Load table structure definition from Sql server and mirroring
Hi, we have to replicate some tables from sql server
into SAP dictionary.
Is there a tool/transaction for import the table structure
from a DBRMS like sql/oracle ?
Adn is there some third part solution for replicate data
from/to sql server and Sap ?
Thanks in advance.
Riccardo Galli.
Hi,
Dont know if there are any tools for this but onething is sure you will need to create the table thru SE11.
I had done something similar, created a BDC to create table and it works.
Provide the BDC with list of fields, datatype, len, key fields and the BDC will create the table.
You will need to activate the table once its created, for some reason sap put the table in "partial active" status after creation .
Good luck.

Extract the data from SQL Server and Import into Oracle
Hi,
I would like to run a daily job that will export the table data from SQL server table (it will be only one or two table) and Import back into Oracle table (it might one or two table tables).
Could you please guide me that how can i do this using either sql server or oracle?
We have oracle 9.2 and sql server 2005.
Normally i do from flat file which is generated by source destination nand i dump into oracle using sql*loader but this time I have to directly extract/export the data from MS Sql server and load into Oracle table, mostly it will reload so i might doing any massaging data during the load.
If you show me the detail approach, it will be really appreciated.
I have access to Sql server but i don't how to use sql server to do this or using oracle as a daily job even becuase have to schedule the job for this as it will be a daily job.
Thanks,
poratipsUnless you can find an open source ODBC driver for SQL Server that runs on Solaris (and I wouldn't be overly hopeful there) Heterogeneous Services would require that you license something-- a third party ODBC driver, a new Oracle instance, or an Oracle Transparent Gateway.
As I stated below, you could certainly use SQL Server's ETL tool, DTS. Oracle's ETL tools would require additional licensing since you're just on 9.2. You could also write a small application (Java or otherwise) that connected to both databases and transferred the data. If you're particularly enterprising, you could load the SQL Server Type 4 JDBC driver into Oracle's JVM and write a Java stored procedure that connected to the SQL Server database via JDBC, but that's a pretty convoluted approach.

Retrieve Image from SQL Server and Store in Oracle
Hi All
I want to retrieve the image stored in sql server as a image type and store that image to oracle as a BLOB type.
I tried to retrive the image from sqlserver using getBytes and when storing to Oracle i have to type cast the byte array to BLOB then only it will be inserted please tell how to typecast byte array to BLOB.
Or is there alternative way how to retrieve the image stored in sql server as a image type and store that image to oracle as a BLOB type.

Create oracle table from sql server
Dear Gurus,
I need to create some tables from sql server 2008 to a oracle 11g database. Some tables contain vbinary datatype. Now my queries are
1. How can I do that?
2. If DB link is a solution then would you please provide me a step by step process to do so?
3. Is there any issue with datatype?
SQL Server db is on windows 2008 R2
Oracle is in RHEL 5.5
Will appreciate ur help.well suppose i generate flat files from sql server and load in oracle by sqlloader then will there be any issue with vbinary datatype? what should be the equivalent data type in oracle table?

