Link Slow

We use Cisco1310 at our customer location; the units are installed in the outdoor for a distance of 4 KMS, with external antenna. The link is slow and the TTL on the Ethernet is not stable, the SSID and the WEP key is applied for 40 BIT encryption, tried different channels there were no improvements please suggest

As I stated above and the other guys have as well, check antennae alignments. The best way to align parabolics at long distance is to use a survey theodolite or a high powered spotting scope then tweak in millimeters. Parabolics are extremely directional in their nature. You might also need to do a Fresnel Zone clearance calculation to insure at least 60% of the Fresnel Zone is occlusion free. There are excellent tools available from Cisco on bridge links, Fresnel Zones, and free space attenuation. For a good overview of RF propagation go to the Cisco Antenna Reference page on the website.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/wireless/ps7183/ps469/product_data_sheet09186a008008883b.html
You should verify signal strength with Airmagnet or Spectrum Expert at each end after verification of alignment and Fresnel.
Lastly, 1300 Series bridges are in the 2.4 spectrum which is highly oversubscribed at this time. With 802.11n becoming more prevalent, 5ghz will soon suffer the same. I would still consider 5ghz (more non overlapping channels) or a alternative licensed spectrum solution depending on the mission criticality of the applications that depend on the bridge. We offer several alternative solutions at our company and I am sure that your partner or one in your area should offer the same.

  • Has CS6 fixed the PPro with AE dynamic links slow to render problems?

I've got PPro with AE dynamic links slow to render problems similar to those discussed in this thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/904652?start=0&tstart=0
As I understand it (and I could well be wrong), if I render a PPro project that has AE projects dynamically linked in (anything from simple lower thirds to color grading), during rendering the AE bits run as a service, which limits the AE bits to a single CPU and effectively stops simultaneous rendering of multiple frames. This is why I can get very high render times (essentially no parallel processing), and why messing with the number of CPUs allowed for simultaneous frame rendering, or the amount of RAM said CPUs can access, has little to no effect on total render time.
Supposedly as some point AE was going to be changed such that it used Media Encoder to do it's rendering (same as PPro does), thus speeding up rendering for any PPro project that has AE parts dynamically linked in.
Has this been done in CS6? If not, any idea when that's scheduled to happen?

(I do wish Adobe staff would keep this distinction mind when creating their videos.  When I saw one about the new background rendering in PP, I was interested, only to learn that he was actually talking about background exporting, a feature PP has had since AME was introduced in CS4.)
The distinction is not so distinct, and this is an industry issue, not really Adobe. After Effects has a render queue, which is used for exporting, but you can also export. Lightwave has this, even Avid. The terms do have their own distinct meanings, but of course context is usually required. So usually "rendering previews" or "rendering final output" serve as context-sensitive uses of the term.
Terminology abuse is widespread, even people with video cameras now call themselves "filmmakers" and people who produce films never shown nor intended for a cinema call themselves "cinematographers." ENG video producers are called "photogs" and news photographers are called "photojournalists."
Transcoding, encoding, rendering, exporting....mish-mashed unfortunately, but thankfully most people can figure out what's meant.
Back to the OP - After Effects can be used with Adobe Media Encoder, it's just not the default. You can import any composition into AME from AE and render your encoded export.
As for background rendering....I remember when Pinnacle Liquid was the first to the table with that feature back in 2004 or 2005. It seemed awesome, except that you needed a ton of spare hard drive space and lots of processing to keep the background rendering going...effecitvely your processor was in use 100% of the time. When you weren't scrubbing or playing back, Liquid was rendering previews. Of course, you could use those previews during export but you rarely would have wanted to do so, since it was better quality to reference the original data when compositing the layers and effects to output to a web file, for instance. Then  you had to keep cleaning up the preview cache.
I rarely render previews at all, and when I do it's just a small segment at a time, just to get a full look at the final composite. Mercury Playback is usually more than capable of playing back most of my edits the rest of the time.

  • Link Slow and goes away

My Z30 is the better mouse trap!
However Link has a long way to go to obtain the level of performance of DM. Only syncing Contacts and Calendar is short of the mark.
Link is slow - takes 25 minutes to one-way sync my Outlook data (standalone.) BTW that's on a Win 8 machine with i7 2.4 GHz etc.
On a few occassions I'll walk away and do other things while it does it thing, only to come back and find that it must have stopped at the notice screen (which is a non-statement) and has shut down without updating my device?
Hope BB gets that straight sooner than later - I know everyone has been asking for it.

