Livecycle forms irratic when trying to email

All I need to do is the following.
Create a form in Livecycle. Link to it via a weblink and the user opens it fills it out, saves it on their machine and then return it as an attachment.
I do not want a Submit button, as we use Lotus Notes 6.5 (due to upgrade to 8 soon!) and it is irratic with Notes 6.5, as it either crashes out saying it cannot find an email client when the submit buttin is pressed, or nothing happens at all.
If I just save the Form as a PDF, and I send it to a user to test ( I cannot test it as I have Acrobat 9 Pro and it works differently) when they fill out the form they get a message that they do not have permissions to save the file....not good.
If I distribute the Form via Livecycle without a submit button using the "Manually collect responses in my email inbox" I click on next and choose "Save a local copy and manually send later"
This works when a user opens it from a web link. However there is now a mysterious Submit Form button in the top right which I either need to be lowered to the bottom right or made invisible somehow. Users are using Acrobat reader 8.
Adobe seem to expect that the creator of the form is going to be the administrator of the form which is not the case mostly. I am creating the forms for other departments who do not have Acrobat Pro so distibuting the form to Connect etc is no good as I do not want to manage these files...just create them.
Can I either remove this button, make it invisibile or move it down at least?
Cheers

Designer Forms and Acrobat Forms are 2 different beasts. Designer is accessed from Acrobat, but is not Acrobat. It is covered in the LiveCycle forum as I mentioned. You may get an answer here, but the answers should be better in the LiveCycle forum.
For some reason Adobe chose to put email submission as a major form of submission within Designer forms (it is available in Acrobat forms also, but with some extra work). It has long been a problem just as it has always been a problem in HTML. In browsers, mailto submissions have always been a problem because there was no standard. That may have changed for browsers over the years since I quite using mailto with forms.
In Acrobat and Reader, up to vers 9, mailto submission required active MAPI on the user machine. That is typically the problem at hand. A lot of folks have never activated MAPI or have purposely shut it off because of typical security concerns with MS products. As a form developer, you have no way to change the performance of a client machine -- thus making mailto useless in some cases (and you to blame in the eyes of the client). AA9 has added another option as I understand it for this interaction, but a lot of folks do not use AA9 or AR9. Thus you still have to deal with the problem. Even with AA9, I am not sure the solution is full proof.
What does work and is more reliable is submission to a web script with either FDF or XML data files. The scripting method is preferred in all cases, though you then get into having script development. This can be easied by using the FDF toolkit, but you still will need some expertise at programming and scripting I think.
An alternative is to submit data as HTML data to a CGI-mail or formmail script as provided by many ISPs.
If you are distributing the form on the web, then your use base is probably greater than 500 and you do not want to activate Reader Rights (a license issue). Thus you do want to submit data and not the entire form. Actually, submission of the entire form is never needed since you can import the data into the form on your end and get the same results.
Lastly, you probably want to maintain compatibility with prior versions of Acrobat and Reader (I typically go back to AA5). This means being careful about using new features that the older versions crash on. Why is this important? Many folks are still running older versions, some even bring up AA4 periodically. I have installations of 5, 6, 7, and 8 versions of Acrobat, all on different machines. I can't afford and have not found the need to upgrade all the versions. If I specifically need AA8 I will go to that machine and cuss out the developer. One place I have needed AA8 is with portfolios that are distributed for some proposal packages from the feds. A few forms and some PDFs require a newer version also, and in many cases I never bother going to the AA8 machine to open the form (probably not what the developer would have wanted).
As to your required fields, this is typically the case with forms. You can highlight the field with an asterix as is done on many web sites or you can write a short JavaScript to check the field after the mouse-over. For the JavaScript you should visit the scripting forum for assistance. As for the e-mail, I have already answered that (by the way, it is a problem on MACs also, but not sure of the mechanism there. I have no clue about the issues in UNIX). For reliability, forms should be submitted to a web script. A lot of the features you mention are particular to the automatic setup of Desginer and are not as prevalent in Acrobat forms due to the lack of this automation taking you down somebodies idea of a rosy path. Some one at Adobe has been pushing the e-mail of forms in AA8 and AA9, and I have no idea of why. True, writing scripts for a web submission is a bit beyond many folks, but if you can create a form, a script is not that far beyond.

