Listing join from tables...

Hello all,
I have a page with query from two tables... And am having
problems listing values out of both tables...
The query is :
<cfquery name="dateInfo" datasource="flawlessdb">
SELECT CAprojectDB.ProjectID, CPproduction.ProjectID,
CPproduction.apptDate, CPproduction.servicesPerformed,
CPproduction.recommendations, CPproduction.notes
FROM CAprojectDB,CPproduction
WHERE CAprojectDB.ProjectID = CPproduction.ProjectID
ORDER BY apptDate DESC
</cfquery>
and the output is :
<cfoutput query="dateInfo">
<tr height="20">
<td valign="top" align="center"><div
class="pagestyle">
<a
href="apptRecDetail.cfm?ID=#URLEncodedFormat(ID)#">#CAprojectDB.FirstName#
#CAprojectDB.LastName# </a>
</div></td>
<td valign="top"><div
class="pagestyle">#DateFormat(apptDate)#</div></td>
<td valign="top"><div
class="pagestyle">#servicesPerformed#</div></td>
</tr>
</cfoutput>
The error says :
"Element FIRSTNAME is undefined in CAPROJECTDB."
but I'm sure the field is in the table....
Any help you can give..... greatly appreciated...
John

elDonrico,
The tables are "joined". In pre-ANSI-92 SQL, you can list the
tables in the FROM and join them in the WHERE. (doesn't work with
OUTER joins, however)
--this--
<cfquery name="dateInfo" datasource="flawlessdb">
SELECT CAprojectDB.ProjectID, CAprojectDB.FirstName,
CAprojectDB.LastName, CPproduction.apptDate,
CPproduction.servicesPerformed, CPproduction.recommendations,
CPproduction.notes
FROM CAprojectDB, CPproduction
WHERE CAprojectDB.ProjectID = CPproduction.ProjectID
ORDER BY apptDate DESC
</cfquery>
--is exactly the same as--
<cfquery name="dateInfo" datasource="flawlessdb">
SELECT CAprojectDB.ProjectID, CAprojectDB.FirstName,
CAprojectDB.LastName, CPproduction.apptDate,
CPproduction.servicesPerformed, CPproduction.recommendations,
CPproduction.notes
FROM CAprojectDB
INNER JOIN CPproduction ON CAprojectDB.ProjectID =
CPproduction.ProjectID
ORDER BY apptDate DESC
</cfquery>

  • Adding Drop Down List values from table fields

    Hi all,
    Recently we have switched from Microsoft's Infopath to Adobe's LiveCycle Designer.  In InfoPath i was able to allow a user to enter data in a table and then use that data as values for a drop downlist, which could in turn be used in another table.  Infopath made it relatively easy to do this, but I assume it requires scripting in LiveCycle.  Here is an example that make make it easier to to explain:
    Let's say we have a form with a table that has a colomn where the user can enter a value in a table let's say "Computer Name":
    Computer Name | IP | Vendor | Serial Number|
    PC 1
    ---------------------| 192.168.2.34| HP | US4839494
    PC 2
    PC 3
    PC 4
    Further down the form there is a nother table with a drop down list.  I want the values of the drop down list to be what ever values were entered for "Computer Name" in the previous table.  So in this case the table would look like this:
    Computer Name | Acquisition Date| End of Life Date
    <Drop DownList>|  07/21/2010 | 07/21/2014
    The drop downlist values would be "PC1, PC2, PC3, PC4"  or whatever values were entered in the previous table.  Essentially, I am trying to avoid from having users type in "Computer Name" data every time the "Computer Name" needs to be entered.  It would be so much easier to enter all "Computer Name" values and then use those values as part of a drop down list to avoid excessive typing.
    I hope this makes sense, it is fairly easy to do in InfoPath and I am sure there is a way to do this in LiveCycle.
    Let me know if my explanation is not clear enough.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the feedback, but it doesn't seem to quite accomplish what I am trying to do. I've tried using global binding as you specified, but the outcome is not exactly what I want.  Perhaps this drawing can help depict what I am trying to do:
    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/153/dropdownlist.png/
    On the picture I manually defined the values for the drop down list.  Again, I want these values to be taken from "Computer Name" in the table above.
    Thanks!

  • How do you select data from tables not in the Properties table list?

