Livecycle on Windows 7

Sorry for the non-techie question on a techie bulletin board...
I've been doing a lot of development using Livecycle Designer ES 8.   Works great (okay, some crashes - but we understand each other by now...)   I don't need anything other than Designer.
For other reasons I'm moving to Windows 7.    My copy of Livecycle is version 8 - from an Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional disc I bought a year ago.
a) I can't figure out (remember ?) how to update this to (1) ES 8.2; and (2) update it at all.   The ES Service Pack 2 won't work on my version.
b) For version 8 - when windows sleeps and then comes back, Livecycle always dies.   (Yes, I've applied the SQL/Server update.)

Re-create the Adobe application preference file or folde to eliminate problems that a damaged preferences can cause.

Yes, it is possible to install LiveCycle on Windows but targetting Linux.

Adobe Acrobat Pro and Livecycle

Hello,
just recentlty purchased my Adobe Acrobat Pro to edit (especially my interactive calculations), which I created in LIvecycle on Windows.
Unfortunately, I always just got the error message "This form cannot be edited in Acrobat. Please use Adobe LiveCycle Designer to edit this form."
Unfortunately I am not using Windows any more, so was wondering, if there is any other way to edit my documents ?

No. You can only edit LC forms in LiveCycle, and it is not available on a
Mac. Also, even on Windows it's no longer bundled with Acrobat. You have to
purchase it separately (or request a download link if you had a previous
license).
I would suggest converting your files to "standard" Acrobat forms, if
possible.

Adobe on Mac want to use livecycle.

I run adobe on an Imac. I have a windows 7 machine and want to run Livecycle. Am I going about things in the right way in that I purchase Livecycle for windows, create forms on the windows 7 Machine. Or is it the case that I will need to purchase adobe all over again for Windows so Livecycle will run with Acobat? In short can I get access to the form filling solutions in Livecycle on a windows platform and continue to run my Abobe suite on my Imac?

OK I do have 14 Billion to spare but I only wanted to buy adobe for Windows so I assume it would be discounted as Mac Platform would not need to be purchased. Having said that I appears to me that I cannot run Livecycle on Mac OS, therefore I need to acquire Acrobat at a minimum (for windows) and Livecycle (for windows) with it. Adobe customer support is not great hence the value of the forum. All I am trying to do is power up the form design function in acobat. The Acobat 9 form design is a bit limited. Livecycle will give me the tools I need but i will have to do it all on my windows machine. Is my thinking correct?

Why do I keep getting a connection error when trying to connect to SQL?

Environment:
LiveCycle ES2
Windows Server 2008
JBOSS
Oracle Application DB
When trying to connect to SQL, I get this error message in the log.
Exception: Could not create connection; - nested throwable: (java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.6 is not supported by this driver. Use the sqljdbc4.jar class library, which provides support for JDBC 4.0.); - nested throwable: (org.jboss.resource.JBossResourceException: Could not create connection; - nested throwable: (java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.6 is not supported by this driver. I have these two files located in \\jboss\server\lc_oracle_cl\lib
sqljdbc.jar
sqljdbc4.jar
I was told all I needed to do was drop these two files in the directory above and restart JBOSS. Is there something I'm missing?

Hi Jesse,
The driver you are using is for SQLServer Database. Since you are using Oracle as your database, you need an oracle driver.Please copy ojdbc6.jar from the [installDir]/lib/db/oracle/ directory and try again.

I am creating a pdf form in acrobat 9 pro, I would like to add a button so the user can insert an image from their machine. I have been give a pdf where this is possible. How can I create an insert image field in my form?

How do you justify text in Textfield?

I have a PDF I created from a scan with textfield boxes on it. I've tried selecting the textfield and clicking the layout tab, but it won't let me change the justification of the text in the textfields from middle left to top left. How do I do this?

On the right side of the LiveCycle Desinger window, there are three bars labeled "How To", "Paragraph & Text", and "Ojects". Try the "Paragraph & Text".

How do I create a form in CS6 for Mac similar to a LiveCycle Designer form for Windows?

