Limiting creation dates in Automator workflow

I want to write an Automator workflow that will select files from a folder with creation dates within the last week and then copy them to a backup disc. I will change the start date each Monday. When I try to add creation date : before and creation date: after, there is no way to enter the date in the box that appears.
What am I missing?

what automator action are you using? "Find finder items"? it should certainly give you an option to enter dates if you search by "creation date after". It also gives you an option to search for files with creation date this week (and within last 2 weeks). that way you don't have to enter any dates.

  • Automator- create file names with creation date and time

I have photo files that I want to rename with a base name, plus a sequential number, based on the creation date (and ideally time). It appears that Automator does not honor the time of the source file when date stamping a new set of files. If there is anyway to use date + time so I can recreate a date_timestamp in addition to a base filename, that would be great.

    Hi Nikhil_BI_Dev,
According to your description, you find your report runs properly in BIDS but shows blank after deploying onto report server. Right?
In this scenario, it might be the issue on retrieving data in SQL 2005. Here is a thread with same issue, please refer to the link below:

Maybe it's set as a login item:
    - System Preferences: Users and Groups:
    - Highlight your user account in the left pane/list
    - Click "Login" tab at the top.
See if you have an Automater action on the list
    - Note, you can select it, then right-click, and can then select "Reveal in Finder". That way you might have an idea what installed it.

  • Changing creation or modification date with Automator

Three computers access iTunes in my apartment. The files are located on a drive connect to an airport extreme base station. Each computer needs to import music and have physical access to it for iPods and playlist creation. Since iTunes does not automatically check for new files I am in the process of building an Automator script to fix the problem.
I have created an Automator action that allows the user to control-click a folder with audio files in it and have Automator manually change the file name, then import the files into iTunes. My hope was that this would change each files modification date so that, at a later time, another Automator action could search the network drive for newly added media via the modification date. My problem is that simply changing the name does not change the modification date. Even creating an archive and unzipping it before importing does not change the date.
What action can I do with Automator that will change the modification date on those files so that I can search for them later? I know I can add the date to the file name but I don't want a user to have to guess which dates files were added (i.e. I'd have to tell Automator "look for this specific date in the file name' which is obviously unhelpful if I don't know the specific date).
Long story short, how can I change either dates with Automator?

Create a column with the following.
    TIMESTAMPDIFF( SQL_TSI_day, Opportunity."Created Date" , CURRENT_TIMESTAMP )
add a filter on this column, for example, <=90.
the SQL_TSI_month does not return accurate number of months.
    Cheers!

  • Import from backup-lost creation date

Help! I had to wipe my hard drive . . .reinstalled Iphoto. When importing photos back into Iphoto, there are no long any original creation date, just the dates of the backup, and the new import.
I know that I can batch change to the original creation dates (after looking up the original dates), but I have thousands of files. Is this a fixable bug? Any help will be really appreciated! Thanks . . .

    peabodyonline:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There's an application, PhotoInfo, that can batch change folders of files. However, all of the files will have the same date with a user added delta time added. The downside to this is that iPhoto won't recognize the change unless those files are imported into iPhoto after the edit. Well, not exactly right. There's Joe's iPhoto Date Applescripts and one may read the date in the file, after changing with PhotoInof, and write to iPhoto's database file so they are recognized in iPhoto. Check out the scripts here: http://www.joemaller.com/iphoto/iphoto_scripting.html
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application, iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Creating folders based on file creation date

    Hi,
I have a folder full of images and I am looking for an Automator workflow/app/script that can look at the files sequentially, read the creation date and then create folder name based on the file creation date (Year-Day-Month). Then move the file to the respective folder.
Appreciate any input you can provide.
    Regards
    Tom Erik

Open the AppleScript Editor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and run:
    tell application "Finder"
repeat with this_file in (get files of window 1)
set the_date to creation date of this_file
    set folder_name to ((year of the_date as string) & "-" & day of the_date & "-" & month of the_date)
    try
    make new folder in window 1 with properties {name:folder_name}
    end try
    move this_file to folder folder_name
    end repeat

  • How to Export from iPhoto 6 with Creation Date

I frequently need to share photos with friends, by burning a CD of the images. But whenever I do this, the photos are labeled with the date of export instead of the creation date, so if the friend wants to view a slide show of the photos in sequence of time, they can't do it.
Is there a way, within the Mac, without plugins or additional software, to fix this, say an Automator action to change the file's date to the date/time the photo was made?
    Thanks!

