Linking to UNC vs. URL

My client is using Contribute to maintain a website created in asp.  When trying to do a link to a UNC address on their server (ie File://///folder1/folder2$/documentname.pdf)  Contribute will instead upload the pdf to the host space and create a web link.
The weird thing is I can create this UNC link on my computer (that is not connected to their network) no problem, in both Contribute and Dreamweaver. Neither program makes any attempt to load the pdf, it just publishes the page with the link in place.
I don't see any difference in set up, I am the same role as this person.  The only thing I can see different is that they are on the network and I am not - but that shouldn't change the functionality of the "LINK" .
Thx

Although the Intranet and most documents linked is on the web, for some documents that were intellectual property, they only wanted them accessing them in the office.  Long story there but that is what they wanted.
So, the documents were loaded on an internal server that everyone was mapped to.
Then the UNC link was determined.  Each time the client tried to create this UNC link, Contribute would then take over and not just create link but UPLOAD the pdf to the web server and change the UNC link file://///servername/folder$/document.pdf  to a URL http://www.sitename.com/pdfs/document.pdf
Very frustrating!
BUT from home using Contribute, I could create this link for them.  I am guessing because I am not attached to the network, my copy of contribute, didn't attempt to second guess my wishes by uploading the document. Of course I couldn't check the link once published to see if it was correct (no access to network), but clearly the link still had the file://servername/folder$/document.pdf as the link vs. the URL.
Is Contribute possessed?  How does it manage to take over and decide when to upload when asking for a link?  Is there a setting somewhere I am missing?  I tried calling Adobe support and seriously after 2 sessions of 1.5 and 1.9 hours they still were asking why we cared if it was on the web if it was password protected.  Does it matter if the client's reasoning to do this?  There is no work around the request.  I need the link to say UNC vs. URL when THEY create it as they don't want to have to call me each time they want to make a UNC link or have to have a dedicated machine with contribute that is hooked to the intranet but not the network.    Anyway long story... thx for listening and if anyone has an answer to the possessed contribute - great!

  • Resuming audio after linking out to a URL

I am able to link out to a URL and I have chosen  "Stop audio when clicked" on the button properties. My problem is that I cannot get the audio to resume when I return to Captivate except by pressing the play/pause button a couple of time. By this time the text on the screen is no longer in sync with the audio.
Any advice most welcome. Thanks in advance.

    Hi MMDeaton
    Are you using Captivate 2?
I don't believe you will be able to do this if the YouTube
video isn't in .FLV format. The only video format that I've seen
"embedded" inside Captivate in the manner you are describing is the
.FLV format. So I suppose you would first need to convert the
    YouTube video to .FLV.
Assuming it already exists on YouTube in .FLV format and you
are using Captivate 2, the process should be pretty
straightforward. You click Insert > Flash Video... and point at
    the URL for the video.
You link to Web Sites and URLs using either Button or Click
Box objects. I'm not sure what you meant to imply with your
statement, as normally you would either position the invisible
Click Box object over a logical area to be clicked or the Button
does indeed look like a button they click. Your statement sounds as
if users are fumbling around without the faintest clue as to what
to click. If that's the case, they need more visual cues.
    Sincerely... Rick

  • Link iView Name to URL property in EP5 SP6

    Hi All,
I am having a problem with the Link iView Name to URL property in EP5 SP6. In our portal all the iviews are having help links added to the title of the iview using the "Link iView Name to URL" property. The iview is a Standard.URLComponent which has a link to a webdynpro component. This url link works in EP5 SP4 environment but its not working in the EP5 SP6 environment. It works for all other iviews in both environments.
Can anybody tell me why this is happening or it does not work for an iview pointing to a webdynpro component?
    Thanks in advance.

    To be expected.
See 7.11 of ISO 32000-1 (ISO Standard for PDF Ref.).
Link syntax in network space (UNC) and in webspace (URI/URL) are not equivalent / the same.

