Links in Support Community Forum Posts not clikcable in Safari

This was so annoying I nearl threw my macbook pro out the window! Trying to respond to a reply to a query on the commuity forum, and yet none of the links within the post would register my clicks. I restarted safari, and rebooted my macbook pro and still the same. I am now using firefox which works fine - how can crap like this be happening on an apple product, its as if I bought a 5 pound laptop form the market. Totally shocking. Totally crap.
Safari Version 7.0.5 (9537.77.4)

You have JavaScript enabled in the Security tab in Safari > Preferences ? If that is disabled then the 'reply' link doesn't work on my Mac's Safari (version 7.0.6), if it's enabled then it does.

• My Oracle Support Community Forum

Survey:
Is anyone participating in the new "*My Oracle Support Community*" Forums? I'm a bit confused as to the purpose of the forum since they cover virtually the same topics that are discussed here. I did do some research and found the following answers....
* The OTN (Oracle Technology Network) forums are not being replaced by the My Oracle Support Communities.
* Oracle Support does not participate in the OTN forums.
* Since the OTN forums are outside of My Oracle Support and used by participants who may or may not have Oracle Support, existing knowledgebase articles and bug records may not be leveraged to answer your inquiries.
* The OTN forum will continue and remain open to the public.
* Oracle built the My Oracle Support (MOS) communities to specifically help customers and partners that have support contracts*
* OTN is not part of customer support, though some of us support engineers have voluntarily contributed to it in the past.
Personally, I see the same type of topics/questions being discussed in both forums! ?:|

I believe the difference is that the Community Forum is moderated and you need a valid CSI number to access it. Overall this forum seems more active, but it looks as though Oracle Support Engineers may be more active in the Community one.

• This entire Apple Support Community feedback is not user friendly or meant for us oldies.

Hi
Thanks for the 2 replies from different people. It's taken me 2 hours to try and find a way to respond to my 2 emailers...to NO avail. I've tried so much that I can't even remember what I've done or where I've been to repeat the action. Apple Support Community is too complicated for this old man to find/use or answer back on. I'll be leaving Apple/itunes for good, and if I loose my purchased and/or personal library of 9,000 songs so be it. Time to go android. Perhaps it's easier to navigate than this mess. This isn't user friendly at all, and doesn't answer very much because I can't answer back with parts of my dilemma I just do NOT understand. I've tried in my 2nd message to the community to be concise and exact on my issue to no real avail. It's NOT only my desire to go back to version 9...but the icloud debacle, and the genius issue as well. AAARGH!!!
But a huge thank you to my responders. I'm afraid to use that last bit of help because I have questions upon questions. That sounds like a band-aid rather than a true fix. And personally I do NOT find version 11 the same as previous versions. I really don't want it. I want what I was comfortable and familiar with for the last 5-6 years...not this mess.
Best wishes everyone and audios and a huge THANK YOU.

and find a way to respond to my 2 emailers...to NO avail
You don't respond to emailers because no one is emailing you. (looks like I am one of them).
Apple Support Community (ASC) is emailing you because you subscribed to your topic post.
When someone rersponds to your post in ASC, ASC will send you an email informing you there was a response to the topic you posted here.
You then go to that post and review it and respond if you wish.
To turn off emails from ASC, see this -> https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3661
I'll be leaving Apple/itunes for good,
Really? Just because you got an email?
This isn't user friendly at all, and doesn't answer very much because I can't answer back with parts of my dilemma I just do NOT understand.
You seem to be doing fine here -> https://discussions.apple.com/message/24556207#24556207
then you abandoned your first topic and posted again here -> https://discussions.apple.com/message/24557775#24557775

• Links in Mail for Leopard Do Not Open in Safari

When I click a link in a Mail message, Safari jumps to the front but does not open a new window with the linked page in it. I have re-started everything, including the computer!
This happened suddenly with no system changes.
Any ideas would be gratefully received...

As an update; no links in outside applications work. I'll add a post in the Safari forum.

• Links in SDN forum posts

Hello!
This is probably trivial for most of you, but I just can't do it.
How do I create a link in a SDN forum post? The standard way doesn't work, and tips from the weblog "Weblog formatting tips&tricks" by Mark Finnern obviously don't apply here:
SAP Community
See?
So please enlighten me: how do I do this?
Thanks!
Igor

Hi,
If you don't want a description and just the plain URL shown, you only need the type the URL and all happens automagically. eg http://sdn.sap.com will be shown as link.

Hi,
Good question. No, we will not move the content of the OTN forum to the Support Community Forum is the short answer.
Just to be clear, the OTN forum for WCI will remain in place and is not being replaced by the Support Community Forum. The Support Community Forum is a supplemental forum which you are welcome to use as you desire.
The main difference between the two forums is that the Support Community Forum is discretely monitored by the Technical Support team for WCI. We are the owners and the monitors of the Support Community Forum and we have set up monitoring tasks to ensure that posted questions are acknowledged and responded to by support as soon as possible. Conversely, while we occasionally participate in discussions on the OTN forum, that participation is much more informal.

