LiveCycle Barcodes dont work in Form Server

Hi,
I've run into a strange problem. I designed a form using LC designer and added barcodes to it. The form is a multipage form and contains substantial amount of data. Since all this data cannot fit into one form, one the click of the submit button, the script reads all this data and breaks into smaller chunks which are then rendered as barcodes. In the PDF form this script does the job of generating barcodes on the click of the button. The same function is also called on the form load event to render the data incase the form is already populated (when viewed later).
However, when I deploy this form on Adobe form server, the bar codes are not generated properly. The PDF shows around 20 such barcodes, but when I run it through decoder, I only get one or two barcode tags which do not contain any data. Further, any app.alert() tags put in XDP can not make it the PDF generated by Form Server. The log from JBoss reports "app is undefined".
When I take the same XML file and specify it as the default XML file for the XDP template under properties and the test the form in Live Cycle designer, the form is rendered perfectly with all javascript alerts and barcodes with full XML data.
I'm totally stumped on this one. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

How do I differentiate between a static PDF and PDF form? Is there any option in AFS or XDP? There are actually two versions of the form from users perspective. One is used for offline submission where users can fill up the form offiline in Acrobat Reader and click on the submit button to submit it. This version is working fine with all barcodes being generated properly. The other version is where users fill up online JSP and gets to view a final Read only PDF. This version also uses the same XDP. The servlet calls the EJB method passing in XML and XDP name. However, in this case, barcodes are not being generated properly.
I think you got my comment wrong for the XML. What I mean was that in my project, the previous architect had already designed some forms that way - with XML encoded in barcodes instead of delimited values. Since the design cannot be changed now, I had to carry his legacy of bad design in whatever new forms that I create as I cannot change the rest of the application.
I do agree and understand that delimited values are far more effective and efficient.
I'll post some debug messages in my next post when I return to my office tomorrow.

Form Server Connection to Oracle 8i Lite

I developed a web based application using form server and oracle 8i. In disconnected mode, I want to run same app on my laptop using form server and oracle 8i lite. But i m unable to connect to oracle 8i lite through form server. In normal mode, i m using microsoft odbc for connection with oracle lite, but it doesn't work with form server.
Can any one help me, what should I do to make connection to 8i Lite from Form server ?

When using Oracle 8i Lite (4.0.x.x.x) with JDeveloper,
you have to:
1) If under JDK 1.1,
1a) make sure that your %ORACLE_HOME%\bin directory is in your
path.
1b) Add OLITE40.JAR and OLJDK11.JAR to the IDEClassPath in
JDEVELOPER.INI (remember, ya gotta have
the stuff in your classpath for it to work!)
2) If under JDK 1.2
2a) Add your %ORACLE_HOME%\BIN directory to the JLP and SLP
sections under [Ferrari]
2b) Add OLITE40.JAR to the IDEClasspath.
The reason for 2a is that under JDK 1.2, the call
"System.loadlibrary(xxx)" does not use the path to look for the
DLL. Only the system property "java.library.path" and
"sun.boot.library.path" Each of these two settings must
be set for it to work.

How do i purchase access to LiveCycle Barcoded Forms?

I am currently creating a form in Adobe Livecycle ES2. I want to put a PDF417 2D barcode on the form containing the data of the fields in the form. The customer should be able to use Adobe reader to fill out the form and the barcode should update with the field information. However to do this i need to purchase a license for LiveCycle Barcoded Forms. In order to get this license it seems that I need to purchase Livecycle reader Extensions ES2. However the product is not available online and when contacting Adobe no one knows how I can purchase this product. I have been in contact with: Adobe customer service Denmark, Adobe support Denmark, Adobe sales Denmark, Adobe customer service Sweden, Adobe Support Sweden, Adobe Sales UK, Adobe support UK, Dustin Denmark (Adobe reseller).
Does anyone know how to purchase this product or how much it costs to purchase?
An additional question i have is if there is a product that works in a similar way for Adobe Acrobat X Pro? Or do i also need Livecycle reader Extensions ES2 to unlock user rights for barcoded forms made with Acrobat X Pro?

