Linking tracks so they play together in shuffle

Is there a way to link tracks together, such as movements of a symphony or the medley on side two of Abbey Road, so that they play as one during shuffle mode on iTunes 11.1?

Okay.. I just learned about "join tracks" but is there a way to join tracks if I don't have the original CD, such as from an iTunes download?

  • Can songs be made to play together in shuffle mode?

Some songs are intended to play together like "Golden Slumbers" and "Carry That Weight" or "Moving in Stereo" and "All Mixed Up" and it drives me bananas when you get the first but not the second!
Is there any way to make it so songs play back to back in shuffle like they do when you listen to the album in order?

  • Video & Audio Linked Tracks Will Not Modify Together - FCP 6

I have a weird phenomenon w/FCP 6. When attempting to modify the length of video and audio clips that are linked (even Slug from the Generators area). I can only 2 either the audio or video, not both. Is there a setting which I need to modify? I would prefer to do this rather than re-install the whole thing. Thanks.

Clips that are linked have their names as undelined text in the timeline.
Clips that are not linked haven't.
So Check if they are linked. If not. Select and use Command L to Link.
AFTER that. Linked Selection can be switched on and off.
When Link is on. Then clicking on a Videoclip selects Video AND audio.
When Link is off. Then clicking on a videoclio selects video ONLY and NOT it's Linked Audio.
To toggle Linked Selection On and Off use SHIFT L.
edit: oh, almost forgot. ALT clicking on a clip toggles temporaraly (as long as the ALT is being pressed). This way you can also easily trim edges that are linked, while linked selection is on. ALT click and drag on the cut then only trims the track (audio OR video) that you selected.
Probably you are aware of this all. I just want to make sure...

  • IPhoto and iDisk Can They Play Together?

    Hey All,
I want to start backing up my iPhoto library using iDisk.
I can not find a way to create a shortcut in the iDisk folder to my Pictures folder.
What is the easiest way to backup my iPhoto library in iDisk without doing it manually.
    Thanks!

About the only way I can think of doing it is to make an Automator workflow. On the other hand, you could just backup the Originals folder from you library to the iDisk and for that you can use an application like Transmit which will mount the iDisk (enter password, etc.) and then, when you click on run it will compare the Original file in your library to the one on the iDisk and copy only those new files. Transmit will copy files to the iDisk faster than you can in the Finder. There are other backup applications that can do incremental backups.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Challenge:  Verizon Broadband and Aiport Express; can they play together?

My only access to the internet is through VZ broadband which currently uses my phone as a modem (not elegant, but it works).
My goal is to print wirelessly from my mac (all printers are currently connected to PC), stream music from my mac to the stereo and have internet throughout the house without having to drag my phone/modem everywhere.
I thought Airport Express was the perfect solution, but since I don't have a DSL/cable modem, there's nothing for me to plug my ethernet into.
What's the simplest way to get there from here?

The answer to your first question is "yes." You'll simply run a cable from the Express' minijack to your stereo's inputs and then use OSX 10.5's Admin Utility to set up the Extreme N and Express as a WDS, with the Extreme serving as the main base station and the Express serving as a remote station. (You could reverse these roles, but you indicate you want to retain the Extreme as your main base station, possibly because its nearest your Ethernet cable.) A possible added benefit may be improved signal strength throughout your home -- any 802.11-equipped computers you have will be able to connect to whichever station provides the better signal.
From what I've read elsewhere in this forum, it will be best to ensure the Express is also the newest, N version to preserve the added range/bandwidth of the 802.11n spec and maximize reliability. You'll want to use the Extreme's "extend network" option when creating the WDS and choose between communicating at 2.4 vs. 5 GHz. Prior discussions have indicated that 2.4 GHz yields better range and 5 GHz yields better bandwidth, but there's no substitute for trying both and choosing what works best for you.
I've no experience with iPhones, so I'll leave it to someone else to answer your second question.

  • Gang tracks to play together even in shuffle

I realize I can physically combine adjacent tracks into one to keep them playing together during a shuffle play, but is there any way to 'tag' tracks so that they can stay separate but will always play together even if during a shuffle play?  Thanks,

Cance.  I see from other posts you would have to physically combine the desired tracks to keep together.

