LINK to Database with different GLOBAL_NAME

Could anybody help me? We have two databases with different GLOBAL_NAME parameter. First database has GLOBAL_NAME=true, second - 'false'. I would like to make LINK from first database to second. If I make link name as a simple word ('DBST'- for example), ORACLE adds DOMAIN name and connects with error ORA-02085. Second database doesn't use DOMAIN name.
Thanks

Looks like very difficult and inform you mgmt about the drawbacks of running olderv ersions
may be you can try something like this but i dont know whether it is supported or not
    db_file_name_convert=['/dev/vx/dsk/suportaldg/oracle3','/dev/vx/dsk/suportaldg/STDBY/oracle3']
    db_file_name_convert=['/dev/vx/dsk/suportaldg/oracle4','/dev/vx/dsk/suportaldg/STDBY/oracle4']

  • Unable to copy database with different name in the same instance

I had a huge database and wanted to try some change optimization changes.
So wanted to make a copy of the database along with data in the same instance.
I have tried copy database wizard several times but always see the error as in attachment.
Can someone let me know how to troubleshoot further?
If this is not the correct way please suggest how do i copy a database with different name in the same instance along with data.

    Hi Nandu,
From the screenshot, the error 1813 happens when corrupt database log is attempted to attach to the SQL Server. To work around this issue, please preform the following steps, for more details, please review this
    blog.
    1. Create a new database with same name which you want to recover. Make sure that the MDF file and LDF file have same name with previous database data and log file.
    2. Stop SQL Server. Move original MDF file from old location to new location by replacing just created MDF file. Delete the LDF file of new location just created.
    3. Start SQL Server. At this point, the database is in suspect status.
    4. Make sure that system tables of Master database allows to update the values. Please note that you will be performing this in query window.
    Use Master
    go
    sp_configure 'allow updates',1
    reconfigure with override
    go
    5. Change database mode to emergency mode.
    SELECT *
    FROM sysdatabases
    WHERE name = 'DatabaseName'
    BEGIN
    UPDATE sysdatabases
    SET status = 32768
    WHERE name = ' DatabaseName '
    COMMIT TRAN
    6. Restart SQL Server. Then execute the following DBCC command in query window to create new log file.
    DBCC TRACEON (3604)
    DBCC REBUILD_LOG(databasename,'c:\yourdatabasename_log.ldf')
    GO
    7. Reset the database status using following command.
    sp_RESETSTATUS yourdatabasename
    GO
    8. Turn off the update to system tables of Master database running following script.
    USE MASTER
    GO
    sp_CONFIGURE 'allow updates',0
    RECONFIGURE WITH OVERRIDE
    GO
    9. Reset the database status to previous status.
    BEGIN
    UPDATE sysdatabases
SET status = (value retrieved in first query of step 5)
    WHERE name = 'DatabaseName‘
    COMMIT TRAN
    GO
Make sure that you have done all the steps in order and restarted SQL Server where it is mentioned. Also run SQL Server Management Studio as administrator.(Right click-> Run as Administrator)
    Thanks,

  • Running different databases with different users OpenVMS?

    Hi,
We run a few databases 9.2.0.5 in OpenVMS 8.2.
Is there any problems running the different databases with different accounts?
Anything to think about, more than to create a different account with same credentials as the original ORACLE user?

    Hi,
I'm not sure if I understood your question, but from my experience I can tell that YES, you can have different accounts - belonging to the same DBA group - on different oracle installations and this can be the case even if you're running a cluster.
    Hope this helps.

    Naveed.

Do I need to modify the NLS settings in the SOURCE database before executing a script to insert data into the TARGET database?
    Thanks, Jack

The difference in settings is not a problem by itself, especially that only the NLS_CHARACTERSET matters. Of course, this difference may lead to certain issues if not taken into consideration.
Please, describe symptoms of your problems.

  • Query distributed database with different character sets.

Hello experts, this is my situation:
I have two databases A and B, the same version 11.1.0.7, the same OS Suse Linux Enterprise 10 but with different character sets, A has WE8MSWIN1252 while B has AL32UTF8. The database B is my XML DB repository so there I have some XML type tables. I need to query this tables from the database A using a dblink and in fact I have done that but the XML content is trasformed due to the different character sets between the databases. Some time there are data loss and some time there are data missmatch.
Is there any way to query the tables stored in the database B without problems? I do not know if the following is correct: Maybe I can set the character set for the session in the database A during the time it query the database B. That is, change the character set in fly at session level.
Do you have any special suggestion?
I hope you can help me, thank you in advance.