    Chris CA,  62,910 points.  Dang...that's a lot of support.  Before I start, let me say Thank You!  You need to answer a lot of people's questions to achieve that.
    1)  You slightly misunderstood my letter through no fault of your own.  It was a generic compilation of information submitted by members of this discussion turned into a letter by me for use on the Apple Feedback site.  I myself did not receive an e-mail.  I actually was prevented from purchasing any more iTunes gift cards at a certain point and was given a cryptic response from the iTunes store that my request could not be processed.  It was only after investigation on my part that I found out the reason was the $100 max per 30 day rule.  I'd try to find where in the Apple's support site I did find that information...but, well, you are just going to have to trust me.  However, others in this discussion stated they received the information in an e-mail.  I used that fact in my letter as it seemed to create a less "cumbersome" feedback submission.
    2)  "Why look for iOS apps?"  That's a good very good question!  I miswrote.  I should have said "OS X apps."  That is where iTunes is located on the Feedback Site.  Good catch.  As you know (62,910 points is a lot of "knowing"), when you submit feedback you must click on the item of which you are going to write.  I must be so ramped up for the impending release of the new iPhone that I had iOS on the brain.  My bad. :-)
    3)  In all the time this discussion has been alive (over a year), and in all my googling, I never read about an option to contact iTunes support and ask them to remove this limit from my account.  It is too bad you didn't come to this discussion when it started in May of 2011 to offer that piece of advice!  Surprisingly, that information wasn't anywhere on the Apple site where I read about the $100/30 day limit.  Maybe it is there now.  But, it sure wasn't there when I read it.  It would have been very helpful.
    4)  You say "(which they can do and often have done for many people here)."  I am curious, what do you mean by "here."  Not "here" as in "here in THIS discussion forum."  Right?  I don't see anyone in this discussion aware of that information and posting it for others to read.  By "here" I assume you mean the ENTIRE Apple Support Community.  Unfortunately, until you arrived on the scene, none of those from that gigantic "here" came across THIS discussion to share their good fortune and knowledge about removing the $100 limit on iTunes gift card purchases per 30 days.
    Well, I think that wraps it up for another day.  I am off to iTunes support to get this limit removed from my account.
    Adios amigos!
    Mr. Luigi

  • Why will Adobe not accept my Verification Code when trying to email pictures?

    Why will Adobe not accept my Verification Code when trying to email pictures as it is the code they sent me?
    Message was edited by: MrsChar

    Hi,
    It might help if you could tell us your version of PSE and your operating system.
    In between requesting the verification code and trying to apply it, you didn't change any of the settings in Edit -> Preferences -> Sharing did you?
    Did you use Copy & Paste to copy the verification code from the email to PSE?
    On the page that is asking for the code, you can always click on the resend button and it will send you the code again - worth a try.

  • Keeping PDF form format when sending via email

    Hello, I have created a form using Adobe LiveCycle.  It contains a submit button to send the filled out form to a recipient via email.  After numerous draft attempts the form gets converted into an .XML format when it is attached to a new email message.  I want the form to stay as a PDF but LiveCycle indicates the form would need to be sent to an HTTP address.  I don't have such an address.
    Is there some way to force the form to keep its PDF format and be sent via email by the push of a button?
    (I know that you can click File--attach to Email to but I would like to avoid that method).  Thank you.

