Link to a file folder in a form

Hello,
in my form i have to create an url which shows to a file folder such as
C:\Documents and Settings\vondunu\001 (this is not a static text, the number will be created when the region is commited)
How can i make this 'C:\Documents and Settings\vondunu\001' to a link in a field in my form and the customer can click this url and the file folder opens in another browser window?
Thanks for your help
Uta

Hi Ben,
Yes, there are definitely security implications. It works ok with IE and FF if you are opening local folders. It won't work if you're trying to access files/folders from remote servers - we tried to open folders from other servers on our domains and it wouldn't do it.
You can, as you say, edit settings to get around this (and, yes please, I'd like to see what settings you're changing). You can also "log in" to the remote system using login/password parameters in the url - but, as you quickly realise, this is even less secure!
In some instances, you can get around it by changing the url slightly:
file://localhost\c:/etc
This sometimes tricks the browser into thinking you're accessing files from the local machine. Another alternative, which we couldn't use, was to map a drive on your machine - again, this only worked sometimes.
I could not find a solution that worked in all situations. Fortunately, for us, we got our users to login to our networks remotely using F5 and this allowed access to files.

  • Link Multiple AAF files (used to work in cs6)

    Hi,
    On importing multiple AAF files it used to be possible to link all aaf files at once...
    Now the import function only links "one original files folder" a time.
    This means I have to locate every AAF (with different original files folder) manually
    All files to be re linked are in the same folder...
    Am I overlooking something.
    I would like to downgrade to cc 6.? but i can't find a download link?
    Thank you
    Regards
    Hans

    I'm not sure I understand.  Did you move the files from their original locations into a single folder?  Are you trying to relink files that have already been imported into a project?  Or are you trying to import files for the first time?
    Here's the download link for CS6: Download CS6 products
    Cheers,

  • Links according to the folder where the file is?

    I have this script that I found here on this forum and would like to change it so that when you execute it according to relink the file name
    # target illustrator
    linkReplacer function ( ) {
         var = orginalUIL app.userInteractionLevel ;
         app.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevel.DONTDISPLAYALERTS ;
         if ( app.documents.length == 0 ) {
              alert (' Please have an " Illustrator " document open before running this script . ' ) ;
              return;
         Else { }
              docRef = app.activeDocument ;
         defaultFolder var = new Folder ( ' ~ / Desktop ' ) ;
         psdFolder defaultFolder.selectDlg var = ( ' Please select the folder of your replacement files ');
         if ( psdFolder == null) return ;
         with ( docRef ) {
              placedFiles var = new Array ( ) ;
              for (var i = 0; i < placedItems.length : i + +) {
                   placedFiles.push ( placedItems [i]. file.name );
              for (var j = 0 j < placedItems.length j + +) {
                   var replace = new File ( psdFolder.fsName + '/' + placedFiles [ j ] ) ;
                   if ( rePlace.exists ) {
                        placedItems [ j ] . file = Replace ;
                   Else { }
                        alert ( 'File " ' + placedFiles [ j ] + " ' is missing ');
         app.userInteractionLevel = orginalUIL ;
    linkReplacer ();
    for example
    filename > TESTE_0000_CLOSED_01
    link contained in the file > TESTE_0000_INDEX
    link contained in the file folder ( TESTE_0000_CLOSED_01 ) is TESTE_0000_INDEX_01
    after running the file the link is > TESTE_0000_INDEX_01
    I do not know if I was clear is complicated to explain
    when run this script searches the linked item in the folder where it is saved, like that instead he relink the file contained in the folder under the file name

    Hi,
    Thanks for all the quick replies!
    If I use Application.ExecutablePath I get:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Definicoes locais\App2\2.0\EG5PGYGH.6NX\.....\App.exe
    I published the application in a Tools folder and I need to go up in the path to refer to other folders in the same directory as the Tools.
    So I have a Directory named Application and folders inside: Tools (where I publish the application), SO, Acet, Others. As I will copy the application to another computer while maintaining the same folder structure I need to get the path till the Tools (with
    or without the executable name).
    Any other hint, please?
    Thanks.