    Hi I am new to SAP B1.
    I am amending the production order and wish to add fields from the Bill of Materials table Itt1.  However this table is not in the list of tables for this report.
    1. Do I have to redo the whole report in Crystal or is there a way of using the PLD report?
    2. This table join needs to have 2 fields in the join the father and the child item codes.  How many joins can the PLD report look after?  I assume that Relate to is the first join and next segment is a second join.  Am I right or not as I have been unable to find any reasonable documentation on creating and maintaining PLD reports.
    3. Where can I find information if any on System Variables and what data they represent?
    Thanks
    Chris

    Hi Cris,
    welcome to Sdn forum!
    For question 1, i think you can do this using pld.
    For question 2, to be able to view other tables, you will need to hold the ALT button and press the database table(Properties section on the lower right portion of the PLD screen), you can now view other tables. then to join other tables you will need to RELATE to and Next Segment, you can also find this under Properties and go to Content Tab.
    for question 3, you will need to create a query that will lead you to the exact field name, say for example SELECT Price from POR1, this price is actually variable 81 from purchase order line and the equivalent value is the por1.price..

  • How do you join two tables from different Oracle schemas using a subquery

    I am trying to join two tables from different Oracle schemas using a subquery. I can extract data from each of the tables without a problem. However, when I combine the select statements using a subquery I get the Oracle error *'ORA-00936: missing expression'*. Since each SELECT statement executes on its own without error I don't understand what is missing. The result set I am trying to get is to match up the LINE_ID from PDTABLE_12_1 in schema DD_12809 with the MAT_DESCRIPTION from table PDTABLE_201 in schema RA_12809.
    The query is as follows:
    sql = "SELECT [DD_12809].[PDTABLE_12_1].LINE_ID FROM [DD_12809].[PDTABLE_12_1] JOIN " _
    + "(SELECT [RA_12809].[PDTABLE_201].MAT_DESCRIPTION " _
    + "FROM [RA_12809].[PDTABLE_201]) AS FAB " _
    + "ON [DD_12809].[PDTABLE_12_1].PIPING_MATER_CLASS = FAB.PIPING_MATER_CLASS"
    The format of the query is copied from a SQL programming manual.
    I also tried executing the query using a straight JOIN on the two tables but got the same results. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!
    Edited by: user11338343 on Oct 19, 2009 6:55 AM

    I believe you are receiving the error because you are trying to JOIN on a column that doesn't exist. For example you are trying to join on FAB.PIPING_MATER_CLASS but that column does not exist in the subquery.
    If you want to do a straight join without a subquery you could do the following
    SELECT  DD_12809.PDTABLE_12_1.LINE_ID
    ,       FAB.MAT_DESCRIPTION
    FROM    DD_12809.PDTABLE_12_1
    JOIN    RA_12809.PDTABLE_201    AS FAB ON DD_12809.PDTABLE_12_1.PIPING_MATER_CLASS = FAB.PIPING_MATER_CLASS  HTH!

  • How do I do SELECT * FROM TABLE WHERE KEY IN ({list})?

    The title says it all really.
    Is there a reasonable performant way to perform the query
    SELECT * FROM TABLE WHERE KEY IN ({list})where {list} is String []?
    I am currently creating a PreparedStatement with a for loop like this   StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer ("SELECT * FROM TABLE WHERE ID IN (");
      for (int ii=0;ii<keys.length;ii++) {
        sb.append (keys [ii]);
        if (ii != keys.length-1) sb.append (",");
      sb.append (")");but this means that the prepared statement is created each time I call my method and so I'm not sure that the optimizer will find it easy to cope with. Is there a construction that I'm missing along the lines of SELECT * FROM TABLE WHERE KEY = ? where I can create the PreparedStatement once and just call setObject or something on it when the values in {list} change?

    but this means that the prepared statement is created
    each time I call my method and so I'm not sure that
    the optimizer will find it easy to cope with.You are right, the optimizer won't find that easy to deal with (presuming that is even relevant for your driver/database.) But most optimizers won't do anything with statements that change and that is what you are doing.
    You could create several prepared statements which have a common number of bind variables. For example 10 statements with from 1 to 10 bind values. This will work if most of the queries use those.

  • List Creation From Database Table

    I have a form that has two data blocks based on database tables:
    Block #1 = ORDER_LINE
    Block #2 = ORDER_CODE
    The ORDER_LINE block has an item in it that corresponds to an item in the ORDER_CODE block. I want to create a TLIST for this item in the ORDER_LINE block that populates the list from the values for the corresponding item in the ORDER_CODE block. I know that I can use the POPULATE_LIST built in and need a record group, etc, but I have not been able to make any of this work. Can anyone provide good instructions on how to do this? I find the On Line Help within Forms to be totally useless.
    Thanks.