Migration from SQL Server 2005 to Oracle 10g
Dear buddies,
I need to migrate my tables with data from SQL Server 2005 to Oracle 10g. How can I do it in the best possible way?
Please guide me.
NithNith,
I doubt if there is one best practice that can cover all cases of migrating data from sql server to Oracle. l generally find various factors case-by-case that make me chose one approach over the other. Without considering the business case and environment specific factors, some of the things I would like to know would be: The data types of the tables columns, table sizes, number of tables and if this is a one time process or a recurring process.
One of the easiest (some times rather pesky) process would be:
-Dump source data (Sql Server data) into flat files, csv or any preferred format
-Setup a set of staging set of tables in the destination DB (Oracle in your case). You can setup the stage tables to enforce data-types, value sets and even some level of integrity constraints or any data logic or what ever you would like to filter out. Load the flat file data into a set of Oracle stage tables (Sql*Loader would be a good candidate)
-You can always move data from these stage tables to you application tables
You can script this whole process to run as batch or on demand or how ever you would like.
I am sure you can google and find a bunch of proprietary as well as open source tools to do the same with little to a lot of work.
good luck! -
Reading BLOB from SQL Server 2005 using DB Link from Oracle 10g
Hi All,
I am trying to read a table's data from SQL Server 2005 using ODBC DB Link created in Oracle 10g (10.2.0.3/4) database. I am not using oracle gateway.
I am able read all data except for the BLOB data from SQL server 2005. It gives error given below when I try to execute query SELECT * from T_TRANSACTION_DATA@sdeslink inside a stored procedure:
ORA-22992: cannot use LOB locators selected from remote tables
Kindly help how to read BLOB from SQL server 2005 inside Oracle 10g.
Best Regards!
IrfanIrfan,
If you can read the blob data using 10.2 HSODBC then there should be no problem using the 11g gateway.
I recommend you download the latest version which is 11.2.0.3 available from My oracle Support as -
Patch 10404530: 11.2.0.3.0 PATCH SET FOR ORACLE DATABASE SERVER
This is a full version and does not need a previous version to have bene installed. When installing it needs to be in a completlely separate ORACLE_HOME from the existing 11.2 install.
For the Ora-22992 problem have a look at this note in My Oracle Support -
Ora-22992 has a workaround in 10gR2 (Doc ID 436707.1)

Importing from SQL Server - Performance
Hello,
I am developing an Access 2010 database with a SQL Server 2008 R2 backend. I would be interested in getting some feedback on which method of retrieving the results from SQL Server and displaying them in Excel would show the best performance. Assume the following
options.
1. Create a pass-through query in Access and execute the following VBA code;
Set qdf = db.QueryDefs("qry_Passthrough")
SQL = "SELECT * FROM qry_Passthrough WHERE ID = 1"
Set rst = qdf.OpenRecordset(SQL, dbOpenSnapshot)
2. Create a pass-through query in VBA code;
Set qdf = db.CreateQueryDef("")
qdf.SQL = "SELECT * FROM tbl_Data WHERE ID = 1"
Set rst = qdf.OpenRecordset(dbOpenSnapshot)
3. Create an inline table valued function (itvf_Data) and pass in the ID parameter;
Set qdf = db.CreateQueryDef("")
qdf.SQL = "SELECT * FROM dbo.itvf_Data (1)"
Set rst = qdf.OpenRecordset(dbOpenSnapshot)
4. Create a View in SQL Server and return the results;
Set qdf = db.CreateQueryDef("")
qdf.SQL = "SELECT * FROM vw_Data WHERE ID = 1"
Set rst = qdf.OpenRecordset(dbOpenSnapshot)
5. Create a linked View in Access to reference vw_Data;
SQL = "SELECT * FROM dbo_vw_Data WHERE ID = 1"
Set rst = qdf.OpenRecordset(SQL, dbOpenSnapshot)1.,2.: As long as it's a passthrough the creation of it does not influence the performance.
3.: A TVF is a good development tool. As long as you call it only with parameters, it's imho okay. The problems begin when you need additional condtions. Adding them as WHERE clause may affect performance, cause SQL Server cannot optimize them well.
4./5. Server-side views are clearly the best approach. Due to o9ptimization and plan caching by SQL Server. -

Is it possible to load a dump file collected from sql server to orcle 10gR2
Hi..
As a part of data migration from legacy systems , we need to migrate only required tables from Sql server to Oracle 10gr2 .
At present client is telling that he will give it as dump file.
My question is , Is it possible to load the dump file collected from sql server to oracle 10gR2?
Thanks in advance ..yes, it is.
Using for example SQL Developer Migration Workbench even allows you to create unload scripts for the desired SQL Server tables and it also creates the DDL scripts for you to create the Oracle tables similar to the SQL Server table AND it alows creates the SQL*Loader scripts that allow you to load the SQL Server generated dump file into the Oracle db.
Here the link:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration/workbench/index_sqldev_omwb.html
If you do not want to use this utility, you can also use SQL*Loader to load the content of the SQL Server dump file into the Oracle database; but in this case you have to write the whole SQL*Loader control scripts on your own.

