Load balancing Client problem

Hi ,
This is my environment two 5508 in HA with release 7.4.121, ap 2600 and  ap 3600, in flex-connect wan up local switching.
I put client windows size field to 1 and maximum denial count to 1. i connect many client and when i sniff autentication response on busy AP (ap with many client connected) i can't receive status code 17 from AP ? why ? how cani verify if i client don't honore status code 17 on association response ?
When i enable debug dot11 load-balancing enable i receive for example this log
*apfMsConnTask_4: Jun 23 16:48:12.798: 00:e3:b2:38:d1:52 Load Balancing mobile 00:e3:b2:38:d1:52 on AP c4:14:3c:ca:f4:a0(0) band 1 has 2 users - Good: rssi (antenna-A -73) (antenna-B -73), snr = 23

but in association response i receive every time status code 0 (success)

who can explain me this problem ? and how can i test this feature better ?

I will try to be clear, How can i verify if my client honore status code 17 on association response ? I try sniffing 802.11 packet but i can't see anything...status code is every time successfull.
My environment is with flexconnect wan up local switching, wlc 5508, ap 3600/2600/1600/1142.

  • ACE load-balancing-Cookie problem

In our other load-balancing environments the load-balancer-cookie contains the encrypted (real) servername or ip-address.
We think it's the same on the cisco, for that reason it's in theory not possible, that there are two 'green'-cookies with different values in the same request.
There are only two possibilities how this could happen:
    a) The healthmonitor (http_probe) fails, the loadbalancer 'thinks' that the realserver is down and redistributes the traffic.
But in that case we would expect, that the old cookie will be overwritten by the new one and not simply added to the http-header.
    b) The predictor in the serverfarm chooses a new realserver within the same request.
If that is really the cause of that problem this would be bug in the cisco ace.
What we found out, is that the loadbalancer performs a 'Set-Cookie'-Operation an every request even if the client submits the cookie correctly.
    For example:
    GET /ips-opdata/scripts/jquery.js HTTP/1.1
    Host: www.xxxxx.com
    User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.15) Gecko/20110303 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.15
    Accept: */*
    Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5
    Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate
    Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7
    Keep-Alive: 115
    Connection: keep-alive
    Referer: http://www.xxxxx.com/
    Cookie: green=R339366665; JSESSIONID=28D91FC6FD62A3921354BB36826294C4
    HTTP/1.1 200 OK
    Set-Cookie: green=R339366665; path=/; expires=Tue, 29-Mar-2011 06:33:00 GMT
    Server: Apache-Coyote/1.1
    X-Powered-By: Servlet 2.4; JBoss-4.2.2.GA (build: SVNTag=JBoss_4_2_2_GA date=200710221139)/Tomcat-5.5

As you can see the cookies: green=R339366665 is transmitted from the client, but the loadbalancer does a Set-Cookie Operation of the same cookie once again. This is an unexpected behaviour.
We hope that this helps you to figure out the reason of the problem.

The cookie is sent by the ACE on each response to refresh the timeout value on the client. The value of the cookie doesn't change. This is the expected behaviour and shouldn't break anything in the application / browser.
For browser-based applications, don't forget to add the "browser-expire" parameter to your cookie-based stickyness config.

  • MPLS TE load-balancing --- CEF Problem

    Dears
Would like your assistance please regarding below issue
We are having 5 TE tunnels going to same destination and we are doing load-balancing between these 5 LSPs TE tunnels.
Command "mls ip cef load-sharing full simple" is configured so that CEF will use L4 ports in its algorithm
Problem that due to CEF behavior, 2 link are v.highly utilized and the other 3 utilization are below average
What I am thinking of but not sure If this will help or not is to have 2 TE tunnels instead of 5
1 TE tunnel load balancing on 3 links ( This can be done by using static route to tail loopback poiting to the 3 links) and another TE tunnel load balancing on the other 2 links
By doing this, I think CEF would be used 2 times; first to determine which TE tunnel to use then to determine which link within the tunnel
    Will this help ?
    For example
    interface Tunnel1
    ip unnumbered Loopback0
    mpls ip
    tunnel destination 10.0.0.1
    tunnel mode mpls traffic-eng
    tunnel mpls traffic-eng autoroute announce
    tunnel mpls traffic-eng path-option 1 dynamic
    tunnel mpls traffic-eng fast-reroute
    ip route 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.255 link-1
    ip route 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.255 link-2
    ip route 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.255 link-3

