List blog entries?

Ordinarily on a blog there is a list of all of your entries on the side of the page, but it doesn't appear that iWeb allows for this. Is there a way to make one that updates as you enter in new blog entries? I guess the blog archive would have worked, but adding the Archive page to the menu is grayed out. What does everyone else do to display all of your blog entries +(besides having all of them display on the main blog page)+ ?

That's a shame. I can't image a reader of a blog constantly returning to the blogs home page and then also constantly clicking on the archive link At least they should allow the archive link to be added to all of the blog pages nav menu. Having the last 10 blog entries +(titles only)+ shown somewhere on each blog page would be the best way to do it. That's how Wordpress does it and their blogs are much easier to navigate. Sadly I'm getting the feeling that sooner or later i'll need to switch to using Wordpress if I want to maintain a professional looking blog. That will be sad because I really enjoy using iWeb. I don't understand why iWeb doesn't allow you to add modules to increase iWebs functionality. That's one of the main reasons why Wordpress took off and became so popular so quickly. Hope the next version of iWeb is much more robust so we can return to using it again for blogs.

  • Photos not showing up in 'blog' list of entries?

I've customized my blog entry pages, so the positioning of the photo has been altered ... but I'm still using the 'mask' (that was the placeholder for the still in the original template). But the picture is not showing up automatically in the Entries 'list'.
In the 'Blog summary' pop-up menu the 'show photos' box is clicked on, and the size adjustment set to larger than 'o'. But I don't see a pic in the appropriate place in the list.
I'm wondering what I might have done when customizing the page to make the picture no longer appear in the list?

    Bonjour
You may have an issue with the image placeholder in the entry. Never remove the placeholder, even for a "cut-paste". If you cut-paste the image in this placeholder, you will have even the tooltilps "this is placeholder, drag a new media here to replace it" and it seems to be ok but it's wrong, you won't have an image in the blog summary of the blog main page anymore. So you will have to rebuild your entry from scratch.
Be careful if your duplicate the placeholder, only the original one works properly. Never delete it.

  • How to delete a blog entry in Lion Server Wiki?

Anyone know how to do this?  It seems that even logged in as system administrator you cannot delete blog entries using the web interface.
Wiki help unhelpfully reports that "If Delete Page or Delete File isn't listed, you can't delete the page or file.".  Really?
Thanks in advance for any help avail.

The above works most of the time, but sometimes User accounts can be stubborn.  I setup an admin account, perhaps unecessarily, when installing lion on a new solid state hard drive.  After migrating my original Admin account over from the hard drive I had difficulty in removing the newly created Admin (method: I clicked the minus and deleted the home folder, checking 'erase home folder securely') which resulted in the acct. being downgraded to Standard.  Still it would show up at startup login screen.  Although logging in to this account (to attempt to logout and then reattempt the delete) was not possible (never ending spinning beachball - not what you want with 20G RAM and a top end SSD).
    Then I found this -

  • How do I change the order of blog entries?

How can I change the order of my blog entries? I want to add some extra items with an earlier date but iWeb won't let me drag the entries around and insists they must stay in the order of the creation date. What do I do?
    Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Chris...
yeah, I'm probably not making myself clear... change the date on the podcast page entry. Select the entry you want to edit, then move your mouse down to the actual page that appears below. On that page, below the title, is a date. Change that. It will change the date published in the entry list above.
    Sunday, March 6, 2006
This is the standard listing... day spelled out, Month and day number, year. iWeb has to see it in this format to make the changes above.

  • Lost iWeb '09 Blog Entries

I kept a number of blogs pertaining to my pregnancy and several other topics. A few months ago, I moved the blogs from my main site and created a new site I called Archive. My plan was to publish these to a folder for backup purposes, but the publish always fails.
My larger problem is that now, the blog entries seem to be...not gone, exactly, but I can't see them. On two, the main blog page shows up, and when I click on Entries, I can see the list of my entries and their titles, but I can't scroll through them (list snaps back if I release the mouse button). I can't click on them either. One blog works just fine. One shows the main splash page, but shows only the background of the Entries page.
iWeb won't let me move these out of my Archive site. I have been unable to publish them to MobileMe or to a folder. I've tried deleting plists, etc. but nothing works. Restoring from backup messes up my current sites.
Help, please. I'd like to not lose these. Are these files alive somewhere?

