List of values from Database Adapter - BPM Forms

Hi all,
Can anyone tell me how to get list of values from Database adapter and a ServiceTask.
As example lets say a table has Employee and Department columns.
I want to list down all the Employees in BPM form (Select One List Box) once i provide the department to the Database Adapter.
Is it possible from the DB Adapter?? What will be the variable type?
Thanks,
Nir

Hi DanielAtwood,
Thanks for your reply...
Actually when i send the variable in 'WHERE Clause' in Db Adapter query it will retrieve more than one record as the output.
I want to put that values to a 'SelectOneChoice' component and list down all the values..
First I tried with data control. But i couldn't find the way to pass the value to the variable(in WHERE clause) to the query in data control view.
Thanks,
Nir

    As long as you're unable to compile Java code, please use the 'New to Java' forum. This is really trival.
    To ease writing, debugging and maintenance, I highly recommend you to write Java code in Java classes rather than JSP files. Start learning Servlets.

  • Unable to "Append all values from Database" when creating parameter

    Hello,
    I am creating a report using Remedy AR System ODBC Driver as the connection.  I tried to create a static parameter with the list of values from the database, but I was prompted with the User name and Password for AR System ODBC Data Source instead of the list being append. I entered the correct password, but I got an error message.
    Logon Failed.
    Error in file UNKNOWN.RPT:
    Unable to connect: incorrect log on parameters. (rptcontrollers.dll)
    Any suggestions? please
    Thank you
    Malar

    Hi Malar
    Please let us know the following information:
    - Version of Crystal Reports Designer.
    - The connectivity type (ODBC, Native or OLEDB) you are using to connect to Crystal Reports Designer.
    - If you are using native connection then create a DSN and use ODBC connection and let us know the results.
    Hope this helps!

    i think normally u will get data from databsae as objects.they are like java beans having getter and setter methods.so you create a collection of those objects like collect all the objects coming from database into an arraylist or....
    suppose you want to populate the dropdown box with say "username" from database object s, your code will look like that
    <html:select property="name">
    <html:options collection="databaseList" property="username" />
    </html:select>
    "databaseList" is collection(say.. ArrayList) of objects you are getting from database.this dropdown will contain all the "usernames" you are getting from database.

  • How to load values from database into the f:selectItems value attribute

    Hi,
    I am trying to load the drop down menu value i.e f:selectItems from the database with a list of values from a column in the databse table. how can i do this? Should i use binding? or is there any other way.
    Note:i am able to load values into f:selectItems from the faces-config.xml file but they are static values. i want the values from the database
    Please reply with sample codes of faces jsp, bean file and config.xml file

    But this is working for me,
    JSF
         <h:selectOneMenu value="#{loadbean.grade}" >
              <f:selectItems value="#{loadbean.gradelist}" />
         </h:selectOneMenu>
    bean
    private String grade;
    private List<SelectItem> gradelist;
    public String getGrade() {
              return grade;
         public void setGrade(String grade) {
              this.grade = grade;
         public List<SelectItem> getGradelist() {
              return gradelist;
         public void setGradelist(List<String> items) {
              gradelist=new ArrayList<SelectItem>();
              gradelist.add(new SelectItem("daniel"));//this value can be from data base
              gradelist.add(new SelectItem("pspindia"));
              gradelist.add(new SelectItem("prelude sys"));
    faces-config.xml
    <managed-property>
              <property-name>gradelist</property-name>
              <null-value/>
    </managed-property>
    this working fine for me. So setter method also works to load value for the h:selectItems
    Thanks a lot.

            oform.Items.Item("8").Specific.value = rset.Fields.Item("U_Sal").Value
    but i can see only one record on my form controls.... i have placed on more button called " Next" so that i can access next records from DB when i click on "Next" button...
    Public Sub NextRecords()
    Try
         rset.MoveFirst()
                While Not rset.EoF
                 '   oform.Items.Item("6").Specific.value = rset.Fields.Item("Code").Value
                   oform.Items.Item("7").Specific.value = rset.Fields.Item("Name").Value
                  oform.Items.Item("8").Specific.value = rset.Fields.Item("U_Sal").Value
                   rset.MoveNext()
                End While
                rset.MoveNext()
          Catch ex As Exception
               SBO_Application.MessageBox(ErrorToString)
          SBO_Application.MessageBox("Updated")
           End Try
    End sub
    i'm not able to access next records...
    plz provide me the solution and code for this how to handle this scenario....

    From your question and code sample given, I think the problem is you are seeing only the last record when pressing the next button.
    In the Next button press, you are coded such a way that it will populate the last record.
    Try removing the do..While.. loop and simply code like
    if Not rset.EoF
    rset.MoveNext()
       oform.Items.Item("6").Specific.value = rset.Fields.Item("Code").Value
       oform.Items.Item("7").Specific.value = rset.Fields.Item("Name").Value
       oform.Items.Item("8").Specific.value = rset.Fields.Item("U_Sal").Value
    end if
    So when you click next, you can see the next record. Not the last record.