    Q: Is there some way to force the form to keep its PDF format and be sent via email by the push of a button?
    A #1: Yes, you can use the standard button, set the format to "PDF" and supply the mailto:[email protected] and it will use the client side email software to attach and send the PDF. Note: You will need to enable usage rights on the PDF to allow Adobe Reader users to submit whole PDF format. Normally Adobe Reader users are only allowed to submit the data formats, XML and XDP for LiveCycle forms, and HTML, XFDF and FDF for Acroforms.
    A #2: You can also bypass client-side email software such as OUTLOOK, if you set the submit button action to a URL of a server-side script, such as PHP or ASP.Net. The script could generate an SMTP message, and attach the submission without the use of client-side email software. By using a server-side script, the PDF submission process is almost fool proof.

  • Applicaiton form hangs when trying to make C# form visible from menu event

    I have a MDI windows app, running as an addon on Verion 2007A
    The applicaion is written in C# ( VS 2005)
    I am a newbee to C# ( VS too ) as well.
    All I want is to display the MDI container form when a menu is clicked. But the windows form hangs forever, and does not show.
    if I try to show the form within Main method then no issues! The problem happens only off the SBO menu event .
    I cannot have the form loaded all the time. so I need the services of the SBO menu click, so a user can open it whenever he wants.
    Note: I can open any other form off the menu click, but that , provided they are not MDI containers and they are opened with ShowDialog(); If I use Show(); then again hangs.
    I tried opening the MDI form in Main method, ( wich of course works) and hide it when not needed. I could hide the form, but when I issued a command myForm.visible = true;  through the SBO menu event, again hangs!
    my applicaion Main function is as follows. The class AA_SBO_MAIN  holds the SBO application events.
    static void Main()
                Application.EnableVisualStyles();
                Application.SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault(false);
                Classes.AA_SBO_MAIN oSBOMain = null;
                oSBOMain = new Classes.AA_SBO_MAIN();
                 Application.Run();
    the menu event simply does
                  frmMain fm = new frmMain();
                  fm.Visible = true;

    Hi
    I try doing these few steps and it seems to work!  The code is in Visual Basic though!
    Declare the form variable
    Private mMDI As New frmMDI
    In your menu click event enter a code like this
    If mMDI Is Nothing Then mMDI = New frmMDI
    mMDI.Visible = True
    On your startup function do something like this
    Public Sub New()
           mMDI.Show() : mMDI.Visible = False
    End Sub
    And more important ... in the form class comment all the code inside the Dispose method
    and finally do the following
    Private Sub frmMDI_Closed(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Closed
            Me.Hide()
    End Sub
    it seems to work for me . Hope it helps you too!

  • Forms crash when trying to view a .bmp.

    I have 2 .bmp file uploaded to our database as a blob
    looking at the 2 files they are identical size, pixel, dpi etc.
    Yet in my system when trying to view the image through forms it one crashes the system and the other displays fine.
    I know it will relate to the image itself as if i resave as a .jpg it works fine.
    But i wondered if there was anyway to work out which aspect of the bmp it was failing on.
    I have tried this in XP, Vista, Win 7. various IE versions all resulting in same behaviour.
    I also tried an old legacy forms system we had running forms 9i on oracle 9i database and the column LONG RAW and this exhibits the same behaviour. i.e. displays one but crashes on other.
    So i know its not a user OS issue nor a Oracle version issue. But we run 10.1.2.3 app server and 10.2.0.5.0 database for record.
    I downloaded G.I.M.P image manipulater and no properties on the 2 .bmps are different.
    Thanks.

