user sessions (either Guests or regular 802.1x users) as the ACS 5.3/5.4 does. However, I guess this feature is scheduled for release, ISE 1.2

  • Running Apps 11i on Linux with 200 concurrent users

    Hi,
Is there anybody out there running a large apps 11i installation (with the
database and middle tier) on Linux ?
We are currently running 11.5.9 Apps with a 9.2 database on Sun kit but I'd
like to investigate Linux/Intel as we are planning to replace our hardware.
We have about 200 concurrent users, with a total of 1800 registered users, using
    Financials, i-Procurement and HR.
    Thanks
    Tony Vallis

Having worked extensively on Linux, its true that is is limitied in 32 bit mode to addressing a few GB of memory for each application (It is at least better than windows with its 2/3GB limit), although you can play around with it and memory windows to get more out of it for the database tier.
We have used 1 * 6650 with 8GB RAM running AS 2.1 DB Tier
and 2 * 2650 with 8 GB RAM ruuning AS 2.1 Apps Tier with conc mgrs too.
This was with 11.5.10 and it comfortabley supported 200 users. The servers were 2.8GHz Dual core Xeons. Redhat 3 or 4 would have been better becuase of a file cache issue on the database tier.
Also rememeber to consider Oracle licensing, A faster CPU might cost alot more but when oracle licenses are based on core/cpus then you may save alot more by having the highest power cpus u can (MHz rating not ness cores). Sun T2000 servers are quite nifty too if you want to stay with traditional unix kit but not want the price tag.
When workign at internally in Oracle We quoted one client a 3 * 4 CPU 6650 with 8GB in RAC config with 12 * 2 CPU 2650 with 4GB to support 5000 concurrent users. I wasnt convinced this would work at the time but the client had massively over estimated the number of users they would actually have so all was fine.
If I was doing this now I would go for a single 64bit DB tier with 4 CPUs and lots of memory, I would have lots of small8gb mid tiers 2850's, with a hard ware load balancer in front and a dedicated GB backend network. I would ony go for RAC if I needed the resiliance or had a large number of users e.g. 1000+
All in my opinion and I am in no way suggesting this as a solution for any other customers. Always perform a hardware siazing exercise in conjunction with your hardware vendor (remembering they always want you to buy more hadrware than u need).

  • Limit concurrent logins on a WS 2008 environment

    Hi all
I'd like to ask if there is any way you can limit concurrent logons on a WS2008 AD domain.
Thing is i want my users (1500+) to only be able to log in on one machine at a time.
I saw a program called LimitLogon.exe but i'm not going to use that because it is unsupported, it requires IIS, it's quite old and it requires a OU structure in AD. I also saw a program called UserLock but we cannot afford that here since we would have to
    buy too many licenses.
I was also wondering why this feature isn't in server 2008? It's a quite common problem in many different branches in which IT has been applied (my case, a hospital).
    Any help on this?
(I don't mean concurrent logins on remote, i mean just be able to log onto one machine with their account at a time)
    Thanks in advance.
    Alex

    Hi Alex,
As far as I know, there is no build-in feature to limit number of logins of users from many machines in Active Directory Domain. Microsoft has released the LimitLogin
tool. The tool stores logged-on information in a custom AD partition via a Microsoft IIS hosted Web service, a client component, and a logon and logoff script. To run the tool, IIS must be installed along with ASP.NET.
For more information on the tool, please refer to the following link:
    Limit Login Attempts With LimitLogin
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/magazine/2005.05.utilityspotlight.aspx
If you do not want to run the tool, there is also ways to only allow users to log into certain machines which can help limit where they are logged into as a workaround.
    For example:
    1. Go to AD Users and Computers, find the user who you want to restrict, right click and choose Properties, click the Account tab, choose “Log On To”.
Select “This user can log on to:” “The following computers”, then add the computers as you want.
    2. Use group policy to restrict some domain users to log on certain computers
    Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment
    Deny logon locally
If you consider using LimitLogin, you can refer to the following links on how to install and use the tool:
    http://sgwindowsgroup.org/forums/t/586.aspx

  • Restricting Concurrent users on a particular BSP Application

We are having an appraisals link in the PM section of the portal which runs the HAP_DOCUMENT BSP application. We have to restrict the number of concurrent users accesing this application at the same time to about 600 so that the server will not crash...Is there a way by which i can find out the no of users accesing a partcular BSP application concurrently??