  • Dynamic Link slow in After Effect CC 2014 (Version 13.0)

So been waiting & hoping for an update from Adobe on the 2014 versions of AE & PP that fixes this massive slowdown of AE comps in PP and nothing has happened in 2 months!
So can anyone at Adobe tell me why AE now runs so slowly in PP when the previous version ran AE comps quickly on my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2048 MB . I'm keen to know especially as just spent £500 switching from an ATI Radeon card that does not support CUDA to Nvidia just to get the GPU acceleration with CUDA and a few weeks later the 2014 upgrade comes out and I loose all the new speed!

I found this reference to a bug fix in AE 13.1
"slow rendering of After Effects compositions used in Premiere Pro through Dynamic Link when the main After Effects application is open"
I think I was getting slow rendering even with AE closed, but let's see...

  • Link Slow CISCO 1300

    Hi,
We have a customer link for a distance of 10 kms outdoor installation, for the past two days the link is slow, suspect antenna alingment and asked the customer to observe ,attached is the link status can you suggest for better performance.

Did you take SNR readings when the system was first installed? Your SNR values are very low, being at -79. You want that to be much higher, around -70 or above (less negative) if possible. You can have a rock-solid connection at -65dBm.
Without knowing what it's been in the past, it's hard to say whether this is an alignment issue or an antenna issue. If you have appropriately-sized antennas, then yes, I would look into realigning them.

  • Does Adobe Dynamic Links slow down the rendering process ?

    Hello everybody,
I have a question concerning Adobe Dynamic Links.
    This is my problem :
I work on After Effects. I have a composition that is rendered quite fast. (almost in real time...)
But when I open the linked comp in Premiere Pro, it lags as hell. Maybe 2x, 3x slower.
So I'd like to know why Adobe Premiere Pro is slow, while After Effects is fast ?
    Is this normal ?
What can I do about it ?
    Thanks,
    Regards.

Because you wouldn't want After Effects to take over all resources from Premiere Pro when you are working primarily in Premiere Pro and just using After Effects as a helper application through Dynamic Link.
But I primarly see this when I'm exporting via AME. This pulls in not only PPro, but also AE, etc., all through DL. And everything comes to a halt whenever a lower third shows up to be rendered, because AE serializes the process. So my eight core processor becomes a one core processor until that seven seconds or so of footage goes by. And that, is silly. Sorry to have to call it what it is. And it's a serious performance problems that Adobe should address and fix. Truly.
I guess my "real" question is, why is this an Abobe problem in the first place? This is, or at least should be, an OS resource allocation and scheduling problem. Same as memory allocation should be handled by the OS's Virtual Memory system and not by Adobe. I was taught that problems like this were the whole point behind the a multi-tasking scheduler.  Yeah, I know -- back then we had Unix and VMS, and today we have Windows and OSX. This is... progress?

  • Cable modem link slowness w ISA570 and CLI "show tech" equivalent

Hi, I'm helping out a non profit that has a Mediacom 100mbs link, they get 90+ Speed connected directly to the cable modem, but anywhere past the ISA570 they only get 50-60mbs. They have switched cables, added a separate port, tried different PCs, results are the same, 50-60 mbs max.
Also it's their understanding the ISA570 can't do CLI, so how can they get the equivalent of a 'show tech' command to a file to send offsite for troubleshooting,
    Thanks.
    Jim

    Hello,
There is something similar to show tech on the ISA.
Log into the web GUI, go to Device Management >> Cisco Services & Support >> Send Diagnostics.  At the bottom of that page is a Download button that will collect the config file, the logs, and some debug outputs into a zip file.  You can use this to troubleshoot the device, although I usually prefer to be on the live device itself to look at things.
Before you dig too deep into those however, what kind of security services do you currently have enabled on the ISA?   I was looking over the datasheet and while the SPI is capable of ~500mbps, when you start to enable the various security services those speeds start to drop.
If we look at the UTM (Unified Threat Management) throughput measures, that is at about 75mbps, which is fairly close to what you are getting.  I would go through and disable the various security services one at a time and test your speed.  My guess would be either A/V or IPS is slowing your connection down.  It may be one or a combination of these services causing the slowdown.  You can disable those options, or just explain that the extra security will cost a bit of speed.
    Hope that helps a bit,