  • How to create link to a particular URL in mail

    Hi All,
I am trying to create link in mail body that should point to particular url,
    I tried below code:
    link("View Document","%Document_URL%")
    but its not working.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks,

    Hi
What I understand of your requirement is that you want to send an e mail to the supplier when a contract doc is moved to supplier draft phase. The content of the mail should contain Click Here: ContractDoc_URL statement wherein ContractDoc_URL is URL to contract document in supplier draft phase.
As rightly pointed out by Vikram there is already a mail template Version Shared With Supplier defined for it. There is a token %CONTRACTDOC_URL% which returns the contract link. You can duplicate and modify the content of the e mail as per your requirement. Follow the following steps after that
    1. go to Set Up->System Set Up-> Configuration-> Mail Configuration
    2. Search for mail type Contract Document Share With Supplier
    3.Select the modified mail template.
    4. GO to go to Set Up->Document Set Up-> Contract Document-> Contract Document Type
    5. Open the contract document type used
    6. In contract document notifications, set Version Shared with Supplier to Alerts and Notifications

  • Dragging link in: DataFlavors contain URL but I need the URL plus link text

    Hello!
In IE under Windows, suppose I have loaded a webpage that contains the following:
If I drag this link to the desktop (or use "Copy Shortcut"/"Paste"), a .url file is created -- a Windows "shortcut". This file CONTAINS, among other things, "target.html". Windows/IE NAMES the file "click here.url".
I have a DropTarget which is accepting links dragged from IE. It seems the DataFlavors are ONLY representing the target URL ("target.html"). I cannot locate the link text ("click here") anywhere.
Does anyone know if there is a way to get the link text?
I am hoping (eventually) to find a cross-platform/cross-browser solution, but right now I'm just working with Windows/IE.
    thanks for your help!

Hi, I also need to be able to get the "title" attribute associated with an html <a> tag containing an "href" that is being dragged to a Swing component/application from the web browser. Did you ever get a resolution to this? Thanks...

  • Link not working to URL once published

I have tried creating a link to a URL. When I preview it works. When I publish it doesn't work.
Tried using a click box, button, creating a link using text. None of these work after publishing.
We are constricted to using Internet Explorer 9 (Not sure if this is possibly a browser issue?)
The link is to a webpage on our company Intranet.
Has anyone dealt with this and solved it?
    Thanks!

It would if you were on a computer outside of the firewall.
I've never tried what you are doing and won't be in the office to test for a couple of weeks.
Are you using swf and the link on the last slide by any chance?

  • "Your Benefits and Payroll Information" links referencing the wrong URL-ESS

    Hi Everyone,
At my project we need to change the underlying URL for the following links found under "Your Benefits and Payroll Information" page.
    Other Benefits and Discount Programs
Family Status Change Form for Mid-year Benefit Changes
    Other Benefits Forms
Contacts for your Daiichi Sankyo Benefits
As per our project requirements, the under lying URL for each of the above links should be some destination within our intranet. We made this change in the SAP backend, however when we go to the Portal and click on one of the links we are routed to a non-existent URL. See the examples below for a clearer picture of our issue...
    <b>Example</b>
    <i><b>Link in the SAP Backend</b></i>:
    https://intranet.cst.com/site/contentEngine/content.cfm?page_content_ID=10
<i><b>Link that appears in the Browser</b></i>:

We tried to go around this issue by creating a URL iView and then calling the URL iView from the SAP Backend. So instead of a valid URL we entered the location of the iView (ROLES://...) in the backend. This also, had the same result as before...The URL iView is launched, however the URL iView has the second URL.
Not sure what is causing this...any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Christopher,
Thanks for your reply! I created a resource with fields Window Properties populated with "_blank" and a URL specified in the URL of Resource Object field.  I then create a Service and assigned the Resource to Link Resource and chose "Direct Url launched in separate window" for the Service Type.  I then assigned the Service to the a Subarea.
The result was the link did not show up.  When I add the URL to "URL of PCD Page" and "Directory Path" in the Resource area the link shows up but does the above with the URL.
    Thanks
    Guy