    Daver:
Do a Batch Change on those you're exporting using the Title to Date/Time (you can deselect the time later in the process. Then export the files to the desktop using the Use Title option. That will give you 12/2/06-1.jpg, etc. as the new file name.

  • Relocating files based on creation date

    Hello,
I have a folder full of hundreds of Video clips. I am interested in a script that will
    1. look at the files sequentially
    2. For each file read the creation date
    3. If a Folder with that creation date does not exist, create a folder with that creation date (YYYY-MM-DD)
    4. Move the file to the folder with the file's creation date
I've never used automator. Is this easy to do using that program?
The reason I want to do this is to avoid having to manually re-organize the videos by date, if I were to import the contents of the existing folder of video clips into iMovie.
Appreciate any input you can provide.
    Thanks.

Automator is designed to take small, pre-written routines (actions) and string them together into a workflow. There isn't a default action to do something like this, but the Run AppleScript action can be used. Actually, an AppleScript would probably be the way to go, but I just happened to have an Automator action lying around for some reason.
    Tested workflow:
    1) *Ask for FInder Items* {Type: Folders}
    2) *Get Folder Contents* (be careful with getting subfolders - this action will go into packages)
    3) *Run AppleScript:*

  • AppleScript to skip Automator workflow step - when no files are provided

    My current Automator workflow:
Get Specified Finder Items (path to folder auto-populating with images from a camera)
    Get Folder Contents
Sort Finder Items - by Creation Date in descending order (gets oldest item first)
Limit Number of Items - Limit to First 1 items
Move Finder Items (If no items are passed to this step skip it)
Loop - Automatically; Stop after 20 minutes; Use the original input
What I am trying to accomplish:
I'm trying to write an AppleScript to skip the "Move Finder Items action" when it is not supplied with any files (from the previous workflow step), moving on to the next step which is a loop to begin my workflow again.
    Big picture:
I have a workflow, where I am moving files from one folder to another folder (one at a time). When the input folder is empty, Automator comes back with "No item references were passed to the Move Finder Items action (-50)"; which it should - because it is not passed any files. I would like to ignore this error (or skip this step) and continue with the workflow if no files are provided to the "Move Finder Items action". I currently have an AppleScript (see below) that stops the workflow when this error occurs, but I would like to have this flow continue, not stop.
    AppleScript:
    on run {input, parameters}
if input is {} then error number -128 -- 'user cancelled'
              return input
    end run
Please help me create a script to skip this step, or to restart the Automator workflow when no files are passed to  the "Move Finder Items action".

I'm not aware of a way to do this with a workflow saved as an application, but Automator is scriptable, so you can manipulate a workflow document.  For an example, build the follwing workflow:
Ask for Text (just to get some input)
    Run AppleScript:
    on run {input, parameters}
set currentAction to index of current action of front workflow -- the most recent completed action
if input is {} then -- if no input then disable the following action
tell Automator action index (currentAction + 2) of front workflow to set enabled to false
      else -- enable it
tell Automator action index (currentAction + 2) of front workflow to set enabled to true
      end if
      return input
    end run
Ask for Confirmation (just to show a dialog when enabled - this action will be enabled/disabled based on the text input)
    Loop
You can also use action names, but I think it is less confusing to use indexes, since names can be edited and an action can be used more than once.

  • How to apply multiple automator workflows to one file

    Hi everyone,
I've set up a few workflow applications to automate the process of making packshots from PDF files. The way those roughly work is they create a temporary copy in a folder, open a Photoshop droplet that executes all the actions on the file, and then save the finished product in a "finished" folder.
However, we frequently need to deliver multiple packshots made from the same file. I was asked to make one automator app that allowed us to drop the PDF version on it, resulting in the multiple types of packshots in the "finished" folder, together with the original PDF.
The way I have this set up right now is as follows:
    1) Copy the original PDF file to the "finished" folder
    2) Execute the first automator app
    3) Execute the second automator app
This seems simple enough, and does work in 10.6.8. When I try it on a different computer in our studio though, with 10.7 installed, I get various errors:
    - Sometimes it says an error occured within one of the automator apps, while the app works fine when running it seperately (on all computers).
    - Sometimes it says something like "An error occurred while converting the data" when moving on from the first application to the second application
    - Sometimes I'll get an error message in the log, saying:
*** -[_NSArrayl objectAtIndex:]: index 0 beyond bounds for empty array
What I got from this is that it's actually not getting the right input it requires (or not getting any input, since it's an empty array). However, the previous task is set to "return the task input" (our systems are Dutch so excuse me for any discrepancies in translations please), and the resulting output that I get seems to be what I want the next automator application to use. Below is a screenshot of the error message:
    What I've tried:
    - I read somewhere that the newer versions of Automator require the action "Retrieve selected finder items" between them. I've tried using this in various ways (between all other actions/tasks, only before the second application to be run and before both applications to be run), but with no success. The problem I have with these is that, during the applications, it moves the files around, thus apparently selecting those folders as well.
    - Building an entirely new workflow on the newer system
    - Using "Start application" instead of "Execute Automator workflow". This results in Automator saying that it did execute the workflow while nothing happened.
    - Using "Ignore input" for the second application. This also results in Automator saying that it executed the workflow while nothing happened.
So right now, I'm pretty stumped as to how to get this combination of apps to work in 10.7. Any solutions or workarounds are most welcome.
    Thanks in advance!