The Globalization Support Guide for 11.1.0.7 has a chapter on character set migration that should be helpful. AL32UTF8 is a superset of WE8MSWIN1252 but it is not a strict superset. That is, it doesn't meet the second prong of the test in the documentation
The new character set is a strict superset of the current character set if:
Each and every character in the current character set is available in the new character set.
Each and every character in the current character set has the same code point value in the new character set. For example, many character sets are strict supersets of US7ASCII.Exporting the data from the A, changing the character set (or creating a new database with the AL32UTF8 character set), and then importing the data may be the easiest approach in your case.

  • Same user in tacacs and local database with different privilege

    Hi there,
i am just not sure if this is correct behavior.
i am running NX-OS image n5000-uk9.5.1.3.N1.1.bin on the nexus 5020 platform.
i have configured authorization with tacacs+ on ACS server version 5.2 with fall back to switch local database.
aaa authentication login default group ACS
aaa authorization commands default group ACS local
    aaa accounting default group ACS
a user test with priv 15 is craeted on ACS server, password test2
everything works fine, until i create the same username on the local database with privilege 0. ( it doesnt matter if the user in local database was created before user in ACS or after )
    e.g.:
username test password test1 role priv-0   (note passwords are different for users in both databases)
after i create the same user in local database with privilege 0,
if i try to connect to the switch with this username test and password defined on ACS,  i get only privilege 0 authorization, regardless, that ACS server is up and it should be primary way to authenticate and authorizate the user.
    is this normal?
    thank you for help...

    Hello.
Privileges are used with traditional IOS. Privileges are part of "command authorization". Other operating systems (like IOS-XR, Nexus OS , Juniper JunOS) use "role-based authorization" instead of "command authorization".
So traditional IOS can use the "privilege" attribute but other operating systems can not.
Although IOS-XR, Nexus, ACE, Juniper  have "roled-based authorization" feature, every single one of them use their particular attributes.
When I was configuring TACACS with ACE, Juniper and other devices I had to capture the packets to find out what were the particular attributes of ACE, what were the particular attributes of JunOS, etc, etc and to search deeply some hints the documentation , because sadly  documentation is not very good when talking about TACACS details.
If you find which attributes to use, and what values to assign to the attributes then you can go to ACS and configure a "Shell Profile".
Now back to Nexus 5000. It seems this particular device has the option to mix "role-based" with "command authorization" by overriding the default roles with other roles which names are called "priv". It seems this was an effort to try to map the old concept of "privileges" to the new concept of "roles". Although you see the word "priv", it's just the name of the role. My particular point of view is that this complicates the whole thing. I would recommend to use just the default roles, or customize some of them (only if needed), but not to use "command authorization".

I will search the particular attributes Nexus use to talk to TACACS server. If I got them I will post them here.
    Please rate if it helps

  • Error while restoring database with different name on subscriber

    Hi all,
I am using merge replication in sql server 2008R2. Yesterday I wanted to create a test environment, so
    I did:
    1. on publisher I restored from backup production db with another name ( lets call it TEST and new files
.mdf, .ldf and no switch KEEP_REPLICATION). After this step original replication between production
    dbs worked fine.
    2. on subscriber I did the same: restore as new db TEST with new
files .mdf, .ldf and no switch KEEP_REPLICATION.
Unfortunately I noticed, that after second step replication stopped. SQL agent replication job on Subscriber
    is gone.
Why restoring db with new name did affect original replication?
Finally the most important: replication was set up by external company and I have to bring it to live now
but I don't know this subject so good. How can I do it?
Assuming, that there is no data change on subscriber in replicated tables is it enough when I select ‘reinitialize’
    on Publisher and Subscriber?
    Thanks in advance
    Artur