Adobe LiveCycle Barcoded Forms Differences

I am aware there are two offerings of Adobe LiveCycle Barcoded Forms: Adobe LiveCycle Barcoded Forms, and Adobe LiveCycle Barcoded Forms "ST". Does anyone know where I can find a list of differences between the two products? Thank you in advance.

The "ST" version is a stand-alone offering that simply works as a Windows service watching folders for incoming files and decoding them.
The "non-ST" version is integrated with the LiveCycle ES product so that more complex operations can be performed that include other LiveCycle functions.

A few questions on capabilities of Livecycle barcoded forms

I'm looking at options for automating an existing paper-based form, and have a couple of questions on the capabilities of Adobe barcoded forms:
- Complex validation: There is a section of the form which requires entry of an address history for the last 5 years. The addresses entered must be validated to ensure that there are no gaps or overlaps in the time periods for each address. Is this level of validation possible?
- Some of the information on the form needs to be pre-populated from information available in a database(e.g. for renewal applications). Is it possible to generate part-populated forms on the fly, and send these to users to complete the remainder? (rather than requiring the user to enter all fields)

I believe you're looking at the wrong product, LiveCycle Barcoded Forms is a decoder for decoding information from the paper forms barcode object if it's place on the form.
- Complex Validation: If I understand correctly you want to check the set of entered addresses to make sure that there is no gap in the time line. If so, then yes, this can be done iwth a validation script on the form.
- Form Prepopulation: Yes, this is typically done using LiveCycle Forms (previously known as Form Server).

Forms server +patch5 works but ias 1022 +patch5 not?!?!?

We're porting an existing application to the web and we're having troubles with this configuration:
Windows 2000 sp1
iAS 1022 + forms patch 5 installed in 806 home.
We're having a lot of problems in connecting the application to a DB version 7.3.4.3:
errors like ora-00022 invalid session id,
frm-40655: SQL error forced rollback.
The strange thing is that with this configuration all works fine:
Windows 2000 sp1
apache + forms server + patch 5 installed
same 7.3.4.3 db.
I've noticed that forms server p5 has a lover net8 version than ias p5 could be this the problem?? if so how can i get it to work with ias??
Please help me, I really need to get this to work.Thank's in advance

Well, version 6 of Designer, Forms, Reports, etc, are not supported for use on Win7 and further, were desupported several years ago. If you really want to use this obsolete version on Win7, rather than hacking a solution, I would recommend using WinXP Mode or other virtualization option.

How do I acquire LiveCycle Barcoded Forms Decoder?

I have seen in various areas of the Adobe website that this is available for purchase as a seperate Enterprise product, but cannot see how to do this. Even downloading a trial at this stage would be very useful to make progress on a project.

Adobe® LiveCycle® Reader® Extensions ES2 now includes the Barcoded Forms right and you are licensed to install and use the decoder service is part of that purchase. When you install LiveCycle just be sure to select the Barcoded Forms piece which will include the decoder service.

Acrobat XI is not distributed with Designer. Designer is now a separate product. You can create forms in Acrobat as an AcroForm or using Forms Central (an online forms program). You can print the form to a new PDF and then recreate the fields in Acrobat using the recognize form fields. You will likely have to fix the form fields, but that would be the process. Generally, once a form is taken to Designer, you can't bring it back without such steps.
Designer is available with AA8 - AAX, but since is a separate product as I indicated.

Barcode Carriage Return Function not working in Forms 6i

Dear All,
I m using Oracle Forms 6i with OS Windows 2000 Professional
When I receiving Data from Barcode slot reader RS232 interface, carriage Return funtion not working in the forms 6i for e.g Barcode is *12345$M*
('$M' for carriage return). Full ASCII code enabled in my slot reader and carriage return switch is also on, its working fine on note pad.
Please help me in this regard

Thanks for your reply, but unfortunately, this would not work.
Indeed, when I scan a barcode, the cursor is already in the text field and no event is triggered.
This idea is not to replace the Carriage Return but to have a When-Validate-Item with the Carriage Return sent by the barcode reader.
In Forms, when I scan in a multi-lines text field, the string is displayed and the cursor goes to the next line
But when I scan in a single line text item, it displays the strings but nothing else.