I have been creating quite a few forms in LiveCycle Designer at work (on Windows 7). I do a lot of scripting (99% JavaScript) in the background in order to make the form function as I need it to. I purchased CS6 for my Mac at home, and have a side project where I need to create a form with a lot of the bells and whistles that my work-related forms have. Since I can't use my work laptop for personal gain, I was wondering if anyone can help get me started with how to create a "LiveCycle Designer"-like form using CS6 (LiveCycle Designer is not offered for a Mac).

Problem of using LiveCycle ES (8.0) Rights Mangement on Traditoinal Chinese Windows Enterprise Serv

Recently I had to set up a LiveCycle ES 8.0 on Tradiitonal Chinese (zhTW) Windows Enterprise Server 2003. Using turnkey & express configuration, installation was actually a breeze.
However, after installation, I discovered that Rights Mangement ES was not functioning at all. I recalled from another installation that a global policy set would be created upon installation. This global policy set was just not there to start with. To make the matter worse, no policy could be created. Everytime such attempt was made, "An internal server error has occurred; please contact your Administrator." had always been the failure message. A look at JBoss server.log states:

Not only that I was unable to create policies at all, the configuration items under Rights Management just does not work. For every configuration that I tried to make change, I would always, upon saving configuration, see "A server error has occurred; please contact your Administrator." error message.
Installing and use of LiveCycle ES 8.0 on English version of Windows Server 2003, Windows XP SP2, or SuSe Linux 10 did not produce the errors mentioned above.
I just wonder if Adobe LiveCycle ES 8 is currently supported on non-English OS? If it's indeed supported, what measures do I have to take to remedy the problems pertaining to Rights Management?

Hi Paul,
Unfortunate this will not work. Traditional Chinese is not a supported operating system for the server. We support English, French, German and Japanese. In saying that most things do work but we know that Rights management is more challenged then other products in this way. If this is a production system and you want support you have to goto a supported language on your OS. If this is more for development and evaluation you can try a couple things. One thing would be to change your local and regional settings to English.
In our testing we actually did not try Traditional Chinese, we tried Simplified Chinese, basically we were hoping it would just work, but we saw multiple errors in the AdminUI and the effort in fixing it did not fit in the schedule.
I apologise about the lack of support for you OS/Language combination.

How to populate Adobe LiveCycle Designer generated PDF Forms with data from Database in Windows app

I have a PDF template designed in Adobe LiveCycle Designer. This template has form fields which needs to be filled with data programmatically. I am using windows application in C#.Net 2005 in which I want to retrieve data from database and merge this data into PDF form in respective fields.
How this can be achieved?
I searched a lot & I found that we can process the XDP file generated from PDF to acheive this. I created the XDP file out of the PDF template created in designer. But I don't know how to merge data from database into that XDP file in respective fields and again convert this XDP file back to PDF programmatically. Can anybody help me ? This is urgent.

great - another few hundred pounds I'll have to spend..... thanks adobe... more profit for you... but here is another question what about cs4? is that compatible with windows 8 as I have a web standard version, what ever that means but I dont have photoshop for CS4 as I got it for the web desing ...and there no chance of using your cloud thingy 'cos I aint spending $50 a month !!!!
can anyone suggest what I should do - I have my original Photoshop 6, then I purchased CS2, following that I got CS4 Web standard as I was doing a Dreamweaver course and the CS4 came as part of the course but with no photoshop. Now I use adobe bridge and photoshop extensively, these are the 2 I realy want and with Cs2 it worked great as it upgraded Photo 6 to cs2 and I got Bridge NOW I GOT NOTHING !!!! how frustrating

Livecycle generated PDF won't preview in Windows Folder

Hi,
I've noticed that PDFs I've created via livecycle won't auto preview when single clicked in a windows folder. If I take the Livecycle created PDF and print that to a new PDF, then it will preview (See below)
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this could be happening?

Okay, but what Terminal command did you attempt to use before? What happens in the new user account when you try Safari there? Do you have any Input Managers installed? Those are located in /Library/InputManagers and Home/Library/InputManagers; if you don't have either of those folders, then you have no Input Managers.
You can also try quitting Safari and going to Home/Library/Preferences and deleting the com.apple.Safari.plist file, then restarting Safari and resetting all your preferences to see if that resolves the problem. But don't do that until after you've had no luck with the things above.
