Load save panel ascii-file

I would like to have a vi which creates a human
readable ascii-file from any vi's front panel.
If possible with the option to load it back into
the vi. This way a situation can be saved as kind of a version. Also using the same settings in another vi could be handy.
I have made a vi which makes creates a file containing control names, flattened data and typedefs of the controls, but it's binary !
Is there a way to translate these codes to uman readable code ?
This would bring me closer to the solution.

Therefor you can use the ini file vi's. You can create a new section for
each control and assign the informations (name, flatten data) with
different keys like:
[Control_01]
Name=...
FlattenData=...
[Control_02]
In some cases you are not able to see the real value, for instance the
flatten data. Just try it out.

  • Mapping and loading  single ASCII file into multiple tables in ODI

We get an ASCII file that contains several different transactions (records) and I need to validate and map each record to different table in the target database using Oracle Data Integrator tool. Is it possible ? If so, how and how difficult it is ?
I would appreciate a quick response.

    Hi Madha,
Using Demo version, we are trying to load data from ASCII file. When trying to execute, we are getting the following error:
    7000 : null : com.sunopsis.jdbc.driver.file.a.icom.sunopsis.jdbc.driver.file.a.i

The file has all text fields and no date fields. we made sure that there is data for all fields being loaded.
Question is whether there is any problem in creating data in the Demo database which cameup with installation?
I mean, do we need to create any privileges to insert/add/delete ? We are running this as user SUPVERVISOR .
I appreciate if you can respond to this.

  • Loading ASCII files - too slow

I have script for loading ASCII file into database.
First I use SQL loader to load data into temporary tables. After
that I start procedure which does some linking of loaded data
    which is nessesary.
After that I move data from temp tables to main tables.
There are 7 main tables, two of them have 30,000,000 rows, other
are smaller. Tablespace has 12 Gb, and it is localy managed.
Problem is, that few days ago load of one ASCII file with 10,000
rows took 10 seconds to finish, but now it takes 90 seconds.
Problem is not SQL loader, but procedure for linking and coping.
But why it is so slow now?
Nothing is changed, we started a large load (some 6000 ASCII
files). When we started it was fast (10 sec/file), now it's slow
    (90 sec/file).
I also noticed that database process uses 40% of CPU. When it
was working fine it took 10-15 % of CPU time.
Also, when everithing was working fine used space in datafiles
was growing, but now it seams to be on same level al the time.
PCTFREE for tables is 10 and PCTUSED is 60.
    Can anybody help, please?

Is this CBO or RBO ? I am curious -- are you building stats
during data loads ? Might want to review your strategy either
    way.
Are there any concurrent events happening on either the host or
the rdb during the most recent (slower) loads that might not
have been occuring before ? Eg: heavy queries against the tables
occuring during data load events ?
Is your 12g tablespace split over drives ? Can't help but wonder
what kind of fragmentation is occuring on these tables and
underlying storage ? 30,000,000 rows per tab is alot of rows.
If you are practicing datawarehouse forced reload (ETL) of the
tables then I would be inclined to truncate target tables first
(including storage) to allow Oracle to use some 'smarts' as it
re-allocated extents for your many millions of rows.
Generally speaking, update degradation such as you are
experiencing can be attributed to bottlenecks in TBSs and
datafiles that are choking from write activity. I have resolved
similar issues through partitioning and truncating.
    Hope this helps, RP.

Whenever you try to save a PDF file to a location other than the default location ('My Documents'), Firefox freezes & you have to go to the 'Task Manager' to exit Firefox and stop the error. I have Windows XP (Media Center Edition) and all updates (Firefox, Adobe PDF, Microsoft, virus protection, etc) are installed. This has only been a problem since Firefox 4, and isn't a problem in Internet Explorer.

    Hi David,
Thank you for your detailed question. It sounds like the real issue is pdf files. Are there any antivirus/firewalls that might be blocking this specific file type? or are there any preferences in your control panel that might be blocking this?
Do you have any stored preferences for PDF files in Firefox?