Something is wrong but what? Source table is imported straight from SQL server db and target table is basicly a copy of it. I'm not used to work with SQL server databases so this can be a configuration issue or something like that.
BR,
MariSeems that the problem is here: 'kssefflataus.dbo.SLD_LAHETTEET_EFF'. It should be 'kssefflataus.mydatabase.dbo.SLD_LAHETTEET_EFF'. That "mydatabase" is defined in SQL server location but it doesn't use it here. How can I add it to the code?

Loading data from SQL server to Oracle database
i want to create one table in oracle db from table in sql server. Table is huge it got 97,456,789 records.
I created db link (HS) in oracle database which is pointing to sql server. i can select that table from oracle thru db link.
select * from "dbo"."t1@dblink;
i fired below create table.
create table t2 nologging parallel (degree=3) as select * from "dbo"."t1@dblink;
and its taking long time.... but its running...
is there any alternate method to do this and and populate table in oracle db faster.
Please advise. thanks.vhiware wrote:

is there any alternate method to do this and and populate table in oracle db faster.Part of the performance overhead is pulling that data from SQL-Server to Oracle across the network link between them. This can be sped up by compressing the data first - and then transferring that across the network.
For example: using +bcp+ to export the data on the SQL-Server box to a CSV file, compress/zip the file, scp/sftp the file to Oracle, and then unzipping it there. Parallel and direct load processing can now be done using SQL*Loader to load the CSV into Oracle.
If this is a Linux/Unix base system, then the unzip/decompress process can be run in parallel with the SQL*Loader process by creating a pipe between the two - where the unzip process writes uncompressed data into the pipe and SQL*Loader reads and loads data as it becomes available via the pipe.
Alternatively, you can do you own PQ processing. Let's say the data is date ranged. You can create a procedure on Oracle that looks something like this:
{code}
create or replace procedure CopyDay( day date ) is
begin
insert /*+ append */ into local_tab select * from remote_tab@remotedb where col_day = day;
-- add logging info, commit, etc.
end;
{code}
You can now start 10 or more of these for different days and run it in the background using DBMS_JOB. -
Exceptions thrown while importing tables from SQL Server 2000
Hi all,
<MyProblem:
I cannot import the tables defined in my local SQL Server. An exception is thrown --oracle.jdeveloper.cm.ds.db.ValidationException: Columns of type varchar cannot have a size specified.

<What I have done:
In Oracle JDev 10g, Created a new DB connection called "SQLServerConnection" to connect to the SQL Server and it works fine. I am able to see all tables by expanding the connection.
During the creation of a new partner link named "DBAdapter", I use the adapter wizard to select DB Adapter and then select the "SQLServerConnection" DB connection I have created. I select Perform an Operation on a Table and then check Select. After I pressed OK button on the[i] Import Tables dialog, a Error messege box emmerged indicating the Exception: Columns of type varchar cannot have a size specified.
I try to change the data type of the columns of the tables to char, there is still similar exception (Columns of type char cannot have a size specified).

I got the stack trace from the prompt by using jdev.exe.

Using Oracle Forms Importing Data From SQL Server into Oracle Tables.
Dear All,
We are using Oracle Forms 10g in windows XP and having OAS 10g and Oracle database 9i.
How can we import data from SQL Server 2005 into Oracle tables using Oracle Forms?
Thanks & Regards
EidyI have no idea what "Oracle Hetrogenius Services" is, so I can't help you with that, sorry.
SQL Developer might also assist you. SQL Developer can connect to SQL Server as well as Oracle and has some tools for migration. See the documentation for details:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12151_01/doc.150/e12156/toc.htm
For additional help on using SQL Developer for this task, please consult Support or the SQL Developer forum: SQL Developer
Hope this helps,
Jacob
