Possible to bypass tape and capture live events in FCP via Firewire?

I was thinking to buy a Canon XH-A1E or similar HDV camera. I was wondering if it is possible to run a firewire from the camera during a live event to a laptop running FCP in capture mode and capture the footage to FCP as it is being shot.

If the computer crashed, I believe you would lose the file currently being captured into. In much the same way as if you were to prematurely stop a copy process from one disk to another, it would simply disappear.
At any rate, if the file did survive it would most likely be unusable because the directory entry would be incomplete.

Server 2012 r2 live migration fails with hardware error

Hello all, we just upgraded one of our hyper v hosts from server 2012 to server 2012 r2; previously we had live replication setup between it and another box on the network which was also running server 2012. After installing server 2012 r2 when a live migration
is attempted we get the message:
"The virtual machine cannot be moved to the destination computer. The hardware on the destination computer is not compatible with the hardware requirements of this virtual machine. Virtual machine migration failed at migration source."
The servers in question are both dell, currently we have a poweredge r910 running server 2012 and a poweredge r900 running server 2012 r2. The section under processor for "migrate to a physical computer using a different processor" is already checked
and this same vm was successfully being live replicated before the upgrade to server 2012 r2. What would have changed around hardware requirements?
We are migrating from server 2012 on the poweredge r910 to server 2012 r2 on the poweredge r900. Also When I say this was an upgrade, we did a full re install and wiped out the installation of server 2012 and installed server 2012 r2, this was not an upgrade
installation.

The only cause I’ve seen so far is virtual switches being named differently. I do remember that one of our VMs didn’t move, but we simply bypassed this problem, using one-time backup (VeeamZIP, more specifically).
If it’s one-time operation you can use the same procedure for the VMs in question -> backup and restore them at new server.

1. The ecommerce Stock attribute beta is live with the bugs reported in beta. Including the main one where if you have products with stock attributes, despite them rendering in the export file you can never import products back into the system because of stock sku features. Deleting all products allows you to upload with all sku information as a work around but on some uploads stocks are reset to 0.

4. If you move a pre existing page via FTP into a new created web app folder and rename it to index.html It will not work. In the admin it has no file extension so you have to add it there.
5. Just had it confirmed by live chat support who replicated it on a demo site. Securezone update details form with custom CRM fields.
CRM fields will render current data but will not update the custom CRM fields in the crm on submission of the form.

The methods above don't work at all. Eventually I used a paid tool - PCUnlocker Live CD, and it successfully bypassed my lost admin password.

Powershell / Scientific Notation Woes / Formatting Output to Live Excel Sheet

I have a WMI query in a script that dumps machine information to a live excel sheet.
I find when I query the model # of the machine using (this line of code from the script):
$Sheet.Cells.Item($count,4) = (Get-WmiObject win32_computersystem -ComputerName $computer).Model
The output almost always changes into Scientific Notation, because this is a typical model number : "3500-E52"
Is there a way to modify the formatting of the:
$Sheet.Cells.Item($count,4)
so that Excel uses "text" formatting for that cell? I know you can change the fonts etc... but have not been lucky in finding a powershell > excel reference
that explains how to change a cell or column's formatting beyond the basics.
I have seen recommendations to others to dump the results queries to a CSV first, and then import into Excel (which would allow a manual change of that column's format). I'm just
hoping to bypass the extra "hands on" and format more directly to a sheet in Excel.
If .csv is the best way to go, I'll muddle through it and change the code.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

SB Audigy RX EMU Engine Parameters not as good as SB Live!