  • Save a character mode report to ascii file after previewing?

    Question:
why isn't there a way to say generate a character mode report into an ascii file form the Previewer, am I missing somethig?
I know you can choose print and then print to file or choose generate to Postscript file, but it is not as clean as it is with bitmaps that you can preview and then save as: html, pdf, htmlcss, rtf etc.
    very many thanks in advance,
    ER.
    null

I am really glad someone tried to help me. Truly thanks.
However, I am even more confused now because once I see my character mode report in the previewer and try to generate into an html file the message is:
rep-1920: Character mode runtime incompatible with desformat of pdf, html, htmlcss or rtf,
There is no such error with bitmap reports so why would it be a problem for the character report since you say it is converted to bitmap?
Other than that, even more important question is using this same report to be displayed on web: since there is no convinient storing in the local users space
    in that case.
    Thanks,

Please can someone tell me how to save a MP3 file from my email on my iPad so I can put it on Faceboo? I use hotmail and please tell me step by step as I am not a tech guru lol. Thankyou

    Hi jscher200,
Thank you for your reply, sorry for the VERY late late response, but I have just figured out how to control this separate 'panel'. I find it really useful for monitoring Google Analytics in as it can just sit there running. It does have its limitations, as it's a limited size (you can't expand it to full screen view), so you can only ever see a vertical section of a website and need to scroll to look to the right or left, but I have the live view of people accessing my website running on there and if the numbers start racking up at any time, I can scroll to look and see what pages they are accessing, where they've been referred from, etc.
To get it to work, you save a website address in the Bookmarks Toolbar and when you can see it sitting on the toolbar at the top of the screen with its little icon, right click on it then click 'properties', then tick the box 'Load this bookmark in the sidebar'. The next time you click on this bookmark to open the website, it will load in this sidebar, which looks like a separate 'window' but is immovable. You can only have one sidebar application running at a time, but can change it by right clicking on the bookmark you want to load in there and it will then change to that one next time you click on that bookmark.
I hope this might be useful to others, as I asked for help with this on loads of forums and not one person knew that this existed - even really skilled techies!

  • How can I extract a dates column from an ascii file

I am extracting data from an ascii file and the rest of the data is extracted using read from spreadsheet, but the date appears as just the day e.g. 22 for 22nd, how can I get the date, format in ascii is e.g 22/04/2006, can I do this by specifying something at format of read from spreadsheet ? Cheers
    Emily

    Hi,
I found the other day that there are instructions included inside the Read From Spreadsheet vi on how to modify it slightly to read strings rather than doubles.
If you drop the Read From Spreadsheet  vi onto the block diagram and double click on it, you will open the front panel for the vi. If you then select the block diagram (for Read From Spreadsheet) you will see an 'instructions' frame below the main 'code', and the 3rd paragraph tells you how to modify the VI to read the spreadsheet as a set of strings rather then doubles. Save the vi as a new filename when you've edited it or you will overwrite the existing vi!
Using the newly modified vi you can read in your entire spreadsheet, extract the dates as strings, then do any conversion necessary to the other columns of the sheet to change them into the types of value you require (eg doubles).
    I hope this helps.

  • How to save as Excel file type?

    Hi NiCoder,
You have a numer of different options to get data from the DIAdem Data Portal to Excel:
    1)  Save to TDM or TDMS file and use the free TDM Excel Importer to load the data into Excel
    2)  Save to CSV file and use Excel's built-in ASCII file import feature to load the data into Excel
    3)  Load the gfsexcel.dll GPI-DLL and use the "File >> Save as..." option to export an *.xls data file
    4)  Use a custom VBScript to automate any of the above 3 options
    5)  Use a custom VBScript to directly send each Data Portal data channel to a column of values in Excel via ActiveX
Options 1) and 2) are easiest if you want a purely interactive solution.  Option 1) will export all the data values as well as all the properties.  Option 2) will export all the data values and the name of each channel in the Data Portal, but none of the other properties.  If you choose to use option 3), know ahead of time that this feature is limited to 255 columns and will not export any custom properties, just the properties that existed back in DIAdem 8.1.  Option 4) can add in all the custom properties that are missing in option 2).  Option 5) can export all the data and all custom properties, but it is also the slowest option and involves the most programming.

