Linking to a specific sheet within an Excel file
Hi-
I'm using RoboHelp for Word and generating a WebHelp help
system. I'm using the the "ExecFile" macro to link to an Excel
workbook. This works fine, but I'd like to automatically link to a
specific tab (sheet) and cell within the Excel file. Does anyone
know of a way to do this? Is there perhaps an argument that I can
pass along with the macro to Excel to do this? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.
In Snippet 84 on my site there is a method of doing that
using RH HTML. Maybe you can figure a way of tweaking the webhelp
output to do what you want.

I hope someone can help me, I've been pulling my hair out on this one...
I'm trying to set up a hyperlink in Indesign, to link to a specific sheet in one Excel file. I don't want to import the excel file within indesign, I just want that file to open in Excel when the link is clicked on in the final exported PDF. Well I've managed to link to the general Excel file, but not to one of the specific sheets within that file...
Also, the final pdf and the Excel doc will be sent out via email - when I create the hyperlink, Indesign wants the complete/absolute file path to the external doc, how will that work when I send it out by email. Will the link work for the third party?

http://url-path/workbook.xls#sheetName!a1
The default action in Excel is to open with the last active cell. So the a1 at the end positions the view to the top left. You can also open to named sections.
Also, keep the filename.xls and sheet names without spaces. However, for a sheet name with a space, enclose it in single quote marks like 'Sheet Name'

Hi all,
I want to link to a specific place within a document from Captivate4.
I have no trouble linking to the beginning of a document; however I want to be able to link to a specific chapter/area of a document I am creating. My plan is that as people progress through the e-learning they can link back to the electronic manual I am creating from where they left off.
I have a workaround of creating separate documents and linking to them, but this is time consuming and messy.
Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do; I have looked around the forums and, unless I am blind, can't find anything like I am looking for.

This link works perfectly fine for excel files without Macros.

And after the macro enable/disable popup is cleared, the system freezes.

Hi,
How do I link to a specific topic in a chm file from Word? I can link to the chm but can't work out how to get it to open to a specific page. I have tried #filename and \filename at the end of the path but neither works.

Hello Champs!!!
I have a problem in Excel File's Data Getting.
There are diffrent Sheets in a single Excel file. I need data of a perticular sheet into an internal Table.
Like there are 2 Sheets in an Excel file EXCEL1, Sheet1 & Sheet2. Both Sheet have diffrent Data in it.
Now i only need Data of Sheet1 of this Excel FIle Excel1.
How can i get it?

How do I duplicate sheets within a Numbers file on iCloud?
I need to create several sheets within a Numbers file within the iCloud iWork portal. I can create a new sheet by clicking the plus button but that just gives me an additional blank sheet. I've attempted to copy the sheets by pressing highlighting all data in the first sheet and copy and pasting it into the newly created blank sheet but the way the pasting transfers over is mumbled and disorganized. The font is even styled differently too. Is this possible yet?
After creating a new sheet with a default table but before pasting the data, press Command-A and hit Delete. You now have a completely blank sheet. Now press Command-V to paste the new table.
Alternatively, after pasting the new table it will be at the front. Select (say) cell A1, and then click on the Table Select icon (nine dots at the top-left). At this point you have the new table selected. Then click on the Arrange tab and click on Back to send the new table behind the default table. Now reselect cell A1 and then the Table Select icon again. Now you have the default table selected and can press Delete. -

One very good reason that I can think of is that MS keeps changing their ActiveX interface with each version of Excel, so code written for one version of Excel using ActiveX may not work for another version of Excel, even though the basic functionality hasn't changed. Then it's something you're doing. Please post your code. Have you tried a search on this forum for ActiveX and Excel? There have been tons of posts on it, including lots of examples. There's also the Excel thread. -
Writing to specific cells of existing Excel file and saving as a new file using LV 8.6
Hi all,
I am new to LV and am currently tasked to create a program that can open an existing excel file, input data in the program that will be written to a specific cell in the excel file and then saving the current edited file as a new file.
I have browsed through all the forums but I am unable to view the examples sent in them as I am using LV 8.6 which is why I am still having trouble visualizing how to create a program like this. Can anyone help me and mentor me how to write this program in this version of LV? I do not have a microsoft office toolkit hence another approach could be preferred. Thank you.

Go to Solution.Thank you for helping me on this. However I do not really understand how does ActiveEx work. I have created a Vi according to the picture that you provided but there was some error in running the file.
Below is my own VI that I am trying to create. It consists of multiple string inputs which I am trying to input each into an existing file. I have created a separate txt file which has the cell numbers. I am trying to allocate each string into each respective cell in an existing file. I am currently having the problem of doing this "allocation" of each string as I do not have the microsoft office tool kit. Is there any other way for me to do so?
Also, I would like to save the newly created file as a new file with the name as seen in my VI. How would I be able to do it?
Please help me as I am stuck here but do not know how to continue

Actually i need to read each sheet of an excel file and pass it to XI and will create one xml file .I am able to read the excel file by writting a custom module and it is generating the xml output from XI.But my requierment is to read the excel file and create the xml with the sheet name of the excel.suppose sheet name is sheet1, the xml file name will be sheet1.xml.if sheet name is sheet2 the xml file name will be sheet2 and so on....how can i pass this parameter from NWDS to SAP XI s i am passing the string which contains the sheet data.If I understood correct you are already reading the XLS and creating the XML (not sure if this is a separate executing body out side of XI). Are you using any sort of Object Modal in Java to read the XML? I am aware of Visual Basic object modal for Excel but not sure if one is available in Java from Microsoft.
The Object modal that you are using must be providing an iterator to loop through each of the sheet in the Excel workbook and you should be able to create the XMLs as you desired.
I would be glad to look at you module if you are doing it once the XI file adapter has picked up the excel file.

I believe you are correct in saying that there is no way to link directly to a specific anchor tag within an html file from the context help.
I would encourage you to visit our Product Suggestion Center if this is a feature you would like to recommend that our R&D team consider for future versions of LabVIEW.
Is it possible for you to create a .chm file? Or perhaps you could have some kind of "table of contents" at the top of your .html help file. This would require an extra click by the user but may be an option for you.

Hi apatnola,
You need to click on 'Acrobat' in the menu bar and select 'Create PDF'.
In the 'Acrobat PDF Maker' dialog box, select Sheet(s) for specific sheets and accordingly add the desired number of sheets.
Click on 'Convert to PDF' and then save it.