I have just migrated from an XP system with a SB Live! card (Model CT4870), to a Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit PC with a SB Audigy RX card. I am very pleased with how it's working out because I really thought I had lost the EMU chip's lush sounds, especially on the reverb side of things.
There is, however, one small problem. I have an effect which applies heavy (I mean HEAVY!) reverb to the sound. I devised it by tweaking parameters from the "Hangar" preset. You can see a copy at http://www.jacobsm.com/MJ_Special_Reverb.Aup
It simply won't import into the EAX studio of the Audigy RX card. It states "Unspecified error". I have worked out what is going wrong. Either the "Reflections Delay" or the "Reverb Delay" parameter is set at 343ms when the Audigy RX seems to only handle delays up to 300ms (the maximum the slider goes to). It is important to me that I can achieve a delay of 343ms in order to get the slap-back echo effect I am striving for. Is there any way of tweaking the RX to accept higher values for the delay? I was using Soundstorm on my Nforce motherboard, with the coaxial digital cable to my Logitech z680 speakers. Everything was fine, except for an occasional pop or click while playing games. My DVDs played back in Dolby digital, my games put out sound in 5. surround, and everything worked great.
I got the Audigy 2zs platinum pro to add additional connectivity, get 24-bit sound, and hopefully, clear up those occassional pops and clicks. If I was very lucky, it would hopefully also reduce the overhead for playing multiple sounds during games.
No luck. I've disabled the onboard decoder on the Audigy (now set to bypass), and I first used the digital coaxial cable to go to the SPDIF connector on the back of the control/connector box. The signal was detected as "stereo". Then I used a mono RCA to mono minijack adapter to connect to the digital minijack connector on the box to the z680 via the coaxial digital cable. It was detected as "stereo". Finally, I got a monster digital optical cable, and connected it from the Audigy box to the z680 optical port (it still read the signal as "stereo").
I played with every setting from "synchronize with control panel" to every input setting on the Logitech decoder. Nothing. Either no sound, or stereo.
But if I re-enable the Soundstorm, and hook the coaxial cable to it, it immediately reads it as a Dolby digital signal.
The z680 speakers I have are older models, over a year old, so I don't know if there is some issue there.
Any suggestions would be very helpful, I'm about to write up a review of the Audigy 2zs PP on my web site, and it's not going to be very complimentary if I can't work this out. No other company on earth uses mini-jack connectors for Dolby digital, and I've got to think Creative did this to make it harder to use competitor's speaker systems with the 2zs.

LCD live viewing & copy work with EOS 70D (W)

Can anyone please provide insight, guidance, solutions to accomplish this efficiently?
Goal/operation:
I want to use the camera for copy work: portfolio, flat art, photos, objects etc. I have old family photo albums I want to copy/photograph each image separately without removing/disturbing/damaging the images in the books.
The camera is mounted on a vertical copy stand shooting down (subject is mainly flat art).
I want to be able to view through the LCD in live view (camera is 90º facing down at copy board), have manual control, set up & align the subject and shoot the photos using the flash lighting system in quick efficient production process.
Equipment used:
Camera EOS 70D (W)
Minolta Copy stand
Novatron 240 portable light system, 2 lights with polarized sheet film
synch connections:
wireless - Pocket Wizard Plus 2 Transceiver.
wired - Nikon AS-15 Hot shot cord adapter
PROBLEM
I am having issues being able to view through the LCD, set up & align the subject and shoot the photos - without jumping through hoops.
It seems I have to switch to Av from M after shutter release to view subject in LCD, then switch back to M for the next shot, camera fails to shoot and shows error message: “Press start/stop button to activate movie shooting”. This doesn’t make sense as I’m not movie shooting.
If I change the mode to “Flash off” and back to “M” then it appears to work, however once I switch to Av mode to view the subject again, it starts the process all over.
There must be a better/easier way.
Could this be a potential bug in the camera? or am I missing something? I don’t see solutions in manual.
Will mode setting “C” Custom allow “Live viewing” w/ custom “Manual control” to bypass the need to use “M” manual setting that wont allow LCD viewing?

Then switch to M - Manual for manual control and shutter release
Also - I would like to connect to Apple Mac Laptop computer, live view on screen, and if possible have the option to record the photos direct to computer hard disk. Can this be done with this camera? IF so, what is needed?

