LinkToAction inside TreeByNestingTableColumn
Hello Guys!
Does anybody knows how to get a reference to the context element using the onAction method of the LinkToAction UI element inside a TreeByNestingTableColumn?
The onAction is being called but I cannot get the current context element.
In the wdModifyView I did the source mapping for LinkToAction element but a runtime exception is being thrown.
I'm using NW SP12.

Lead selection occurs before onAction -- so you may refer wdContext.nodeYourTableNode().currentYourTableNodeElement() inside action handler.

To display LinkToAction :
One option would be to create 10 LinktoAction UI in the layout. All would have differeent actions available to which you can write the logic as per required.
If you want to dynamically add LinkToAction on a button event or so , then you can use RowRepeater UI and inside this place LinkToAction. On every action of button , add one more LinkToACtion. This would be good if you dont know the number of UI at design time but as you know that you want 10 LinkToAction, create UI and make them invisible by default . When required , make the LinkToAction Visible.

TreeByNestingTableColumn - how to set lead selection?
Hallo Guys!
I am using TreeByNestingTableColumn in my project. I am searching for a way to select a certain context element inside of the tree shown in such a table. I actually know that setLeadSelection doesnt work properly in such a case.
Ive already read this very helpful blog /people/valery.silaev/blog/2005/06/20/master-of-columns-part-ii searching for a solution, but its seemed not to be there.
Valery had shown how to read the selected context element recursively, but there is nothing about to how to set the needed lead selection for a certain one.
In my scenario, I am loading the whole table (10-15 elements) with only two levels of hierarchy. After the user clicks on a button I have to reload this table but keep the selection of the previously selected element.
The try using getTreeSelection didnt succeed either.
Any ideas?

You can use the following methods to set the selection.
IWDNodeElement nodeElement = wdContext.nodeOrders().getElementAt(2);
wdContext.nodeOrders().setTreeSelection(nodeElement);

How can I wrap the text for LinkToAction UI Element.
Hi All,
I am trying to wrap the text for LinkToAction UI Element which is inside the group.I have set the wrap property to be true.But still its not getting wrapped.I have set the width of the group to be 0px.I have even set the wrap property for the RootUIElementContainer and set the width property to be 0 px.I am using the FlowLayout.Any ideas are appreciated.

Create LinkToAction with Image by run time

I want to create linkToAction UI's with different images by run time. But if I try the code below I get always the same image for every linkToAction UI. What is my mistake? And how can I solve this problem?

The Web Dynro binding model does not support "index binding". This means binding multiple image UI elments to the same attribute in a multiple context node (cardinaltiy 1..n) means, that all images are bound to the node's lead selection. That's what you implement with
linkToAction.bindImageSource( wdContext.nodeGlob_Struc(). getNodeInfo().getAttribute(IGlob_StrucElement.URL__THUMBNAIL) );
Armin's solution is based on the fact, that he breaks the data binding principle by directly setting the imageSource property values.
Sharam, when reviewing your code I find several "problems":
1. Never ever store UI elements in the context. I assume you do this in order to access UI elements outside wdDoModifyView() as it is static. There is no need to do this.
2. Then you break databinding by setting the imageSource property in the linkToAction object (stored in the context) directly, breaking databinding.
3.) Finally you "un-do" this hard property setting by binding it to the context again. This has the effect you described.
Breaking the data binding principle for UI elements has an important drawback. It also breaks the generic Web Dynpro caching mechanisms. Read my article on

To maximize the rendering performance of your Web Dynpro application, implement all fine-grain UI manipulations on context instead of UI element level. This means do not call the setter-methods of UI element objects inside wdDoModifyView()directly but bind the related properties to the context and call the corresponding setter methods outside wdDoModifyView():
<b>Not:</b> wdDoModifyView(){ theField.setEnabled(true) }
<b>But:</b> wdDoInit(){ wdContext.currentFieldNode.setEnabled(true) }.
Otherwise Web Dynpros caching mechanisms cannot speed up the rendering of view layouts.
The view controllers wdDoModifyView() method is designed for a special purpose: the creation of a UI tree or UI sub-tree at runtime in case it is not possible to declare the UI at design time. The method is neither intended for fine-grain UI manipulations nor for context manipulations. Fine-grain UI manipulations are achieved via means of data binding. Context manipulations are done in wdDoInit(), action event handlers or event handlers.
Unfortunately, the name wdDoModifyView() is somewhat misleading since the purpose of it is to create (and not to modify) a UI tree dynamically. While the usage of wdDoModifyView() in order to create a UI tree initially (firstTime == true) is not performance critical, modifying an existing UI tree (firstTime == false) is: Changing only one single attribute of a single UI element within wdDoModifyView() flags the complete view containing the control as dirty and the complete view must be completely re-rendered again depending on the size and complexity of the view this can result in significant performance hits.
But in your case databinding cannot be applied, as index binding is not supported. The only databinding solution must use multiple/n nodes of cardinatliy 1..1 instead of 1 node of cardinality 1..n with no node elements. And this would require further coding for dynamic context node creation, copy logic based on value semantic.