  • How to save an excel file as CSV with semi-colon as data separator?

We are creating a flat data file to load the flat file data to our BW system with Excel.  When we save the file, there are three kinds of CSV types for selecting from the "Save as type" list box:
    CSV (Comma delimited)
    CSV (Macintosh)
    CSV (MS-DOS)
There is no CSV (semi colon delimited) type.  If we pick CSV (Comma delimted) as the type, then when clicking the "Preview ..." picture icon under the "DataSource/Trans. Structure" tab of the InfoSource for this flat file (with the CSV radio button checked the Data separator default is ";"), the File Upload Preview window shows the data is messed up that some columns of the excel flat file are combined into one column.
Since the save type we picked is "CSV (Comma delimited)", then we try to change the default Data separator from ";" to "," in the preview selection screen, but still not helpful!
How to resolve the above problem?
    Thanks

    Hi Kevin,
This "," is defined in your windows setting. If you want to have ";" as separator then go to control Panel, select Regional Options, go to Numbers Tab and define the List separator as ";". After that when you will save your excel file as CSV(MS-DOS) it will have ";" as separator. This will make sure that the amounts are not broken in to two different fields while loading.
Else if you keep "," as separator then you can also go into the Excel and define all number fields as Number without thousand separator.
Let me know if you have any doubts in this.
    Regards,
    Rohit

  • Recording time on the Save to ASCII%2FLVM step

    To Ni application engineers:
I have Signal Express 3.0, and I would like to find out if there are ways to put real time stamp (or relative time based on DAQ rate).   We would like the time stamp to be in the 1st column in Excel along with the mean statistical data on the right side of it.   (See attached project file for detail)
    Time |   Load  |  Stroke  | Strain 1  |  Strain 2 |     .....and so on
Our clients been constantly asking us about this, and we just not able to give them a good answer due to the fact that signal express 3.0 doesn't give such option.  This is quite urgent, and I hope you guys can help.
If the newer version of  signal express can do such task, we would be interested in an upgrade.   I would assume the newer version will run on Windows7 Professional 64bit.

    Hi Kin,
Unfortunately SignalExpress does not have the capability to export the real time to Excel. Using Xo and DeltaX to calculate the absolute timestamp in Excel is likely the best option.
Additionally, you can create a 'Save to ASCII/LVM' step that will log the data to a TDMS file and you can save the time as relative or absolute. However, the absolute time is given in the number of seconds elapsed since January 1st, 1904 (as explained here: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/69CABEE9F0BA9A6586256B41006B0BBB?OpenDocument).

  • Saving multiple signals to ASCII file

How can I save two (or more) signals from different sources to same ASCII file? I want to be able to compare the wanted and the actual measured signal by looking the ASCII file result...
The result file (sweep.txt) could look like this:
    DC Signal  mean
    1                 0.99
    2                 2.1
    3                 3.0
My little sequence looks like this
    Sweep (from 0V to 5V, 0.5 steps)
      Create analog signal
       |> DC signal
      DAQmxGenerate
      >| DC Signal
      DAQmx Acquire (10 samples)
      |> Voltage
      Statistics
      >| Voltage
      |> mean
      Save to ASCII/LVM
      >| mean
      >| DC Signal (I can't seem to add another source like this!!!)
    End sweep
The way the Save step acts when trying to add another signal is rather...chaotic! You can TRY to add another signal but you can't select it, OR if you can select it it will cause an error later on...(Missing input)
And if I choose to export DC Signal and mean from the sweep output and then save it...The header talkes about "Frequency (Hz)" which is not related to the measurement at all...so it seems there are bugs in the software or my reasoning...And I can't seem to change the header either!
Shouldn't it be possible to save lots of different measurement data from different devices?!?! It seems like a normal thing to do!!
...My next sequence was supposed to measure the effiency of a regulator by sweeping the input voltage Uin (100 points) and the load resistance Rload (100 points ) and save the results in a file looking like this: (total of about 100x100 measurements)
Uin Iin Pin Uout Iout Rload Pload n
Oh and BTW i'm using Signal Express 2.5.0, is there an update availlable?
    Thanks...
    -Sami