-Canon 70D have built-in Wifi, so you can connect your camera with your computer wirelessly for tethered shooting. I have PC so the instruction may be different, but you need to install Canon EOS Utility.
-You can do everything in M mode even Live View. I think you are doing something wrong here, you may need to re-read your manual regarding this problem.
-C mode is customized M mode, so you can do everything in C mode also. With C mode, you can save all the setting so you can come back later. It's a great use in your case where you can make your C mode has all the settings for your work, then when you take the camera out to shoot something else, use other mode. Later, when you come back, just switch back to C so you don't have to change anything.

Kind of. You can block the Chat web category and that will block HTTP access to Chat related sites. This will 'help' prevent the downloading of such software, though if the installers are on a site like download.com, the clients will still be able to download it.
Once the software is already on the computer (installed previously, from an alternate download site, installed from a thumb drive, so forth), the chat software will most likely NOT use HTTP for communication with its servers. Which means the chat traffic will bypass the WSA and not be blockable.
The WSA will support these native chat protocols in the future.

Live Camcorder Output To MacBook Air

I have a Sony MC2000e camcorder and a November 2011 MacBook Air.
I would like to livestream the output from the camera, as it is being recorded, into my MacBook Air.
The camera has HDMI, and component output but no firewire.
Can anyone give me some guidance as to what software or hardware I need in order to take the live camera output and stream it online?
If there's a way of completely bypassing the MacBook I would.

If I understand what you want to do, you will need some compatilble HDMI to Thunderbolt connection. Check your Apple retailer or other cable/connector source to be sure of what is compatible.
If you do not already have it, you will also need software to do the streaming. You can use the appropriate Apple's pro-level app for what you want to do or, if you want something a bit simpler to use, some third party software may meet your needs.

Execute WebI Report within Xcelsius - Bypass Authetication of Infoview

Env: BO Enterpise XI3.1 SP3, Xcelsius 2008 and LiveOffice.
I have 2 web intelligence reports say Report1 and Report2.
In Xcelsius, Report1 is embedded using Live Office. The data is displayed in form of a list. When the user selects a record from the list, appropriate parameters are passed on to the 2nd report i.e. Report2 by clicking the URL button. The URL uses the openDocument to execute the Report2.
The problem is when I am trying to click the URL, On clicking the URL, It is displaying the Infoview Login screen and is requesting to enter the login credentials. The URL is as follows:-

I am not sure how to suppress the Infoview login screen. I assume it is looking for a token but am not sure how to generate the token within Xcelsius. One of the blogs did mention a process to bypass the authetication of executing the dashboard by creating a token in jsp and then calling the dashboed swf file. Is there something silimar we can do by creating token within Xcelsius to avoid authetication to Infoview thus running webi report using openDocument from within Xcelsius.

As the second report is to be viewed with the help of OpenDOc URL, so if logon tickets are not passed then the pop-up will be displayed to share the same.

Bypass Proxy for Local Addresses

All-
With the new 2.0 software, I am now able to connect my 3G iPhone to the WiFi network at work. The network uses an authenticated proxy to get external access. I can access external sites just fine now, but I can't see internal sites. The proxy settings on my work desktop give me the option to "bypass proxy server for local addresses".
Is there any way to do this on an iPhone?
Right now I need to make a choice between access only internal sites or only external sites.

