Link ipod to speakers/amp

Hello; old age pensioner alert! My Wife and I have just bought a 16gb Nano ipod from the Apple store here in Lincoln and will soon transfer all our cd's to the unit through our iMac. A really basic question please if we may?
We don't own a hi-fi system, but would like to be able to enjoy listening to our music once stored on the nano through [is it a docking station?] We understand the quality varies and wondered if someone could point us in the right direction please. A unit with speakers and an amp would be great. Maybe a Bose or similar do one??
Many thanks in anticipation

i need to know more details from you:_
1. Do you have an amp. in your car? if yes then connect your iPod via its earphone jack to the audio input of the amp - by using an audio cable (one end a minijack for iPod and RCA for the amp)
2. If you do not have an amp in your car, just buy a set of USB speakers for your iPod

  • Connecting ipod directly to amp in car

i was wondering if connecting my ipod directly to the amp in my car using a cable with rca plugs on one end and a headphone jack on the other would create any problems for my ipod... anyone know?

If you have the direct inputs to accept the audio, then it will not cause a problem.
There are several similar methods to manage this:
Direct connection via the dock connector or headphone jack of your iPod, to the mini-jack input (or AUX RCA input jacks) of your car stereo. Not many low/moderate-end cars have this feature yet, but it is becoming more popular. Some aftermarket auto stereo units may have this feature.
There are also some after-market, moderate to fairly expensive direct interfaces, that hook into your existing car stereo to provide a high-quality, direct connection. Most will also power/charge the iPod. Pretty slick, but can be pricey ($80-$300). If money is no object, a clean way to go. Not very portable from car to car – if at all.

Whichever you choose, power the iPod through your car’s DC power -- either from a power adapter, or as part of the combined audio adaptor. Have a method to secure the iPod to the dash/console/etc. See the reviews for all the various accessories at the iLounge
You will also get better audio output if the dock connection plug is used, rather than the headphone jack. See Sendstation for a novel adaptor called a PocketDock. Others types are also available via this site.

  • Connecting old ipod to stereo amp & volumes

i have connected an old ipod nano 2gb to my main amp and speaker system . The ipod volume is at 100% and is sort of ok to listen to but produces less volume than when using other input sources such as an fm tuner or xm radio. QUESTION: does the age or type of ipod have any imact? will a newer model ipod produce more volume ? Thank you in advancec for an answer.

    hi mike,
i never asked myself about that AGE question but i have a 1º gen ipod shuffle (the usb stick) and i have the same volume problem...
i cant put the ipod volume up to 100% otherwise the sound from my hifi speakers will distort and give a horrible scratchy sound as if it is vibrating of to much bass...
so i let my ipod volume at usual headphone level and turn volume up on my amp using my RCA-3.5" ipod cable - but sometimes i forget to low it back to CD level and when i switch to another source i get heart attacks from the blasting volume
im looking to get a 5º gen ipod nano since i dont need the gadgets of the touch but like to see my song list, which the mini hasnt so since i only have 6gb of mp3, the 8gb model is enought at 140€
i will get back to you to see if the volume distorded sound still persists in NEW ipods

  • Can i charge my iPod with two amps?

I have an iPod nano and was wondering if I could use a charger with a two amp output without breaking it.

As long as the voltage is within spec, yes.

  • Connecting ipod to stereo - music comes from ipod not speakers

I am trying to connect my new ipod nano to a stereo system through the docking system on the stereo. The stereo is able to turn on the ipod and play music - however i hear the music playing through the ipod speakers and not the stereo. Radio or CD play fine through the speakers.
Is the problem the docking system or is there some way in the ipod to tell it to output to an external system? earphones work fine.
    thanks for any help.

I am having the same problem and yes, my instruction booklet states that my automobile is capable of this. When I connect, nothing happens.

  • When I plug my iPod into speakers or earphones, the left speaker or earphone doesn't work

When I plug it into speakers, the left speaker doesn't play anything at all. When I plug it into my earphones, the left earphone plays really low music, static, and REALLY loud bass. My speakers and earphones both work fine with other devices. Any advice?

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Check also Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing. Make sure that the sound balance is not set all the way to "R".
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

  • Are the ipod "bud" speakers compatible with the Bose ones???

All right i have a 1 gb black ipod nano(yes i know im cheap) and I am planning on buying the bose speakers I am wandering if the little bud 25$ speakers are compatible with them and if they are how they hook into them. Thanks for help, Wrestling 76!

how do the speakers connect to the iPod? if it's through the headphone jack, try this:
go to an electronics store and buy a headphone splitter. it has two headphone jacks coming from it, instead of just the one coming from your iPod. you could plug each of your speaker systems into its own headphone jack.
here is an example of a headphone splitter: go to <http://www.nextag.com/headphone-splitter/search-html> personally, i went to Radio Shack and bought the Monster splitter (at the bottom of the first page of the website).
if the speakers connect using a different port, sorry -- can't help.

  • Linked iPods

I recently purchased an iPod and a friend of mine who is now out of town loaded all of his library information onto my iPod. The problem is that now that I have the iPod running on my computer I cannot select any of his songs to play or edit. I also cannot add my own songs to the iPod because it is only updating the original library, which is his "My iPod." Is there something I can do to make his library accessible and mine as well? Here is the message I get, to which I keep selecting NO, because I am assuming I will lose all of his songs once an update is performed.
    Here is my message:
The iPod, "My iPod" is linked to another iTunes music library. Do you want to change the link to this iTunes music library and replace all existing songs and playlists on this iPod with those from this library?

Thanks Otto, So I'm assuming if I do this, I'm copying all of the songs from the iPod to my machine. Once that is complete I will be able to select yes to that error message and reestablish my own libraray of songs?????

  • Linking iPod (60 gig) to a new Mac

hello. my husband's Emac was destroyed in shipment (we have been waiting months to be compensated from the insurance company) and we would like to link his 60 gig iPod to my iBook G4 (14 inch).
meaning, we would like to be able to drag songs from my iTunes library onto his iPod and vice versa. but we are fairly computer illiterate and are worried we will lose all the songs on his iPod - which is especially troublesome as we are abroad and would be lost without tunes.
    THANK YOU!

"i can't drag songs from my husband's iPod into my library then, right? "
That's correct, you can't sync or drag your music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However, when you get a replacement for the eMac or if you wish to create a library for your husband on your Mac then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. I use Senuti but check the others out and choose whichever you are happy with.

  • My ipod thinks speakers are plugged in

I've had my ipod for close to a year now, and today is the first time this problem has happened. When I plug my ipod touch (4th generation) into the speakers (you use the part you charge the ipod to plug into the speakers), my ipod starts using its external speakers instead, and when I unplug the internal speakers, my ipod acts as if the internal speakers are plugged in. exerything on my computer has been updated and such, and I just updated my ipod, too, but this problem is still occuring. Weirdly though, I plugged my ipod into my computer, and now my earphones can work when I plug them in. I also tried to reset my ipod by turning it off for a while, but it turns right back on by itself afterwards. what's happening, and how can I get this to stop?

You headphone jack is defective and needs to be replaced.