The entries are kept on the MobileMe server I believe and are linked to your main site. If you can move those blog sites back into your main site you might be able to get the entires back. No guarantee however.

  • Is there a blog entry limit?

I've been searching the forums for an answer, but haven't been able to find one. Before moving from Rapid Weaver to iWeb 2.0 (my blog), I am interested in knowing whether there is a limit to the number of individual blog entries you can have in iWeb?
Another quick question. . . the iWeb's Help Viewer says that you can add images using a media placeholder. When I insert a placeholder (and image) into a blog entry, the image shows up fine there. But none of the images show up on the summary page.
I have made sure that the excerpt setting allows plenty of room for the image, in fact, text under the image shows up in the summary, but there's just a blank space where the image should be.
Does the blog summary page no longer support placeholders/images within an entry?

There is an *+iWeb '08 Getting Started Manual PDF+* on line:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iWeb08_GettingStarted.pdf
This is on Page 16 from the above manual:
"To add a new blog entry:
1 In the sidebar, click Entries.
2 Click the Add Entry button.
The new entry appears below the Title list with placeholder text and graphics.
3 Double-click the placeholder text to change the title and add your own text to the entry.
4 Drag graphics from iPhoto or elsewhere on your computer to replace the placeholder graphics. (If the Media Browser isn’t open, click Media in the toolbar and then click Photos to access your photos.)
If you make changes to a blog entry, such as changing the font or the background color, you can duplicate the entry the next time you add an entry and keep the same formatting."
There may be more info to read that you may need!

  • Photos in Blog entries

Okay so the photos that I put into blog entries are default 400x300. If I try to put in a picture with different dimensions it cuts part of the picture off. Now if I delete the placeholder image and then insert the pic I want that works fine but then when I look at list of blog entries that does not show up I have to actually go into that blog entry to see it.
What can I do to either change the behavior that placeholder image uses to not cut images off that are bigger than 400x300 or make it so that once I delete that place holder the image I use shows up in the blog article list not just on that entries page.

I had this headache awhile back, and I put up this page that kinda describes what's going on. And, there's a workaround as well.
    http://web.mac.com/makentosh/iWeb/tipsfromtheiceberg/Blog/54D7F1A1-8604-4723-838 B-C3C164BD5102.html
The problem is, the workaround means that there's empty space between the edges of your pic and the border. What you can try to do is fix up your so that dropping it in the placeholder makes it look good on the entries page, then go into the inspector and set that placeholder's image opacity to zero. Then, just drop in the image you want to display on the entry page.
This way, you get an image that you've customized specifically for the main page, plus you can still display the image as you want to on the entry page.

  • Blog Entries Saved to Folder

    Hi all:
I hope those of you who have already used iWeb 2 can answer me. One of the worste thing of the previous version of iWeb was that when I added a new post to my blog and saved it folder, it saved AGAIN all the other unedited posts and pages too. Therefore, when I add the 301th post I have to wait for iWeb to save all the 300. And this is pure madness.
Can I save only the new blog entries with iWeb 2?
    Thanks,
    -Antonio

I have note tested this yet but I feel quite sure nothing has changed for you.
When you add an entry to your blog your blog's base page has changed it's content; you understand that it must regenerate and upload that page anew. Your archive page too has changed in the respect that it has had the last listed entry on the base page added to the top of it's parade.
It only makes sense that it would have to upload both of these. So I assume it is storing these as two basic pages. One of which, in your case, is extremely large, the archival one. It's true a better approach would be to save 300+ pages and just use url's, but apparently they have decided against this.
I might suggest that you make an entirely separate page for your archival construction and route to it from your base page, rather than letting iWeb take care of all of that for you. If your home-made archival page never changes, it won't upgrade.
So you have your base page with 5 or 10 entries, your archival page with say another 20 or so, then you have your mega-archive as a different blog page inside iWeb, and route user with a url at the bottom of the iWeb archive page.
iWeb isn't the best tool for all jobs. If I was that industrious and had a 300+ entry blog I'd use iBlog (which is a **** of a nice program) or blog.mac, also a great program. Just a thought.
    Good luck!