  • AE/Pr dynamic link issues: lost links, slow renders

I use dynamic links to scoot AE comps into Pr timelines quite a bit. I like the feature because: a) inevitably a lot of tweaking and revising of comps tends to go on, b) it saves disk space and file management, c) it is easily adjustable from within Pr (right click > edit original).
Lately however, I've noticed some misbehaviour in my beloved dynamic links. When both Pr and AE are open Pr is slow to render the AE dynamic links. Like, really slow. 5 - 10 seconds per frame of basic CC and masking in AE. When I close AE the renders speed right up to what I would call 'normal' speed. A couple of frames a second. The only problem is when I close AE while Pr is open, Pr loses it's dynamic links. They appear offline the moment AE closes and to continue working with them have to relink, or if I save and exit Pr and reopen the dynamic links magically appear linked again. Any idea what is going on and more importantly how to fix it?
Vital stats as follows: OSX 10.9.1, AE 12.2.0.52, Pr 7.2.1 (4). Material AVCHD native, with matching timeline settings.

If you think something doesn't work the way you think it should, filing a feature request is a good way to push it towards happening.
Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form
I'd suggest posting over on the AE forum for the AE people to look at the rest of it.

  • After effects CC on maverick slow render because of PP CC Dynamic Link Footage

I put premiere pro CC edits in After Effects CC through dynamic Link every day. Since I upgraded my systems to Maverick and first installed the 12.0.1 and afterwards 12.1 the rendering of the After effects projects that have Dynamic Link Edits on the timeline slow down from 10 hours (in12.0 on Mountain Lion) to about 90 hours. When I replace the dynamic Link with a QT Movie, it renders about 10 hours again. It is normal that Dynamic link slows dow the rendering, but this is extreme and since this wasn't the case on Mountain Lion and 12.0 for the same project with the same dynamic link, not normal. I couldn't figure out what causes this. Is this Maverick on my 2008 Mac Pro ? is this a bug in 12.1 or dynamic link ? Or can I solve this with a simple setting somewhere in Maverick or AE ?

I'm was having the same issues, turned off "app nap" for premiere and after effects which has mostly fixed things.
The only thing now though is if I have a dynamic linked after effects composition within premiere and I have the after effects project open (that the composition came from) the dynamic linked comp within premiere won't play properly no matter what.
Tried everything I can find on the net - app nap, full screen full res rendering within after effects - that composition just won't play and take ages to render if the after effects project that it came from is open.
If I close the after effects project, the dynamically linked composition in premiere starts playing perfectly. Open the project in after effects and that dynamically linked comps stop playing. Any other dynamically linked comps from other AE sessions play fine within premiere (unless I open their original AE project!)
This used to work fine before - it was great to be able to have AE and premiere open together and make changes in AE then switch to premiere to see the changes update, watch the sequence to get context, then flick back to AE, make more changes etc.
Now I have to close the AE project, go to premiere, watch the sequence, open the AE project, make changes. When doing a few hundred adjustments over a week this can add considerable time to workflow!
Any ideas? Is this happening for you guys?

  • FF_6 drastically slowed connections to links. How to fix?

FF-4 was fast. Upgraded to FF-6 and immediately downloads of links slowed drastically. Contacted support (GURUAID) who tried to sell me on paid service and refused to put me back to 4. They refused to give contact tel. no. for Mozilla authority and would not give name and/or tel. # of their executive that could or would help. I have been told there is a scam involving the program and wonder if this is it? Please have someone contact me as my suspicions have been alerted and I plan to go to congressman, TV, radio, newspaper and internet to tell my story if I can not get help!

1 - Select  the thumbnail of one of the problem photos and use the File ➙ Reveal in Finder ➙ Original menu option.  This will take you to the folder containing the original file with that file selected by the Finder.
You can also use Find Any File to search for that file (get the file name from the Info pane in iPhoto). You will find the thumbnail version and maybe an edited version also.  Made sure what is found is the large, original version and note were it's located.  Search all of your drives with FAF just in case.
If you don't fine the full sized version then the only recourse is to use a file recovery application like   SubrosaSoft FileSalvage on your drives to see if any of your full sized photos can be recovered.   If you find enough files to make the purchase of the software worthwhile buy it and recover the files.  However, since it may have been quite a while since you discovered the missing originals it seems unlikely you'll be able to recover any due to being overwritten.
2 - book projects are just entries in the library databases and can't be exported to another library.