I can think of a couple of issues that may be causing your frustrations.
    Issue 1:
The DC signal coming from the Create Signal step is actually a waveform with multiple samples, not just a single value.  The mean value is a double with one value.  The Save to ASCII/LVM step is not set up to save inputs of different types to the same file.  Since they can have different lengths, putting them side-by-side into the same file doesn't make sense.
Try doing just a save of the DC signal and then another of the mean value and then take a look at the output data and you'll see the difference.
    Issue 2:
When you have outputs of a Sweep, the outputs are functions of the selections made in the Sweep Output tab.  This allows the values of signals vs. the swept parameter, so you may have the DC signal swept against the frequency changes in the Sweep step.  Check the Sweep Output tab to verify you're sending out the data you want.

  • Loading Instrument settings from file

    Hi there
I am developing a new app that uses quite a few possible instrument configurations and needs to be able to support multiple instruments models. I have written a little GUI that lets users select a config from various settings on different tables. I now want to save this config to a file and maybe read in the settings when they want to edit it again. Can any body suggest and tried and tested formats for doing this. I was going to use configuration files with a section for each instrument type and then keys for model number and GPIB addr but am open to any other suggestions as I need to do this quickly (whats new eh !) and it needs to be scalable.
Instrument settings will be loaded from file into Globals by each test sequence so that globals can be re-used etc
    Cheers in advance.
    Chris R

    Chris,
    Option 1 - HDF5
I have found HDF5 the best method for saving configuration data. You can get low-level HDF5 utilities for LabVIEW by searching for sfpFile or HDF5 on the main NI website, or try this link.
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/3efedde4322fef19862567740067f3cc/cb8a7f8090900f6c86256cc700033816?O...
HDF5 is a binary, hierarchical file format, with a lot of built-in features such as compression and 64-bit file pointers. As such, it is fast, allows for easy backwards compatibility, and you can put anything into it. It also allows circular references (it is actually a directed graph, not a tree), so, for example, you can reference data from configurations and configurations from data. I maintained the NI-SCOPE Soft Front Panel configuration file with this method through many years and configuration changes.
Now for the bad news. HDF5 is very low level. Expect to take a week to get comfortable with it. HDF5 is not threadsafe, so you must ensure that you never call the DLL from more than one place at once. The posted code uses version 1.4.4 of HDF5, while the latest version is 1.6.3.
Option 2 - Configuration file VIs
If your configurations are fairly simple and have no real hierarchy, consider the configuration file VIs found on the file palette. These store your data in a Windows style INI file, so it is easily human readable. They are not as fast as the HDF5 solution, and have only a single layer of hierarchy, but they are written in pure G, so are very portable.
Good luck. Let us know how you make out.

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type:  ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. • Print VI front panel to file does not work after building executable.

I am using a property and invoke node to print the front panel of my VI to an HTML file.  It works fine in the development mode. After Building the application, this subvi will no longer

You can use the Report Generation VIs to generate the HTML report.  Specifically, you could use Append Front Panel Image to Report.vi and Save Report to File.vi to save the image of the panel to an HTML report.
Check out the examples in examples\reports to get a better idea how to use these VIs if you've never used them before.