    Hello Sherif,
traffic of a single TE tunnel will not be load balanced over multiple physical links as the TE tunnel is setup using a reservation and the path will use only one link for each router hop.
So moving to two TE tunnels is not an option for you.
    Hope to help

  • Load balancing algorithm problems with servlets

    All,
We have a simple servlet which looks up an RMI object from JNDI and invokes
one of its methods in a loop. The RMI object is the HelloClusterImpl
example provided by WebLogic. The servlet basically copies the code from
the HelloClusterClient. In the cluster property file, our load algorithm is
setup to be round-robin. We are using IIS as our web server. If we start
up both servers in the cluster and then use another machine as our client to
call the HelloClusterClient, we see that the calls to HelloClusterImpl
alternate between the two clustered servers. In fact, it is done perfectly
at 50% for each server. When we run the servlet from with the client's
browser, however, it seems as if which ever server in the cluster that
receives the servlet request then takes 100% of the calls to
HelloClusterImpl and there is never any alternating. Although we can verify
that different servers in the cluster receive the servlet request, it seems
as if there is never any altering between the servers during the method
invocations on the HelloClusterImpl servant. Does this seem right?
Shouldn't there be alternating between the servers? Any help would be
    greatly appreciated.

  • Extend TCP Proxy vs. Client load balancing

I am unclear how proxy and client load balancing interact with respect to custom address providers. If I define my own address provider, and I do NOT set the load-balancer parameter to client in the client configuration, will the proxy still do load balancing of connections as described in http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24290_01/coh.371/e22839/gs_configextend.htm#BEBCICDA ?
    Edited by: user5179040 on Mar 23, 2012 9:43 AM

    Hi,
The <load-balancer> element is only configured in the <proxy-scheme> and not at the client side. This parameter "proxy" dictates the proxy to use the specified strategy for load balancing client connections across proxies. The parameter "client" offloads the responsibility of load balancing to client across proxies or randomly select proxies.

  • Load-balancing in the same IP subnet

Can I use load-balancing in the same IP subnet? I have the servers and client in the same IP subnet. I'd like to load-balance client traffic to server traffic. I also need to load balance traffic between servers. Is possible to configure it only in one VLAN?
    For example:
    CSS:
    interface 4/2

yes, it's possible - use trunk with two VLANs (slide 9). or you can use 'transparent' mode (slide 11 - your attachment).
answer to your question (I have the problem to understand why there are two links with the same VLAN on the picture):
on the switch are two port interfaces in *switchport* mode (not trunk). now is it clearly?
    result:
both methods (bridge mode with two vlans, or transparent bridge mode) use two vlans. it's on you, which type is for you preferred.
my recommendation is - use first method - one link to CSS with trunk configured in bridge mode (one ip subnet, two vlans, default gw for servers isn't css, but parent router)

  • Configuring RFC connections for load balancing.

    Hi ,
We have the following landscape for our systems.
The database is installed on z/os , db2 (mainframe). The central services( SCS and ASCS) are also on the mainframe. So the message server is on mainframe.
The CI is on AIX and The DI is on AIX.
We have Logon groups configured and load balancing Configured and is RFC enabled.
    1) When we connect to SAP using the SAPGUI and  the portal connection is made to either CI or DI depending upon the best response times.  Now recently we are running the mercury load testing, all the users are connecting to DI. Why are the users connecting to DI even though we have load balancing?
    2) I have a system with SID BP0, with one CI and one DI. The logon group is BP0 and the message server name is cyrix. Now I have other another system EP0. I have created a RFC connection from EP0 to BP0. In SM59 I have selected the load balancing option, and provide the message server name, SID and logon group name. The connection does not work. If I connect directly to the CI or DI the connection works. Please tell me how can I configure load balancing for RFC connections.
    Thanks
    Manmath.

