Line on Monitor Screen

I have a TouchSmart 520.  Recently I have noticed a slanted line in the upper right corner of the screen...it slants just across the upper edge of the "X".  Is this a sign that my monitor is failing?  Thanks for any input.

Hello Jeze. Welcome to the HP Forums. I understand there is a line of your Touchsmart's monitor. Whenever I come across this, the issue is usually hardware-related. However, there is some troubleshooting you can attempt. The following document contains suggestions you can apply: Display Quality Issues
Otherwise, I would contact HP Phone Support for more information. You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide

  • Faded lines on monitor screen

I could use an answer on if my monitor is shot or not, it is a w2071d 20 inch LCD monitor, I bought it about a year ago. The problem is I have evenly spaced faded horizontal lines that cover my entire screen. I have done some troubleshooting and figured it is definatly the screen (I'll explain how below) and I am curious if I need to replace it or if it is indeed a fixable problem. After unplugging the monitor from the computer, cycling the power, changing the outlet that it is plugged into, using the auto adjust mode, and resetting it to factory settings it still has the lines accross the screen. It is the monitor for sure because after doing all this I had it unplugged from the computer but powered and the "no connection detected" display that pops up also has the lines through it. Please let me know what you think-JustAnswers

Hi there  I understand that you seeing lines on your display. I am happy to help you with this. By any chance have you tested your display on a different computer, just to be safe? If you get the same lines, then it is going to be a hardware issue of some sort. If the lines do not appear then it may be a hardware  or software issue on the original desktop. Assuming you have the lines on multiple systems then try looking through this page:  HP and Compaq Flat Panel Displays - Display Quality Issues If it needs repair, and certainly if it is still within its warranty perion then I would suggest that you use the following http://www.hp.com/contacthp and create a case for your issue and contact HP. • Lines on Monitor screen

I have pixal-lines going thru my screen, they are in random places and randomly come and go. There is not one particular tasks or operation that I am doing.  The screen will then freeze and I will need to unplug my computer and plug back in to get the system going again.

  • I have very thin, colored lines running vertical on my desktop monitor screen.  I don't know where they come from or how to get rid of them.  I started with one and now have three.  Can anyone give me some insight about what to do in getting rid of them?

I have very thin, colored lines that have shown up on my IMac monitor screen.  I don't know where they came from or how to get rid of them.  I'm concerned now because I started with one and now have three.  Does any know why this occurs or how to get rid of them?

I got an address from Applecare, although I can't place my hand on it right now. I didn't bother persuing the letter route myself as I didn't expect much. I know that the location was Cork, Ireland though as that where the UK Applecare is based as far as I'm aware. The best thing to do is to call Applecare (if it's free) and discuss the issue. State that you are not happy wit the fact that you will have to pay to have the problem resolved especiiay if it is an ongoing problem that has not been resolved. I ended up speaking to a senior manager of the Applecare team who then proceeded to tell me about mailing in my grievence to customer services division or something like that.
If I can find the address I may post it if I'm allowed.
In the case of age, Schools usually have a 5-year life-cycle as they tend to be used differently than consumer machines, i.e. being used constantly on a daily basis for at least 12 hours with no break. you would expect issues to appear after a few years, but I expect problems that arise through defects to be resolved and stay resolved. As I mentioned we had machines for around 2 years before the lines appeared and sent them to be repaired. I'm happy with that. What I am unhappy about is the fact that the problem has reappeared exactly in the same way and now I'm left with around 7 machines that I either pay loads to repair or, the more likely replace the machines with newer ones since the age is now big enough to warrant the replacement.
Sorry for the lengthy moan, but these are the reasons I purchased Apple ahrdware in the first place to avoid the "not our problem" stance some PC vendors  usually take, similar to the Dell monitors thread mentioned in here somewhere.

    Hello EJ1960,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I have read your post on how your notebook screen is displaying colorful lines across your screen, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To further diagnose this issue, I recommend plugging in your notebook to a TV or monitor. This will help determine if there is a defect with the graphics card or the LCD display.
In accordance with this document on Resolving Problems with Notebook Displays, if the screen does not display the same colored lines on the monitor as it does on the notebook, it means the defect lies in the notebook screen itself.
If this is the case, I recommend contacting our technical support at 1-800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

I have seen an annoying floating email address from a form showing up on my monitor screen, even though the form was closed.
Even if I move any open windows, the email address is still showing on my screen.
Anyone have any idea on how I may delete this image or whatever it is?  Thanks.  Donna

  • Mapping an irregular shape to represent monitor screen

    Hi everyone,
I have captured movements inside an irregular shape and need to map it on the monitor's screen. The input space is a 2D shape with 4 boundaries and these boundaries are not straight lines but irregular and nonlinear. The 2nd space is simply a 2D screen i.e. cursor position on the monitor screen. Maybe, I can use some kind of stretching out or stretching down function or perhaps a combination of both to cover the entire screen. I want this irregular quadrilateral to represent the monitor screen. Another difficulty is that the input space can be different each time and is not unique but I will always have the 4 corners and boundary of the input space.
I appreciate your thoughts on this,
    Elnaz