  • Setting up tracks so that they will always play together?

There are some songs that i always want played together when the first one comes up on shuffle. Is there a way to set this up in iTunes without establishing a play list?
    ThanKs!

I've burned it to DVD and tried it on a couple players, and indeed, I get different results.
I am using the "Forever" template. As you can see from its thumbnail, there are six items with two rows each. My DVD is three rows, making nine buttons. I simply want to highlight the button below by pressing the down button, but instead it highlights the one to the right. Then I'll push down again, and it will highlight the one diagonally down and to the right. It makes no sense. I'm making this for older folks who don't like computers. They don't want to press up up down down left right left right just to move one button over.

  • Making multiple tracks play as one track in a certain order during shuffle

Many albums have songs that are ment to be played in order as if they were one song such as a song with a prelude. On most CDs, these are stored as separate tracks that get played out of order during shuffle. Is there a way to link specific tracks together so they will always be played in order even during shuffle?

My Pink Floyd got "Spliced" Together a long time ago. Every heard of "Audacity? Free and its been around a while. Works like a charm. Runs on Windows or Mac. Have fun and it was a pleasure helping you out:

  • Linking tracks together,

Does anybody know if there is a way to link tracks, so that even if you are on shuffle mode two or more tracks will always play one after another. This is needed on music such as the last five tracks on Abbey Road, that lead from one song right into the next.

I believe if you put in the original CD you can use the "Join CD Tracks" option to make them all one long track, but they will be one long track, not five linked tracks.

  • Keeping tracks together when shuffling

I want to keep certain tracks together when listening in shuffle mode (for example The Four Seasons). I thought this was what the groupings was for, but it doesn't seem to have that effect. Is there any way of doing this?

You would need to physically link the songs together to prevent them being separated during shuffle. You could rip the tracks over again from the original CD using "Join CD Tracks" from the Advanced menu when you are importing: Adding Content to iTunes
You can also have a look at Doug's iTunes scripts for this script which will join tracks after they've been imported Note: This script allows you to join any two (or more) MP3 tracks (it doesn't join other formats), provided that they are the same format and bit rate: Track Splicer
Doug also has this shareware program you might find useful (this will join AAC tracks as long as they are not ITunes Store copy protected versions): Join Together

Does the track play correctly in Quicktime Player?  If it does then it is an iTunes issue.  If it doesn't then it is possible the file was not completely downloaded, or is corrupt.

If it can be downloaded again, delete the track from iTunes.

  • Certain things are meant to be played together...

    Two questions:
    1. I'd like the multi-disc sets that I have in iTunes to play continuously without my having to do anything. For example, I want to listen to disc 1 and then disc 2 of "Phish--A Live One" seamlessly. How do I do this?
    2. There are certain songs that are meant to be played back to back. The most obvious example that comes to mind is Led Zeppelin's "Heartbreaker" and "Living Loving Maid." Is there any way I can have these songs linked to be played back-to-back, even when I'm in shuffle mode?
    Thanks for any answers.
Dell Dimension 4550   Windows XP   40GB G3; mini; shuffle

The way to link songs so they have no gap is by putting the original CD into you computer, then in iTunes you click on the two songs (must be in Track # order. 1-X), when they are both blue go to Advanced -> Join Tracks. This must be done when you have the CD in your drive. Then import the CD. Those songs you highlighted will be played with no gap.
i'm not sure if it stays this way in shuffle, but it's worth a try.

  • Need help, how to keep some songs playing together

I've done a lot of searching for an answer to this but can't seem to find one and I'm not sure this is possible, but let me ask anyway.
I have a number of playlists in which I shuffle the tunes but would like to have certain songs (for example Queen's "We Will Rock You" and "We Are The Champions" play in the correct order (i.e., back to back) as they are intended.
Is there a way to sort of "combine" or group these two songs so that even during a random playing in a playlist they will still play together?

Actually, if you have the CD, the easiest way to do this in in iTunes. You won't need to use iMovie.
Before you import the songs from the CD, select (highlight) the songs that you want to combine together, go to the 'Advanced' menu and select "Join CD Tracks". This will combine the songs together when they are imported into your Library.
    Hope this helps!
