Link from iCal toDos to Filemaker /Applescript

Hi all,
I managed to program my Filemaker database that I can generate vcals of specific files which iCal can subscribe to. Now I would like to incorporate a link to a script that - when I press the link in iCal - will open the matching file in my Filemaker database.
When I add birthdays from the addressbook its similar like:
addressbook://9F6FF48C-9016-11DB-BAE9-000393A9E04A:ABPerson
But I think it doesn´t work as easy with Filemaker. I have to find a way to get the way to Filemaker/the database/ and then call a filmaker script to find the specific file.
Any ideas of how to do these first steps maybe with Applescript and how the link in iCal should look like that I can click on it?
Best regards - Christoph

I thought about it the following way:
I make an ID-field in Filemaker which has a number for every filemaker file in the database. This ID will be the first thing that gets transfered into the Note-field of the iCal ToDo.
Now I need a script that copies this first word (number) - can be either 7 or 3423 - out of the note field of iCal - goes to my filemaker database and make a search for this number in the ID field.
I have some rudimental scripting that goes to filemaker but have no idea about the searching and navigating and the copying of the number out of the note filed in iCal... any ideas?
tell application "FileMaker Pro Advanced"
activate
tell database "databasename"
tell table "layoutname"
tell window 1
set therequest to create new request
set data of field "ID" of therequest to ID-number
find
end tell
end tell
end tell
end tell
Any help would be greatly appreciated - I think it should work this way. I can call the script out of iCal by text
file:///Users/Christoph/Desktop/linkapp.app
which I can send out of filemaker when I make the todo at the end of the notefield. Then I only have to select it and right-click open URL.
Have a great 2007 - Christoph

  • E-mail links from iCal event - not working in Yosemite

My workflow has always depended on dragging e-mails from Mail to iCal
This generates link in ical event "Show in mail" - giving me option to find the e-mail with one click from iCal
Since Yosemite install the links go wrong!
I can generate several events from several e-mails and all links point me to the same random e-mail. I haven't yet found clear pattern in this randomness, but it seems to link to the first mail-to-iCal created after sleep/restart, but not always...
    Anybody experiencing similar bug?
Tried "mailbox" > "rebuid" with no result.
    Any more ideas?
I'm on MB Pro 2009 using POP-accounts for mail but the random-link behavior is just same when dragging mails from my icloud account.

Well it's good news i'm not alone in this - frustrating indeed!
Searching for solutions with no result so far.
I've been migrating my user library from one opsys to other since Leopard i guess, so probably i should just do a clean install one day - this MUST help
My workaround after a week of being just unable to manage my incoming information was to use Notes
Dragging emails to notes content still works, and in a way i kind of like it - u can keep a single note with several links to different emails etc. At least for now it seems like a decent substitute. Organizing notes to folders is helpful too, but i guess you can't organize folders in iOS which is really bad.
So - still hoping to move back to my iCal

  • Can a hyperlink be created for an iCal Todo?

I would like to be able to refer create an iCal Todo URL (not Mail todo) so that I can link to a particular todo from elsewhere. Is this possible?

you can only create a url at the calendar level, i.e. when you publish a calendar to either .mac or a webdav compliant server. you cannot create a url at the to do level in ical
    hope this helps

  • IPhone, MobileMe and iCal ToDo?

    Hi,
Basically I'm not sure wether my question fits in this category or MpbileMe or iCal.
To the point... I'm still in trial period of MobileMe and as far as I saw, "the thing" is quite cool (I'm just waiting the iDisk app). Before leaving the office I entered a few ToDo things for upcoming days in calender on me.com.
Now I'm wandering, where on my iPhone (3G, OS 3.0) can I see this ToDo list? Did I miss something?
I checked all applications Calender, Notes... but I cant find or see my ToDo list!?
Many thanks in advance for any tip or suggestion,
    M