Appearently my interpretation of how Logon Groups work don't match up to their actual sophistication.
They use this number of users only as a gage to load balance between mutliple app servers.  It never uses this amount as a limiting factor.
Sorry if I led you down an incorrect path.  It seemed promissing.  However you could at least use this approach to limit the load to a single app server.  You could then configure the maximum number of concurrent connections in the ICM on this app server.  However this probably only works if you are willing to dedicate a single app server to this single application.

  • Managing Concurrent Users in Apex

    Hi,
We are wanting to manage the number of concurrent users allowed to log into our apex application at any point in time. The main hurdle we have come across is that we can't find a way to logout a users session if they close the browser without clicking the logout link.
We have found a javascript event onbeforeunload, but this appears to fire regardless of whether the browser is being closed or redirected to another page or refreshed etc.
We cant wait for a defined period of time for the session to expire, it must be near instantaneous.
Does anybody know of any ways that this can be acheived?
    Thanks

    Greetings,
I like to start by saying that i might be wrong.
To my knowledge its is near impossible to know for sure when a user closes the browser, at least in the server side.
Several ways to help with this exist but none of them are good performance wise.
A good strategy is to set small session times and based on activity.
    This goes as follows:
Assign a time limit for session inactivity.
    In the database associate:
    a date time(last_action)
and session(session) to each user, each time the user performs an action in the page (which sends or gets data from server) the last_action is updated to current date.
Then you need a process in the server side to continually evaluate which sessions have passed the expiration time for session inactivity, if so kill the session.
    Hope this helps,

  • Max Concurrent users

Has any one idea how many concurrent users can Sun One 6.0 support ?
We are doing Load testing of web application on Sun One 6.0 using LoadRunner. The maximum concurrent users that it is supporting is around 25. If Users are more than 25 then the application context of web application gets refreshed and few user transactions gets failed.
Is there any way to exceed this limit ? and plz tell if anyone has done load testing on Sun One 6.0

well by concurrent users i mean 25 users logging at that very instant.
And application context (servletcontext) gets refreshed means - like i am maintaing connection pool object and user hashmap object at application level.
    code in JSP ::application.setAttribute ("connpool",ObjConnPool)
when no of concurrent users get more, all logging at same time, then these objects r removed from application (servletcontext) and i get null pointer exception as objects r no more binded to application(servletcontext). This definately means application(servletcontext) has refreshed

  • Live stream on FMS issues when reaching 1600 concurrent users

    Hey all,
We have an FMS 4.5.2 installation with 1x Origin and 2x Edge setup only for Live streaming. We are using FMLE latest version to stream to the Origin server and Edge servers are connecting to the Origin server. We are running four applications stream1, stream2, stream3 and stream4 all for live streaming (copied live) application. All servers have default configuration except edge/origin setup.
All servers have 4Gbit connections in bonding and network traffic is nicely distributed across all bonds and uplink is 10Gbit to the ISP.
Server is a 2 CPU / Quad Core HP DL 380 with 64Gbit of memory running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
    Now to the problem.
We are streaming live stream from FMLE with 700kbit/s to for example stream1 application and when we hit around 1600 concurrent users with 50% on edge1 and 50% on edge2 (800 concurrent users on each edge) in the player buffer drops and all people experience buffering issues at approx 30secs - 2minutes intervals. (network is not congested because if at that time do an SCP from the server outside network it copies 1Gbyte file within seconds.
Funny thing is that If I start a second FMLE and stream live stream to for example stream2 application at same time and open up second player on client the video runs great without any buffer issues from the same server at the same time.
    edge1 server:
application: stream1 with 800 concurrent users, player has buffer issues
application: stream2 with 4 concurrent users, player has no issues
    edge2 server
    same as above
So my current conclusion is that it has to be something per application since other application does not have this issues when running simultaneously? We tried changing fmscore number settings and some buffer settings but nothing helped.
at the time when we get buffering issues this are the only problematic things that get in the log and its in edge.00.log on both EDGE servers but not at same times:

there is no packet loss between edge and origin servers and latency is at 0.2ms and nothing in the logs of the origin server
We even tried to deploy Wowza Medis Servers with edge / origin setup and were able to handle around 4000 (2000 on one and 2000 on second edge) concurrent users without any issues.
Anyone has any ideas or at least what are our next options to do and what settings to change on the FMS? or how to debug and what to check when buffering issue appears? any more debugging we can enable on the FMSs? too se if we hit some kind of limit somewhere?
    thanks