    Im using the below code to get the values from database table
    bool Table::Get(char* FieldName,int& FieldValue)

        //sprintf(buf,"%s",file);

        fprintf(file, "Connection closed\n");
        fclose(file);
        for(i=0;i<ProjectArrCnt;i++)
            sprintf(buf,"%i",ProjectInfo[i].ProjectID);
            //MessageBox(NULL,buf,"Proj ID",0);
            //MessageBox(NULL,ProjectInfo[i].ProjectName.c_str(),"Project Name",0);
        return 0;
    In the above code im geeting project D which is an integer value. But not able to get the project name.
    Please some one guide me.

    As I said in the other thread, this really isn't the place to ask questions about a database API unrelated to the Illustrator SDK. You're far more like to find people familliar with your problem on a forum that is dedicated to answering those kinds of questions instead.

    say (1-100) for 100 rows
    In the program use random function to get random number between 0 and 1. this value u multiply with 100(or total number of rows) and take integer value of it . u then perform sql query to select the a row which matches randomly genarated value with row-id assigned to each row of database

    Oh dear. I don't think anybody can advise you until you are not "kinda" new to Java anymore. Learn Java itself (the language, the platform and the tools), only then should you start considering going into web development.

  • Error while populating drop down list with values from a database

    Hi all,
    I have a JSP page with a drop down list that is to be populated with values from a database.
    This is the code in my JSP file:
         <!-- Form for picking the floor -->
             <!-- Get the available floors -->
             <% ArrayList<Integer> floornumbers = dataManager.getAllFloorNumbers();
                Iterator<Integer> iterator = floornumbers.iterator(); %>
             <!-- Create the form for users to select the floor -->
             <form id="floorselectionform">
                  <input type="hidden" name="action" value="floorselected"/> <!-- Guides the servlet to redirect to the appropriate page -->
                  Select floor | <select name="floorselector" id="floorselector">
                       <% while (iterator.hasNext()) { %>
                       <option value="<%=iterator.next().intValue()%>"> <%=iterator.next().intValue()%> </option>
                       <% } %>
                  </select>
                  <input type="submit" value="Go!"/>
             </form>   The DataManager.java class simply forwards this to its respective Peer class, which has the code shown below:
          package seatplanner.model;
        import java.sql.Connection;
        import java.sql.ResultSet;
        import java.sql.SQLException;
        import java.sql.Statement;
        import java.util.ArrayList;
        /* This class handles all floor operations */
         public class FloorPeer
         /* This method returns all the floor numbers */
         public static ArrayList<Integer> getAllFloorNumbers(DataManager dataManager) {
            ArrayList<Integer> floornumbers = new ArrayList<Integer>();
            Connection connection = dataManager.getConnection();
            if (connection != null) {
              try {
                Statement s = connection.createStatement();
                String sql = "select ID from floor order by ID asc";
                try {
                  ResultSet rs = s.executeQuery(sql);
                  try {
                    while (rs.next()) {
                      floornumbers.add(rs.getInt(1));
                  finally { rs.close(); }
                finally {s.close(); }
              catch (SQLException e) {
                System.out.println("Could not get floor numbers: " + e.getMessage());
              finally {
                dataManager.putConnection(connection);
            return floornumbers;
         }  The classes compile properly, but when I load this page up in Tomcat it just freezes and does not load the form. I tested the DB connection and it works fine.
    What am I doing wrong in the JSP code?
    Thanks for the help in advance.
    UPDATE: I commented out the form, and added <%=floornumbers.size()%> right above the commented code to check if the ArrayList is indeed getting populated with the values from the database (the values are of type integer in the database). The page still freezes like before. I'm puzzled now :confused: .

    Wrong usage of Iterator.
    <!-- Form for picking the floor -->
             <!-- Get the available floors -->
             <% ArrayList<Integer> floornumbers = dataManager.getAllFloorNumbers();
                Iterator<Integer> iterator = floornumbers.iterator(); %>
             <!-- Create the form for users to select the floor -->
             <form id="floorselectionform">
                  <input type="hidden" name="action" value="floorselected"/> <!-- Guides the servlet to redirect to the appropriate page -->
                  Select floor | <select name="floorselector" id="floorselector">
                       <% while (iterator.hasNext()) {
                                    Integer inte = iterator.next();
                            %>
                       <option value="<%=inte.intValue()%>"><%=inte.intValue()%></option>
                       <% } %>
                  </select>
                  <input type="submit" value="Go!"/>
             </form>or make use of enhanced loop as you are already using J2SE 5.0+ for avoiding confusions.
    <!-- Form for picking the floor -->
             <!-- Get the available floors -->
             <% ArrayList<Integer> floornumbers = dataManager.getAllFloorNumbers(); %>
             <!-- Create the form for users to select the floor -->
             <form id="floorselectionform">
                  <input type="hidden" name="action" value="floorselected"/> <!-- Guides the servlet to redirect to the appropriate page -->
                  Select floor | <select name="floorselector" id="floorselector">
                       <% for(Integer inte:floornumbers) {%>
                       <option value="<%=inte.intValue()%>"><%=inte.intValue()%></option>
                       <%}%>
                  </select>
                  <input type="submit" value="Go!"/>
             </form>and a lot better thing would be making usage of basic Taglib provided with JSTL spec or struts spec which make life easier and simple.
    something like usage of <c:forEach/> or <logic:iterate/> would be lot better without writing a single scriptlet code.
    Hope that might help :)