  • Blog entry names

I want to use FTP (Fetch) to upload only new blog entries, not the whole blog, to my own domain name. I found this, which tells how to do it (thank you very much!):
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2679140&#2679140
My question is, how do you tell which is the new blog entry when you save to a folder? The names are such long, gibberish-looking things, and the creation date is the same for all the entries. Does it save them in alphabetical order? Do I have to keep a list of all the blog names so I can look for the different one? (shudder)
    Thanks,
    Satya

i don't blog on the website i have, but one way to do this is to upload everything.
Alternatively, you could see what is different from what is on the FTP server and upload that.
    Good luck!

  • Adding tag to blog entries

    Hi,
I'd like to be able to add tag to blog entries when submitting through a workflow, the purpose is to authorize typing them as additional userRequirments ou hardcoded ones in the workflow (podcast formats, sizes,...)but i can't find in "man pcastaction" how to do this..
Do anyone has an idea how to do this ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Julien

I suspect that blogging may be low on the priority
scale for Apple. Otherwise they would have enabled
.Mac to be usable for this without resort to things
like Haloscan ages ago. Most effort will probably be
devoted to further enhancing the ability to share
music, photos, and movies. Though I could be
    wrong....
Essentially, I agree with you, but they sure are trying to give the impression otherwise with iLife '06's tagline, "Music. Photos. Movies. Blogs." But I wouldn't expect them to even think about updating anything until "iLife '07" and who know what blogging will look like then (the only app Apple seems to update regularly is iTunes because it makes them the most money). I really like iWeb and the version 1.0 is a good offering. But where it's lacking, it's REALLY lacking. And Apple is too slow with the updates.
Consider how surprisingly little was updated in iWork '06 from the previous version, in spite of a long list of feature requests, especially for Pages.
Who knows? Maybe I should suggest that the RapidWeaver developers merely add the drag and drop functionality of iWeb to their product. We might have better luck with that.

  • Image from blog entry page not showing up on 'home' page of blog

My first blog entry went well. I created a blog first page, then created an entry, and dragged a picture to that entry. I saved, published, and all looked great. Even the comment area worked. But when I created a second entry page, and dragge a picture to it, and saved, the photo is not showing up on that first page of the blog, the one that reads like a list only with a picture and teaser part of the entry...See http://web.me.com/brendatharp1/brendatharpblog/OnTheRoad/OnTheRoad.html
The entry listing is there on the first page, and when you click on the title link, it takes you to the entry page and the photos are there. I noticed that on the first page, the Sept 13th entry with photo is inside a text box of sorts - this was the layered paper template I used and then modified. Dbl-clicking to make that box interactive shows the black floating box for dealing with the placement of the photo in that list; but that box only relates to that one photo from the 13th. If I drag and drop the 15th's photo there, it just sits over the text and doesn't interact. AND I didn't have to do that with the first entry. Any ideas out there? Thanks much, Brenda.

    Does this thread help http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1711038&tstart=15
I have experienced this and it was because I removed the placeholder and just added the image on the entry page. I duplicate blog entries and delete content to add new stuff so don't have to reformat every time, if you do that don't remove the image just add on the top - it should replace the previous image. Hope this helps, it is frustrating at times but the more you learn the easier it becomes.