You can't find it because it isn't supported.
    http://www.google.com/search?q=iphonesync+to-doical
That first link suggests Appigo as a workaround---Apple does open up the iCal data so that other apps can pull it from your computer and then sync it to the phone (I believe, I don't use iCal todos myself)

  • Export iCal ToDo Items

    Hello everyone.
Since there is now a FileMaker-companion named "FMTouch" in the iPhone-AppStore, I wanted to use FileMaker to manage (and finally sync) my ToDos with the iPhone. The only problem: How can I export my ToDos from iCal (to a *.csv-File)?? I tried Bento, but this wannabe database did not export all fields. Any suggestions?
Thank you very much in advance!
    Michael

    Hello all,
    Also having the same problem
When setting due date of a task in outlook 2007 on exchange 2007 server, dates show up correct in ical and mail. But when changing the due date in ical or mail the date in outlook task list is -1 day off. Reminder dates and times are always correct but due dates change -1 day when altered in ical or mail.
So when i change in Ical - Mail: due date 29-01-2009 shows up in Outlook: due date 28-01-2009.
When i change due date in Outlook to 29-01-2009 it shows up in ical - mail as 29-01-2009 (like it should be).
    Its driving me nuts
Sorry for my bad english but hope it is a bit clear.
    Kind regards

  • Calendar missing from iCal's list.

Noticed today that our Work calendar is missing from iCal's list. Checked partner's iMac, iPad, 2 iPhones, MobileMe. Missing from all of them. Turned off syncing with MobileMe on both iMacs & all other devices. Quit iCal/Calendar on everything.
In Finder window selected ~/Library. Entered Time Machine. Selected ~/Library/Calendars. Selected a timeline a few days back. Clicked Restore. Said 'Keep both', & removed original from Library folder.
Opened iCal. When it first loaded the calendars, Work was there, but it quickly disappeared and what's more, events added in other calendars since the timeline date chosen were there too. So there's something else (to do with Sync Services?) I need to turn off or delete....?
I'll be very grateful for enlightenment here.
    OS is 10.6.8

These are evidently MobileMe calendars, to which the Apple Tech Note linked to above does not apply; and turning off syncing in System Preferences>MobileMe>Sync has no effect on iCal syncing which no longer uses that method.
This is why your calendar is disappearing: MobileMe sees it as deleted, so every time you add it back in from Time Machine (whereupon it has an earlier modification date than the deletion) MobileMe brings it up to date by deleting it, and also updates the other calendars.
There is a method for dealing with this issue, though it's a trifle complicated and you need to work through the steps carefully and exactly. The process is detailed here:

  • Wake computer from sleep automatically to run applescript

Hey guys, here's a problem for you to figure out. I just recently learned some very basic terms for applescript so I figured I'd make an alarm clock to wake me up. I'm looking for some kind of code or program that can wake up the computer just like the Schedule in Energy Saver does, but in a more flexible way.
    This is the code I use for the alarm clock;
    set volume 0
    tell application "Finder"
    activate
open internet location file "lightningstream.surfernetwork.com/.webloc" of folder "Site Shortcuts" of folder "Desktop" of folder "Nick" of folder "Users" of startup disk
    end tell
    delay 15
    set volume 1
    delay 0.25
    set volume 1.5
    delay 0.25
    set volume 2
    delay 0.25
    set volume 2.5
    delay 0.25
    set volume 3
    delay 0.25
    set volume 3.5
    delay 0.25
    set volume 4
    delay 0.25
    delay 4
    set volume 2
So this sets the volume to 0, opens up a radio stream, then increases the volume and lowers it. On weekdays this works without a problem because i set the Schedule in Energy Saver to wake the computer on Weekdays at 5:51 AM and then have iCal run the applescript at 5:55 AM. But if i wanted to wake up later in the day on the weekend then I would have to wake the computer to get the script to run.
I'm looking for some kind of code or program that can wake up the computer just like the Schedule in Energy Saver does, but in a more flexible way.
Now I realize that there is a sleep and a doze. Usually my computer is in doze because I have a security camera program that runs on it's own schedule. Eventually that shuts off and my Mac sleeps. So i need some way to tell the computer to wake at a specific time from sleep with me having to manually wake it. Any ideas?