  • No Easy Way to Join on Tables from Different Schemas

    Hi,
    The company policy does not allow to join on tables from different schemas or use db links...
    I'm tasked to come up with a Perl script that does exactly that - allows for the SELECT statement to do several joins on 3 different schemas. In addition 1 of the schemas is on the different host altogether.
    Upping the privileges for my user and allowing db links is not an option...Can someone, please help me to understand on a conceptual level how would I use Perl and what logic would it have and what would it (perl) do?

    What's the point behind creating a table to store the results in?What I am trying to do is copy the data in TABLE to TABLE2 but with the data in E1.COL3 swapped with the one in E2.COL3 based on certain conditions.
    Basically I am just trying to swap the values of a column (COL3) and store it in my new table (TABLE2) together with all the (unswapped) values from all the other columns.
    Ex.
    TABLE
    COL1 COL2 COL3 COL4
    1 1 1 1
    2 2 3 2
    3 3 2 2
    4 4 4 1
    Target result:
    TABLE2
    COL1 COL2 COL3 COL4
    1 1 1 1
    2 2 2 2 <-swapped values
    3 3 3 2 <-in COL3

  • How to prevent Oracle from using an index when joining two tables ...

    How to prevent Oracle from using an index when joining two tables to get an inline view which is used in an update statement?
    O.K. I think I have to explain what I mean:
    When joining two tables which have many entries sometimes it es better not to use an index on the column used as join criteria.
    I have two tables: table A and table B.
    Table A has 4.000.000 entries and table B has 700.000 entries.
    I have a join of both tables with a numeric column as join criteria.
    There is an index on this column in table A.
    So I instead of
      where (A.col = B.col)I want to use
      where (A.col+0 = B.col)in order to prevent Oracle from using the index.
    When I use the join in a select statement it works.
    But when I use the join as inline view in an update statement I get the error ORA-01779.
    When I remove the "+0" the update statement works. (The column col is unique in table B).
    Any ideas why this happens?
    Thank you very much in advance for any help.
    Regards Hartmut

    I think you should post an properly formatted explain plan output using DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY including the "Predicate Information" section below the plan to provide more details regarding your query resp. update statement. Please use the \[code\] and \[code\] tags to enhance readability of the output provided:
    In SQL*Plus:
    SET LINESIZE 130
    EXPLAIN PLAN FOR <your statement>;
    SELECT * FROM TABLE(DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY);Usually if you're using the CBO (cost based optimizer) and have reasonable statistics gathered on the database objects used the optimizer should be able to determine if it is better to use the existing index or not.
    Things look different if you don't have statistics, you have outdated/wrong statistics or deliberately still use the RBO (rule based optimizer). In this case you would have to use other means to prevent the index usage, the most obvious would be the already mentioned NO_INDEX or FULL hint.
    But I strongly recommend to check in first place why the optimizer apparently seems to choose an inappropriate index access path.

    Please post DDL, so that people do not have to guess what the keys, constraints, Declarative Referential Integrity, data types, etc. in your schema are. Learn how to follow ISO-11179 data element naming conventions and formatting rules. Temporal data should
    use ISO-8601 formats. Code should be in Standard SQL as much as possible and not local dialect.

    >> I have 3 tables <<
    No, you have three identical decks of 1950's punch cards written in bad SQL.
    There is no such thing as a generic, universal “id” in RDBMS. It has to be the identifier of something particular.
    Magical columns appear in your query.
    There is no such concept as “child' and “parent” in RDBMS. That was network and hierarchical databases. We have referenced and referencing tables.
    We do not use column positions in the ORDER BY cause; any change in the query used in the cursor will screw up everything.
    Would you like to try again?

    Hi,
    Yes it should work. just import the two db - tables into physical layer then as usual joins b/w both table. it should not have any performance issue.

  • [SBO 2005] Choose from list on User Table

    Hi all,
    I need an information from the developper that already tried the SDK of BO 2005.
    Is it possible to create Choose from List on user tables ?
    I looked at the WebEx, there is no restriction about it, but when I tried in the demo, I can't figure out how to do it.
    Thanks for your help
    Sébastien

    Thank for your input Edward:
    I do have the sample, but it uses a system table (OCRD, Object Type=2)
    It seems that it works for system object or UDO, but not for simple user table. Am I right ?