After a bit of searching, the best we're going to be able to do right now is use a Proxy Auto-Config (.pac) file. I'm drawn to this conclusion from combining a lot of web searches with a peek at the "iPhone and iPod touch Enterprise Deployment Guide, Second Edition" (available at http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/Enterprise_DeploymentGuide.pdf, or via the Apple iPhone Enterprise support page at http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/enterprise/.
Setting the PAC file using the iPhone v2.x software is pretty direct - click the little arrow next to the network you want to configure, scroll down to the bottom where the proxy settings live. Choose "Auto" and enter the Auto-config URL.
That's the good news. The bad news is that I'm not entirely sure what that entails w.r.t. using one with the iPhone software. I'm not entirely clever enough to create such a file nor am I clever enough to know how to stick such a file onto my iPhone. I'm going to run this around my local team to see what they can come up with. If they come up with a solution (and it's simple enough for me to do AND explain), then I'll post a follow-up. Until then, good luck to you AND if you figure something out feel free to share with everyone else.

Any guitarists using Mainstage/Guitar Amp Pro in live situations??

I'm getting ready to purchase Logic Studio(as soon as my pc sells), and I was wondering if anyone is using Mainstage as a guitar rig for live situations. Is Guitar Amp Pro "tweakable" enough to get good results out of? I'd love to have GuitarRig3, but, that won't be in the budget for a while. Any thoughts?

I've been using it with an acoustic bass. It's a little different from your situation but I can say that it's pretty fun. having all these sounds on command is a blast.
That said using a computer for some effects is one thing, using it to get a nice tube like distorted and/or warm sound is another. Unless you want to spend a few grand on a serious converter and preamp you probably won't be really matching a real analog sound in the real world flesh-space. The converter/interface and how you preamp it into the converter will make a huge difference in the sound. A lot of cheaper effect pedals are already using digital converters (bad ones) so if this is your baseline you could do much better with Mainstage easily. If you are trying to replace an 'all analog guitar straight into a tube amp' kind of sound you probably won't get it.
I've been using NI GuitarRig some, mostly because I had it before. The Mainstage guitar amps seem a little simple tweeking-wise, but that's just a brief impression on my part.
I use the laptop on an effects loop as an effects processor, and not to achieve my basic sound. The hardware you use around Mainstage can limit the quality of your final sound, so if you are on a budget don't expect to get the ultimate guitar sound by plugging straight into the laptop, or even by using one of the cheaper consumer interfaces.
I've been using an RME expresscard interface - which seems to degrade the sound a little- and I'm trying to replace that and the preamp with a Duet, mostly for size/weight considerations (you just cannot get these types of things for backline, so I gotta bring it with me).
Jump in and start working it out, have as much fun as you can. Maybe use it with your guitar amp as an effects unit. If you run it through the house and monitors at a venue you will get wildly varying results. If it's a critical mission have a way to bypass the computer or have a backup rig/sound handy... It's still a computer and they do weird things. Don't be browsing around the interwebs for pr0n or anything like that on the computer you expect to work for your live rig. Turn off as much network activity as you can. Turn off background apps. Keep the amount of audio and midi programs you install to a minimum. Keep backups. Go nuts.

Bypassing any UAD plugin results in annoying delay

I have an easily reproducible situation here: the "Release DSP Resources on AudioUnit Bypass" feature does not seem to be working with Logic 7.2.3. In my test project, any UA plugin I add and then try to bypass brings the usage meter to zero. Additionally, this introduces annoying delays in playback for a few moments. The "Live Mode" setting does not seem to make a difference, and this happens with all UA plugins.
Any other UAD-1 users out there seeing this? I've tried just about everything I can think of: changed buffer sizes, tried different settings for Process Buffer Range, tried playback pre-roll. I'm out of ideas.
BTW, the workaround is to load the panel for the plugin and use it's power or "in/out" switch to turn it off. That seems to work fine during playback but is rather inconvenient.

This is much more than a second. If I have an insert plugin on the snare track and bypass it, it's clearly way behind the overhead tracks for several seconds. It even does this when I re-enable the plugin.
Believe me, I adore the UAD plugins and I wouldn't think of trading them for anything, but I'd still like to know what causes this because it doesn't happen in Cubase 4. Logic doesn't seem to be respecting that checkbox I mentioned in the UAD software, so the problem might be on their end, but regardless - it should not be happening.
