LIS Structure - Changing Update Rules

We have just changed from using the normal Julian Calendar to a 445 Fiscal Calendar. I have two Self defined LIS structures that I need to change from monthly updating to FY variant updating. I know that all data will be lost when we make this change.
I have made the change in our sandbox environment. When adding manual quantites to the structure using MC94 the monthly buckets are still displayed, however the automatic updating is using the FY buckets. The table now contains manual data in monthly buckets and auto updated data in Fiscal buckets.
How do I change the table for manual data entry to the FY variant?

Hi,
you can only use this option if the characteristics in the target is present in the attribute of any of the characteristics present in the source data package i.e. data source ...then only it will give you that char as the option.

Update rules/communication strucuture clarifications

I am really getting confused in figuring out whats finally coming to the data-target or in general mappings. I have a single ods that has 4 update rules from 4 distinct infosources.
q1. what is in my communication stucture ( does it change if there are one infosource as oppose to many). My understanding was that it is a replica of your data target and if thats the case why dont i see some of the infoobjects in my ods even though they are in the communication strucutre and also getting mapped in the transfer rules.
q2. Now with 4 update rules i see in two of them the 0calendar day infoobject is maped to 0calendar day in one and posting date in another one. Also another date feilds(date of confirmation info-object) is being mapped by two different date feilds in each of them one by budat feild and another by calday feild. So my question is whats finally coming in these objects in this particular ods.

Hi Mark,
This is how it is connected:
DataSource->Transfer Structure->Transfer Rules->Communication Structure->InfoSource->Update Rules->Data Target (e.g. ODS)
You will have 1 communication structure per InfoSource. The question on "what's the final data that comes to my ODS" actually depends on what is the structure of each InfoSource (e.g. do they contain similar characteristics and Key Figures), what is the update mode in your update rules (e.g. is it "overwrite", "Add"?), and also the sequence of your data load.

Urgent....Transported Update rules active version but still not active....

i have changed a datasource and an ODSA
and this ODSA which also acts as a datamart to ODSB
so i have transported, transfer rules, transfer structure, infosource, update rules of ODSA and also the
update rules of ODSB as well
And before realsing the request into quality i have replicated the datasource from R/3 as well and then realsed this request to Quality everything is active like transfer rules, infosource, transfer structure
ODSA update rules
But the ODSB update rules are not active kindly tell how to make them active.
so again i have regenerated the export datasource and then again i transported only update rules of
ODSB.
but still the update rules are inactive, kindly someone guide me how to make them active
as i have to send this to production which is having 4 years of historical data so please kindly
help me.

Copying of Update Rules

I need to copy the update rules. Let me explain the requirement:
The standard business content in SD provides the update rules from InfoSource 2LIS_12_VCHDR to InfoCube 0SD_C03.
We have created an ODS (ZSD_O01) on the InfoSource 2LIS_12_VCHDR, with the one-to-one field mapping in the update rules.
As a result, the update rules from ODS ZSD_O01 to InfoCube 0SD_C03 are exactly identical to the Business Content Update rules between the InfoSource 2LIS_12_VCHDR and InfoCube 0SD_C03.
Can I copy (All) the update rules "between the InfoSource 2LIS_12_VCHDR and InfoCube 0SD_C03" and paste them for the update rules "from ODS ZSD_O01 to InfoCube 0SD_C03" ??.
If you right-click on any individual update rule line (Go to Change Update rules), you see two options: 1. Copy Rule (F6), 2. Copy Update Rules (Ctrl + F12). What is the purpose of these two?

Hi,
I hope update rules can be copied only if they are based on same Datasource.
For example if you want to copy update rules for Cube1 to cube2 it can be done only if these two cubes are based on same ODS or Infosouce.

Transport routine in update rule

Dear All,
I have new routine in update rule, after development test is ok,
I transported to quality environment, but return with error code: 8.
The new routine and changed update rule are in same request number.
I think maybe I must separate and transport the routine first,
before I transport the update rule.
Now, how transport this routine?
I also confused to find the routine generated number because there are a lot of routine
in this update rule.
I already triggered by update the routine again (to prompt request window),
transported the request and I have the same result.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Transfer rules :use the transfer rules to determine how you want the transfer structure fields to be assigned to the communication structure InfoObjects
Update Rules :Update rules specify how the data (key figures, time characteristics, characteristics) is updated to data targets from the communication structure of an InfoSource. You are therefore connecting an InfoSource with a data target.
Basically update rules are specific to Data Targets where as Transfer rules applies to InfoSource.When you want rule to apply to all the datatargets from a Infosource ,you write it in Transfer rules.