Yeah it seems like what is probably happening is the magnetic fields created by the sensors are interfering with each other, creating the distortion you see. In short, there are some tools available in LabVIEW that can help you do this, but they are only available in separate toolkits (see here). In particular, the IMAQ (Image Acquisition) toolkit has some calibration functions that do what you are trying to do. This page and this page provide some information about using the calibration tools in IMAQ.
If you are trying to do this on your own though, you'll have to use some fairly complex logic. You would have to step through each coordinate data point to eventually develop a transfer function that shifts your coordinates into a rectangle. This forum has some information that may help you develop code for doing this. But the exact algorithm LabVIEW uses for this is proprietary.
Hopefully this will at least give you an idea where to start. Again, probably the easiest thing to do would use a toolkit.

  • Qosmio F10: Monitor screen looks like an Andy Warhol picture

I am currently having problems with my monitor screen looking like an Andy Warhol picture. I have resorted to going through the Product Recovery DVD-ROM for my Qosmio F10/G10 Laptop in the hope that reverting it back to the factory settings would solve the problem but it hasn't.
The screen breaks down after the Windows welcome screen, leaving me with my desktop all Andy Warhol like (i.e. blocks of pixilated colour at the edges of the graphics). I have tried to reset the resolution which solves the problem to an almost acceptable level but on a temporary basis, because the problem re-appears again when I re-boot the laptop.
I think that it is something to do with the Windows Multimedia Operating system that was preinstalled on my computer (so no recovery disc). The reasoning behind this assumption is that I put a DVD film into the Multimedia that is part of Windows XP and the film is a moving Andy Warhol video.
I put the same DVD into the WinDVD that came as a Toshiba additional content and the DVD is perfect! My reasoning is, that if there was something wrong with the hardware of the Laptop, then all DVD reading programs would react the same way, but as they do not, it must be a programming (or operating system problem).
Am I on the right lines? Is there a way to solve the problem via a downloadable file?

Thanks guys for your replies, sorry if my question is confusing, but I couldn't think of any other way of describing it without the use of a screen dump to show you.
At the moment I haven't got another monitor to try, even though this looks as though it would have been the easiest option. I shall start asking round to see if I can borrow one to eliminate that variable.
However I will try to reinstall and to update "Graphic Drivers" to get rid out of this display problem.
    Thanks to all.

  • A line on the screen..

There is white line on my screen  when i turn of my mac......What is the problem and what should i do ?

Assuming this is occurring to your macbook and only occurs when shutting down, the row of the pixels is probably still being driven by the charges stored on signal and power lines.  If you don't see it during normal operations, this is probably a non-issue.   If you see it during normal operations, then you may have a stuck on row driver (if horizontal line) and a stuck on column driver (if vertical line).  But you really have not given us much information to go on to guess at what may be wrong.  If this is an external monitor and not the macbook air's own display screen, that would be useful information as well, including make and model.

  • I've just downloaded software -now have a thin blue line on my screen? pls. help.

I have just downloaded some software...when my computer restarted, it now has a thin blue line on the screen.  What's happened?

A: is it in all screens or just Chrome (unlikely)?
    B: reset SMC
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
C: Your LCD is highly likely NOT broken rather a signal feed hardware issue in the monitor cable that travels thru the hinge from the logic board.
D: make a screenshot and verify if the screenshot shows the same or not.
E: the LED backlighting is showing thru implying, of course, that the LCD feed for that vertical line is not being fed.
    Reset SMC and verify.
if same, you have either bad monitor cable or connection of same at junction with logic board.
At which point make appt. with Apple for diagnostic / service

  • Many lines on my screen, impossible to see.

As you can see, I have many lines on my screen. I can not see anything under those lines. I have VNC'ed into my computer to check, and it is the connections to the monitor, not a problem with something else. I have booked a meeting at the genius bar this Sunday, but I was wondering if anyone had a fix.
    Thanks.

so the two lines that i had on my screen, The one seems to be little by little going away everyday...The long line is almost completely gone...I know this is still something i should get replaced..but how is this possible..If the lines completely vanish, how can i show the people what is wrong?

  • Lines appearing on screen...

When I'm watching videos, playing games, or even scrolling on Firefox, I get these faint horizontal lines on my screen.  It doesn't look like tearing...Just faint lines.
I have a Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS video card with 512MB RAM and I'm using the proprietary Nvidia drivers.  I've tried everything I could suggested in the wiki and previous threads...But nothing seems to fix it.  My WM is Awesome and I have mplayer configured to use VDPAU.