If you're comfortable with the command-line environment (i.e. Terminal.app) you can use the "pmset" command to schedule individual, non-repeating sleep or wake events.
    For example:
sudo pmset schedule wake "07/04/11 20:00:00"
Will wake a sleeping mac at 10AM on July 4th 2011. (And only at that date and time, not any other time.)
For more info on "pmset", execute "man pmset" at the command line.
Why Apple doesn't build a more flexible scheduling function into the Energy Saver sleep-scheduler (or better yet, right into iCal) I don't know, but the low-level functionality is already easily accessible, right there in the pmset command.
Depending on your needs, you could write an Applescript or even a fully-fledged application program as a graphical front end to the "pmset" command-line utility. For example, you might use iCal's ability to hand off event data to Applescript as follows:
    - Create a schedule of sleep & wake events in an iCal Calendar.
    - Use Applescript to grab all of those events and parse their date/time/wake/sleep info into a table.
    - Spit that data into a shell script that runs a separate "pmset" command for each event.
To get really fancy, your application could also read, or perhaps even learn to directly write to, the
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist file, which stores a human-readable list of scheduled sleep / wake events.

  • Phone number links in iCal

    Hello all;
In Mail, phone numbers turn into links which when tapped dial the call.
In iCal, even if I put a phone number in the event name or notes and view it on the iPhone, it is not a link. So I transcribe it on paper (yuck!) then dial it manually.
Tried to workaround this by adding attendees to the event but those contacts don't show on the iPhone.
Anyone know a way to be able to tap-dial from iCal on the iPhone?
    Thanks, dave

    Not possible.

  • Syncing calendars using Outlook 2007 from iCal Server

    Hi,
I would like to know the procedure to sync calendars using Outlook 2007 from iCal Server.
I'm setting up Internet Calendar on Outlook 2007 from == Tools> Account Settings> Internet Calendars>New> Enter the URL and click on add button
Post that, I'm getting an error:
"Error: Cannot verify or add the Internet Calendar in Outlook. Verify the link is a valid calendar link:
    webcal://fully qualified domain name:8443/calendars/_uids_/Generated UID/Calendar"
    Looking forward some response soon.
    Thanks!!

    Hi!
That is never going to work if you are looking for 2-way sync with iCal server. You need a 3rd party application to do that, like ical4ol or the open source Outlook sync plugin available here: http://caldav.calconnect.org/implementations/clients.html.
Or alternatively, use another mail client like eMClient for mail and calendaring.

  • Detach iCloud from ICal?

For no reason other than it was a new feature, I linked iCloud to iCal even though I only have my MacBook Pro and no other computers/smart phones. There's no reason for me to have iCloud loaded. Now, it's causing all kinds of errors and I've lost my calendar and can'r restore from a Time Machine backup. When I restore, I see the calendar briefly, it updates, then the calendar disappears. iCloud is causing the problem. Is there a way to permanently detach iCloud from iCal? iCloud keeps showing up in my attempt to restore even though I've deleted it from the iCal account. I've got a good Time Machine backup from yesterday but I just can't restore it.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If your calendars are only on the iCloud then you'll never see them if you stop using iCloud. You can export them to the Desktop and import them into On My Mac. Forget about the backup and restore, that's not needed.

  • How do I delete meetings from iCal without notifying everyone?

How do I delete meetings from iCal without notifying everyone?  I've searched the Web and the only answer that comes back is to use a product that doesn't help me with Microsoft Exchange.  This seems like a fairly simple thing to fix, but has been outstanding for 3+ years.  Really?  Am I the only person who wants to remove old meetings from an Exchange calendar without whacking the entire calendar and its appointments and without having the original participants getting spammed?
I'm using the built-in "delete events xx days after they have passed", which you would think wouldn't do this.  Guess again.  I cannot control the fact my clients use Exchange, and it's a fairly common e-mail system for enterprises to have.  Are there any solutions?
    Thanks!