Hello,
I have a problem using links inside Web Dynpro that look like this:
outlook:000000005e924c6a1314c8489b8e6c858fdfc70c... etc.
It keeps attaching this string to the relative path. If my server for example is at https://server/application it will create https://server/application/outlook:0000... and so forth, rendering the link unusable (it should spawn ms outlook and display a certain message.)
Also I have links that contain backslashes (f.ex.
home_dir\file1.zip).
Those are all Microsoft issues, as these are not correct URLs, but how can I make them work in Web Dynpro? Can't I force LinkToAction (which opens a new window with the url..) / LinkToURL to set the href-value of the link verbatim?

secondly if m getting u right ,i think you wanna execute some action on portal
like u want to upload some file on particluar location on portal
then portal admin will porivde u the path for this.
u wont have to give http//: <server name>/.....
because as u r deploying file on the same server it will get path for that server itself..all u need to prove the folder location..tht you can get from portal administrator.

How do I find a point (x,y) is lies inside a circle? I trying to do a small shooting game.
If the user clicks inside the circle they get a point. I am using the Pythagoras theorem to achieve this. But I can't.

Remote Access VPN Clients Cannot Access inside LAN
I have been asked to set up remote access VPN on an ASA 5505 that I previously had no invlovement with. I have set it up the VPN using the wizard, they way I normally do, but the clients have no access to anything in the inside subnet, not even the inside interface IP address of the ASA. Thay can ping each other. The remote access policy below that I am working on is labeled VPNPHONE, address pool 172.16.20.1-10. I do not need split tunneling to be enabled. The active WAN interface is the one labeled outside_cable.

You have your "group-policy" set so that you have excluding some networks from being tunneled.
In this access-list named Local_LAN_Access you specify "0.0.0.0"
Doesnt this mean you are excluding all networks from being tunneled? In other words no traffic goes to your tunnel.
This access-list should only contain your local LAN network from where you are connecting with the VPN Client. If you dont need to access anything on your local LAN while having the VPN on, you don't even need this setting on. You could just tunnel all traffic instead of excluding some networks.

Thank you for the response. I followed the link and tried reading everything you posted on AEs but I'm afraid that I didn't understand it all. It seems that each AE example had a single input and a single output (e.g. a double). Is this the case?
What I have is a couple of front panel clusters containing (approximately) 18 control doubles, 8 indicator doubles, 5 boolean radio button constructs and 26 boolean control discretes. I clusterized it to make it readable. In addition I'll eventually have a cluster of task references for hardware handles.
All I want to do is update the front panel values like I would do in a C, VB or any other language. I've tried referencing the cluster and using the reference from inside the loops. I've tied using local variables. Neither works. I'm experimenting with globals but it seems that I have to construct the front panel in the gloabal and then I wouldn't know how to repoduce that on the front panel of the main VI. Sometimes it seems that more time is spent getting around Labview constructs than benefitting from them.
I hope the 'Add Attachment' function actuals puts a copy of the VI here and not a link to it.

Is there some ADSL modem doing NAT and providing Internet connection or something?
One obvious problem in the above configuration is the route
route outside 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 192.168.1.4 1
Its not actually even a default route and furthermore its pointing to the ASA itself
It should be something like this
route outside 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.x
Where the 192.168.1.x is the IP of the device providing the Internet connectivity to the ASA (Since ASA "outside" interface is using private IP address range)
If there ASA doesnt need to do any NAT then you could also add this
access-list INSIDE-NAT0 permit ip 192.168.99.0 255.255.255.0 any
nat (inside) 0 access-list INSIDE-NAT0
Also your DHCP configurations dont have any DNS servers defined.

Trying to show() and play() a symbol from inside another symbol
Hi Everyone !
I'm running into a problem which is getting me crazy.
I have the following case :
- 1 symbol (_Page_Background) containing an animation with the following trigger @0s :

- 1 element (B_TOYS), inside of a symbol (BUTTONS) with the following "click" trigger :
// Showing the _Page_Background symbol
sym.getComposition().getStage().getSymbol("_Page_Background").show();
// Start playing it
sym.getComposition().getStage().getSymbol("_Page_Background").play("INTRO");
The Symbol _Page_Background starts hidden, like it should. But when I click on the button (B_TOYS), nothing happens. Although, everything was working correctly before I turned my buttons into symbols ..
I guess the problems lies with the "show()" function, because I have other buttons that work properly but they don't show/hide anything, they just play()
Am I missing something ?!

Think of symbols as independent timelines that can contain other elements, or instances of other symbols. The Stage/main timeline is a symbol as well. Scripting calls are scoped to the symbol that the script is in. The keyword sym stands for the symbol that you're in with the script.
So if your script is at the same level as what you are targeting with it:
Use sym.$("elementName") to access an element's properties
Use sym.getSymbol("symbolName") to access a symbol's timeline. If there's another symbol inside that symbol that you want to access, you'd use sym.getSymbol("symbolName").getSymbol("childSymbolName")...that's only two levels deep, but you can go as deep as needs be.
If you're trying to access an element in a symbol, you'd combine these two, such as sym.getSymbol("symbolName").$("elementName")
When your script is within a symbol and you want to access an element or symbol outside of the symbol timeline:
Use sym.getParent() to get to any elements that are in the parent symbol (the symbol which contains the symbol you're calling from), which could be the Stage or could be another parent symbol
Use sym.getComposition().getStage() from any symbol level to access things at the main Stage level. You can also dive into a symbol on the Stage from any symbol using sym.getComposition().getStage().getSymbol("symbolName").