  • How to create a dynamic link in a Form to link to a specific FOLDER

    Hello,
    I have created a reports of all employees of my department.
    This reports shows me the empno and ename
    When I clicked on a empno ( for example empno = 1 ) then then I got a MASTER DETAIL FORM about that employee(empno = 1) .
    Who he or she is and which course he or she had followed.
    I want create a dynamic link in the MASTER DETAIL FORM which shows me directly the folder of that employee ( in this example folder 1 ).
    If I clickt on the report with all employees of my department on an other number ( for example empno = 3333333) then if I click on the dynamic link in the MASTER DETAIL FORM I want to see the folder of employee 3333333 !!! You know what I mean ?
    What I want to know is, how to create a dynamic link that shows me directly a folder which is dependent on which empno I had clicked on in the report ( report with employee numbers and ename )
    Is there any way to pass some parameters into a link to a Folder ? Is this possible in Portal ? Does anyone know how to do this, or do you have a suggestion how to solve this problem ?
    Thanks a lot !!!
    Chu Lam

    Hi Chetan,
    I am glad that someone had replied on my question.
    I will explain it to you again.
    I have created a report that shows me all employees. If I click on a employee number then I get an MASTER DETAIL FORM on my screen with all the information(where he works now and which number I have to dial ifhow can I reach him by telephone) of that employee on which number I clicked on.
    I really like this mechanism. (You click on a number and the information that you see in the next screen is dependent of the number you clicked on ! )I have created all this. It works fine.
    What I want is to expand this example.
    Every employee has a FOLDER (yes, those ones in Content Area ) which they can insert text or image into that folder. The folder name is just the employee number. ( employee with employee number 3303, he owns a folder which is named 3303 and an employee with empno 9999, he or she owns a folder with the name 9999. )
    Every employee can tell more about himself in that FOLDER by iserting text and images. For example : What he likes, pictures of his vacation, something like this.
    What I want is this :
    If I click on the first report,which provides me all employees on screen, on a employee number 3303 then I get a Master Detail Form on my screen with all information about that employee with employee number 3303. And I want in this MASTER DETAIL FORM to create a link that shows me directly the FOLDER of that employee ( 3303), so I can learn more about employee with employee number 3303. But I don't know how to create this link.
    That link had to be dependent on the employee number. The difficult thing about this link is that this link had to be dynamic.
    I hope this will make it clear to you :
    (report all employees:)
    empno ename
    3301 john smith
    3302 peter clark
    3303 wilson jones
    If I click on a empno ( for example 3303) then I get a MASTER DETAIL FORM which provides me information.
    (MASTER DETAIL FORM )
    EMPNO 3303
    ENAME wilson jones
    department New York
    mobile number 98908763
    Company tel. no day
    AOL 097485838 monday till wednesday
    Oracle 04848584333 thursday and friday
    LINK
    (what I want is to create a link here )
    If I click on LINK in this MASTER DETAIL FORM then I want to link to the FOLDER of this employee ! ( In this example it is FOLDER 3303.
    BUT IF I CLICKED ON THE FIRST REPORT ON A DIFFERENT NUMBER ( FOR EXAMPLE 3301) THEN IF I CLICK ON LINK IN THE MASTER DETAIL FORM THEN I HAVE TO LINKED TO FOLDER 3301.
    I just want to know how to make a link like this ( create a dynamic link to a specific folder ).
    Thanks in Advance.

  • HT1751 After "Restoring iTunes Library Backup" it wont link to the files in the iTunes folder. I've followed the correct procedure, and iTunes lists all my music correctly (but with no artwork), but can't locate any of the files. Using Windows 7. Help ple

    After "Restoring iTunes Library backup" it wont link to the files in the iTunes folder. I've followed the procedure as described, and the iTunes folder is in the correct location. iTunes lists all my music correctly (albeit with no artwork), but can't locate any of the files.
    I've been restoring my iTunes folder from a backup hard drive to a new computer on which I've downloaded the latest iTunes (10.7). If this is a newer version than the one I backed up with could this be the problem? (I had the latest (to my knowledge) iTunes when I backed up the folder about 3 weeks ago, was this version 10.7?)
    Or is the version of iTunes (within recent updates) not an issue when restoring a library?
    Using Windows 7.
    Any help please?