• All of a sudden I cannot launch Safari because of popup saying cannot support community toolbar?

I am getting pop up saying "this version of Safari browser cannot support community toolbar" therefore I cannot launch Safari. ????

Try Safari forum. I know the issue with toolbars has come up in the past so you could also search this forum.
Security updates and new versions often do affect extensions and functionality.

• I got into a support community re: os 5.1 and would like to get out of it since I get continual posts. How do I do this?

How can I get out of a support community. I posted once and now receive several posts day.

Do you see the Actions box at the top of your topic on the right? See the first option? Go to the forum in question. That first option will read "Stop email notifications." Click the link and that will terminate the email notifications for that topic.
In your personal profile you can make specific changes to how or if you will receive notifications, but I would leave them alone. Use the above to control whether you will receive notifications on a topic by topic level.

• After posting a question on the community forum page, will I be notified when an answer appears?

After posting a question on the community forum page, will I be notified when an answer appears?

Yes, it will be in your mailbox unless you setup not to receive.

• Preferred way to link to other forum posts in your message?

Hi,
Every once in a while I come across forum posts that have links to
other posts in them. However, sometimes I cannot follow the link
and get back to the message that the poster is referring to. Is
there a standard way to link to forum posts?
For example, take the following thread:
http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=330&message.id=4386&query.id=0
The second message in this thread lists a URL that starts with
exchange.ni.com, and this just goes to a generic error message.
The poster does not give enough information for me to find the message
using an advanced search.
Are there any standard procedures for linking to other NI discussion forum messages for new posts?
--Peter

This is due to changes which were made to NI's site (and probably the database) that make old links obselete. Most people just use the method you did and hopefully these links will be kept up-to-date.
In this case, if you post a new message in that thread, I'm sure Ray will be happy to help you.

• How does User get Identified by Screen Name and NOT by Real Name in submitting a Forum Post?

I have noticed that when I post a question or discussion item to one of Adobe's Forum Communities, I am identified as the author of my post by my actual legal name, not by my Screen Name that I set up in my profile when I registered. The same applies for the posts of others--they are identified by their legal names, not their screen names. What is the purpose of the Screen Name we set up when we registered, if not to shield the identity of the individual from others reading the post, if that person does not want to have their true identity publicly disclosed in, or publicly associated with the post? If I sign my post using my Screen Name, but then it is identified with my legal name when I post it, what good does it do to have a Screen Name? Is there some way to have the software not use my legal name, but identify my posts by my Screen Name only, if I so choose that option? (Of course, Administrators at Adobe can always (presumably) identify the (real name) author of the post, via the registration information associated with a Screen Name, should the need arise.)
Sincerely,
SpaceAdventurer

Thanks for the reply, mytaxsite.co.uk. And thanks for the screenshot showing me that my name is displayed to you as "spaceadventurer," which is what I had intended / wanted.
I understand now, from reading through most of the original and replies to the post,Real name instead of Screen name displayed, where I noticed you replied several times, that the Screen Name / real legal name works this way on Adobe’s forums:
When you are logged in - YOU (and only you) see your real legal name everywhere on the forums / web site, and associated with all of your posts
When you are not logged in (to Adobe / forums with your Adobe username / password), you always see your name associated with your posts as your Screen Name only
Everyone else always sees your screen name, everywhere, on all posts, regardless of whether they (everyone else) are logged in or logged out. (Unless, of course, you set up your profile to have your Screen Name be your real legal name. Then everyone will always see your real legal name associated with your posts.)
When logged in, in the “Edit Communities Profile” web page (from the menu that appears when you click your Avatar in the black Adobe menu bar at the top of the screen), in the “Privacy” tab on that page, there is a “widget” called ‘Preview your profile’ in the upper right-hand corner of that tab. This widget is supposed to show you how you or others, depending on which selection you make from the dropdown in the widget, will see your Profile (and therefore, your name) from their computers. In fact, no matter which selection you make from the dropdown, the display of your profile that is produced ALWAYS shows your real legal name, which is misleading, because that is not in fact, what others will see. Others, whether “Registered Users,” “Friends,” or “Everyone,” will ALWAYS see your Screen Name only. (Except for the exception I mentioned in the immediate previous bullet.)
There is a way to change your Screen Name, should you feel the need to do so. The steps to do that are detailed in response no. 75 to the "Real name instead of Screen name displayed" forum post.
Does it sound to you like I have captured the gist of the main learnings that can be gleaned from that post ("Real name instead of Screen name displayed”)?
Thanks,
SpaceAdventurer

• External links in these forum posts

Hi,
Is it possible to ensure external links in the forum posts open in new windows or tabs (according to the users browser settings).
Navigating away from the forum and then navigating back to read more of a post is a bit of a pain.
Thanks
Phil

nope, unless someone add target="blank" to the links they post.