Can anybody tell me how to implement a user exit of update rule for LIS info structure, for ex,S140.

There is no user exit and we are not allowed to modify the update rules of the standard SAP info structures. However, you can create your own info structure with the same or similar configuration and then apply a formula or a requirement in the update definitions (MC25 transaction), as you please.
After that you can just turn off the update of S140 (in OMO1 transaction) and use your own info structure instead in MCSI transaction.

No changes in Update rules even after changes in Communicatin struct

I have made changes to a transfer structure i.e. I added a field in the Communication structure and mapped in the transfer structure. I was expecting the update rule to be deactivated after this. But the Update rule is activated. Because of this I am not able to accomodate my new infoObject in the update rule. What might be the problem?

Hi KK PP,
Update rules are only pertained to Data targets,These helps to map the object to the Infosource using a rule.If you change the transfet structure or communication structure it will not effect update rules.If you add some object to your data target then update rules will be changed.

LIS & Update Rules...?

Hi Gurus,
I am doing extraction by using generic information structure. so to create update rules for comm. structure and information structure, i have few doubts here.
For keyfigure i am taking NETWR from comm. structure MCVBAK. in general rules these is option Event and Update type. so i given the event VA.( we have to pass VA because this is related information for Tcode VA01,VA02 etc) so here what is update type...? In third block under Date field for period determination option there is two fields that "Table for data and Date field". so what it means here again..
check all this in Tcode MC24, in that double click any KF. so that you get the pop up screen, in that pop up screen there is all the above fields. please let me know from anyone what is purpose of these fields here...

Whether this extract tables should be updated immediately when document is changed. Or should it be updated later
Like that you mention mode of update here
MCVBAP - From this table date will be extracted when you extract data
ERDAT - This is the field for Date in that table
This is just a detailed screen for the field ...

"Error when activating update rule" after changing ODS key

Hi Gurus,
I have problem when transporting in productive system an existing ODS & the update rule linked. The message is : "Error when activating update rule".
This is when i move one field from the key to a simple field of the ODS.
Before transporting requests, i deleted data in the ODS by right-click on ODS --> Request tab --> select the request --> click on delete....
I don't understand because i did the same in Qual environment and everything is OK : transport request & ODS loading...
Please help.....

Please try to check/perform the following steps:
1- You must ensure for the update rule have mapping between infosources
   and ODS/CUBEs correct, this means that also these objects need
   to be of the same version in the source system of the transport as in
   target system.
2- Please ensure all infoobjects in the cube are active.Please
   reactivate all the objects again in source system.
3- Ensure all infoobjects are found in the communication structure.
4- Please try to collect the update rule via BW transport connection
   with the grouping option "only necessary objects" and then transport
   those objects again.
Could you please reactivate the infocube and its update rules again
and then create a new transport for this infocube and transport it
again.

How to update order of Characterstics in LIS structure?

i am trying to activate self defined SIS structure but at the time of creating maintain update rule in transaction MC24 i am getting error
please guide what i am missing
DDIC structure S990 for info structure S990 not active in Data Dictionary

It is not possible to maintain the updating procedure since DDIC structure S990, which belongs to info structure S990, is not active.
The info structure has probably been saved but not generated.
Procedure
The info structure must be generated.

If so collect that in a request and transport it.

Change description of update rule between ODS'es

Hi!
In a BW 3.5 system I have the following problem: I cannot change the description of an update rule between two ODS'es.
When creating such a rule the system automatically generates the technical name and takes the description of the source ODS for the naming of the update rule. Afterwards I have changed the description of the ODS. I have deleted the old update rule and recreated it. When selecting the source ODS from the F4 picklist the new description can be seen. When the source ODS is selected and the update rule is generated, the old description has appeared again however.
Does anybody knows how this is possible and what can be done about it?

Hi Avneet,
Lets say Material group is an attribute of 0MATERIAL. You cube contains Material and also Material Group as a separate characteristic (not as navigational attr) becasue you want to store the value of material group as it was during the time the transaction happened.
But here you transactional data coming from the source brings Material values, not values of Material Group. So in the update rule for Material Group, you can specify "Master data attribute of" 0MATERIAL. What the system will do is take the value of 0MATERIAL on this record and populate Material Group taking the value that is present in Material Master data.
So if Material = M100 and Material Group is MG01 in master data, it will supply MG01 to Material Group char in the cube.