  • Java.rmi.NoSuchObjectException with custom InputStream/OutputStream

I'm experiencing a strange problem here...and have spent the night digging for an answer,
    but I don't see any...
I am using a custom client/server socket factory, which works great until I return my
custom In/Out streams from the custom Socket. I can return a BufferedInputStream
wrapping the socket's InputStream, but if I write a subclass BufferedInputStream
(and override no methods) I get the NoSuchObjectException...
    any ideas?
    public class BInputStream extends java.io.BufferedInputStream {
      private InputStream in = null;
      public BInputStream(InputStream in) {
        super(in);
        this.in = in;
    }

What I am trying to do (and have done with the minor limitation that I cannot use
custom streams to compress the RMI traffic...) is create a totally transparent proxy
    for RMI services.
The Proxy object is for any Remote object. A Proxy is returned to the client
containing a Remote Invoker that is called by the Proxy's InvocationHandler.
Since this is for a known environment, there is no need for dynamic class loading,
so the JVMs must all have the classes to talk to one another...
A <---> B <---> CI want to, now, compress the A <--> B link, because it is over a saturated link, and
a cursory look at the actual data tells me I can compress 300k, which is a standard
transaction size (after pruning classpath entries from the clients), to around 40k
(conservative estimate). Obviously, this is a huge improvement in any environment,
but an especially appealing one considering the fact that this link slows, literally, to
a crawl at times. I already have the inflate/deflate streams worked out as far as I can
test them, so all I need to do is get past this current stumbling block and test the
compression bits in an environment more representative of the deployment env.
Anyway, that's the highest level goal :-)
So, a question...to confirm what I believe I found earlier that led me into this bowl
of noodles (really, it's not that bad, except that I can't debug the code once
it wanders off into RMI land, which may indicate a problem in my design :-P)...
[after some more time poking around to make sure I'm not asking a stupid
    question]
It seems my spaghetti (the exporting of the Invoker inside of the InvocationHandler)
is necessary for the transparency I desire. As it turns out, I know enough now to
find useful information from google on this subject :-) That's some progress!
It seems springframework has something exactly like the server half of my
system, so I'm gonna take a look at that as I wind this day down.
    cheers.

  • Is limiting network speed by setting adapter speed good? [SOLVED: yes]

i have an arch NAT router PC which has 3 network adapters present; "external" for my cable modem interface, "internal" for an internal subnet 172.16.0.0/16, and "wifi" which is a separate internal subnet 192.168.192.0/24 open wifi that I recently setup for guests and the like. the open wifi is explicitly barred access to the 172 network with iptables. i currently have a 50mbps down/10mbps up comcast internet connection. i have been limiting the open wifi's speed by setting the NIC designated for it to 10 mbps, just so that all of my bandwidth isn't completely eaten up. this appears to work completely fine; realistic speed is measured to around 8mbps throughput, which I consider fine for basic internet access.
i'm just curious whether this is an appropriate method to restrict bandwidth speed? i've read about something called "qdisc" which could limit speeds within iptables, is this a better way to accomplish this?

Luckily you are in the position of having a whole link that you want a hard limit on.
tc is more for traffic control between source and destination of packets going over the same link, or dynamic stuff. However, it will never be as trusted as a link set to a slower bit rate, and can be a pain to manage/T-Shoot.
Over the WAN traffic control is normally done with switching protocols like ATM and MPLS. However, even on large networks clients may be rate limited by the network admin simply setting the speed of their link slower in the configuration then what it can really handle.

  • Mounting Time Capsule drive - total newbie question

I'm a total Mac newbiew, so please bear with me.
There are alot of threads in this forum that talk about 'manually mounting' a time capsule drive. What is this manual mounting, what's the point of doing it, and how do you do it?
My Time Capsule shows up under the Shared menu in Finder and I can access it from there. Is access to the disk via this link slower than mounting it or something?
Lastly, my TC is connected to my Mac Mini via an ethernet cable. How can I check that the Mac is talking to the TC disk via this connection rather than over the wireless network that the TC is providing?

By "mounting" people are meaning seeing the Time Machine disk icon actually showing on the desktop. I can only think of 2 reasons for this, 1) time saving if people use the disk for other purposes as well as Time Machine and need to access it regularly, and 2) If it mounts, it proves you have connectivity.
Doing it from the finder sidebar is effectively the same thing, only you are doing it instead of getting the system to do it. Your initial access to the drive may be noticeably slower for a couple of seconds until it mounts is all, nothing worth worrying about
See here for more info if you are interested in mounting it automatically:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1446928
As for your last question, unless your wireless and wired connection talk to different networks, then turn off your wireless and used the wired connection.