How Cartridge works in OAS/form server

Hi, guys:
I am deploying forms to the web.
Since the base HTML file for cartridge implementation is the
same as that for non-cartridge implementation, I really can not
figure out how the OAS/form server knows if using Cartridge or
non-cartridge implementation. (ie: Do I need call the
Cartridge in my base HTML?)

How to issue print command from report/form server to client printer on web

1) We have a client server application which is to be deployed on the web environment. The reports generated in our application are having a destination type as File. These reports are printed after applying some print format (escape sequences) which are passed on to the printer programmatically at runtime while printing.
Now when this application is shifted on to the Application server (Forms server & Reports Server )in web environment ,the report outputs would be generated in the application server as against the client in client server environment as the report server is on the application server.
Now while printing/accessing the report the output file will not be available to the client unless it is pushed on to the client side from the server . I am able to see reports in pdf/html output but in this case layout of my reports gets changed and I dont want to change my layouts or reformat my report layouts.
How do I redirect the report output from the application server on to the client within the D2k context and then execute print commands?
Note: In this case we want to use both DMT and Laser printing. Also note that we use escape sequences to adjust reports in desired printing papers.
2) We have second set of reports which we call as document because these are printed after capturing data from 'Form' using text_io utility (please note that for these documents we are not using any Report 6i functionality)and we print it from file using printing mechanism as mentioned above. These are working well in client server application. We adopted this methodology for getting better performance (in terms of speed as database server and network traffic is not involved) of printing. But now we are converting our application for web, we are finding it difficult how to capture Form's data from browser to client's machine and then executing printing commands which are stored in our application liabrary.
If you help me out by giving some suggestions, I shall be grateful to you.

I wonder if you ever solved this problem.
I have a very similar problem with Photoshop CS5 on Mac OSX 10.6 + HP Photosmart C7180.
If I choose "Photoshop Manages Colors" the results are lousy.
If I choose "Printer Manages Colors" the results are OK. not necessarily great.
I believe I have all the correct settings after going through books and web advice (and wasted a lot of paper and ink).
As far as I can see, "ColorSync" is the internal Mac management which is the only option available with "Photoshop Manages Colors" and "Vendor Matching" appears to mean the printer vendor (ie HP) will provide the matching. Either can be selected if "Printer Manages Colors" is used. It seems the type of paper can be set in three different places. if That's all a bit academic as the results are poor regardless.
My wife suggests I buy a new printer - Epson's looking good.
Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Forms Server 6.0 and white Form

I tried to run an very simple form (scott/tiger emp table...) on
a forms server 6.0 in the applet viewer and in the Jinitiator
environment.
The result is a white form with only a menu item (window) and
nothing more.
I tried with WebDb, IIS4 and OAS 4.07 on WNT 4.0 SP3 and SP4
systems but the result is allways the same.
Any ides, suggestion

i have a unique problem when i install form server and run
web forms with jdk supplied with the dev 6.0 it runs for the
first time that for does not have an image in it. but when i try
to load a form with image in it. it shows a white form and when i
retry to load the prevuios form with out image i also show the
same white form now. or if i install jinitiator then the jdk
stop working and even if i deinstall the jinitiator and remove
all the entires form jinitiator the problem remains the same. tha
same white form.
any ideas pls i know i wont get an answer form Oracle Development
team. so any one else around can who can help.

What do you mean by dynamically? When yo set up a 2D bar code field you specify which field name/value pairs you want to include, along with other parameters. But be aware that they won't work with Reader unless you Reader-enable the document with LiveCycle Reader Extensions and include the bar code usage right. It will work with Acrobat Standard/Pro.