    Hello,
Sorry for late response, but I was out of the office during last week.
Regarding problem 1: restoring replication. I contacted guy who made originally our replication and he recreated subscription agent. So this is solved.
problem 2: why did it happen?
Lydia, in link which you provided I found only info about restoring db in replication, but I didn't want to restore replication.
I checked SQL Server and Server Agent logs and there were no entries on that time. The only entries are regarding db restoring. Below:
09/11/2014 12:45:59,Backup,Unknown,Database was restored: Database: Logik_ATData_TEST<c/> creation date(time): 2012/04/27(13:55:41)<c/> first LSN: 21392:66:267<c/> last LSN: 21392:227:1<c/> number of dump devices: 1<c/> device information: (FILE=1<c/> TYPE=DISK: {'D:\MSSQLBackup\Dzienny\Logik_ATData_PROD\Logik_ATData_PROD_backup_2014_09_10_231001_6391536.bak'}). In Windows application log there were also no other entries, besides these above.
I also could not check job history, because the job was gone in SSMS jobs list, while the subscription was present in SSMS Replication with info, that last successful synchronization was at 12:42 (there is a 5 min. sync period).
I also don't understand how the job was deleted, because according this manual (http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/1803/auto-alert-for-sql-agent-jobs-when-they-are-enabled-or-disabled/) I have 2 triggers in sysjobs table and every time, when
job is deleted/disabled I got @ notification. In this case I got no @.
    My SQL Server version:
    Product_Version Product_Level Edition
    10.50.2550.0 SP1 Standard Edition (64-bit)
    Any idea what happened?

  • Transport tablespaces between databases with different character sets

    Hi everyone:
I have two 10R2 databases on the same hp-ux 64bit server, 1st one with NLS_CHARACTERSET=US7ASCII, 2nd one with
    NLS_CHARACTERSET=AL32UTF8.
NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET on both databases is AL16UTF16.
Can I transfer tablespaces from the 1st one to the 2nd. The data could be in English, French & Spanish.
If not what are my options?
    Thanks in advance.

First off, if you are storing French and Spanish data in database 1 where the character set is US7ASCII, you've got some serious problems. US7ASCII doesn't support non-English characters (accents, tildes, etc). If you're storing data this way, you've introduced data corruption that you'd have to resolve before copying the data data over to another machine.
Second, technically, the source and target character set have to be identical. Since US7ASCII is a strict binary superset of AL32UTF8, you could theoretically transport a US7ASCII tablespace to an AL32UTF8 database. In your case, though, since the data is not really US7ASCII, you'd end up with corruption.
Any of the Oracle built-in replication options is going to require that you resolve the corruption issue. Assuming that you can figure out what character set the source database really is, you could potentially dump the data to flat files (taking care not to allow character set conversion to take place) and SQL*Loader them into the destination system by identifying the proper character set in your control file. That's obviously going to be a rather laborious process, though.

  • Standby database with different os

    Hi,
    can anyone help me,
if i want build standby database,
my primary database using Oracle on Sun Solaris v880,
can i use intel based linux or intel based solaris as standby

    Hi buddy,
I would like to mention two points to you.
    1) Oracle and ideal standby database concepts suggest to have
same hardware and operating system (including patch).
    2) You may use your own same hardware machine on which primary
database running, for your standby database, provided Oracle
instance names are different. You may not need another system to

  • How to Link two Facts with Different Time Granularity (Year, Quarter) to a Single Time Dimension

    Hello All,
I have the below scenario where i have Two Facts Fact Quarterly and Fact Yearly but one Time Dimension which has Quarter grain.
So my question is how do i Establish relationship from Fact Yearly to Time Dimension??
    Ex:

    Hi naveej,
According to your description, you want to know how to build the relationship with time dimension and fact tables. Right?
Based on your screenshot, it's better to have only one fact table for sales and build the relationship with time dimension. To determine quarterly or yearly data only depends on how you slice the time dimension. However, I notice that the Revenue for year
is different from the aggregated Profit for quarters. If the Revenue and Profit are different measure, you need to have two fact tables. And you should build the relationship (Regular) between TimeDim and FactYearly on YYYY attribute.

  • Using Oracle's Parallel Server for synchronizing databases with different tables

    Hello,
I have a problem and I was searching through the Oracle documentation.
Then I mentioned the Oracle's Parallel Server (OPS) feature.
The problem I want to fix is the following:
I want to make a copy of a database. Subsequently I want to make changes to the copy of the original database. (possible changes could be extra columns).
Now I want to synchronize the data of both databases...
Is it possible to use Oracle's Parallel Server feature for this task?