Yes, angelanna. You can merge or split your video file via FCP sequence.
ahaah, maybe I think angelanna would like to get the resulting file with MTS format because he mentioned “No need to be compressed”. Are you asking for this, angelanna?
If so, a simple MTS files managing and editing tool  is needed. Maybe you can have a try the Mac version of Aunsoft Final Mate for managing HD camcorder footages. I just downloaded its free trial version and it offers a simple way of garping footages directly  from camcorder. And also it provides a attractive feature to join flawlessly and split accurately native MTS files for video file output with original MTS format.
Maybe this is the tool cwhich an help you out, angelanna.
    Enjoy your video.

  • Can I script the changing of creation date, using the file name?

Normally people are doing this in reverse, but let me paint the picture.
I pulled 204 video files from an old HDD based JVC camera.  JVC records in .MOD format which iPhoto won't import.  I imported them into iMovie just fine, and iMovie even set the file name to clip-2007-11-04 04;42;29.mov which is great, but it now has a new creation date of whatever date I imported it.  Which then causes problem when I want the videos stored in iPhoto and sorted appropriately by creation date.
I've used the application "A Better Finder Attributes 5" to individually edit the creation and modify, but I'm sure I don't want to do this 203 more times, as you can't just type in the date and time, you have to type in each part of the date/time, or select it on a calendar.
I've used the application "Name Changer" to batch convert the file names to the format YYYYMMDDhhmm which would be helpful if I were going to use the terminal command touch -t, but again I don't want to have to type it in 203 more times, plus drag and drop the file into finder to populate the location.
Now, if I were more handy with automator, or maybe some (any) scripting language this would be easy peasy.  I'd batch rename all the files to the YYYYMMDDhhmm.mov and then have a script that just took the file name, passed that to touch -t along with the file location, and a few seconds later, they would all be done!
Anybody have any suggestions to how I can do this, and tips to what commands to use or ANY advice?  I'm more than happy to RTFM, but I have no idea which manual to read!
    Thanks

If your file names are precisely as you have written, this script will do what you want.
Copy the script into an AppleScript Editor document, select one or more files in a Finder window, return to the AS Editor and press Run.  Note: you will need to provide your password when the script runs.
Make sure you have a backup of any files you are working on (try using duplicates first, perhaps). The script has no error handling.
    tell application "Finder"
              set FileList to selection
              repeat with theFile in FileList
set fileName to name of theFile
set filePath to quoted form of (POSIX path of (theFile as alias))
set crYear to text 6 thru 9 of fileName
set crMonth to text 11 thru 12 of fileName
set crDay to text 14 thru 15 of fileName
set crHour to text 17 thru 18 of fileName
set crMins to text 20 thru 21 of fileName
set crDate to crYear & crMonth & crDay & crHour & crMins

  • Image copy to folder with name based on image creation date

    Hi all,
I am new to Mac OS X and automator so I would like to know the following,
Is it possible to have an automated action that triggers when I attach my camera to USB, and who copies all images to a folder which is named according to the date when the image was created?
    Example:
I attach my camera and it shows up as disk image named "NIKON D70" and the images are contained in subfolders "DCIM/100NCD70" (or actually in DCIM/*). I then want all images in these folders copied to my home directory in a subdirectory called something like "Pictures/D70/2007/20070605" where the year folder name and the date folder name should be according to current image creation date (which of course can be different for each image).
I have created a simple automation script that copies images from my camera to a folder named according to current date, but that's not good enough.
Anybody having any hints or ideas of how I can accomplish this?

