Linked iPods

I recently purchased an iPod and a friend of mine who is now out of town loaded all of his library information onto my iPod. The problem is that now that I have the iPod running on my computer I cannot select any of his songs to play or edit. I also cannot add my own songs to the iPod because it is only updating the original library, which is his "My iPod." Is there something I can do to make his library accessible and mine as well? Here is the message I get, to which I keep selecting NO, because I am assuming I will lose all of his songs once an update is performed.
Here is my message:
The iPod, "My iPod" is linked to another iTunes music library. Do you want to change the link to this iTunes music library and replace all existing songs and playlists on this iPod with those from this library?

Thanks Otto, So I'm assuming if I do this, I'm copying all of the songs from the iPod to my machine. Once that is complete I will be able to select yes to that error message and reestablish my own libraray of songs?????

  • Linking iPod (60 gig) to a new Mac

hello. my husband's Emac was destroyed in shipment (we have been waiting months to be compensated from the insurance company) and we would like to link his 60 gig iPod to my iBook G4 (14 inch).
meaning, we would like to be able to drag songs from my iTunes library onto his iPod and vice versa. but we are fairly computer illiterate and are worried we will lose all the songs on his iPod - which is especially troublesome as we are abroad and would be lost without tunes.
    THANK YOU!

"i can't drag songs from my husband's iPod into my library then, right? "
That's correct, you can't sync or drag your music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However, when you get a replacement for the eMac or if you wish to create a library for your husband on your Mac then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. I use Senuti but check the others out and choose whichever you are happy with.

  • Link iPod With New Library? HELP!

My laptop recently died and now that I am trying to add a movie I just purchased to my ipod it is telling me that I will have to delete the 8 other TV shows I have on my ipod because I downloaded them from my old computer! How is this fair and is there anything I can do to add the new movie without deleting the other shows? Either way I am out $20...
Also... I have authorized this new computer and it didn't help...

Choose not to sync the iPod, select it in iTunes, click on the File menu, and choose Transfer Purchases from iPod. If this command moves the other 8 shows to the library, sync the iPod.

  • Link ipod to speakers/amp

Hello; old age pensioner alert! My Wife and I have just bought a 16gb Nano ipod from the Apple store here in Lincoln and will soon transfer all our cd's to the unit through our iMac. A really basic question please if we may?
We don't own a hi-fi system, but would like to be able to enjoy listening to our music once stored on the nano through [is it a docking station?] We understand the quality varies and wondered if someone could point us in the right direction please. A unit with speakers and an amp would be great. Maybe a Bose or similar do one??
    Many thanks in anticipation

i need to know more details from you:_
    1. Do you have an amp. in your car? if yes then connect your iPod via its earphone jack to the audio input of the amp - by using an audio cable (one end a minijack for iPod and RCA for the amp)
    2. If you do not have an amp in your car, just buy a set of USB speakers for your iPod

  • Want to use an iPod photo configurated for Mac on a PC

I want to use my old iPod photo (configurated for Mac) on a PC (but do not need to keep my songs and photos). Is this possible? If so, what do I do?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iPod 5th generation 60 GB

If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive. Macs can read Windows drives so you could restore and format the iPod on a PC, this would also mean any future software updates would have to be done on Windows. This will erase your drive so you need to have your songs and photos backed up. Alternatively there are third party programs that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows, this is one for instance gets good reviews and has the functionality to let you copy content from the iPod to the PC. Not sure if it does photos but have a look: XPlay 2
You can read another user's experience of using XPlay at this link: iPod on Mac and Windows

how do i make my new one work?
any help would be much appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, granparocks!
i just bought a new 30GB and tried updating it using my existing itunes, which supports a 1 generation ipod.
What version is your "existing iTunes"? The new 5G iPod with Video can only work with iTunes 6 or later. I suggest, if your don't have iTunes 6 upgrade to the latest... available Link: iTunes 6.5 Download.

Reset iPod (will not delete everything)
Check in My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows Vista & 7) and see if it shows

  • Reformat iPod for Windows in disk mode

I've had my 20GB color iPod for about a year now and so far it's only seen macs. I want to reformat it in disk mode for Goddam Windows so I can transfer files. But when I connect to a Goddam Windows computer, iTunes and Goddam Windows don't see it. The iPod is flashing the Don't Disconnect icon, so it knows it's connected.
How do I get the computer to see the iPod so I can reformat?

After your iPod Software is downloaded, perform a restore on your iPod (this will format your iPod to your computer). Do that by:
1 - Plug in your iPod.
2 - Close iTunes if it is currently running.
3 - Go to "START -> All Programs -> iPod -> iPod Updater".
4 - Wait till your iPod shows up in the Updater (hope fully it will).
5 - When it does, click the "Restore" button. This process should take about 5 minutes.
Restoring will delete all the content off your iPod, but will not affect your iTunes library.
If you were not able to complete step 4, then try putting your iPod into disk mode (see this link):

  • IPOD and Windows ME

Hey everyone, quick question. Does anybody know if their are any drivers that I can download so that my Ipod Nano will work on my computer. I have Windows ME, and I guess Ipod isn't compatible with ME. Anyone know of any drivers?

    Anapod Reinitializer 1.0.0
Anapod Reinitializer is a free, lightweight utility for reformatting and reinitializing your iPod. Its function is equivalent to the Restore button in the Apple iPod Updater utility. Anapod Reinitializer runs on all versions of Windows, so it allows Windows 98/ME users (who cannot use Apple's software because it only runs on 2000/XP) to format their iPods.
    Anapod Explorer 8.7.3
Anapod Explorer is hands-down the most advanced Windows software companion for your iPod. Anapod can copy and backup iPod music and playlists to your PC and integrates your iPod into Windows Explorer as a full-fledged device under My Computer, allowing you to transfer files to your iPod as well and use a familiar Explorer interface to manage on-board music, playlists, contacts, notes, and more. Also included are a built-in database called AnapodSQL and a one-of-a-kind web-based streaming interface to your iPod called Anapod Xtreamer.

  • Ipod Nano not recognized on my computer

My iPod Nano doesn't show up on My Computer or in the ITunes store under devices.
A popup recommends reconnecting the device but it does not help.  It then says to uninstall and reinstall Itunes.
This device used to be recognized on a different pc but we changed out pcs.  Is a Nano only supposed to be recognized on only one Pc?

Try one or more of the following
    > Restart your computer
    > Uninstall & Reinstall iTunes - Windows XP | Windows Vista or 7 | Mac OS X
    > Reset iPod (will not delete everything)
    > Go to My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows Vista or 7) and see if iDevice shows
    > Restore iPod (will delete everything)

  • Ipod showes up on windows but not itunes

I am having trouble getting my ipod synced back up with itunes. I have tried everything as far as uninstalling itunes and bonjour and all the others.I also tried updating drivers and a few other suggestions from tech support. I brought my ipod to a friends house and it showed up on his computer. So we tried to see if his ipod would show up on my itunes and it did. Also windows recognizes the ipod but something is keeping the itunes software on my computer from connecting to my ipod touch. Does anyone know why this might be happening? I have tried several places and everyone seems to be stumped.