    Dear 917996,
There are two types of load balancing:
    - Client-side load balancing (setting up the tnsnames.ora on client side). More information here (http://ggsig.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/client-side-
load-balancing-in-oracle.html). Very good video produced my friend Igor Melnikov is here (http://www.dsvolk.ru/oracle/racdd4d/demos/video/loadbalance/client/clientloadbalance_viewlet_swf.html)
-Server-side load balancing (remote_listener and setting service parameter clb_goal). Very good Igor Melnikov's video is here (http://www.dsvolk.ru/oracle/racdd4d/demos/video/loadbalance/server/serverloadbalance_viewlet_swf.html).
I have read about client side and server side load balancing. By editing tnsnames.ora I have enabled client side load balancing which is suppose to select listeners at random. then why does it only go to second node?Could you please show your tnsnames.ora on client?
Please can anyone help me to configure server side load balancing with SCAN. I have read many many post but couldn't find a clear answer.Based on your output (remote_listener string cmbtrnrac-scan:1521) you have already configured the server side load balancing.
    SQL> show parameter listener
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    listener_networks string
    local_listener string (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(AD
    DRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=10.1
    7.67.214)(PORT=1521))))
remote_listener string cmbtrnrac-scan:1521How many SCANs do you use? Do you use DNS?

  • Windows Event Collector - Built-in options for load balancing and high availability ?

    Hello,
I have a working collector. config is source initiated, and pushed by GPO.
I would like to deploy a second collector for high availability and load balancing. What are the available options ? I have not found any guidance on TechNet articles.
As a low cost option, is it fine to simply start using DNS round-robin with a common alias for both servers pushed as a collector name through GPO ?
In my GPO Policy, if I individually declare both servers, events are forwarded twice, once for each server. Indeed it does cover high availability, but not really optimized.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
    >>As a low cost option, is it fine to simply start using DNS round-robin with a common alias for both servers pushed as a collector name through GPO ?
Based on the description, we can utilize DNS round robin to distribute workloads and increase fault tolerance. By default, DNS uses round robin to rotate the order of RR data returned in query answers where multiple RRs of the same type exist for a queried
DNS domain name. This feature provides a simple method for load balancing client use of Web servers and other frequently queried multihomed computers. Besides, by default, DNS will perform round-robin rotation for all RR types.
Regarding DNS round robin, the following article can be referred to for more information.

check the /etc/services file for a proper port setting for the R/3 message server "sapms<sid>" at 36xx. You can try connecting the SAPgw directly to the dispatcher at port 32xx where XX is the instance number. If that connection is good, then it appears to be a logon load balancing configuration problem which uses the message server.
This is usually because it cannot connect to the message server. Please check the dev_ms for any errors. if it is intermittent it is likely to be a network problem ( see note 500235 Network Diagnosis with NIPING.
    Check following SApnotes :

  • Load Balancing - Wireless

    Hi
If I'm reading correctly Load Balancing is not advisable if using voice of wifi.
    On a conroler with 70.220 - Wireless - Advanced - Load balancing
Load balancing - client windows is default 5, max denial 3
But on the wlan, the load balancing isn't enabled..
Which one is the master setting?
We're boardcasting several SSIDs, one of them is a guest SSID, which is open, so we get the Apple devices autmaticaly associating to them.
So if we dont set the load balancing on each wlan, this means there is a msximum of 5 devices to 1 AP, doesn't matter which wlan it's on?
Is there a best practice guide for load balancing?
    Clarrifaction would be great
    Cheers
    Craig

    Craig,
Do not use load balancing for latency-sensitive WLANs, especially voice WLANs. Rejecting voice clients extends their roaming delay and can drop calls.
The setting on the WLAN Advanced tab determines whether or not clients associating to that WLAN will be denied if the load balancing algorithm determines the AP to which the client wants to associate is too loaded (determined by the global LB settings). If you have the box unchecked, then LB is not in effect for that WLAN and clients on that WLAN will never be rejected.
The load balancing algorithm is run against clients for an AP. The count of clients is cumulative for all WLANs, i.e., the load balancing numbers are not set and comared on a per-WLAN basis. This wouldn't make a lot of sense as the LB algorithm is attempting to keep clients physically spread across infrastructure radio resources, regardless of whether you have 1 WLAN or 5 WLANs active on the radio.
I don't know of a best practices guidefor load balancing other than don't use it on WLANs that have low-latency applications such as voice or live-streaming (unbuffered) video. The controller configuration guide is a good place to start and does a pretty good job of explaining how it works.
One other thing I would recommend is to make the algorithm less aggressive. I think max 3 denials is too high and would drop to 1 or 2. I'd also open up the LB window size to about 8 or 10 instead of the default 5.
I think some folks on the forums here have found some issues with LB, although I haven't run into too many so far. I think the AP sends a message type 17 and some clients have trouble processing it (or something like that). You might want to search the forums here and check the bug toolkit to see if there's anything that comes up.

