I'm having some issues in my test environment when I'm attempting to coordinate the configuration of AMS and Apache.
I'm having to try to adjst my httpd.conf with a trial-and-error approach, and it's a big time waster.
Has anyone found a resource that breaks out the entire httpd.conf file, and changes to be made when one alters AMS from a stock install?
Things like, telling me when the conf file expects a reference to the file system "C:/newapachewebdir/applications" vs. an absolute or relative html path?

What is the error you are seeing? Apache is normally quite good on telling you what is does not like about the config. Are you running on linux or windows (which versions)

Problem With httpd.conf and mod_rewrite rules Apache 2.2

I have some RewriteRules that are working on my Leopard Client Apache 2.2 machine - but when I try to implement them on Leopard Server Apache 2.2, they don't work. I don't get any errors, they just won't execute.
Could somebody with Leopard Server help me out using the below info?

I am modifying the correct httpd.conf file on the server, it just doesn't seem to work. - If I put the rewrite rules in the <Directory /> the rewrite works but it adds /Library/WebServer/Documents to the URL.
I also tried putting the rewrite rules in <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> but that did not work either.
mod_rewrite is enabled and running on the server.
I will post the rewrite rules again in the code brackets. Sorry for the long post. - If some one can try them out on their Leopard Server to see if they can get them to work, it would be much appreciated. Again, these work on my Leopard Client but I can't get them to work on Server.

Apache Plugin is not working with Cluster Entry in httpd.conf

Hi Guys,
We have a very particular issue that is happening here in our production environments. Before explaining the issue to you, I will just give a brief of our architecture.
We are using Weblogic Portal Platform SP4.
Our current Production Domain Consists of 1 Admin Server and 2 Managed Servers. The managed servers are in a cluster.
We have two Linux boxes on which the weblogic servers are running. These two machines have IPs: x.x.x.58 and x.x.x.59. Now, the Admin Server and managed Server 1 are started on the machine x.x.x.58 and managed server 2 is started on the machine x.x.x.59. Both the managedServers listen on port 8007.
This entire setup mentioned in the above paragraph is at a location A (lets say).
Now, the requests are proxied to the managed server cluster using BEA's Apache plugin residing on Apache. Apache is running on two Linux boxes that are present at a location B.
Location B is connected to Location A by a dedicated WAN Link.
Now, before the two Apache servers there is a physical Load Balancer that balances the requests between the two Apache boxes.
This means that whenever there is a request from the Internet to the weblogic cluster, the load balancer first sends it to either of the Apache servers and then the BEA Apache plugin on that Apache forwards the request via the 2 mbps WAN link to the weblogic cluster.
Now following is the description of the issue we are facing. We donot know whether the issue is with the plugin or with weblogic server.
In order that the plugin load balances the requests between the servers in the cluster and for failover, the following entry was put in httpd.conf on both the Apache Servers.

Note: Because of the WAN link there is natting used. This implies y.y.y.11 is natted to x.x.x.58 and y.y.y.13 is natted to x.x.x.59.
Here in lies the issue. When we use this plugin entry the following issue occurs.
1.     First we go to the home page and login.
2.     The user is then redirected to a Portal Desktop fitting those credentials.
3.     Now on this Portal Desktop, invariably whenever we click any of the desktop's links, an HTTP 403 is thrown. This error is thrown because on the desktop there are entitlements so that it cannot be accessed without a user logging in with credentials. But this error indicates that the server is losing the session and entitlement details.
Why does this happen?
As a result, we cannot use that plugin entry. The current entry we have is

As you can see, here we are only redirecting to one managed server. This entry is not what we want, obviously because if that server fails, the plugin wont know which other server to pass the request on to. Also in this case there is no load balancing.
Our issues our,
1. How to resolve this plugin entry issue. How can we use the cluster entry without encountering this HTTP 403 Error?
3. Consider the following sequence of steps.
- Request for the home page is served by Apache Server 1
- User logins in, the login request is sent by the Load Balancer to Apache Server 1 and plugin on Apache Server 1 sends it to the cluster via WAN l ink. Then the internal mechanism works with creating the session id and primary server and secondary server and logs the user in and sends the response via Apache Server 1.
- Now, the user clicks a link on the desktop. The request now goes to the load balancer and it sends it to Apache Server 2.
The question is now does the plugin on Apache server 2 correctly understand and send the request to the primary server of that session.
Pls help me as to giving me some direction in resolving this issue

You have to quit X, then rmmod and modprobe the kernel module - you're still using the old one. (a reboot would technically fix it too)

How to make/save changes to the file - /etc/httpd/httpd.conf - in Terminal

I'm new to Unix/Terminal and am attempting to make changes in the Apache Web server's configuation file - /etc/httpd/httpd.conf - so that I can use PHP locally. (The "LoadModule php4" has a "#" mark in front of it which I am attempting to remove.) This approach is suggested in the book "Dreamweaver MX 2004 with asp, coldfusion, and php." The book includes instructions on how to adjust the files using pico in Terminal. But the book doesn't explain how to work with Unix/Terminal to enable the right access permission to save the changes in Terminal. I've been able to make the changes in pico the book recommends, but I'm not able to save the changes. I'm the only user of the computer.
Please advise how to be able to save the changes. Thank you!