    Yes this will work but my customer wants an explanation as to why some will work and some will not. They have thousands of bmps they dont want to amend all another format.
    I can not find any oracle documentation re the correct bmp format that is supported.

    in the iPhoto preferences ==> accounts delete your e-mail account and reenter it

    IMHO the better solution is to set Apple mail as the email client in the iPhoto preferences

  • Forms Hang when trying to open

    We are using Oracle 10.1, on 32 bit Windows XP SP2, IE 6, jre 1.6 on the client side. The end users at time uses multiple forms and also uses Oracle Discoverer 10 at the same time. Print out reports uses Adobe Reader 9.1(which is another story), with java 1.6.7
    We have team of developers that created the forms and application in oracle. I deal with the end users.
    Issues we have been getting are:
    1. Users attempt to open a form and the "hour glass" appears and then hangs. We close the application by closing the IE window.
    2. As time goes on we have been seeing more and more users with this issue. Those that use the application more heavily seem to be having more issues
    3. I called the development team and they have stated that they do not see anything in the database of their logs to indicate that something is wrong.
    What was done to remedy issue:
    1. Cleared IE temp files, cookies, history
    2. Cleared Java temp files - this seems to work for a while
    3. Uninstalled users profile and re-install - it helps for a bit and then the issues comes back
    4. Re-created a new PC from scratch
    On the client computer we do not see any error messages. The system just hangs. It is happening on a daily basis for some users and getting more frequent to others as they use the applications more.
    Does anyone else have this issues? The developer team said that it was a setting on the client side. I have been searching for a while, but have not come up with anything. Can someone assist? Thank you in advance for any assistance.

  • Server does not recognize my username/password when trying to email photos

    I am trying to mail photo's from my Iphoto's through my email account.  However each time I try to send the pics I get a message that the server does not recognize my username/password.  I have a password for my Bell sympatico account which is the account I am trying to use, but when I enter that password I get the does not recognize message.  I then tried to use my Apple password and again same message.
    Thank you to anyone who can help me
    Maureen

    Hi Bob,
    The following is exactly what I do,  I go to IPHOTO and click on the photo I want to send, then I go to the Share menu and insert the email address where I want it sent.  In that message it shows my other account which is my email address that I use all the time for all my correspondance.  So I have that as the address I am sending from
    Then I hit send and a text box comes up saying there is some text related to the photo looks like you could put a description here so I just hit Send anyway.  Then I hit the send key and that is when the message box pops up with my complete email address with ;smtp.me.com" at the end . None of those letters or characters are in my email address.  Any help you can offer I am greatly appreciative!
    Cheers

  • Adobe Error Message when trying to email

    I am working in Adobe Livecycle 8.0 and I am getting the following error message:
    Acrobat does not allow connection to: mailto:
    This was never an issue in the past. I intentionally left the mailto blank so that an individual that completed the form could email it as a PDF to the person of their choice. Is there a workaround for this? If not, does anyone know how to populate the mailto: with an email address from an email field in the form?
    Thanks
    Jen

    Hi Jen,
    You've reached the Adobe AIR forums, would you mind reposting your question over on one of the Livecycle forums?  You'll probably have better luck over there.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • "recipient's address is invalid" when trying to email when on 3G

    I currently cannot connect to my employer's wi-fi so I rely on 3G when at work. I have noticed that I cannot send emails when using 3G. I constantly get a message saying that the recipient's address is invalid, and that for every single email I try to send, even when I reply to an incoming email or take an address from my address book which I know works.
    This doesn't happen when I switch to 3G. Am I doing something wrong?
    Thank you

    So I'm a fool, because I didn't realize it was shortname@server name. So that's taken care of. However, do I use the domain name set up in the DNS service or do I use the server's name? i.e. [email protected] or [email protected]?
    When I try the former, it tells me either my login ID or password is incorrect. When I try the latter, it says I can't communicate with the Jabber account, and iChat is "disconnected unexpectedly".

    Does the account you are using have admin rights? I found this :
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2397
    +In Mac OS X 10.3 Panther and later, users with administrative privileges aren't prompted to change the region the very first time a DVD-Video disc of a single region is inserted. Instead, the region of the DVD drive is automatically set to the region of the DVD disc that was inserted. Accounts that don't have administrative privileges must authenticate with an administrator account name and password, because changing the drive's region code requires administrative privileges.+
    Sounds like it might be worth a try from an admin account first.