    From the top of the page where the scripts live...
    The general method of use is to download the script to a folder of your choice, e.g. your Desktop, Downloads folder or create a folder at ...\iTunes\Scripts. Select a playlist or highlight some tracks in iTunes and then double-click on the script to execute it. If no specific tracks are selected the script will try to work with all tracks in the current playlist. Some scripts offer a choice of track by track confirmation of changes or fully automatic processing of the selection. Many of the scripts can optionally display a progress bar while running.
    You are strongly advised to backup your entire library, or at the very least the iTunes Library.itl file, before use. Test the behaviour of your chosen script on a small group of files first to make sure it does what you want before applying it to large numbers of files.
    Most builds of Windows will execute *.vbs scripts when you double-click them. If that doesn't happen then you might need to visit the Add/Remove Programs or Programs & Features control panel to enable the Windows Scripting Host. I can track down details if you have issues.
    Backing up and restoring data is an area that is often glossed over. Most people don't try to learn much about it until they've lost something important. (Me too )
    If your iTunes library was in the usual layout then normally copying the whole iTunes folder from the User's Music folder in the old computer to the User's Music folder in the new one will usually work fine. Ideally this is done before iTunes is installed so that there is no empty library to replace, and all settings are picked up from the old library. This post contains more details.

    Hi, thank you for your replies, I found out few things about my servlet, and its portability
    and i have few questions, although i marked this topic as answered i guess its ok to post
    I am using javax.servlet.context.tempdir to store my files in that servletcontext temporary directory. But i dont know how to give hyperlink
    of the modified files to the user for them to download the modified files.
    What i am using to get the tempdir i will paste
    File baseurl = (File)this.getServletContext().getAttribute("javax.servlet.context.tempdir");
    System.out.println(baseurl);
    baseurl = new File(baseurl.getAbsolutePath()+File.separator+"temp"+File.separator+"files");
    baseurl.mkdirs();so i am storing my files in that temp/files folder and the servlet processes them and modifies them, then how to present them as
    links to the user for download ?
    and as the servlet is multithreaded by nature, if my servlet gets 2 different requests with same file names, i guess one of them will be overwritten
    And i want to create unique directory for each request made to the servlet , so file names dont clash.
    one another thing is that i want my servlet to be executed by my <form action> only, I dont want the user to simply type url and trigger the servlet
    Reply A.S.A.P. please..
    Thanks and regards,

  • Trouble With Links to Network Files Within Online PDF

    I posted this at the end of someone else's thread who had a similar problem but it may have gotten lost in the shuffle. Either that or no one has an answer. Here goes...
    I create a Word document that contains links to network files (tested and working) and convert the document to a PDF. The links still function in the PDF when I test them. However, when someone opens the document from our intranet, the file:/// is replaced with some form of a relative link, either to a users C: drive or to an http:// directory. If I then go into the PDF and change the link action from Open File to Open Web Link and provide the full file:/// path, everything works as intended. This really wouldnt be a big deal if I was the one maintaining the document or if it were an occasional thing. The problem is that updating or adding a link to the document means correcting the existing links all over again. This is very cumbersome for the user who maintains the document.
    I'm using Acrobat 8 Professional. Any ideas?