httpd.conf is owned by 'root'. therefore, to save your changes you need to use 'sudo' when editing the file. before you do that, you should type in
man sudo
and read about what sudo actually does. be aware that it can give you all-encompassing power to do many things - including messing things up.
once you have read about sudo, first do (substitute full paths, if necessary - e.g. /etc/httpd/httpd.conf for httpd.conf)
sudo cp httpd.conf httpd.conf.bak
to backup your httpd.conf file (in case you make an error), then do
sudo nano httpd.conf
to make your changes, then save the file.
then do
sudo apachectl configtest
to test changes to the server config (it should let you know if there is an error).
finally do
sudo apachectl graceful
to restart the server and re-read the config file.

Failing at httpd.conf, ServerTokens edit

We're responding to an internal security audit which directs us to "Set the ServerTokens Prod directive"
We change the parameter for ServerTokens to Prod in httpd.conf per these instructions.
File Saved, stop/restart Apache services etc.
We run the following command to test: "httpd -v" but we keep getting the same output.

What you're doing wrong is the way you're testing.
httpd -v is specifically a command to Apache to report its version number. This is NOT the same thing as what it reports to clients. You WANT the local application to actually report its version, otherwise you'd have no way to tell which version you're running, or whether you need to update.
To test your PUBLIC identification, either use the Web Inspector in Safari (or other browser) to examine the HTTP headers returned by the server, or run something like:
curl -I http://localhost:80/ | grep ^Server
this will show you the Server field as presented to remote clients.

Virgin /etc/httpd/httpd.conf

Hi, I tried to install php5 from the entropy site. I got install errors. PWS would then hang during startup. Checked error log and it showed a problem with httpd.conf. I saw a few different versions in the /etc/httpd directory. I sudo cp-ed a few and finally found one to work (i.e. PWS is up). "View this computer’s website at http://10.0.1.7/ or your personal website at http://10.0.1.7/~rob/"
However Document root is set to the apache directory (I can see it in httpd.conf). If I enter the url indicated by the PWS preferences as the "computer's website" I get the generic apachepage. If I enter url http://10.0.1.7/~rob/" I get:
Not Found
The requested URL /~rob/ was not found on this server.

I guess this does not surprise me. Any idea on how to restore the virgin httpd.conf? Will archive and install do it?

Without knowing what you've done to get to the point you are at now, it's impossible to say whether rolling back the httpd.conf file will fix any of your problems, or even create new ones.
The good news is that you already have a virgin copy - Apple provide a httpd.conf.default file in /etc/httpd You can copy that file to /etc/httpd/httpd.conf to restore the default setup.
As for the speciic issues you're having, /~username/ directories require the userdir module to be enabled. Check /etc/httpd/httpd.conf for the lines:

and make sure they're not commented out.

It already is unformatted - it's a plain text file. The issue is that for security reasons it's owned by root, so unless you invoke TextEdit as root you cannot edit this file (TextEdit doesn't have the ability to overwrite the file).
If you want a GUI app, consider TextWrangler, a free text editor that can edit root-owned files via authentication.

I'm not sure what you're asking here. The default root directory is /Library/WebServer/Documents which you can easily get to in the Finder. If you want to change that you'll need to edit the DocumentRoot and Directory directives in httpd.conf.
If you mean you want to see the /etc/httpd directory in the Finder, just use Go -> Go to Folder and enter /etc
Although normally hidden, the Finder will display this directory if you ask it. However you will probably have trouble deleting files in here since they're all owned by root.

OS/X Lion Apache userdir configs, and other httpd.conf oddities

There seems to have been quite some discussions around the userdir and other configs with Apache. I think I stumbled on the issue.
Most of the advanced configurations in httpd.conf is surrounded by
<IfDefined WEBSHARING_ON>
But, in the /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.apache.httpd.plist file, there WEBSERVICE_ON is what's defined. I added the following to the plist file:

right next to the WEBSERVICE_ON flag, and all worked again.
A lot of other folks just edited the heck out of the httpd.conf file, which works, but I wonder if it screws with the automagic configuration doodads in Server.app.

It keeps telling me "could not connect to database postgres: could not connect to server: No such file or directory"
I'm running OSX Mountain Lion, and have verified using serveradmin status postgres that it is up and running.

Httpd.conf is not modified

I have installed apache 2.2.9 on Oracle Enterprise Linux 4. I can start it up and get the 'It Works' index.html page. I then install the content server and am able to successfully start up the server. But when I try to navigate to the portal page via http://localhost/idc/portal.htm I get a page not found error.
I expected the installation process would create configuration changes in httpd.conf but it appears that there have been no changes made, thus no mapping to the portal directory installed as part of the content server install.
I have checked out the log and there are no errors. I have deleted the entire content server directory and re-installed multiple times as I have come up to speed. Finally, I have an error free install...but no portal link info in httpd.
ANyone have any idea?