  • Date format in workflow email

    Hi All,
I'm having issues with the date format within an automated WorkFlow email. For Leads, users in the UK are entering the 'call back date' field as '26/06/2009' and in the email it seems to base this on the server locale appearing as '06/26/2009'. Can we format this within the code?
    Thanks
    Oli @ Innoveer

I have just experienced this and used the following to convert the date to Australian format for my workflow email
    %%%Mid([<IndexedDate0>],4,2) + '/' + Left([<IndexedDate0>],2) + Mid([<IndexedDate0>],6,Len([<IndexedDate0>]))%%%
    this gives format DD/MM/YYYY

  • Automator Workflow to export Numbers documents in PDF format

Does anyone know of any automator workflow to export Numbers documents in PDF format? I tried this program: Convert to PDF 1.2
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/automator/converttopdf_mauriziominelli.htm l
    But it gives an error.

    Reading carefully is often useful.
The description of the tool which you tried clearly states :
    *About Convert to PDF*
*_Convert all of your text files to PDF_. This action uses the underlying cups printing system ability to convert files, it’s a simple front end to the command line tool cupsfilter.*
As far as I know, but maybe you don't, *_a Numbers document isn't a text file._*
I already posted a script exporting Numbers documents as PDF.
Here is an enhanced version which apply only to Numbers '09 (or maybe higher) :
    --[SCRIPT save2Numbers&PDF.app]
Enregistrer le script en tant que Script : save2Numbers&PDF.scpt
déplacer le fichier créé dans le dossier
    <VolumeDeDémarrage>:Users:<votreCompte>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Numbers:
    --=====
    L'aide du Finder explique:
L'Utilitaire AppleScript permet d'activer le Menu des scripts :
Ouvrez l'Utilitaire AppleScript situé dans le dossier Applications/AppleScript.
Cochez la case "Afficher le menu des scripts dans la barre de menus".
    +++++++
    Save the script
    as a Script: save2Numbers&PDF.scpt
Move the newly created file into the folder:
    <startup Volume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Numbers:
Maybe you would have to create the folder Numbers and even the folder Applications by yourself.
go to the Scripts Menu, choose Numbers, then choose save2Numbers&PDF
The script saves the document in the native Numbers format and saves it in a .pdf file
If such a .pdf already exists, it is renamed with a stamp matching its modification date.

    The Finder's Help explains:
To make the Script menu appear:
Open the AppleScript utility located in Applications/AppleScript.

  • Respect original media creation date in final cut server ?

    my question is...
is there any way for final cut server to respect the original finder creation date of the media? I do understand that the file is being newly created in the database and thus will have a creation and modification date of when you put it in, but is there a way to tell the database to change the data.
Why am i trying to do this?
I have a bunch of old footage that has a creation date reflecting the actual date the footage was created off the camera. I use this date created to find footage in my database such as all footage from a shoot between 10/2/09 and 10/8/09.
    What i have tried:
I have tried using the A Better Finder Attributes application to change the date created after i have imported the footage into final cut server. this caused issues with the proxy and thumbnail creation when i went to reanalyze the footage to see what it would do. I saw that final cut server does not look at the file itself to know when it was created and only logs this creation date in its own database without looking to the original file for this information.
I currently have a field in final cut server to manually enter the date but this is yet another step that someone needs to take when importing footage to server and the less steps the better.
do i have any options for final cut server 1.5 to respect the finder creation date of the original media? or change it after the import into fcserver?
What good is the creation date in fcserver if you have amassed years of old footage to be put into your database and find footage based on date it was originally created?
or what good is the creation date if you are on a shoot and do not get to ingest the footage until you get back, say maybe a few weeks later? how would you know when you shot which footage on what day?
    Thanks for your help

H.264 is a puzzling choice of codec for edit proxies. H.264 is not an edit-friendly codec since it is a complex long-GOP structure and will require a ton of rendering just to play back the timeline. ProRES 422 Proxy would be a much better choice for editing. I'm afraid I can't account for the differences between Compressor and FCServer in this case, but my gut tells me the non-I-frame codec you are trying to use for edit proxies might have something to do with it. Maybe for an edit-proxy workflow to operate properly on the server-side the codec must be I-frame? Is there any reason you do not want to use ProRES 422 Proxy? They are about 1/3 the footprint of 720p24 DVCPRO-HD, which is already very efficient. For that frame rate and frame size they would be roughly half the heft of good ol' DV25.
So my answer to all three questions would be to try ProRES 422 Proxy for your edit proxies and see if everything lines up.