    I'm having a similiar issue with cross platform (Vista to Mac OS X 10.5) file linking. We currently store indesign files on a folder in a shared drive (the mac unix path to the drive is /Volumes/SharedDrive and the vista path is Z:\) and link assets in the document to another folder stored on the shared drive. Note that all linked assets are not stored in the same location on the shared drive, for instance a linked image could be deep in the folder structure (/Volumes/SharedDrive/Marketing/Images/Fall09/example.jpg).
    The Vista computer references files differently than the mac on the shared drive, it seems to mount the network drive directly on the root level rather than in the /Volumes folder. I've tried to symlink the graphics folder (the one containing all the linked assets) to the root level of the hard drive (ln -s /Volumes/SharedDrive/Graphics /Graphics) but when we tried relinking the assets InDesign figured out it was a symlink and resolved the path to the absolute path. Is there some sort of configuration option in mac to mount this windows drive (it is on SBS Windows 2003) in a way that won't cause linking conflicts between mac and pc? Any thoughts are much appreciated!
    Thank you for all your help!

  • RH9 TOC Links to PDF files are quirky

    I have a project that consists of TOC book links to PDF files. In RH6 I always just manually popped them into the \!SSL!\WebHelp folder and linked to them from TOC books because importing them into the project took days. Or 20 minutes at least. Some of these files were 300 pages, so I manually loaded the smaller files too, to maintain procedural consistency. Either way, manually loading them is fastest so it just makes sense.
    I'm doing this in RH9, and it works just fine in the live project. The problem is in Robohelp. No sooner do I close the project and reopen it, but all the books have question marks with crosses through them as if they have broken links. They do not.  The links are STILL fine, and when I compile the project they open, just as they should. In RH6 this wasn't remotely an issue.
    Is this a bug? I went back and redid the links twice before realizing it wasn't me, it was Robohelp. So whenever I open a project that has a TOC book link to an outside file, like a .pdf, or .ppt, or xls or whatever, is this going to happen? I lose visual clues for the broken links because they ALL appear to be broken?

    Hi Maureen
    I used to encounter this all the time with RoboHelp X5. And it coaxed me into developing what I feel is an interesting and more reliable approach.
    Have you noticed that even on a fast intranet it seems to take an inordinate amount of time to open a PDF? I mean, with most of your topics, the user clicks and nearly instantly something happens. The topic generally loads right up in the topic pane. But a PDF, Word document or other file seems to take eons to load. Well, comparatively.
    So I developed this thing I referred to as a "docfetch". Basically, I created regular RoboHelp topics. Linked those topics to the books pages or whatever. Then configured those topics to redirect to the PDF, Word document or other.
    The expected benefit was that because I was now actually linking to topics in the project, those funky mysteriously broken links in the TOC disappeared. The unexpected side benefit was that users then saw an immediate response to clicking the link. I configured each of these topics to present some verbiage to the effect that they should please wait as the document was being opened. This put a stop to users reporting that things were "broken" as they then saw an immediate response.
    The code you need will be placed in the HTML of the topic. Just insert it somewhere in the Head area.
    <meta HTTP-EQUIV=refresh CONTENT="3;URL=File_Name.pdf">
    Of course you will want to adjust it to suit your own needs. For example, the line above is configured for a 3 second delay. You may want a shorter (or longer) delay. And you would adjust File_Name.pdf to reflect the path and file name of the PDF (or other file) you are linking to.
    Hope this helps... Rick

  • 0x8004005 / Error: Configuration file is not well-formed XML

    Hello,
    I am getting a complete headache from this! I uninstalled Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate and installed in on another hard drive. Since then nothing works! It seems to be an error with IIS...
    The following happens:
    When I want to create ASP.NET Empty Web Application:
    When I ceate an ASP.NET MVC 4 Web Application
    When I open an existing project:
    similar to first screenshot, can only upload 2 images...
    I already tried the following:
    Reinstalling Visual Studio Ultimate 2013
    Reinstalling IIS Express 8
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    In order to resolve your problem. You should give us some information:
    First, is there any error occur when you install the VS or do you can successfully install the VS? You can use
    http://aka.ms/vscollect to gather the latest installation logs. After using it, you will find vslogs.cab from %temp% folder. Please upload the file to
    https://Onedrive.live.com/ and share the link here.
    Second, the error may related to .NET FrameWork. You can use the tool in the link to check the .NET Framework Setup:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx
    If there are something wrong, you should repair the .NET framework.
    At last, there is a blog related to the error, you can follow up to handle your issue:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/acoat/archive/2013/04/23/iisexpress-configuration-file-is-not-well-formed-xml.aspx

  • My iTunes library is on an old computer. Not enough memory to consolidate the associated MP3 files. Transferred library to new computer. How can I add the MP3's without having to re load every file / folder again? Thanks.