I'm trying to set up the development area. When I go to preferences to get to my computers website the following error shows up:
"Safari can’t open the page “http://10.0.1.4/” because Safari can’t connect to the server “10.0.1.4”.
So I opened monitor and did a config test and got an error message which I don't know how to fix:

Syntax error on line 274 of /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf:
LogFormat takes 1-2 arguments, a log format string (see docs) and an optional format name
Does anyone know how to fix this? I've been worKing on it all day and no luck! any advice would be appreciated!

Apache 2.2.23 SSL error RE httpd.conf

I am using Apache 2.2.23 with PHP 5.4.10 on my OS X Server.
The Apache2 error_log contains the following error messages:
[Sat Jan 12 09:50:19 2013] [notice] caught SIGTERM, shutting down
[Sat Jan 12 09:50:23 2013] [notice] Apache/2.2.23 (Unix) DAV/2 PHP/5.4.10 mod_ssl/2.2.22 OpenSSL/0.9.8r configured — resuming normal operations
Could that be due to the entries in the httpd.conf shown at the bottom of this post? Does it matter? What does 'caught SIGTERM' mean?
Also, why does the error mention mod_ssl/2.2.22 (shouldn't that be mod_ssl/2.2.23)? Sorry for all the questions but I'm still learning.
I am not currently using SSL although I do want to get that working eventually.
The Apache2 httpd.conf file contains the following lines:

Try installing the Oracle HTTP Server installed with Oracle8i release 8.1.7.

Apache 2.0.35 httpd.conf issue with Win2k WLS 6.1sp2 Cluster

Hi,
          Anybody has a Win2K Apache 2.0.35 httpd.conf that works
          with a WLS 6.1sp2 Cluster?
          I am getting errors like
          "..Cannot load D:/Apache2.0.35/Apache2/modules/mod_wl_20.so into server: The
          specified procedure could not be found."

Help with httpd.conf redirect to our Forms Application

Hello. We are running Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) Forms & Reports services on a Windows 2003 x64 server. I'm having a difficult time trying to get the default Oracle iAS homepage to redirect to our forms application installed on the same server. For example, we access our server homepage at http://db1. We access our forms app at http://db1/forms/frmservlet?form=C:\forms\execs\app.fmx. In httpd.conf I've tried the following:
1. Redirect / http://db1/forms/frmservlet?form=C:\forms\execs\app.fmx
When accessing http://db1, the following error is returned:
FRM-92130: Registry is either missing, or contains invalid, entry for Dispatcher...
The error returned in Internet Explorer 7 is:
java.lang.ClassFormatError: oracle/forms/engine/Main (Bad magic number)
This also breaks the form URL.
2. I also tried this at the end of httpd.conf:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ http://db1/forms/frmservlet?form=C:\forms\execs\app.fmx
When accessing http://db1, the server appears to be stuck in a loop. I think the problem is that the redirect is happening on all occurrences that contain "db1". So then a user enters http://db1, the redirection happens. But after the redirection, the new URL contains "db1" and the redirection happens again and keeps looping.
Any help resolving this issue is greatly appreciated.

Summary:
I fixed the "Bad magic number" error by modifying the client's JInitiator configuration to not use Browser Settings for Proxies.
Issue:
JInitiator running in Internet Explorer displays the following error: "java.lang.ClassFormatError: oracle/forms/engine/Main (Bad magic number)”
Details:
In my case, only external users connecting via a Proxy Server were having this issue.
Solution:
• Open "JInitiator Control Panel":
Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> JInitiator 1.3.1.22
• Open [Proxies] tab; Uncheck the “Use Browser Settings” checkbox.

Need help regarding Apache httpd.conf and PHP setup.

I am facing problem setting up my PHP and apache setup. I have installed Apache2.2 Root path = C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2
I have also installed PHP in my C:\PHP drive earlier. I moved this PHP folder to C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2 just to keep all things at one place.
I have copied php5ts.dll at 4 locations - C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2 \bin , %SYSTEMROOT%\System32, %SYSTEMROOT%\system and %SYSTEMROOT%. I have also added these paths in Environment variable 'PATH'.
In httpd.conf file entries are as follows:
ServerRoot "C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2"
I have added these 3 lines as
LoadModule php5_module php/php5apache2.dll
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps
When restarting apache http server I get message as:
httpd.exe error ...... cannot load C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\php\php5ts.dll into the server. The specified module could not be found.
I have checked that php5ts.dll DLL exist at above path. Please help me out urgently.

Sorry I don't have Windows available to check the paths. With recent versions
of PHP I never copied files out of the php source directory.
Make sure the Oracle 10g Instant Client is in your PATH environment variable.
You could try using the PHP Windows MSI installer.