I was just experiencing this problem on Mountain Lion. The calendar I wanted to delete was on iCloud. So, I logged into iCloud from a web browser, and selected Calendar. On the current incarnation of iCloud Calendar the calendars are listed on the left. I selected the "Edit" link at the top of that list and chose delete. It indicated that the items would be deleted, but there was nothing about notifications. Then, when I went back to iCal on my Mac, I selected the calendar to be deleted, right clicked, and slected refresh...
    ... gone.
It probably would have disappeared on it's own eventually. I'd be curious to see if theis works for others, so please confirm.
    Good luck.

  • ICal ToDo List -- Any workaround instead of paper list?

I am both a Windows & Mac user... About a year ago, i switched to the original iPhone from an old Windows PDA (Dell Axim) which had all the functionality I needed, but was physically dying... I really got hooked on the calendar, contacts, and Task syncing features across my pda, and home and work Pc's...
Thanks to my MacBook, iPhone, and MobileMe, I am starting to be much more Mac based... My calendar & contacts syncing have been great.. I just found the ICal ToDo list (which wasnt as obvious to find as I thought it would have been) - but it works decently for my MacBook... I was surprised when I searched here and saw that it didnt sync with MobileMe..
Is there any sort of app or workaround that can sync up Outlook and iCal's ToDo list? I mean, on the surface it just seems so much simpler than calendars and contacts (which work wonderfully), so theres no obvious reason why it shouldn't exist yet...
I've already made the "Enhancement Request" to Apple, but in my search I saw people have been complaining about this since January 2008 (and before), so I'm not holding my breath for a response...
I also saw in my searches that the Developers cannot create this application thanks to their agreements with Apple... So its shot down on that front too...
Right now, I am literally using a pen & paper list that I fold up and stick in my shirt pocket like the lead character in "My Name is Earl". There is something inherently wrong about doing that in 2009 when I own an iPhone, but its the only way that works "right"... (iPhone's Notes was actually worse to use than traditional pen & paper)
    Thanks a bunch
    -=J

Wish I could offer a reply, but I'm posting with the same request. I've used and loved Macs since 1985 and the ONLY thing (Apple, are you reading these posts?) - The ONLY thing that keeps me from buying an iPhone is the lack of a to do/task list. I use and like MobileMe's sync features and I'm either at work or at home 99% of the time, so it's not that much of a hindrance. I'm not a "power" cell phone user either, but my Palm Pilot is down to holding a charge for an hour or so before it needs to dock and my motorola phone is losing life on it's 2nd battery, so it would be a great time for me to get an iPhone. But, I'm not going to do it until there is some way to sync with iCal... a stand alone app doesn't do it for me, nor should it. I can't imagine that the map features on an iPhone would be deemed more important than tracking one's to do items, but Apple must still be seeing it that way.
The new update for iPhones doesn't seem to suggest that this feature has been added... I would think they would be trumpeting it on the front page, if they had. I'll just wait......

  • Error message when clicking on links from thunderbird: Firefox.exe – Entry Point Not found

When I click on any link in a Thunderbird email message I get the error message:
Firefox.exe – Entry Point Not found
The procedure entry point ?DllBlocklist_Initialize@@YAXXZ could not be located in the dynamic link library T:\PQligP sFuvy (X86)\pJPpSox HneiCFv\GwCMqTQ.Oqt.
I tried uninstalling Firefox 27 completely and reinstalling it, and the error is still there. When I uninstall V27 and install the older V26 the error disappears. Id there an issue with V27 trying to work with links from Thunderbird?
I am on a laptop running Windows 8.1 with all current downloads.

Thanks for the reply - as best as I can tell it seems to be some kind of incompatibility between Thunderbird V24.3.0 and Firefox V27. If I install Firefox V26 then everything works as it should. I haven't tried installing a previous version of Thunderbird to see if that makes a difference.