  • Post wiki/blog entries from iphone?

i gather from what i have read of the docs, that the default presentation of blogs and wikis on the iphone is read-only.
i'm wondering if i might be able to pick up a blog-editing tool (along the lines of ecto or something, but simpler and for the iphone) that would make it possible to make quick posts - i.e. to take a photo or video and post it to a blog from the iphone with a short caption.
i'm kind of surprised that apple chooses to feature "iphone support" on the page describing the snow leopard collaboration services, but that their idea of supporting the iphone is so limited - especially since when they introduced the iphone 3GS, they demo'd uploading videos to youtube.
anyone have any ideas? i see in the wikiserver documentation that the server is supposed to support the AtomPub and MetaWebLog API's, but then i don't see any mention of support for apple-snow-leopard-wiki-server (what is it actually called anyway?) in the documentation of any tools in the itunes store.
Blogwriter - bad reviews. no mention of supporing os x server wikis/blogs.
Wordpress - right idea, but afaik, this works only for wordpress blogs?
Blog with iBlogger! - by the folks who do ecto for the mac. looks vaguely promising, but does not list support for 10.6 server blogs and has mix of positive/negative reviews. also costs $10.
Blog Press - similar in scope to Blog with iBlogger!. $3. some bad reviews.

Is it possible to add a new blog entries from an iPhone ?
No, you can't do anything to an iWeb blog without using iWeb. Use something else for your blog.

  • How to adjust the number of blog entries on the archive page?

Does anyone know how to adjust the number of blog entries on the archive page?
As it stands now the blog archive page lists the archives past the 4000px page length in what appears to be a long endless list.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks Wyodor but that just adjusts the entries on the blog page....not the blog archive page.
On the blog archive page it's just a long endless list of entries. It appears that you simply cannot adjust this on the archive page. Additionally if the blog entries exceed 50 I have to start deleting older entries.
Overall iWeb has served my needs well but this issue *****. They could probably fix it with a software update if they wanted to.

  • Can't find my blog entries in iWeb.

I had just made several days worth of blog entries in iWeb and saved them.
I went to publish them, and now all of my blog entries seem to have disappeared.
All I see is my "About Me" page.  I see no blog entries.
My desktop file does not appear to have been updated with the blog entries either.
I'm hoping my new entries are not lost as I spent hours making them.

The "http://web.mac.com/yourname/" approach only seems to show the very first site I made. Is there any way to list all pages I have made? Without using iweb?
Well, your old page might still be there. Check in
    this path:
    iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/...
Do you see two folders or one? If you only see one,
then your old pages were probably overwritten. If
you see two folders, then presumably the folder names
represent your old site from the old powerbook and
the new dummy site that you just created. If so,
then you can just point your browser to this address
    to access the old website...
    http://web.mac.com/yourname/iWeb/oldsite/
The new sites that you publish on your new MBP (I'm
jealous, btw) can be accessed via the usual URL...
    http://web.mac.com/yourname/
Unfortunately, even if the folder containing your old
website is on your iDisk, there is currently no way
to get it back into iWeb for editing or revising.
Your only recourse is to recreate the site on your
new MBP. In the future, if you ever move machines
again, just be sure to transfer the "Domain" file
which is located in this path...
    Users/yourname/Library/Application
    Support/iWeb/Domain
This file is where iWeb keeps everything about the
website that you create. Transferring it to a new
machine enables iWeb to pick up right where it left
    off on an old machine.
Of course, I've assumed through this whole message
that you don't have access to this "Domain" file from
your old powerbook, do you? If you do, then you're
    in luck!
    Good luck!

  • Organize blog entries by date

does anyone know how to re organize blog entries by date. Currently when I add a new entry it goes to the top of the list I need new entries to go to the bottom. I am using a blog page as a calendar of events and the order of dates is backwards from the way I need it if you go here you will see what I mean

Thanks For the help.I published the site to a folder, opened both files in dreamweaver and I see what you are saying. But this fix has me manually editing both files every-time I make a new post. and as far as i understand this will not work when publishing to .mac. do you have any other thoughts.
You don't have to redo everything if you keep copy of the edited xml.
When you add a new entry you just copy the last entry from the new xml and paste into the edited xml and replace it (keep a edited copy for future use though).
As for publishing to .mac, your site is located in your iDisk, mount your iDisk, and do the same procedure.