  • Exchange 2010 ACE30 Load Balancer Configuration

    Afternoon Everybody,
Does anybody have any good documentation, or example configurations on how to load balance client traffic inbound to distrbuted Exchange 2010 Client Access Servers they could share please?
We have a basic configuration in place that is troblesome that is using sticky based persistence for all services, with basic health probes looking at ports 25, 80, 443 and RPC specific ports on 135, 6000, 60001.  We are seeing major packet drops/loss as well as resets of the connections between the health probes and the servers that in turn take the servers out of the farm causing major downtime.

  • Anyconnect client problem, load balancing fqdn changes after update client?

    Hi,
We use two asa's in loadbalancing. Users use the loadbalancing fqdn name to connect. This works fine until we push new client anyconnect software, that the connect to field changes from the fqdn to the appliance ip address where the client downloaded the software. So loadbalancing will not work anymore. Is there a solution for this?
    Thx,
    Marc

    This sounds like CSCsz39019:
    http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/search/getBugDetails.do?method=fetchBugDetails&bugId=CSCsz39019
    Symptom:
Anyconnect client preserves the FQDN name of the ASA its connecting to instead
    of load-balancing cluster FQDN.
    Workaround:
When the cluster member appears in the host list, user can select the correct
host by clicking the drop down. The next time user starts the client, the
cluster member will no longer be visible. It will have been replaced with the cluster name last selected.
This should be fixed in 2.3(2028)
2.4(192) and 2.5(53) or any higher release. Keep an eye out for the next release with this fix.

  • Load Balancing, Server and / or Client ?

    Hi
I am experiencing a problem with the connection pooling in odp.net. I have a simple test app that creates a connection, executes a query, populates an object then closes the connection. I have found that when I have client side load balancing on via the odp.net connection string property many connections are made unnecessary (sometime the actual number created reaches the max pool size but the numbers differ randomly). It appears that rather than a free connection in the pool being used more connections are being created which defeats the point of having a connection pool. I do have server side load balancing configured correctly also. Due to this finding can someone possibly answer the following questions.
    a) Do I need both server side and client side load balancing set?
    b) If I do why is the above behaviour being seen? If not could you give me a short explanation as to why not?
Current set up is 11g (patched to 6, awaiting 7 to be applied) RAC, 2 nodes.

Here are the HTTP Headers as monitored on the client side. Notice the good.txt file includes a GET as it's initial request. All works fine in this case. However, the initial request in the bad.txt is a POST. This is odd since the URL was opened using the same shortcut in both incidents and the browser was closed between each trace that was taken. I've also reviewed the shortcut with notepad to verify it does not include unwanted data such as the JSESSIONID info....etc.
Once you have reviewed the HTTP headers, I have these questions.
    1. IIS is sending the 100 Continue messages as you mention, but why is the CSS injecting the cookie in a 100 response that is not typically processed by the client? The bad.txt file shows the client receiving two ARPT cookies because the first cookie in the 100 continue response was ignored.
    2. I know Cisco is not really in the business of troubleshooting browser behaviour. But do you know why the browser would behave differently....GET in one request and a POST in the next? We do not wish to get into modifying the browser, so I'm hoping we can provide a solution on the server side that will allow the browser to function this way if it chooses to do so. Do you think it would make sence to push the state management up a level to the cookie handed out by JRUN? This way, the cookie would not be handed back in a 100 response from IIS, and we could tell the CSS to monitor the JRUN cookie. Of course this would require we determine how to manage this cookie either by modifying to cookie to have static data for each server, or by using the right method of hashing...etc.