    Hello, I'm trying to transfer my iTunes library from an old computer with small hard drive to a new windows 8 laptop.  Much of my library consists of links to MP3/ 4 files etc but there isn't enough harddrive memory to consolidate the files into iTunes music folder.  I downloaded the library onto an external hardrive and have installed it on the new computer.  All files that were in iTunes music (now iTunes Media file) work fine.  I have transferred over all my MP3 files but of course iTunes library wont play the file as there is no established link to the file and it asks whether iTunes should locate the file. I don't want to have to import every MP3 file/ folder all over again and then delete the unlinked entries in iTunes as this will take way too much time.  Is there a way to sync all of these MP3 files to iTunes automatically or do I need to go back to start and somehow try and put the library back onto the hard drive and get the files consolidated to that from my old computer?  Any help most gratefully recieved. Thanks.

    The files that weren't inside the media folder on the original machine need to be copied over to exactly the same paths as they had on the source machine. See this thread for an ongoing discussion of a similar problem. See also this post on migrating the iTunes library.

  • Problem creating a link to a network folder

    I am working with a SharePoint 2010 site. Due to not being able to utilize SharePoint Designer, I am limited to editing the site by first navigating to the SharePoint site and then selecting edit page from the site options menu.
    I have a table setup and there are two cells within the table that I want to have linked to different network folders. The first cell has 'operations brief' in it, and after researching how to establish a link to a network folder, I learned that I could
    do it by inserting a link and pointing to file://servername. In this situation, I highlighted the text and then selected insert and link from address option. I typed in
    file://Y:\Operations%20Brief\2013 into the URL field. After saving the site, I tested the link and it successfully opened the network folder.
    I then followed the same procedure for another network folder named Quick Reference Card. The only difference between the operations brief folder and the quick reference card folder is that the quick reference card folder has parentheses and numbers - Y:\(8)Library\Quick
    Reference Card (QRC). I am not understanding why when I view the site out of editing mode, I can click on the operations brief folder and have it open. When I click the Quick Reference Card link, nothing happens. The text appears as a hyperlink -- it's in
    blue and is underlined.
    I've removed the link and re-added it several times, only to get the same result. I can't figure out why one link works, and why another one doesn't even though I'm sure I created the second link the same way I created the first link.

    Hi,
    I have followed the same procedure what you followed, it is working as expected and both the links are working fine.  The following is the HTML SOURCE from the content editor web part.  Please verify your HTML source from the content editor part.

  • Creating a link to a file on a Windows server?

    I am trying to create a link to a file located on a Windows server that I can email to users and they can click on the link and it will open the actual file.
    Here is what I have done so far:
    smb://server/sharedfolder/document.doc
    The user can click on the link but it just opnes up the "sharedfolder" and then you have to find the file you want and then open it and that works.
    I need the link to be able to just open the actual file.
    Is there a way to do this??
    Thanks

    Since it's a file download, there's no reason to add the target="_blank", I'm guessing your file is 404 for some reason which would give you a blank window per the target.
    Make sure the case structure of the file and link are identical. Servers are case sensitive, a server sees CheckIPApp.zip and checkIPApp.zip as totally different files. Your local OS sees them as the same thing so during local testing it will work, when uploaded, it won't.
    Make sure you've loaded the file onto the server at the exact location specified by the link. It should be in a folder called "Zip Files" that resides on the same directory level as the page that the link is on.
    You may also want to normalize your file names. They should be all lower case alpha-numerics without any spaces (use hyphens or underscores instead) and without special characters ($%&*). You can use DW's Files window to change names and DW will fix the links automatically.