I'm having the same issue. Looks like this, but at a slight angle and different RGB colors (almost like JPG artifacting).
Started this evening after a cold boot. I just put my X800 XT Mac G5 edition in 2 weeks ago. No real heavy use either, as I've been gone for a week.
Looks to me like bad VRAM (according to TechTool Deluxe). I'm running the AHT now and will hopefully come to a final conclusion soon. I did test my 20" Apple monitor (DVI) with my laptop and there was no problem...so it is definitely the video card. Not sure if the aforementioned ATI ROM extender will fix it or not.
Much luck to all of us who are having this problem.

  • Thin vertical lines appearing on screen, since wakeup from sleep mode.

My Mac G5, 2GHz, DVD-R, 1GB DDR RAM, OSX 10.4.10, ATI RADEON X800 XT has recently developed a display issue. On start-up the screen shows vertical lines across the entire screen. The colors of theses lines is varying from green to black, depending of the background color. The lines are appearing from the grey loading screen and when a profile is logged in.
Shutting down and restarting doesn't cure the problem, nor does staring in safe mode nor starting up from an install CD. I also tried re-installing the operating system, but I get the same result. I tried another monitor but I also get the lines on screen. I verified all the cables and that the graphic card is well in place in the pci slot.
If I change the resolution, I also get thoses lines but they change place on screen. Also, if I set the colors level to 256 colors, I get very little single lines but If I set the color level to the highest (36,7 Millions), the lines appears in group of 5+ and are all over the screen.
I tried taking a screenshot using the shortcut cmd-shift-3 and I can see the line in the pictures. Also, if I take a screenshot of a window that is behind the window in the front ( using cmd-shift-4-space ), I dont see the line on the screen shot.
I started to have this problem when my mac was woke up from sleep mode and the problem has persisted since then.
I guess my problem is the graphic card but I would like an external opinion before I got buy another one.
    Thanks

  • Pixel problem? Lines on the screen

hello my iMac is 3 1/2 years old. about 6 months ago I started to get lines on the screen, last week one of the lines turned into an 1 1/2 inch white line. From what I'm reading it's a pixel problem. My question is should I have this problem repaired, or is it not worth doing. thank you.

Are the newer versions less apt to have this problem. and is there a history of this problem with iMacs thanks.
Tough questions, the problem is that iMacs are sort of All-In-Ones, using basically Laptop components with a Desktop Monitor & Hard Drive, if one thing goes you can't just replace say the Video Card like on a PowerMac or MacPro, because most everything is built into the Logic Board.
I strongly suggest that anyone getting an iMac or Laptop go for the extended AppleCare.
As for the new iMacs, they look really sweet, but I myself would not buy one with an nVidia Graphic Card, I'd have to order the more expensive ATI Graphic Card.

  • Vertical Color Lines in Monitor IMAC

Hi: I love macs but i have a problem with my IMAC:
A week ago i saw the first vertical line in monitor (yellow). Two day later i appear one more (purple), and today , when i turn on the mac, have another !!!!
Whats that? Its a problem with IMAC???
I friend told me that IMAC are bad and its not in guarantee!!!!
I want to buy another but if they are damish later that 18 months, i dont want to waste my money!
    Please help!

    Hello guys,
I hope my message can help you all fix your screen problem. I'm a mac lover and felt irritated when I saw all those vertical color lines appeared on my iMac screen, especially if the problem occurred not because of reckless usage but because of some production flaw, in one of Apple's outsource manufacturer, in Shanghai (I read somewhere). At that time my LCD screen had 18 lines in total!!!
Let me tell you my experience...
I called Apple Care support, because I live in Singapore I called local support, and told them about my problem. Then the guy asked me a few questions like what is my iMac serial number, my particulars, when did I buy iMac, what is my problem and so on. I said does Apple has a special warranty for this problem because I read in a forum I can get it fix for free.
Then, the guy told me he will call me back to see whether I am eligible for this warranty. Not long after that, the guy called me and told me a good news that I am eligible for this special warranty and can fix my LCD screen for free. Then the next day, I brought my iMac to a local Apple Repair Center. Three days later they called me and I picked up my iMac with new LCD screen without paying anything. That was so awesome I thought, the apple care support handled the problem nicely, the repair center staffs were very friendly, and above all that I get a BRAND NEW LCD screen for FREE!!!
I hope you guys who have the same problem with me can try to call Apple Care Support, eventhough your Mac's 1-year warranty has expired and you didn't buy an Apple extended warranty. This is a special case for Apple, you remember upthere when I mentioned about manufacturing defect.
Just for your information, I bought my iMac in early Dec 2005 and I called Apple Care in June 2008, so I have used it for almost three years this december. Maybe if your iMac still less then three years after you bought it this special warranty is still eligible for you, but for you who has more-than-3-year-old iMac you can try too. Another information is my iMac is third generation iMac with iSight, 17" screen, 1.9Ghz processor. So anyone who ever said that this warranty only valid for first generation iMac, this is not true.
Ok, lastly I hope you guys can fix this problem soon and be glad with your BRAND NEW LCD screen, free from Apple.
Hope this helps. God bless you all!
